[MOD] - Rosie Remaps! Personalize your "Personalize" button--UPDATE UNLIMITED Options
The right soft key on the rosie 'dock' which pulls up the "Personalize" menu is useless and redundant. You can already long click anywhere on the home screen to bring it up, or press Menu --> Personalize. It's just not important enough of a button to warrant a third method of bringing up the drawer!
Well now you have options. I've made many different files to remap it to various common apps, and one general file that can be mapped to any app of your choosing. (Check the image at the bottom of this post to see the corresponding icon changes)
---------------------------------------------------------------
[UPDATE 1.1.11]:
I have been getting many requests for various random apps, and in an effort not to make a hundred different remaps, I have now made one generic one that can be mapped to any application through the use of the an awesome app (made by appelflap) called LaunchKey. He offers 2 versions, one on the market for only ~0.65 cents, and a lite version available on the forum for free here. If you like his work, PLEASE buy the market version, its cheap and we all know you will get tons and tons of use out of it!
How it works: Install the LaunchKey app. Follow instructions below to push my modified Rosie_custom.apk to your phone. Open LaunchKey and use it to select which app to open. When you press the right dock button on my modified rosie.apk it will open whatever app that you have chosen from inside the LaunchKey app. That's it! You can change what application is opened at any time from within LaunchKey with ease!
Note: LaunchKey can also be set to toggle some system functions, or open a quick menu with a list of 8 or so of your favorite apps. The donate version has even more options. Its a really nice app, so seriously buy the donate version in the market
Download Rosie_custom.apk here

-Browser
-HTC/Google messaging app
-HTC contacts app
-Gmail
-Gvoice
-Maps
-Gtalk
-Market
-Gallery
-Facebook
-Turn off screen (this one requires the Kill Screen app to work, see my thread here)
-Handcent SMS
-Chomp SMS
-HTC Mail app
-Camera
-XDA app
[Info]:
The original rosie.apk was taken from the Virtuous ROM. It has been confirmed working with ANY Virtuous 0.7.x, 0.8.x and 0.9.x versions.
However, this is the version without the auto-rotate modification. Meaning it only switches to landscape mode when the keyboard is out. I find the auto-rotate too sensitive, as the home screen is always flipping on me when I don't want it too. I may make versions of this with the auto-rotate mods later, if enough people want it.
[How To]:
-Grab the appropriate file that you want (some attached to second post). The names are self explanatory
-Save it somewhere on your computer
-Plug your phone into usb
-Reboot into recovery
-Type this in a command prompt
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/app/com.htc.launcher.apk
adb push [your saved file location]\Rosie_xxxxx.apk /system/app/com.htc.launcher.apk-Reboot
-Enjoy
I may make options to open other apps later. For now though, these were the most common requests when I did this mod for the Espresso launcher. If you like it, feel free to donate
More files attached here.
Maybe one for Gtalk as well?

Excellent! I love it.
At the risk of appearing greedy...
Any chance of seeing the app-drawer button get the same treatment? Same rationale: if you need it hit menu and there it is already!
Gmail on the left, phone in the middle and messaging on the right would make me a happy man
Very nice!!! .... any chance of a tut so we can do it ourselves for other ROMS?

You need smali and baksmali to decompile apk or odex then go through the out folder and edit the launcher.smali file and recompile into classes.dex using smali place in apk and done more steps are needed if you have to reodex

This is great and I followed all the instructions and while the actual button press is working great and getting me to the messaging app the icon itself has not changed from the initial personalize one. Maybe it is because I am using the metal skin?
Edit - Yeah, that seems to be it because the icon is appearing correctly using the default HTC skin. Is there any way to change this because I really like the Metal skin
I was waiting for something like this before I flashed another sense rom. You are one great person thanks I will be trying this out after I get home from work

Just copy the appropriate apk to your sdcard using whatever method and then from term:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp -f /sdcard/Rosie_gmail.apk /system/app/com.htc.launcher.apk
sync
mount -o ro,remount /system
Remember to change Rosie_gmail.apk to whatever file you are using.
Worked fine for me. The launcher reset itself and all was fine (I had to remove/re-add a widget or two, for some reason, but no biggie).
my dxtop, home app does the same thing
Glad everyone likes them. More options should be up with in the next hour here, including the requests for market and gtalk.

True, but the app drawer only has one other method, vs two. Plus I would figure its used more frequently than the personalize button. But I'll see if I can make a gmail/phone/messaging version when I get a little more time. Just finishing up a few other versions of this and another little project that I have going on which should be up today

Yes, you need to open up the Metal skin, replace the personalize_on.png and personalize_rest.png images in both the drawable-land-hdpi and drawable-port-hdpi folders with the ones from the rosie_xxxx.apk you installed.

I Must Say:
This is really nice, I do have a reg editor, which is really all this is. But it has a great GUI, and unlike the OldSAPFavorites, it actually works like it's supposed to work.
I am really impressed by the author, and heck I might even try to improve on this. Although I don't really see how.
Props to the author, and to everyone who hasn't checked this out, it's definitely worth the time. It takes you to exactly what you want to edit. Updates it perfectly.
Rock on!!!
Aww man... This GREATLY eliminates the headache of having to do this through the registry! It's pretty much the same process--just a more user friendly interface!

Ops! Stupid me. Should try the apps first before commenting.
Anyway how about a module to modify the layout - changing the cpr file's fontsize, text placement and slide size. Make a visual presentation of changes being made.
Currently in order to see changes made to the cpr file, require changes in the settings>homescreen.
Thanks and thanks for such a useful apps.

And how do you propose he accomplish that ? You STILL have to reload the CHome plugin to see your changes. Besides, making a GUI editor for the CPR files could prove to a huge pain in the ass, probably not worth his time

Just responding to his comments. Too bad I'm not a coder. Well, if it can be done without hurting anyones's a$$,well and good. Otherwise....
Only suggestions I could think of for an improvements is perhaps getting rid of red for the disabled ones. Its a non-standard GUI practice. More commonly the disabled would be grey, or struck through, and an icon pair, like perhaps an eye & a circleslash (or similar) would denote the visiblity of the active ones. And maybe some way of not moving them to the bottom if they are enabled-invisible, but letting them stay in place.
Still, rather trifling things, and very nice app, that should be standadrd in any 6.1 ROM, as of now, IMHO, and should probably be in the settings Cpanel! Good stuff.
There is no software without bugs
There was a bug in version 0.9.0.0 which prevents Softkey2 URL to keep it value after the settings are saved. So I have updated the software to version 0.9.0.1. Please read the first post for more details.

It would be nice but it would be more like a software running on PC not on the phone because of its complexity and I don't think I'll have time for that for awhile

Belive me, grouping the panels by their visibility is more difficult to do than leaving them in place but I chose that way because it represents exactly what the user will get on the homescreen.
*Off topic*The version number starts at 0.9.x.x: because I haven't had enough time to implement every features I have planned for version 1.0.
Features still not implemented:
Changing page order on Customize window
Adding/Deleting page on Customize window
First of all, thank you for making such a great app. I installed it on my Vox and it works great. The only question I have is: How can I add the CLinks page? When I make it visible, it's not on the homescreen, because it's just not present in the reg. Is there an easy way of adding it?
so i was messin around with it because it diddnt seem you work i hid all the panles and now it wont load even a blank screen when i reset it it freezes at with the start menu bar showing and the windows wait symbol anyone got an idea or am i F'd
Can you still open it with Active Sync? Because if, you might wanna delete the sliding themes and then reboot. It'll probably show that it can't load a layout, but you can acces the startmenu again.

I tried that myself and it required a hard reset to fix the problem. I didn't expect the homescreen to crash like that when no panel is visible (typical Microsoft QA
To do a hardreset:
- Turn off the phone
- Remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back
- Hold both your soft keys for a couple seconds and then while still holding the 2 keys, press power on.
I'll make sure that there's must be at least one visible panel in the next release.
Top Bar Gone
When I install either this one or CHome Weather, the top bar with the status icon disappears. If I uninstall both, the top bar reappears. I have tried it several times, and I get the same results. Any ideas?

Does it just reload the homescreen? If it does, it want work with for people using the TestUIPlugin(like CHome Weather). If this panel is being used, then a reboot is needed to reload the homescreen. But I could be wrong, I was once before.

Which Sliding Panel layout is your homescreen set to?
This theme is no longer supported. DL link is no longer available. If you really want this thing or if you want to take over development for it, I will happily send you the zip.
I have an HTC EVO 4G now. I may look into theming for it later, but right now, just don't have the time. You can find my HAL 9000 boot animation at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14004487. I posted the boot animation I made for myself.
IMPORTANT: THE LATEST VERSION (1.7) WAS DESIGNED FOR 3.6.8.1. PLEASE READ THE CHANGE LOG IN THE SECOND POST TO FIND THE CORRECT THEME FOR THE ROM YOU ARE RUNNING. (Not trying to "yell," guys. Just want to keep people from flashing this theme and hosing their phones.)
This theme port is a mesh of Cyanogen's theme template, this theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517338) posted by parmenti who used elements from Aero [ultra spikey] and Gloss Suite [moonsspoon] and added elements of his own. I created a custom boot screen. Thanks to Temporizer for making HAL's eye "pulsate"! And much thanks to Ohsaka for pointing me to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535630) which allowed me to fix the "invisible" notification messages in the status bar. Special thanks also goes out to sir*mez of the PrOdigal_SuN team for providing the XML files needed for the 5x4/6x3 app drawer in all versions preceding 1.5. Thanks to Ohsaka's services.jar color changer app, updates take a lot less time. I've had a lot of help on this theme. There are some pretty wonderful people in this community always willing to help.
PLEASE READ THE FAQ AND TO DO LISTS AT THE END OF THIS FIRST POST BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS OR ISSUES. IT MAY SAVE YOU LOTS OF TIME IN SEARCHING AND KEEP YOU FROM BEING REPRIMANDED BY OTHER USERS FOR ASKING QUESTIONS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED. LET'S TRY TO KEEP THIS THREAD FRIENDLY. WE'RE A COMMUNITY AFTER ALL.
I've ported it for Cyanogen's 1.5r2 v3.6.5. I've got it running on my phone now. So far no problems. Well, there was one problem. I was running the Hero theme. Be sure to remove this theme before you try to install another theme. I got Force Closes all over the place. I keep a baseline install of the ROM with apps installed and configured and swap partition set up just in case I have to fall back. I'm posting the screenshots I have. I also customized the boot screen with Temporizer's help. If enough people want the original Android boot screen, I'll post a version with that. Just let me know. Please be patient when asking for support. I have a full time job, an expensive boyfriend and a kid.

The above images are my home screen. There are widgets included in this theme. On screen five, the internal and SD memory widgets are included. In the screen below, the toggle widgets on the top row are all included. (These are cool, but I use Toggle Settings (Cupcake) to toggle as I keep it in the notification bar so it is available even if I'm not on the home screen.)
EDIT: Lots of questions about widgets. Here goes:
Screen 1
HAL boot screen (included in theme...pulsating eye...static image only available in v1.0...if enough people want it back, I'll make it available for each version)
Screen 2
I used BetterBookmarks (free market app) to create the Wells Fargo link. Got the TuneWiki player widget on there. The rest are just app links.
Screen 3
All app links.
Screen 4
Everyone wants the weather/clock widget. This is a paid app in Android Market called Weather Widget - Donate that costs $1.49. It's worth the money, guys. There are free skin downloads and it seems pretty easy to skin it yourself. Also, you can change the skin without removing and re-adding the widget by firing up the app. On the bottom row, worth noting, is the shortcut to the Lock 2.0 app. I have the Donate version, not the free version. There is a free version. Very cool lockscreen app. Allows me to use the default notification bar, which lets me still pull it down when the phone is locked. Also, you can slide to unlock and it's skinnable. I also have a link to Dialer, just because sometimes I want to go right to it. The rest are contact links I created using BetterCut (paid app in the market), but you can also just create contact links.
Screen 5
Google Search, Starred Contacts live folder, Internal Memory, SD Memory and Voice Text widget. (Voice Text is a paid app in the market). The rest are all app links. And yes, that is CoPilot Live GPS navigation software. I sprang $35 for it in the market. Now I have a portable GPS system. AWESOME! (Yeah, I sang that in a joyous high pitch.)
Screen 6
All app links.
Screen 7
App tray.
Screen 8
This is from Cyanogen's ROM...just included here so you can see that the Reboot Phone option is available.
Alternate Home Screen
BT, Brightness, GPS and WiFi toggle widgets (all included in this theme). Internal and SD memory widgets also included in the theme. Starred Contacts Live folder and TuneWiki Playlists Live folder. The rest are contact links I created using BetterCut (paid app in the market), but you can also just create contact links.
Notification Bar
I use two apps that show on the left side of the notification bar always. One is Toggle Settings (Cupcake). This is a free app available in the market that enables me to change phone settings for various things like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 2G/3G, etc from any screen as long as I can see the notification bar. Very cool app that I wouldn't want to be without. The other is Weatherbug. I like this one because it keeps the weather in the notification bar so I can always see it. Plus I think it may be more accurate than my weather/clock widget. May have to test that to see which one is better.
As near as I can tell, all of the features of the ROM are still intact. I can still pull down the notifications bar when the screen is locked. Still have the Reboot option. Still have the special Settings screen that shows SD card secondary memory. I'm happy to make it available as a download, but remember, I'm not in the business of supporting extra stuff. And by support, I mean I don't want to answer questions about how to flash the ROM, how to install a radio, how to change out icons. All of these questions have answers (lots of answers) elsewhere. Please try to keep this thread on topic as it gets hard to find information if things get out of hand. (Those who followed the first JACHero thread know this all too well.) If you need off-topic help, PM me. I'll respond as soon as I can.
You can download the theme at http://www.4shared.com/file/119754684/b12eb22/android_plus_theme_port_17_public_cm-3681-signed.html
. (Remember to rename this file to update.zip and place in the root of your SD card. Then you should just be able to boot into recovery to apply the theme.) Download links for older versions of this theme are available in the change log (2nd post).

Give it time. The first time you flash this theme, it will take a while to load up.
I'm experiencing a lot of lag.
I run a lot of widgets and have icons on every screen. This theme is perfect for that in that it still looks great if you cover three of the four rows on every home screen (and even some of the fourth row if you lay it out right on each screen). I'm running a swap partition. Learn how at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531988. Some people are running Swapper, which is a free download in the market. Info available in other areas of xda. I experience practically no lag once my phone has booted up completely.
How do I get screenshots on the G1?
I'm just going to preface this by saying this question is completely off-topic for this thread. Temporizer provided these links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508541&highlight=ddms and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450741&highlight=screenshot.
My SuperUser app is crashing.
This isn't an issue with the ROM OR the theme. it's actually an issue with Cyanogen's 1.3.1 recovery.
Reboot into recovery (home + power)
Drop down to console (alt-x) and type this:
Code:
mount /system
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
reboot

*****TO DO*****
Replace icons with a different icon pack or custom icons. Weighing options now. Open to suggestions.
Rework colors to blend better with theme.
Replace icon for ringer toggle widget. Currently, it's the only blue widget. (Request by Ohsaka)

Change Log
VERSION 1.7 Works with Cyanogen's ROM v3.6.8.1.
Does not have the modified Rounded Labs widgets by xidominicanoix as I am currently redesigning these in Photoshop. New icons coming. I don't like the thicker battery on the lock screen either. I will be switching back to the thinner battery that comes with Cyanogen's theme.
DL link no longer available. PM me if you really want this.
VERSION 1.6 (Works with Cyanogen's ROM v3.6.8. Courtesy of Temporizer. Thanks to xidominicanoix for GPS and WiFi Widgets. I have not had a chance to test this, but he has it running on his phone. I will let him field the questions on it.)
VERSION 1.5 (Works with Cyanogen's ROM v3.6.7.2. This one's courtesy of Temporizer, guys. While I had the stomach bug, he stepped up and ported the theme. I have not had a chance to test this, but he has it running on his phone. I will let him field the questions on it.)
VERSION 1.4 - Added 5x4/6x3 app drawer (courtesy of sir*mez of the PrOdigal_SuN team)
VERSION 1.3 - Fixed the invisible notification messages when and SMS or email are received.
DL link no longer available. PM me if you really want this.
VERSION 1.2 - Fixed the invisible "Clear notifications" button in the notification dropdown. I've been all through my phone to see if there are any adverse effects from this change. I have not found any, but it's four in the morning ("came without a warning...everybody's got a place to be"...name that tune) so I'm groggy. Might have missed something. If you find anything, let me know and I'll get it fixed.
VERSION 1.1 - People requested that HAL's eye in the boot screen "pulsate". temporizer created the images to make this illusion possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Temporizer! All credit to him for this update.
ORIGINAL VERSION 1.0 - Used Cyanogen's 1.5r2 v3.6.5 theme template and original theme posted by parmenti to create this theme.
Replaced stock Android boot "animation" with the HAL boot screen.

You may not see paid apps if you are not on a US or UK network. Try searching for market enabler app to be able to spoof the market.

I also wish to say thank you and IF you had not posted in CM's I would not, more than not, have found this 'way cool' theme.
Now, "IF" unlike others, it does not 'cause issues' when CM's next update comes out, I have found a keep-able theme.....
Also, you have some very interesting apps I did not know of. Would you mine sending me or posting what you have/like (the atrackdog app will email you a list that you can forward, copy and/or save and paste here ).

MIUI for Beginners
Source: http://en.miui.com/a-10.html
Already flashed MIUI ROM? OK, pick up your phone now, let’s start our happy journey of MIUI ROM.
The first step: selecting apps
Various apps will greatly enrich your cell phone, so firstly let’s select the apps to your taste. Use the Android Market and download what you would like. If you are using a backup app and restoring apps from a previous ROM, only restore the apps and not the data. Otherwise that will create a lot of force close issues.
Tip: How to copy files from the computer to the phone? First connect your phone to your computer via data cable, pull down the notification panel from the top of the phone, click “USB connected”, and then click "Turn on USB storage”.
After copying, do not forget to select the option of “Turn off USB storage”, otherwise "File Manager” in the phone will not be able to find the sd card, as it is being occupied by the computer.
Now I have a lot of apps, how to put them in order?
All apps successfully installed are listed on the desktop, however, they may not be in the order you want, how to put them in order?
Long press an app icon and then you may move it freely. When it is moved to the screen border, the screen will automatically switch to the next screen.
How to add a screen? Use two fingers to pinch on the desktop to enter screen thumbnail mode. Then you may add or delete screens.
How to delete an app? Long press the app icon you want to delete, drag it on top of the trash box and click OK to delete it.
The second step: let's make your phone different.
A phone without style is nothing remarkable, so let’s make your phone different!
Changing wallpaper: Click Menu button on the desktop, select “Change Wallpaper” to replace the wallpaper. In addition to the existing wallpaper in the phone, thousands of pieces of wallpaper are also available online.
Changing theme: Themes make great changes to your interface style. Click “Theme Manager” on the desktop to select the theme you like. Also, more online themes are available online.
Selecting ringtones and more: click “Settings” on the desktop to set call and notification ringtones. In “Personalization” under “Personal” tab, you may find more options.
The third step: it’s time for some advanced techniques!
Well, you are no longer a beginner now, so let’s learn some advanced techniques.
Adding widgets on the desktop: press the Menu button on the desktop, select "Edit Mode", and then click the icon on the upper right corner to access the interface of “Add Widgets”. Choose your favorite widget on the top, and then drag it to the screen below.
Using folders to manage desktop apps: in the interface of “Add Widgets”, drag [Folder] to the desktop. You may drag multiple apps into folders to classify them. After opening the folder, you may click the edit icon in the upper left corner to rename the folder.
Using toggles panel to improve efficiency: drag the notification panel down from the top, click "Toggles" to go to the toggles panel (It goes to the toggles panel in default of notice.) On the panel are listed the most commonly used toggles, you may click to quickly enable or disable a toggle. Long press on the icon will launch the settings for that icon.
Guest mode: enable the “Guest Mode” toggle in the panel, and your calls and text messages logs will be hidden, and all installed applications cannot be removed. You may have a try when you need to show your phone to guests or children.
Importing contacts or binding accounts: you may use some apps to import a batch of contacts, or bind Google account directly in "Settings"> "Personal"> "Accounts & Sync Settings" to sync contacts at any time.
How to print screens? Press "Menu" key and "Volume Down" key at the same time to print a screen. The printed image is saved in the directory of MIUI in the SD card.
How to copy files from the computer without using the data cable? In case of a Wi-Fi connection, enter “File Manager” on the desktop, select the tab of "Remote Administration" to start the service, and then you will get an address. Enter the given address on the computer, then you may copy files without using a data cable!

I think I might leave cyanogen for this lol
*edit* so tried this out for a couple of hours
The ui is beautiful and the rom overall is smooth, but got a lot of fc from the theme chooser, nofication setting and when making phone calls.

You should. Like I've said before, after trying many many ROM's, I've come to the conclusion that MIUI is EVERYTHING that I want in my phone and there will be no looking back to any other ROM's out there.
OMG OMG OMG official miui..... not a port....
Does the official rom still have the theme engine problem? I didnt see it in the changelog, and it was the only thing keeping me from using the miui ports.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Miui Rocks....it was the first Rom that truly set itself apart from CM roms and the like. It was my dd for a while but updates started coming out that required full rlashing, it became pointless. It seems that they are a lot more stable now....might come bqck and check them out again.
OP incredible job on the detail of your posts. One car certainly tell that you are not just theming and calling it a new tommy....cheers!

does MIUI have a good calendar/agenda app? I can't find one that beats Sense or Go Launcher EX at the moment.
Agenda Widget Plus and Pure Grid Calendar aren't as smooth or as well integrated =/
So beautiful and so tempting but it seems that it will never ever manage to utilize the functionality of the G2's Quick Keys =(

Should be fixed with today's (Friday) build.
With all due respect, what is the benefit of an 'official' MIUI ROM over any of the currently-maintained ports such as OsiMood? It does not seem like we are going to get G2-specific features like Quick Keys or Tab working.
Is the performance any better than these 'unofficial' ports?

This being official, I would assume that they are going to look at the g2 specific features a bit more?
Maybe I'm just being optimistic
Ima give the 3 roms a whirl, finally.
My phone number: Unknown
One issue I've noticed with this as well is that it can't read my phone number from the SIM card. That can cause issues with certain apps that require it (like TikL, for example).
Menu > Settings > System > About Phone > More information > Status
For me, that shows "My phone number: Unknown". And yes, I am sure my phone number is present on the SIM.
Avoid task killers
It is best to avoid task killers such as Advanced Task Killer. Android is designed to automatically pre-load certain applications, even if you don't load them yourself. If it starts to run low on memory, it will smartly unload the oldest running apps automatically.
Manually killing tasks will only mean they get loaded in memory again. Task killers can make the phone slow, laggy, or drain battery life more quickly.
Bookmark a contact on your homescreen
To bookmark a contact on your homescreen, long press on the home screen background and select Shortcuts. Then select Direct dial.
If you call someone regularly this can be useful as you will have a shortcut to them handily placed on your homescreen
Bookmark a web page on your homescreen
To bookmark a website on your homescreen, go into your browser and find the bookmark of the page you want to create a shortcut for.
Then long press on the bookmark and select Add Shortcut to Home.
If you regularly visit certain websites, this can be handy as you will have a shortcut to the site on your homescreen.
Create folders to tidy your Apps
If you find yourself with too many Apps on the homescreen, then you can create folders to organise them.
To start, simply press and hold on an App and drag it over the top of another App. The App should change colour/shape. Then release your finger and the two Apps will be combined into a folder.
You can then drag more Apps into this folder using the same process.
To give your folder a label, simply long press on the folder and you will be able to enter a name.
Double tap for a full stop (period)
While typing emails or notes, you can simply tap the space key twice and the phone will insert a full stop / period
Install new keyboard to improve accuracy
The standard Android keyboard is good, but not great. There are many third party keyboards available which will improve your typing speed and accuracy.
Go to the Android Market and search for 'Keyboard' to see some great alternatives, many of which are more accurate and make typing much easier.
A good one is GoKeyboard.
If you see a warning saying the keyboard will collect all information (including credit cards) just ignore this. This is just a security feature that Android shows for every third-party keyboard that you install.
Accents and special characters
If you want to type non-English letters (eg those with an accent), long-press on the relevant letter. A list of options will appear for you to select.
Access the scientific calculator
To access the scientific calculator, rotate the phone to landscape mode.
The calculator will change to a scientific one
Add email or phone number from text
To add an email or phone number to your contacts from a text message, you can long-press on the email / phone number. Then select Add to contacts
Add widget to the homescreen
To add a widget, go to the homescreen and press the Apps icon (the circle with 6 dots). Then you will see a list of your Apps with the word Apps and Widgets at the top. Press Widgets, then you will be presented with a list of available widgets.
To add a widget, press and hold on it and then position it where you want
Android Easter egg
There is an Easter egg hidden in the Android operating system. To see it, go to your Homescreen, then press Menu - Settings - About phone.
Then tap on the Android version option 5 times and you will get a surprise.
Sometimes it doesn't work, so try a couple of times. By the way don't expect to see an actual Easter Egg. That is just the name given to things hidden inside software or operating systems.
Auto focus the camera
When taking photos or videos, tap the screen where you want to focus on. The phone will automatically adjust the settings to improve the image or video
Bring up more predicted words
If you have word prediction enabled while you are typing, you can long press the middle word that is suggested. This will bring up a menu allowing you to select various other suggested words.
Browse websites in full-screen mode
If you want to browse in full screen mode, without the URL bar at the top of the browser, then you can enable this..
Open the standard browser and press Menu - Settings - Labs. Then put a check mark under Full Screen .
To get access to the browser options (that are now invisible), there is now a neat hidden menu. Slide your finger in from the left or right of the screen. A circular menu will appear with various options.
Capture a still shot while recording video
To capture a still shot while recording a video, simply tap the screen while you are recording.
This will save a still image.
Change keyboards
To change keyboards (if you have additional keyboards installed), you can switch between them by pressing the small keyboard symbol in the top left of your screen. You will need to be in keyboard input mode (i.e. typing something) for this to work.
Note: you need to have more than one keyboard installed for this to work
Change quick response texts
The phone has the ability to send quick response text messages if your phone is ringing but you can't answer it.
To change these, go to your Dialer App - Settings - Quick responses. You can only have 4 of them and you may need to edit existing ones.
Change the backlight screen timeout
To change the backlight screen timeout, go to Settings - Display - Screen. Then choose the screen time out duration.
You can also tell the phone screen to always stay lit when it is plugged in via USB. Go to Settings - Developer Options. Then check Stay Awake.
Change the screen brightness
To change the screen brightness, start from the Homescreen and press Menu - Settings - Display - Brightness.
Then choose the desired brightness setting. You can also select Automatic brightness to let the phone decide for you.
If you have auto-brightness enabled, you can also press, hold and slide the top notification bar left and right. The brightness will increase and decrease accordingly.
Check phone status and battery usage
To find out information about Signal Strength, Network Information, Remaining Battery Time and Battery Usage (by Application), go to your Homescreen - Menu - Settings - About Phone.
Check the firmware version
To check your firmware version, start from the Homescreen and press Menu - Settings - About Phone- software version
This should list your Android version, Build number and Model Number.
Copy files between your phone and PC using WiFi
To copy files between your phone and PC, go to the Android Play Market and download an app called AirDroid.
This is an extremely useful App that connects your phone to your PC wirelessly, allowing you to move files and many, many other things.
Copying iTunes songs to Android
If you have decided to ditch your iPhone in favour of Android, then there is a simple way to take your iTunes music, playlists and album art with you.
Simply go the Android Marketplace and download a Free App called Easy Phone Tunes. You will also need the computer version of the software, so go to http://easyphonetunes.com and download it from there.
Then, when that is done, turn your phone into a USB storage device (this will vary from device to device, but instructions are on the website).
Once your phone is connected to your computer, open the computer version of the software and select your device from the Easy Phone Tunes list. Then follow the instructions to Sync your media
Create folders in your Quick Launch bar
If you have used up all of your Quick Launch spaces, then there is a trick.
Once it is full, press and drag an App from the homescreen and move it over the top of an App in the Quick Launch area. Then release your finger. This will create a folder containing the original App plus the new one. This is a great way to have access to regularly used App
Create shortcut to websites on your home screen
To create a shortcut to a website on your homescreen, go to your browser bookmarks.
Then long press on a site and select Add shortcut to Home
Customise your favourites tray
At the bottom of each homescreen is your favourites tray, which consists of 5 icons. You can customise it by adding icons to the tray. If it's full however, you will first need to remove some.
To remove an icon, simply press and hold an icon. Then drag it to your desktop.
Then to add a new one, simply drag an icon from your homescreen to the favourites tray.
Enable / disable vibrate / haptic feedback when you type
To disable / enable vibrate (also called haptic feedback) when you type or press the screen, go to Settings - Language & input - Settings.
Then uncheck Vibrate on keypress.
Enable sideload of Apps
If you want to install Apps outside of the Android Market (called sideloading), then go to Settings - Security - Unknown sources.
Note: use at your own risk.
Help, I have forgotten my unlock pattern
If you have forgotten your custom unlock pattern, then don't panic.
After 5 unsuccessful tries a button should appear saying 'Forgot pattern'. Press this and you will be asked to enter your Gmail username/password.
The phone will then ask for a new unlock pattern. If you don't have a Gmail account, then you might have to either call your carrier or factory reset your phone.
Hide folders or files
If you want to hide folders or files from being index or displayed, simple put a . (full stop / period) before the file or folder name.
Make volume / music louder
WARNING: Making your volume or music louder can damage your hearing.
Most phones have their volumes limited by local laws to protect our hearing. There is a way to boost your volume however. Go to the Android Market and download an App called Volume+ (Sound Boost). There is also a free version called Volume+ Free.
You will need to root your phone for this App to work.
Make your phone run faster
Here are the top 5 tips to make your phone run faster:
1) Use only essential widgets on your homescreen - each widget consumes memory and processing power which can slow your down your phone.
2) Uninstall apps that you don't use - after awhile your phone can get cluttered as some Apps are designed to always run in the background. If you rarely use an App, then uninstall it to free up memory and CPU resource.
3) Install Apps to your phone memory - if you have an SDCard, always install Apps to the phone memory, which can be accessed faster. If you have Apps on the SDCard, then move them back to the phone memory with an App called Move2SD available from the Play Market.
4) Use Static rather than Live wallpapers - Live wallpapers consume processing power and memory. Unless you really must have them, uninstall them.
5) Kill tasks occasionally - Some Apps will run in the background indefinitely unless you kill them. Most of them won't cause a problem, but it pays to check your running tasks from time to time. Hold down your Home key and check the Task Manager.
One last thing: Don't use Task Killers. Android manages tasks very well and Task Killers just make your phone unstable and can slow it down further
note this guide is mainy to help the people who didnt recieved a manual instructions booklet along with their phone like my country(INDIA)
Thanks.

Bookmark a contact on your homescreen

paarthdesai, you've listed good things but this thing slows down the phone (at least my One V). When I had put 4 contacts in a folder and kept it on the homescreen and when I tried to use speed dial, it was even slower. When I touched the bookmarked contact, the phone got stuck (not completely, I could always use the Home capitative touch button)(But yes, this happened everytime). And then, the 'Dialer' app never worked. After about 10-15 seconds, the conatact was automatically called. Now tell me this is Speed Dail or Slow Dial?
And Hey even I'm from India but I got the Manual

The One V actually shipped with 4.0.3, and the easter egg has been present in stock ICS since the very beginning. It was never included on HTC ROMs though - your guide (which you copied and pasted off another website) was obviously written from the perspective of stock Android ICS.
RE options for live wallpapers, the menu list you've shown is only available on that custom ROM. Or rather, it is the modified stock launcher that provides that option. If you use something like Apex Launcher, you can pick a live wallpaper by hold pressing on an empty space. If you want to use the stock launcher though, there is a solution. A lot of live wallpapers will automatically bring you to the selection screen for them when you open their icon. One such wallpaper:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fishnoodle.spacescapewallpaper_free
So you can definitely get live wallpapers on a stock ROM. It's just a limitation of the Sense launcher. They run pretty well too.
1st of all if u think it's copied provide a link to prove it
and pin point
and my base is 2.0.8
soo it is available in that base
new thing added along with hd media sync and display gestures

LOL I know but I explore a lot but still didn't find something I looking for.
So I asking if someone can recommend me about things to do
There are 2 different icon packs. The ones on the first screen look like "Twint" icons. The second in not so sure about.
As posted above, Nova Launcher is a great one though there are dozens to chose from. I have been using Nova for years and the customizations are endless.
To place icons on your home screen, go to the app drawer and long press the ones you want and they will carry over to your default home screen. Once they are there you can long press them again and drag them into one another to make them appear in folders. You can add as many as you like as there is no limit to the number of icons you can place in each folder. If you want to name the folder simply long press them again and choose "edit" from the pop up menu and type a name. If you want to customize the way the folder appears (like stacked or fanned) click the menu button on your phone and select "Nova Settings", then "Folder" and choose one you like. To set Nova as your default launcher, press the Home button on your phone them select "Nova" and "Always" and it becomes your default launcher. To add widgets (like a clock) to the home screen, long press the actual desktop (not the icons themselves) and select "widgets"at the bottom and (just like adding icons to the homescreen) hold them down and they will show up on your default homepage.
There are dozens of threads to learn from, just Google how to customize Nova launcher and look for one from XDA. And once you learn there are threads to show off your work where you can post screenshots like the one I made here. Have fun and enjoy!

Yeah it's a pretty similar icon pack. Anyway, what that screenshot shows is called an app bar, it's not a folder. I don't use Smart Launcher, been with Nova Prime for a long time so know my way around it pretty well. Here's some shots of some of the folder layouts you can use with Nova though it looks like you're headed in a different direction now. If you're gonna use Smart Launcher it's gonna have to be trial by fire cuz i I'm not familiar with it. But to your initial question about folders see here:

First of all thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
Your theme for nova looks great but I want to organize folder somehow similar like I show you how can I do something like that?
You're welcome. And you will have to find a launcher or program to support that sty type of layout.
