My old mytouch slide (1st version that came out) was only stable @ 806 mhz. My new one (2nd version) that i got as a replacement can go up to 921 mhz :O. From the outside i kno the keyboards r different (the zero has a slash on it) but is there possibly any internal hardware differences?

"possibly"... yes. For sure though... I dunno...

Yeah it's possible. I have one with a slash through the zero, supposedly newer, but I am only 100% stable up to 844mhz. I CAN clock up to and boot with 864mhz but if there is sustained 100% load it will freeze occasionally so I keep it at 844. I tried one of dumfuq's test kernels, couldn't get it to boot fully before freezing, and i'm pretty sure it was the 921 kernel. Or maybe it was 906 or 916 or something rather, I don't remember but it wouldn't boot.

I have noticed a HUGE drop in network speed since flashing a new kernel. I'm talking a drop from 1-1.3mb down to 300-500kb. What gives?

I'm not sure if its the kernel.. when I rooted my phone and changed rom, I indeed had double the speed I had stock. I asked this a few times around here and no one replied.. I notice with true static kernel I go into data roaming. Again Not sure. But when I had and will switch badlck to is snap 8.1 850. So I'd like to know this too..

Make sure it's not something simple as testing at different times of day. Testing late at night or early morning and you'll always see fester speeds with less network traffic.
same here - the drop in speeds for me hasnt been as bad if i using a cm6 nightly but if i go back to sense rom the speeds are horrible
I've been continuing to test my speeds throughout the day, even on different servers. My download speed has struggled to reach 1.0mb on maybe one out of 10 times. The biggest problem I'm seeing is my upload speed. It seems to be VERY unstable. Usually the test will freeze and then when it ends my speed ends up being something like 50kb. I've been on Calkulins EViO 1.1 for a while but I've been doing quite a bit of kernel testing. Right now I'm on King's BFS #8. I think when I get some time later I'm going to do some actual tests. I also installed and backed up the new Fresh 3.2 with the newest HTC stock kernel so I'll probably give that a try as well.
If you are using Setcpu try putting it in performance mode at 998 MHz or higher and see if you get better speeds. I have been doing some testing as my house is in a week signal area. It turns out most, if not all of these kernels are undervolted. Good for battery life, but it seems to reduce the radio's sensitivity. At my house I lose signal whenever my speed drops to 245 MHz, which indicates to me that the radio is not getting enough voltage to lock the signal. I could be wrong, but it would be interesting to see what you guys get if you force it to not drop the voltage. I think most of the kernels keep the voltage stock at 998 MHz or higher.
speeds across kernels & set cpu settings
This isn't the most scientific comparison but i would like to know if others are finding similar results. (i am located in NYC and still trying to figure out why sprint still doesn't have the 4G network running here - I know its up in a few small pockets..)
I think all of these results are pretty sad IMO - with that being said there seems to be a boost in speed when using setcpu at the performance setting:
The first three were run on Fresh's Newest 3.2 release (Supersonic 3.28.651.1) and the rest on CM6 final
Wiped cache and dalvik between Kernel swaps -
Round 1:
Fresh's newest kernel w/ no setcpu - average speed of 666 kbps down
Fresh's newest kernel w/ setcpu on peformance (998) - 849 kbps down
Round 2:
netarchy-toastmod-4.1.8-cfs-bfq-fresh-compatible- no setcpu -615 kbps down
netarchy-toastmod-4.1.8-cfs-bfq-fresh-compatible- setcpu (119)-758 kbps down
Round 3:
KiNgxKernel-Evo-8-BFS318-2.6.32.15- no setcpu - 609 kbps down
KiNgxKernel-Evo-8-BFS318-2.6.32.15- setcpu (119) -730 kbps down
Round 4:
CM6 FINAL - stock kernel - no setcpu - 908 kbps down

I think the problem is just fluctuation in network speed. Also the other problem is the speedtest.net app! It is so freaking inaccurate yet everybody seems to like using it.....instead I recommend the xtremelabs.app in the market. I hear the website for speedtest.net is more accurate though. I have seen my network speeds flex from 300kb to 1.5 mb in my house.

New Sprint OTA 3.28.651.1 - HUGE DIFFERENCE
I just went back to the stock New Sprint OTA 3.28.651.1 - that flipz released a few days ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773444
and my speeds are now between 1.2 and 1.5 on 3G - as compared to 650 - 700 kbps on the custom roms and kernels... might be worth looking into for those who are having issues.
I'm running cr_mod w/ ota update, with dumfuq's cmkernel 4.0 flashed over it, and I ran a quadrant benchmark for the hell of it and it gave me a 400 and something, while clocked at 844 mhz. Cm6 gave me a 1200 and something. Now I know my phone isn't performing that low, because frankly, although not quite as snappy, has smoother animations and such. I can see it scoring as low as an 1100 or 1000 on the stock rom, but 800 points lower? A measley 400? I'm thinking of discrediting the score, since in my everyday use, I know it is not that bad. I just can't think of what would throw the score down THAT low. Might it have something to do with the kernel I flashed?

It doesn't have jit which and it's 2.1 as we have seen putting 2.2 on a phone dramatically increases scores mainly due to jit. Though you may not see too many differences in speed but they are there.

Cm7 would be 2.3...But the score will always be lower on a sense rom than stock, Cm has perf features that cant be added to the stock rom...But if you use the jit mod for 2.1 you will get about 5xx w/ OC at max...Which is low, but you have to consider that this is meant as a mid-low range device...Have you seen some of the newest lowend androids out there? Like the optimus or whatever the LG phone is-it's nothing compared to the slide IMO.

I know cm7 is gingerbread, I don't like cm6, battery drain bug with cell radio. That's why I want to wait. I know its a midrange phone, still gets 1200 on cm6. Like I said, the user experience is fine I'll just leave it alone

The scores don't translate into better performance for me, in CM6 it's quick w/o OC-just like on stock where it's fast w/ def clocks. But I do like to see higher values just for the hell of it.

Yeah, haha I actually studied the quadrant test as it was running, it seems to have HORRIBLE, and I mean REALLY REALLY bad file system write times. It took forever to get past those tests.
I flashed CM6.1 stable, because of a combination of my obsessive ROM flashing syndrome (according to r0man) and my desire to get the gingerbread Latin IME on my phone. Plus, I used what's-his-face's anyfirmware theme porter to port the green theme in miguel's theme port thread to cm6.1-stable, since miguel's is based off of a nightly. The font didn't get ported, but I was in it for the visual elements anyway, so no big issue there. cm6.1 is faster, but the 2d animations are more prone to lag than sense roms, for whatever reason. Someone once told me that it was because HTC puts their own window animations in and adds more frames to them to make them smoother.
Anyway, I guess the quadrant scores didn't matter too much, sense was awesome, but I'm happy where I am with cm6.1-stable themed. Quadrant scores are quite pleasing as well
hello i was wondering if the Mytouch 3G Slide could be overclocked to 1ghz? if the droid can do it why cant the mytouch?
Any Responses Will Be Greatly Appreciated
The highest the Slide can be overclocked is 864 mHz and even at that it is VERY UNSTABLE. So the answer is. *Pause For Effect!* No... But! I find it to be very stable at 800 mHz, So that is what I would recommend. I hope it works out for you!

I notice a difference. And I like to be a tiny bit zippier. However I only get to 825 anyways.
Plus while they're both 600mhz, they're different hardware, I'm sure.
Different hardware is the key contributor there. SOME people with newer slides have gotten up to 925 mhz on dumfuq's experimental kernels, but I can't get above 844. I mean, I CAN clock to 864, but within an hour or so it will have frozen or rebooted. 844 only freezes or reboots rarely, it's 90% stable, but I keep it on 825 to be safe. I notice a big difference in screen animations, mainly drawer effects.
I have a release date slide from early june 2010...im running arayray revamped and run at 864 stable constantly...i guess im lucky?

I got my slide about 4 or 5 months ago and it's running stable at 864 as well, but I prefer to run it @ 245min/787max. I'm back to running CM6.1.1 as well and my slide doesn't get warm anymore. It runs for around 30 - 34 hours between charging while still being snappy and crisp.
mine can run 864 Stable too haha....guess im lucky too
I got a G2 (HTC Vision) a few days ago, and it was already rooted. I have no clue about rom development, kernels, etc for the G2 and was wondering why it was running so slow. Also under set cpu, what speed should I clock it to?
It is running 2.3.3 with the kernel 2.6.32.28-cyanogenmod-g4f4ee2e [email protected] #1
the rom i believe is cm7-htc vision, build number GRI40
Well am not using CM7 not a big fan but the devs are awesome. Anyways on setcpu put max to 1.5 GHZ and Min to 1 GHZ. Am not really sure why your g2 is slow. Maybe you can reflash the rom or maybe you have to many wigets/Apps running.

Having "too many apps" shouldn't affect your data speed nor should overclocking it do anything. Your data is WHAT it is, WHERE it is. For example, at home I get HSPDA (the H) and get a max of 1010 kb/s where as to the parking lot at my job, I can get an average of 1400kb/s. Which is a huge difference. Both are still fast (roughly 1mb/s to 1.4mb/s per second.. not to be confused with Mbits) It all depends on your location and the actual signal you get there. Just test it out a little around town or when you're out of town and you'll see. I suggest using speed test to get accurate results.

I certainly know that overclocking have nothing to do with it. But up until now, my area always give me a good 2.3mbps at most. I have gotten below 1mbps on my g2 so i raised the minimum cpu setting and got higher speeds. Thanks though.
Have you tried amazinglarry's superwipeg2+ yet.... helped me out

Safe but not very useful. Above 1 GHz the gains are negligible. I say setting the min at 1GHz is a little silly though. I can't see how he's getting good battery life with it constantly running that high.

so I've noticed that over time, my phone has been freezing and rebooting less even when clocked 2 a (what used 2 be) a slightly unstable clock frequency (921 mhz). Is it possible that maybe the phone's hardware just gets used to the overclock? or is it because I'm updating 2 a nightly cm7 build everyday?

Some kernels overclock better than others.
Most people have experienced problems with overclocking the Slide higher than 864. Try it at that speed and see how it is, mine runs great at 864.
