I've had 3 evos because of screen issues. Every time I get the phone its great and really really fast. A day after I root it, however, the phone becomes very slow and unresponsive. I used the "Unrevoked" one click root. If I restart the phone, it alleviates the slowness problem temporarily. Froyo 2.2. Please help me . Its the root thats causing the slowness. I know this because I've rooted 3 separate evos. How can I get root and not slow down the evo?
Perhaps try wiping and reinstalling the stock rooted ROM. I wouldn't know of any explicit reason why rooting would cause your phone to slow down, but I would suggest making a nandroid and trying a stock rooted (and maybe deodexed, your choice of course) ROM.

Try flashing a custom ROM or remove the apps, like Sprint bloatware, that you don't use at all. Check out the development section for them.
Aamikam created some ReEngineered ROMs where he went through all the apks to optimize them so you can check them out, or Myn's ROM also is pretty popular and there are a few others as well.
Are you using a Deodexed or Odexed ROM? Also which ROM/kernel are you using?

Just wondering I usually just use the stock rom....but what's the point if rooting so I want to start flashing some custom ones....just wondering with there being soo many different roms out there are there any requirements that u should be looking for b4 I go and just flash a rom such as screen type or kernal, or whether I'm using froyo or just if I'm on 2.2 or not as much detail would be helpful
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
the requirements are mostly up to you.
since you are rooted you can flash any rom. All roms come with some type of kernel. if you are going to flash a custom kernel you will want to make sure it is ok for your rom. this mostly comes into play with 2.1 v 2.2 and asop v sense. these are not interchange able.
My recommendation is to figure out what you want (ie if you need 4g working or if you are looking for speed or battery power etc)
once you have this list of things you want to make sure you have start flashing roms and see if you like it. once you have it set up and play with it for a bit nand back up it and then try the next. that way if you want to go back you can easily do so.
Most people find a rom they love and tend to always go back to it even after trying other roms.
Here is a good list of the top 5 roms in my opinion ( no specific order)
Damage Control (Sense)
CyanogenMod 6 (ASOP - no 4g)
Fresh (SENSE)
Evio (SENSE)
Baked Snacks (SENSE)
For kernels The only thing you have to worry about for the most part is if the rom is ASOP (really only CM6) or sense (pretty much everything else) the 2 main sense kernels (netarchy and kingsx) both work for almost every sense rom and work with epson and nova screens
anyway good luck and happy rom hunting.
Thank you very informative, kudos too you boss....now the only other thing that concerned me is that from what I can understand when I use certain roms (or might be kernels) I was reading may downgrade my prl- along with similar issues , and also what I've gathered from that is with some/most its a ***** too update again so if there are any guidelines for these kind of"issues" I as well as I'm sure most others new to android would love some guidance.....ohh and one of viruses roms says "your warrantee is now void".......this doesn't do anything other than explain that if you leave your phone flashed with anything other than an official android software and haven't reset back too s-on....your warrantee is void by htc/sprint ...but going back from what I understand is easy as using unrevoked s-on and downloading and flashing the latest official 2.2......just tying up loose ends..... Thank you all.
when you unlock nand the engineer boot changes your PRI to 1.34. I believe someone has a method using unrevoked forever and a custom img to prevent this but i have not done a lot of research on it since i have been rooted since i got my phone.
There are several methods to get back to 1.4 pri. For many the PRI made no difference to performance in few areas people report increased speeds (they also noticed these speeds differences right after they rooted). The most common method is to dial ##768# and then reset yuor profile (you will need your MSL code) once thats done wipe dalvik and cache and then cross your fingers. the pri is sometimes downloaded and installed during the over the air activation.
For some it is quick and painless and others like me took over 100 tries over several weeks. I have no actual benefit that i can tell but i like knowing i have everything up to date.
As for the warranty issue you are correct. If you can boot your phone it is relatively easy to get back to an unrooted phone. If your phone is rooted they say your warranty is void. so just dont give the phone back to them with out unrooting. the method you listed above is correct.
I don't know how to give you credit....but thank you....how does this work: +10

Last thing lol with themes dies the rom have to support them or if I'm on stock rooted rom can I install a theme and of not can I alter a stock rooted rom to be able to support them
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it depends on the theme. A majority of the themes for 2.2 will work on stock rooted as well as the sense 2.2 roms. If using and ASOP rom (ex CM 6) you will want to make sure the theme says it works with it.
some common ones for 2.2 sense are the Aloysius themes, riptide themes, and manups themes. there are lots of others depending on your taste so check them out.
if you are unsure i would nand back up before you apply the theme and if something looks funky once you install it just revert back.
Probably shouldn't have said "last question" but adb is giving me problems "error: device not found" and when I get it working I can't delete apps (sprint bloatware) it says "read only file". And I tried to install a theme but it just made my evo boot into what looked like an optical illusion....which was cool for a second...but compleatly un-functional....it was that revolutionary theme that was updated on 8/30 any suggestions?

i mailed you a lot of the response to this before i saw you posted it as well. I'm not going to retype everything but i will update to let you know that i installed the theme on my phone (i currently have evio 1.2 rom) and it went as expected. I did not try installing all the custom options but the main theme itself installed and didnt come up with an optical illusion type effect so i am confident we can get this working once you get back to me on some of the information.
I've got my SF all hacked up and running nicely, but my girlfriend says I can hack her Dinc now! I'm all new to it. I can root and install CWM and whatnot. I know thousands of these threads exist, but most are outdated. I'm interested in what people are running here and now. Looking for a simple ROM w/ VZW bloatware stripped but still running stock HTC weather app with the animations and whatnot. Which kernel are you running and what kind of battery life do you get? TIA!
Edit: One more thing...a program called Odin exists for my fascinate...which allows basically one click back to stock from any setup. Anything like that exist for the dinc?

odin is for samsung only. i dont thing there is any thing like that for an incredible.
cwm is going to be your best bet. just make a nandroid after you get s=off so you can go back to your stock rom.
for a rom with out bloat ware your going to need to search the development side of the forum for a rom that sounds good to you. you can also remove bloat ware your self with titanium backup.
yeah its really just a matter of backing it up first (your stock image) then searching and testing out the different ROMS.
Definatley titanium backup for individual app maintenance.
Check out this one for a stock rom.

Hey everyone, let me just start out by saying how much I love this site and how greatly all the users on here have helped me through the years. This is, however my first post. Sorry if this question has been asked, I couldn't find the answer, or else I know better than to ask a repeated question. But anyways, I recently rooted my E4GT last night using the Auto root your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN/ROM Flash) method.
After I was done rooting, installing the Clockwork Recovery, and flashing Calkulin's ET4G Rom, (I also installed the LoStKernel and the ICS Theme) I noticed my phone was lagging a bit. Once I opened my app drawer, I saw some bloatware on my phone (Sprint Music, Sprint TV/Movies, NASCAR, etc) so I downloaded Root Uninstaller from the Android Market and used it to uninstall the Sprint apps. (was this stupid of me to do?) Even though I uninstalled them, the lag was still there. This hasn't happened to me before.
Usually once I root my phone, it goes quite fast and smooth. I was wondering if anyone else had any similar problems? Or if anyone can help me fix the stupid lag?
I really appreciate it!
I can tell you 100% that the root itself from Auto Root is not causing your lag (only 3 files were installed and they are pretty much dormant unless you actively run them)
More importantly, you've already *overwritten* everything the Auto Root package installed by installing a custom ROM and Kernel. Basically Auto Root isn't involved anymore.
As to why there is lag, perhaps the combination isn't working well together or there are some one=time maintenance actions being done. Wait a couple of hours and see if it settles down.
Also keep in mind, most custom ROMs are de-odexed, so if your lag tolerance is very sensitive, you could notice some differences. There are some odex'd ROMs which you might want to try.
oh okay, that makes a lot of sense. thanks for your help! also, thanks for the quick rooting method!
another question, which odex'd ROMs would you recommend?
I don't think there are a lot to choose from. Most of them are from Strongsteve.
Hello all,
Got my Droid Incredible 2 back in July 2011. Rooted and flashed a custom ROM pretty much right away. Since, I have had almost no problems with this phone (except the alarm clock stopped working a few months ago...) and it has been through a lot.
Recently, my phone has been acting kind of weird. I am not quite sure what the problem is (sometimes the battery seems to drain extremely fast, pretty much only symptom atm and very random). I am going to keep using it regularly for a few more days to see if the problem is persistent.
Anyways, if the phone is actually OK still, I was thinking it might be nice to get a fresh new ROM. Like I said, got the phone 07/11, haven't touched it since.
I am liking this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892450
What is the recommended process of backing up my data and flashing this one on? I see the instructions in the thread and intend to follow them, if anyone has more detailed explanations or would like to walk me through it that would be appreciated.
Do I need to update anything else? Like I said, phone is on pretty old software/firmware since I have not received any official updates over the life time of my phone. I am seeing kernels and radios, will mine work? Can I tell? Are there better ones I should use?
I am currently rooted. Running rmk's Ginger Sense ROM (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161411) which is Android version 2.3.3 and Sense version 2.1. I have Titanium Backup and Superuser apps installed.
So, its been a while. Help me update right. I will continue to research but my knowledge relating to this process is currently severely lacking, so any help is appreciated. My phone has been fast, smooth, and stable - I would love to keep it that way!
Thanks
Just follow the instructions in the op. Do them as it says. Be sure to reboot recovery after installing rom and before flashing gapps. It wont break your phone if you forget, but it might help the soft keys work right. No need to update firmware. The kernel he includes is custom too so you dont have to flash a different one, research if you want to though, there are others that work. Try it without changing radios, if you want to change radios its simple and there is a thread that has them on xda.

I searched and couldn't find an answer to my specific situation but apoligize in advance if this is addressed. I really am new to this so don't want to screw something up.
Basically, if I am rooted with the current stock 4.3, can I take an OTA update? I don't mind losing root.
Background info:
I rooted a while ago, can't specifically but I recall it being a "one-click" method. I checked with root checker from the play store and it says I have root access. If I open SuperSU it tells me KNOX is detected and I know I never removed them so I think it's right. I am running L900VPUBMK4.
I hope 4.4 is released soon, so I'm really just preparing for that day. I need to do a factory reset in the next day or two anyways because my phone is acting up and I have a ton of junk on it anyways so I want a fresh start. I originally rooted to get wifi tethering working but that never worked out for me and I really don't need root at all.
Thanks in advance.
This should be asked under q&a but to answer your question yes you can but you will need the stock recovery installed and not CWM/Philz/TWRP

Thanks for the reply. Can this be moved to QA then?
So did I install a custom recovery to root? Is there a way to check? I've tried several varieties of volume +/- and power to try to boot into recovery but nothing happens.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm still running 4.1.2. I installed "CF Auto Root" so I could run "WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod". From what I remember it installed a different recovery as well. I'm trying to avoid completely erasing everything on my phone, I just wanna remove the root and nothing else, goto Setting, System Update, Update Firmware to whatever is the recent one available, then run CF Auto Root again. Is that not possible?
I've got MobileODIN installed on my phone, but I swear that over the years that the "standard" skill level has jumped 10 fold since my days of rooting Palm Treo's, my Samsung Epic, etc...there are so many [xxxx][xxxx][xx] box things that I'm COMPLETELY at a loss here.

I looked on my laptop and remember what I used. I used Kingo Android Root to do it. It didn't appear to work because I never got a "success" popup. But when I did a root check it says I have it.
How do I check if I have a custom recovery?
I'm with you M5James - very confusing. Even the "one-click" idiot proof method I used confused me. Different boxes to check that I have no idea as to what they mean.
I've rooted, installed ROM's and kernals, OC'd, custom baked my own ROM's using 7Zip, I tweaked my GF's phone so that she could use it here in the States and then while we were in Dubai as well, etc. Nowadays, when it comes to things like pushing through ADB (I have no clue what that even means, I've just heard it enough that it sticks lol), all the [xxx] before the title of the ROM, kernal, etc and I just become a dear in headlights. Lastnight I tried Googling random things on how to remove root easily and one mentioned using Superuser and just clicking the Unroot Complete icon, which I did. Running random apps says I've removed root, Market doesn't work anymore (I'd upgraded to the Lucky Patcher Market is where I'm guessing the problem is), yet even though I don't have root, I still can't get the OTA to push 4.3 to my phone. I don't even really care about having 4.3 because I'm fine w/ using 4.1.2 at the moment, I'm just sick of the random pushes to my phone asking me to update.
In regards to my Note II with just installing things like custom ROM's, I haven't wanted to do anything wild to it for fear of being like the days of when I had a custom Samsung Epic...worked great OC'd, but could never get battery stats to work right, then the phone would freak out and become laggy, I'd reboot and then suddenly the battery was dead. I just want a simple root, add root-only apps as needed like WiFi Tether, then continue on being a texting whore lol.
If you have rooted your epic and installed custom recovery all this should be pretty simple. All the info is here. Its to the point where rooting and unroofing can be down in probably under 10 mins. You have to read.

I read it all, but it's gotten to the point where it's overly technical sometimes. I get lost in jargon, acronyms, I liked it better when there were 5 REALLY good guys making ROM's that worked, not 30 people making their own variations in their basement, then it turns into a pissing match of who's got the latest, fastest, most battery efficient, you've gotta do this to do that, but don't do this if you want that (assuming I know WTF "that" is in the first place) otherwise you'll brick your phone (but you can maybe unbrick it this way), if you swallow this pill you'll get rid of one symptom but you'll get 15 other problems in it's place, etc...then I just say F'it and leave my phone the way it is lol
My wife has the note2, I have the s3 (both rooted, I'm running a custom rom). I think I'm gonna take her back to stock so so she can get the update, then I'll just flash a custom recovery and su zip. It'll give me a chance to clean up her phone.
Edit: thinking of using this
