Like theming? With aosp based roms, like cyanogen or arayraymod, you need the res folder within framework-res.apk. Stock roms are a bit harder to do, but I can explain it to you if you want, I've done it before.

Ah. Well for that, I haven't really done that before, but I'm pretty sure its the kernel files that need to be kept from the slide, but really I'm not completely sure. Try the porting tools in the android kitchen, although I'm not sure how well those actually work.

Nonono the G1 and the MT3G are both MDPI, and if I remember correctly, so is the aria? It's just the newer phones like the vibrant, G2, MT4G, etc, with higher resolutions that won't display correctly. Most phones are MDPI still. There are a few phones that are smaller than MDPI but I doubt those are themed anyway, so you should be fine, just steer clear of HDPI.
EDIT: just downloaded it because I want to port a theme myself, and it looks like it has an HDPI to MDPI mode built in, so you MIGHT be able to take themes from the G2, Vibrant, MT4g, etc., and port them, but it might be glitchy since I have no idea how it does that, if it just crops the images or actually scales them. Feel free to try it out, but make a nandroid before you flash it just in case it doesn't work right.

Questions about CyanogenMod

I am thinking about rooting my slide because I am fed up of waiting for tmobiles slow a**, but I have two question that I would like to know.
1.Can you still use swype??
2.are you still able to use flash lite since there's no adobe 10.1 for us yet??
Thanks in advance to all the people that take the time to answer my questions

You can install swype to cm but it isn't installed by default. There's a thread in this section about getting it installed actually. As for flash, I don't think that will work, no. I have never actually tried it, but theoretically, you might be able to download CR_Mod and extract HTC_Flash.apk from /system/app to say, your downloads folder, then adb push that file to /system/app after you root in clockwork recovery (remember to mount /system in the partitions menu in clockwork). Post back if you need me to explain more about that, and I will, I'm just using my phone so it'd be a bit hard on my thumbs to type the long explanation haha

No.

Well, you might be able to pull htcflash/flash light from the stock ROM and use that, but I'm pretty sure that's a part of webkit, and I doubt that it would work on a different browser, so yeah probably not.

[Q] Is it possible that someone make a port of the MyTouch 4G?

I know screen sizes are different, but as there is an app that changes the display density, i thought a couple files could be edited for a port of the MyTouch 4G to our Slide.
If it takes time to find out, could you guys at least tell what must I have to know to port a rom, and info about configurations of screen density.
Thanks, I hope for someone to reply, I really wish this can be possible, and others to enjoy it too if it can be done.

It can be extremely difficult to fix the images. It's not just a simple resize, as the aspect ratios are different as well. It all depends. The mytouch 4g has a completely different hardware base. It probably wouldn't work. If you want a mytouch-style ROM why not just use the rooted stock ROM?

Yes, I've seen the videos. It wouldn't work, the hardware is not the same and a lot of hardware is tied into the OS.
For example, it has apps having to do with the front facing camera, which the slide does not have. It has elements having to do with the fm radio, which it doesn't have, and of course, elements having to do with HSPA+, which we don't have. I imagine that if you even tried, not only would it not appear right, it would crash all the time.

I mean, it's POSSIBLE, but it probably would not look too great, after HOURS of work resizing images and de/recompiling APK's for the 9patches. It would probably have stability issues with the drastically different hardware, in fact, it's armv7, we're armv6, it may not even work, but replacing the kernel may fix it. I really don't know, but I don't think anyone is gonna pounce on the opportunity.

Yea, and I just checked more about its UI, I really thought it was like Sense of the HD Desire and a blend of Espresso.
Just the stock rooted rom is like MyTouch 4G,
Sense UI from HD Desire would be worth the attemp... But I guess that's a way different hardware so... :/

Yea, it's just that I thought that even with hard work, it could be done.
Check this:

Isn't Milestone more similar to our Slide?

*Prays a dev takes on this project*
im a total noob to development but i decided i would at least give it a stab.
but looking into the build.prop, it looks like its not going to be easy to port. the build.prop is saying its for an hdpi phone "ro.product.locale.language=hdpi"
im going to continue playing around in the kitchen and see what happens though
Edit: Im not sure why it said hdpi there. looking at the build.prop on cyanogenmod in says 'en' which made more sense since that line looked more like language. still unsure what im looking at though :/ lol

Awesome that you are trying!
We got yer back.
The wildfire's res is 240x320 which is QVGA, not the same like our phones.
So it is like the htc tattoo which was hard to port since the res was lower than the 320x480 used at that time.
Yes the OG Wildfire is QVGA but the Wildfire S is HVGA...actually the Wildfire S is almost the same phone as ours but without the keyboard. Same res and same processor (if I remember correctly).
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
interesting.
Is it possible to get htc flash lite frameworks from Wildfire S and mix it in CM7? That would be the best ROM ever. I don't need Sense ui, all I want is flash as it used to be back on 2.1 stock fw
no progress...i was going to work on it this morning at work (slow day) but linux is not booting after the update i got last night (dual boot). so instead im reconfiguring my computer and re-setting up ubuntu
I'm patient.
There's another hvga/same hardware phone out. Its called the htc salsa, I believe it has android 2.4 sense. It would be cool to get that rom

Yeah it has FB button plus same specs as us...Excluding addition of BT 3.0 instead of 2.1(corr if MTS has 3.0 BT).
Yes but that one won't be out for some time since 2.4 won't be released til May. The Wildfire S Rom is out now and is based off 2.3.2 AND has Sense 2.1 on board. It'll be a huge source for things to use in Sense and Non Sense Ginger Roms. Plus Wildfire S is supposed to launch with 2.4 as well.
Finally got linux running on my pc again and had to start porting (attempting) from scratch. I did everything i could think of then signed and flashed it. Good news is, it installed. Bad news is that got boot loops. I'll work a little more with it and do some more research and see if any progress can be made.

If you need testers...I'm in...ya may want to post a thread in our dev forum for this?
Just a thought.
I'm excited now.
Dont get too excited. i need to get the rom to boot first lol. If i get it booting, then i'll upload it and people can test if they want. But im hoping a dev with porting experience can help me out. Im a self taught noob rom porter
Thx for the encouragement though

Houston, we have lift-off! I got it working! Testing everything right now to see what works and what doesnt. Only drawback is that HTC has a watermark that is constantly on the screen. It doesnt make it impossible to see what your doing, its just annoying. Will make sure thats one of the first things to be fixed.
Does the sense launcher work in landscape mode now?

Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
dont think so, but doesnt really matter. you can delete them easily by just opening the zip and deleting what you dont want and then flashing the rom. be careful, sense roms have apps that rely on each other and deleting one could break a function. its trial and error to see what can be taken out and what needs to stay. just play with it
I thought that's kinda what this was?

Also, once I install a rom and want to get rid of bloat that I don't use, I just use root explorer to delete what I don't use........but as said above, be careful what you delete, because certain things in any rom depend on each other.
