CyanogenMod - 6.1.1 - NEED HELP NOW!! HTC EVO.. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an evo and rooted it correctly.. I used Rom manager to download CyanogenMod 6.1.1 and Installed onto my phone. It works, but I cannot open apps like market, browser, sms, etc. without the a notification popping up saying CONSTANTLY and I mean all the time.. like every 15 seconds saying "Android.process.acore" has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
what do I do to fix this? I made a nandroid back up so I can flash back, but I'd rather not if I can eliminate this problem...

Did you install the g-apps zip? If yes, did you install the right type (hdpi)?
Those are two things that come to mind for me.
Swyped on my PC36100 using tapatalk!

You should flash AmonRA recovery from Rom Manager (Clockwork is nice, but rumors of bad wiping habits exsist)
Download the actual zip of CM6.1.1 and Gapps
Put them on the root of your SD card
Boot into recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik (twice if you want to be sure)
Flash from zip - CyanogenMod 6.1.1
Flash from zip - gapps
Wipe cache and dalvik again. Reboot
(unless you don't want to lose any of your data, thats the way to flash clean and fresh) I use MyBackup Pro (worth the 5$) to backup all my SMS and MMS etc. Never had a problem with it ever. Love it over Titanium Backup

[Q] need some help

so imma newbie and i tryed to flash the destroyer rom onto my evo when i reboot run the rom it keep showing destroyer animation over and over does anyone else know why ?
Wait 10 mins, if nothing, try reboot, still nothing? Flash again.
Make you sure you follow directions when flashing a custom rom. Wipe data/cache/dalvik cache.
hTC Evo CM7-n17
You didn't flash it correctly and you got what is called bootlooping. Just wipe factory/data, cache, and dalvik and then try again.
It will bootloop if you flash the ROM and gapps in the same recovery session. You have to flash ROM, reboot, then go back into recovery, wipe dalvik and flash gapps. If you want the extras, flash larger gapps first, then reboot again and wipe dalvik and flash smaller gapps.
so i reflashed it worked just one problem my visual voicemail doesn't work at all

You need to either flash back to a sense rom, verify that it works, like have someone call you and leave a message, then use titanium to backup the app and data, flash back to The Destroyer rom, restore the app and data, NOT system settings, or use google voice or a third party carrier.

[Q] can't run any new rom, hangs at white htc incredible screen on boot

I rooted the incredible using unrevoked, no problem.
Installed and ran root apps, no problem, backed up everything using titanium backup and rom manager (nandroid) and so forth, installed cw recovery 3.0.0.8.
When I install the skyraider 4 rom from rom manager, it reboots and installs, but then when it reboots again it hangs at the white htc incredible screen (and I've let it wait as long as a half an hour). I have to take out the battery to be able to reboot it.
I can boot back to recovery and then re-install and boot back to the stock rooted rom just fine. But I can't get a new rom installed and working.
I've looked at previous threads about this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038402
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023358
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991953
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739646
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620621
and several other threads on other sites.
The only suggestions to come out of those, other that starting over from scratch (which I've done multiple times now), were to reformat the sd card, which I've also done, and to downgrade to cm recovery 2.5.1.2. Rom manager only shows versions as old as 3.0.0.5. I have put the PB31IMG.zip file on the sd card and loaded that before to help recover but I don't see how that helps with installing a new rom.
Any other suggestions? The main reason I even need a new rom is because bluetooth doesn't work in the stock rom (known issue: http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/91/p/2336/8570.aspx )
It sounds like you are not wiping cache and Davlik (in advanced). The constant reboot of the white screen is a classic symptom of not performing a cache and Davlik wipe

appreciate your help, yeah I've been doing that everytime in rom manager. I tried it several times manually in cm recovery, too, and still the white screen.
I'll just see if verizon can exchange it, or else I'll sell it for another phone with working bluetooth.
Might try reverting to the 2.5.1.2 recovery as I've heard the 3.x.x.x ones don't wipe consistently.

There is a flash of CWM 2.5 that temporarily lets you use that to flash the rom then when you reboot it will revert back. Try that.

[Q] Camera flash not working with Synergy RC1

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I tried searching multiple times and couldn't find anything about this. I just recently flashed my phone following the directions from the developer and the only major issue that I know of is the camera flash will not work when taking a picture in low light. I also tried the "flashlight" app and that also won't turn on the light either. Before I try re-flashing the ROM, is there anything I can try before? Thanks for the help...
I can assure you that it is NOT the rom, unless, of course, you have a corrupt download. My camera flashes like it is suppose to and my flashlight turns on and i am currently using the Synergy RC-1 rom. You can try rebooting into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik and then re-flash Synergy atop your current install.

Thanks for your help. I hate to re-flash after configuring the layout the way I like but if that's what it takes then I'll do that.

If you're going to reflash the same Synergy rom then go into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik and then make a nandroid backup of only your data as well as android.secure & sdext partitions. (If you do not have any apps saved on the android.secure [usually paid apps] and/or the sdext partition then disregard including them in the backup). Afterwards, flash the Synergy rom, boot to your homescreen, and then clear all of the default widgets from your homescreens. When you're finished, reboot into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik then restore the backup that you made of your data, android.secure & sdext, if applicable. Whe the restore it complete, boot to your homescreen. You will find them as they were in the previous installation of the rom.

[Q] WTF is up with my phone???

Hey everyone,
Ok, here's the deal. I flash new ROM's by CM or Amon and I get the message saying SD card unmounted. Go to settings to mount it, it shows as no SD card installed. Reboot into recovery, SD available. I've read clearing cache and davlik a few times usually clears up any initial load problems for new ROM's. Nope, doesn't help. Reboot shows no SD installed
Back into Recovery.
Mount SD card?
Tried it. Still unmounts on boot.
BUT...
Not on ALL ROM's.
I'm running Myn's Warm 2.2 fine (well, some laggyness)
I'm running 1975jamie's King Cocoa II True Blue just fine
I ran Cyogen fine (just don't like AOSP ROM's)
MIUI ran great.
I'm dying to keep the new line of Sense 3 ROM's.
They all install, load, and boot just fine.
I get to the initial "new user" setup stages and they all connect and sync just fine, then POOF! I get the little SD card symbol in the upper left hand corner saying SD card unmounted...
I ignore that to check out the ROM's and they scroll just fine, everything opens and closes fine.
Any ideas?
Jack
Are you flashing in recovery or with ROM Manager?
Last flashed ROM was Warm 2.2
Used ROM Manager to D/L ROM, add on's, and flash them.
All boxes checked prior to flashing (Backup, Cache, Cache/Davlik)
Previously was running Warm 2.2 (prior to King Cocoa II), but flashed through CM.
Both flashing methods yielded no problems.
Flashed MIUI in Recovery AND ROM Manager to test.
Both yielded no problems.
Every other ROM, but the 4 I listed in my OP, shows no SD card.
So basically, list of WORKING Rom's installed and run, in order, were:
Warm 2.2 then
New install of King Cocoa II then
New install of Cyogen then
New install of Warm 2.2 (deleted backup for fresh start) then
New install of MIUI then
Backup of Warm 2.2
Only backups I still have are KC 2, Warm, and MIUI.
In between some of those I tried flashing other ROMS, but all croaked with no SD message...
Jack
I don't recommend using Rom manager for flashing roms. Rom manager and clockwork mod tend to not wipe cleanly. You should gave better luck using only amon ra. Wipe everything 3 times(except sd) before flashing. If you still have issues, try formating your sd card on your computer.

That's all well and good, but doesn't explain why only 4 ROM's flash "right" on my phone regardless of what method I use, lol
Gotta tell ya though, as much as I've liked this Evo...
The Samsung Galaxy S II is looking better and better every day.
I can't promise, but I can assure that you'll have better results using Amon Ra and flashing in recovery.
The best method is do a nandroid of you current working ROM. Backup everything but cache (arguable), then go to wipe and wipe every setting there is once, except the SD card itself, and the battery stats, if you're not fully charged.
Then wipe Dalvik cache and cache 2 times.
Then flash your ROM.
If you REALLY wanna do it up right, before you flash the new ROM, back up your SD Card to your computer, format it in Windows with a card reader, then put it back in the phone, go to partition, in Recovery.
Partition using 64mb for swap (arguable.. some people put 0) and 1024 for EXT partition.
When it's done, convert to EXT3.
Then copy all your stuff back to your SD Card.
Flash your ROM and then flash DT APS2SD before you reboot. I know a lot of ROMS have it baked in, but I still flash it manually.
Once your ROM boots (if it does) let the phone just sit til the screen shuts off, then reboot to Recovery and do another Nandroid, so you have a backup of a stock/working version of your ROM. Flash a custom kernel if you want to (wipe cache and Dalvik Cache first), then reboot. Let your phone settle again (til the screen turns off) then start setting things up, Google acct., apps, etc.
If you use Titanium backup to restore your apps, ONLY RESTORE apps/Data that you put on your phone. No Google apps, no System apps, No HTC apps.
Then reboot again, when you're done.
Yes, it will take some time to do all this.
Yes, you will have very little chance of problems like force closes, reboots, etc.
Now if you REALLY REALLY want to do it right, do a nandroid of your current setup, and then flash a stock/Sense ROM in recovery and Nandroid that so you have a stock setup for flashing GPS fixes, updating your profile, etc.
(BTW, having a stock setup means you can probably just flash that and not unroot if you have to take your phone in at all)
Is your card partitioned if so did you partition it after you backed up warm 2.2 .
You may need to fix sdext in recovery or run a fix using your computer I had something like that happen and I fixed it by mounting to my PC in recovery then started to copy some files then just stopped it in the middle of coping and when I plunged it back in my PC recognized there was a problem and ran a fix for it .
I know that sounds kind of geto.

Just thought I put in my 2 cents. I Used to use Rom Manager to download roms but I experienced a lot of force closes. Now, I always flash thru recovery. I Factory wipe 3 times, I also use calkulin's format 3 times, clear cache 3 times and clear delvick cache 3 times... then flash. Also, read thru the forums on the roms you are using this maybe a problem with that rom. I personally have not the issue you have.

theme nobb question..(never done it b4, yes im rooted)

so i'm rooted with unrevoked3
i have titanium back up
nandroid
rom manager
quick boot
(im assuming i have the essentials to flash custom rom and or theme this phone)
id like to put this theme on my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189975
i'm just not sure on HOW to do it...
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache <~~ not sure how to or where to do this
Flash Theme <~~~uhm ok would i use the rom manager (after backing up my fone) to do this?
so any help would be greatly appreciated..and yes i DID search the forum, just didn't find anything that would help me..
If you using rom manager, I assume you have clockwork recovery.
1. Boot into recovery, then on the menu, hit wipe cache partition, then under advanced, select wipe dalvik cache
2. Go back, on the menu, hit install zip from sd card > choose zip > find the theme, select, and flash it
3. reboot.
dude i am in so much appreciation of you really, its ppl like you that make this place awesome..again thank you..
question 2..will i lose all my text messages i have saved on the wipe?
(i do have a program that lets me back them up to my gmail) but id like them in my fone still..IF u know this let me know please thank you =)
No wiping cache and dalvik cache should not erase texts

For the record, I suggest you switch from CWM and ROM manager and get amon ra recovery. Amon ra wont fail you ever. Also, whenever your going to flash something like a kernel, theme, or tweak its recommended to wipe cache and dalvik. If youre really worried about losing your text you should download a messaging app like go sms cause whenever you do a full wipe (factory reset) you will lose your messages, unless you have a third party messaging app saving all of it
FYI, that theme is for Synergy rom. If you are not on synergy rom, it will not work, and you will mess everything up.
+1 for Go SMS Pro....It's way better than the stock messaging app, with pop up texts and the ability to back up your messages before a wipe.
