So the other day my Evo started not going to sleep when I pressed the sleep button at the top. It would take several tries to get it to sleep. It slowly got worse and I tried flashing different roms and no dice. I'm thinking it is hardware. The weird thing is, it wakes up everytime on the first try. It just wont go back to sleep, I have to let the screen timeout which is really annoying. Also, if I keep trying to make it sleep sometimes it pops up the shut down menu even though I never held the button. It's like it either registers no button press or a long press but never in between. It still wakes up first try which is so weird.
WTF can I do?? I don't have Sprint insurance either. Can they do anything about it? Can I repair/replace that button or is it impossible?
Very possible to do it yourself I had a problem with mine and fixed it when I replaced my speaker. You will need a t5 screwdriver and a pry tool. I would give you links but I'm mobile. It might just be mis-aligned like mine was. As long as you're careful, its easy.

Thanks!!!!
You can use this as a reference to get the back off with the T5 screwdriver. http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-HTC-Evo-4G-Rear-Speaker/3067/1
Once you have the back part off just take a look up at the button, the tabs on the side might be off a tad. If it is broke (which I hope it isn't) here is a link for a new button. http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-power-button-replacement.html
Hope you get it!

Honestly, as far as in store, I don't know . I got mine from the site where I ordered my speaker from. It came with it.
I could get one but it would be a metal one. Not using that on my EVO, no way.

Had mine wear out too not to long ago, just took it to Sprint and they fixed it for me. They may or may not charge you 35 bucks for it though.

So last night i was just holding my phone and the screen literally just cracked for no reason. Has this happened to anyone else?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
HULK SMASH! lol... Not that I've read. Mines been just fine and I man handle it most of the time. Are you sure it didn't fall?
No i know it didn't fall.. I just don't know why it happened its unsettling to say the least. I haven't had any issues with the phone besides this. Its not like i was squeezing the crap out of it either.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
LOL, how the heck were you holding it? This is crazy. BTW, I accidentally thanked you. The post did make me laugh though so maybe you deserve a thanks. Were you playing Homerun Battle, struck out, and broke the phone over your knee?
that sounds way too strange. Was Jack Daniels involved?

Now that's funny. I find myself pressing the screen hard when playing that game. OP, there must have been some sort of hairline crack or something that wasn't visible. Maybe in the black area by softkeys. The glass on these phones is usually pretty tough

I was seriously just holding it. I took it out of my pocket and i went to make a call and the thing just cracked its so bizarre.

Did you have a picture of Chuck Norris in your other hand?
Hopefully you have tep
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Did you call yet or take it in? Got a picture? This happened to some OG Nexus phones and it was blamed on keeping the phone in your pockets with tight pants. I guess it could add stress to the screen when you squat or bend certain ways. Like someone else said there had to be hairline crack somewhere. Picture would help to see where it started.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yeah i have tep. I called all over the place since its screen damage they can't give a new one without the deductible. Its funny that you say that i was in skinny jeans but it broke when i took it out of my pocket. I have the nexus s for t-mobile and it never happened with that. Thank god for tep though..

Yesterday a teacher of mine took my phone and when I got home the screen started to fizzle. It has a blue-ish tint now and washed out colors.
What can be the problem & how can it be fixed w/o going to sprint?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Definitely a hardware issue. If you have TEP then it should be free to fix and 35 if not (bill the teacher lol). Take it to a sprint repair center.

I got insurance on my phone I just don't want to go to sprint and deal with the Q&A and 3hr wait. Can I make claim with asursion and not be charged since I have insurance ?

The areas where I touch is regular, but the colors are all washed out or have a blue or yellow tint by default. My screen isn't cracked if you were thinking that.

You actually give the phone to the teacher? Wow, much has changed since I've gone to school.
This is why I don't trust people with $500 phones...
Your best bet is to go though Sprint, like others have said.

Are there any bubbles on the screen? I'm trying to figure out if ur teacher dropped the phone and didn't tell u, or if they got any liquid in the phone. Because that sounds like a screen bleeding problem.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Since I'm in a nearly all girls semi-strict high school we could get suspensed or kicked out for not obeying the teachers(men are treated in my school like a black man in the 40s no rights at all) . And I'm thinking the teacher put pressure on the screen when he took it away from my friend, I seen him put it in his pocket with other people phones. When I approached him about it he denied it, which I knew he would do.

ok...yes, the screen has a bleeding problem. it's from the inner part of the screen. he put to much pressure on it. it's like when you press your finger on a computer screen and you get that funny discolorization... thats what happened. can you see the normal stuff on the screen though? or is there to much color on it?
this is a slight hardware problem that is sometimes fixable.

who is the idiot who could render such a beautiful device (ics keys as capacitive at bottom) yet the app drawer icon looks like poo? i JUST learned cs4 2 weeks ago and i coulda done better with the icon...
Ok let's just say it is fake... But what if Samsung decides to make the ics buttons into capacitive buttons and not built in to the screen like the nexus? From my understanding they always **** up Android to their liking so I wouldn't put it past them. I'm sure (to them) anything is better to differentiate them from the rest.

Hey guys I spilled some apple juice on my phone (I know I'm pissed to) but now my accelerometer works sometimes like ill boot the phone and it will work fine then nothing from another reboot. Its weird. Any ideas?

Probably got wet on the board. Shorted something out. I see this happen all the time at work.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Crap thats what i thought. Why is it working on and off then? I figured of it shorted out it would be dead for good (the accelerometer i guess). You think if i take the phone apart and clean up the board I might revive it?

there is just to much everywere. would it be overkill if I let the mainboard and the case (minus the battery) soak in alcohol for like 10 to 20 minutes and then blow dry them?
Probably
With electronics, usually bute force isnt the name of the game..
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
hmm well I just dabbed little drops of alcohol on the internal parts and were the apple juice was and blew it out with canned, and I'm going to let it dry now for a while before I put it back together.

I already tried they wont let me. but something else that's weird, I thought maybe restoring back to stock might work if its something software related to I tried restoring to zv7 with the link in the IRC using lgnpst and lgnpst is not flashing the bootloader or anything for that matter. any ideas why? I can get the phone in download mode and lgnpst does its regular thing, the phone reboots at 67% like normal, then it sits at the 4g LTE logo on the boot animation until it overheats and shuts off. I tried getting into the bootloader and it will not show it. if I hold vol up+vol down+power, it just goes straight to the boot animation from a cold start.
