[Q] Battery Overheating Causing Shutdown- Battery life Uneffected - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
By current battery temp is at 33.3 degrees.
Battery life is uneffected. I get more than a days life out off it.
I never did any caliberation stuff etc
current rom MIUI
I just started monitoring the temp becuase 30 min ago my phone shut down hwne it was sitting right next to table lamb and the heat of the light from the lamp caused the phone to shut down and boot loop at htc logo.
I dont think this is a one off problem as i am getting boot loops on htc logo when playing games since last 3 weeks.
I even had to change my rom because once its got stuck in boot loop forever.
so i had to unroot etc
currently i am using MIUI
I didnt realise the boot loops were because of overheating.
What is the temp your battery is on?
Is there any way of checking temp on other parts like processor etc.
Does replacing battery help?
At this moment playing games for more than 10 causes phone to shut down. and sometimes to bootloop
What shall i do?

Probably another case of this.

Try a differrnt modified kernel other than your stock one, like VorkKernel or DeFrost.

Heat

So there is this story... One day I woke up (the phone was connected to charger) and my Vision was on my roms bootscreen (it was a htc sense rom I think)... Took it in my hands and it was super hot. Extreme overheat. Even more than SGS2 when playing hardcore games I immediatly pulled the battery and waited some 30mins... In the next evening I was afraid to connect it to charger and sleep, but I made the risk. And nothing happened.
So at the night when it almost burned it was on 1ghz, what in my opinion is not a big overclock and couldn't cause such an overheat... No other things were done.
At the next day, switched to CM7...
So can this happen again? And why it happened?

Battery malfunction ? i.e. the battery itself is dying ?
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Was your phone turned off/just turning on when you went to sleep or did it reboot over night?
Anyways I think, since it obviously isn't a reoccurring problem, it was probably just an app or some system service which was caught in some kind of loop or other error which leads to a very high usage of cpu cycles and therefore your phone heats up a lot. Finally Android reboots either due to a hardware trigger caused by the rising temperature or because the OS crashed.
Once the phone rebooted, android probably tried to finish whatever it was up to and got caught in a loop once again which stalled the boot up process.
I guess that this can happen again, though I don't think that this is anything you need to be concerned about, unless it becomes a frequently reoccurring problem.
Overclock should have nothing to do with it. I don't think OC to 1 GHz involves any overvolt. Plus, unless you have the minimum clock freq set to 1 GHz, it was likely clocked itself down much lower than 1 GHz while screen off and idle.
Battery may be faulty, or some runaway process, as previously suggested.
i've heard that when the phone gets hot it stops charging... i may be wrong though...
try putting it back to 800 on CM ROMS... they're lite weight... and u have heat issues... so this could be good for you
I have had this happen a few times all due to OCing. Something in the system gets stuck in a loop and it will heat up FAST. I too have pulled the bat and cooled it down then put it back with no problems. I was always OCing in the range of 1.8 or 1.9 when this happened though. I would check your radio version too. The .19 radio gave me a lot of problems. I currently run the .30 radio on my G2.
P.s. the phone has a hardware temp shut off. So if it gets too hot it will shut off. Not something you want to have happen a lot though.

Overheat one x, now is dead. I need help, any ideas?

Today is my bad luck day with One X.
The phone seems to be dead, and I believe it's because one x + battery.
I changed its original battery by the one x +'s a few months ago.
So, be warned, the one x + battery could damage your phone.
Here is what happened:
1) the phone begin to overheat suddenly
2) I turned it off and waited to the next day
3) turned it on, was very cool, but as soon as it begin the boot sequence, it became to overheat (even before the system starts)
4) when the launcher was loaded, I opened trickster mod to check temperature, the cpu and battery temperature raised very quickly to these values: battery 55° C (131° F) and cpu 65° C (149° F), also the battery was draining very very very quickly (5% per minute)
5) turned if off and waited to be cool
6) put it to charge (was turned off) and went to lunch
7) checked it 40 minutes after, there was no red charging light and a was VERY hot
8) took out from outlet and waited to be cool
9) now it doesn't turn on or charge anymore (no life signal)
That's it, my last hope is to put the original battery back on it again and try to charge (maybe the original battery still works)
It's on God's hands now.
I have put the original battery back and now is working, but still overheating.
Any ideas about the OVER overheat?

are you on stock or custom rom with custom kernel? in such case you always should give more information
If it is still overheating, it might not be the battery's fault. Probably it's the CPu that's overheating the battery...
Have you modified the voltages, maybe made a mistake and over-volted instead of under-volted?
You should try going back to stock ROM to see if the problem persist.

Sorry, it's a custom rom, this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506
But I've been using it for six months without problems. Just yesterday the phone begin to overheat and the battery wasn't charging anymore.
So I changed the battery back to the original, but the overheat is still there.
Also, the overheat happens even when the phone is charging turned off (just red light), so I assume it is not a rom problem, it must be something related to the CPU. Now I've changed the battery I'm not so sure that the one x+ battery caused the problem, but I'm sure the one x + battery is not working anymore (wasn't charging or turning the phone on).
Now I'm trying to charge the battery (original) slowly (charge 10 min and stop to let the phone get cool). After that I plan to put the stock rom back and see what happens. But I don't think the overheat will stop.
Any ideas on that?

I'll just finish charging the phone and will try to back to stock ROM from CWM backup.
I haven't modified any voltage, but I could check if wasn't a bug from trickster mod (maybe?).
How can I check if the voltages are correct?

Maybe you did something wrong while putting the battery in or so...I would say try another kernel or flash also another Rom...because sometimes its due to kernel ... Or you f#cked something up...

Trickster doesn't modify any files, so just by unchecking the "apply on boot" option (or uninstalling the app) and rebooting the phone should get you back on the stock volages. They always get reseted every reboot.
I don't really think over-volting is your problem, but it was an ideea. Could be a hardware issue, but others that knows better should pronounce.
In the meantime, try getting back to stock, who knows, it might help.
You should try changing the charger/usb cable and/or the power outlet you are using when charging...

I am also experiencing this problem, with a non-rooted stock ROM model. I hope it isn't a problem with the hardware...
Had the same problem with my second HOX, all stock. The heat was caused by fast battery drainage and intense CPU usage due to a rogue app and the CPU and motherboard got fried witch meant a motherboard swap.
This happened to mine, hope it's not the same thing with yours.
Best of luck.

[Q] (Q) Random shut downs, bad battery?

So I'll start off by saying I have a S3 SGH-i747m from telus.
A few weeks ago I installed battery guru and after it started managing processes my phone started getting symptoms of SDS (random shut downs and dead boot loop but only dead boot loop while on charge) it would also boot loop occasionally until starting. Most of the time I attempt to wake it from stand by and it vibrates as it powers on and is as normal.
I'm running clock work recovery, Dandroid 4.5 and kernal 3.0.31.
The phone has a small crack ( top left corner from left to right of the same corner) I live in BC so some rain does get on it but I dry it off.
Other than the mentioned issues it's running flawlessly, I was looking into the zerolemon battery any how I just don't want to spend money on a device out of warranty and potentially dead.
Any ideas? RJ.

Help Me, Battery Problem ! note 2

Hi to all, i have been using note 2 (not rooted) for past 1 year and i'm happy about it. But recently i have faced an unexceptional problem , a few days back i was testing google camera app, i was testing different modes for example panaroma mode and when my cell was processing the image it's screen suddenly went black and it started booting up, i was amazed but then i thought it must have been some issue with the software But my phone got stuck on the booting loop, as soon as the samsung logo appears it starts the whole booting procedure again. i tried different things but nothing helped.( i have two batteries) so i replaced the one which i was using during that session with the other one and now this time my phone booted up properly, then i charged the culprit battery in external note 2 charging kit ,normally it takes 3 hours but this time it took 6 hours for the complete charging ,when i again tried with the culprit battery my phone got stuck again in the boot loop since that day i have been trying to boot my phone with that battery but nothing has helped .. while my phone is working and booting properly on the spare battery so kindly help whats wrong with the battery.
Lately many batteries malfunction activities been going on. It's strange. It seems like something (software) is bugging the batteries or simply just the old ones dying. ..There is nothing one can do when the battery is out.

Had that issue with my other battery. It's probably a battery fault. You can throw (or recycle ) it now.
N7105 rocking AOSB with AGNi kernel,
Click "Thanks" if I was of any help!
On the Sony PSP there was a nice app which was reading the information from your battery. Simple info but it was helpful for creating Pandora. Is there no app on android which could do this from recovery? Someone who have his battery bugged could try to read that information and check why could those problems occur.
Edit : now I remember, to create the so called Pandora battery to the battery eprom has be written serial number ffffffff and after that you can't use your battery anymore in normal mode. It just didn't boot.
Or maybe those batteries just dying.

HELP... Ran my M9 dead now it will not charge or power back up

ok guys i got a hopefully a small problem.. i was watching YouTube and the battery was red alert low then it powers off so i plug it in and about 15 mins later i went to power it back on and it gets to the Leedroid boot animation and powers back off so i tried again and this time it displays the battery %0 and turns back off. this is the first time that i have had this problem.. hope its like its not recognizing the charger someone can give me some help .please
M9 Developer Edition
S-Off
running LeeDroid R26
latest firmware 617.15 Devloper
Leave it plugged in overnight with the charger that came with the phone. I've seen this sort of thing happen with HTC phones in the past, and this will usually solve it.
Sometimes when you run it down to 0%, it can take a while before the phone will power on again. This might be a safety feature to prevent damage to the battery that can result from completely draining it (which normally will not happen, as the phone will shut down when it gets to "true" 1% instead of what Android is displaying as the battery charge).
Thanks bro that worked thanks for your advice
