[Q] Help Phone stuck in Boot Loop! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, Phone is rooted using the lastest from Unrevoked. Installed the mod so clockwork would work with the slcd screens. Downloaded Incredible revolution theme off of rom manager applied it and now my phone is stuck in a boot loop. I tried clearing all data/factory reset and that didn't do much. I made a nandroid backup but whenever I go to restore it all it says is Checking MD5 sums Clockwork Recovery is V 2.5.0.5 Please help?!? I have a copy of the nandroid backup on my computer but I'm a noob when it comes to installing roms and messing around with clockwork please help!

Checking MD5 sums can take a couple minutes, up to 5-10 minutes. Try restoring your nandroid backup again.

What ROM are you using?
Are you running Virtuous' ROM? That's what that theme is for, if you flash it over any other ROM you very well can cause issues.
Make sure you don't rename your backups, or use spaces in the name. Sometimes the MD5 thing can take time, as stated above.

restoring takes twice as long as say backing up roms, or wiping and flashing roms. I've said this many times...none of this stuff your doing to your phone is instantaneous, it takes time. If youre unsure about something wait....and wait some more.

How do you do a nandroid backup with the Desire?

I have a rooted desire and never really tried restoring a backup and when I finally did I came across this error message:
No SD ext found. skipping backup of SD EXT
Generating MD5 sum
error while checking md5 sum!
chcking md5 sum....
MD5 mismatch!
My SD card has no partition whatsoever and I'm using fake flash by paul. My old phone was a N1 and I had no problem whatsoever doing this before. Is making a backup and restoring in the Desire an entirely different process?
Also how do you automatically backup apps in the Market? Meaning if I switch roms and just logged into my Google account the market would automatically "restore" my old apps. I used to be able to do this once in a while with my old N1 but I couldn't do it consistently. With my Desire I can't do it at all.
Thanks
It will give that error if you have no ext partition on your sd card. If you're not using apps 2 sd then you need not worry about it.
Other than that, try the latest clockwork recovery (2.0.1.4) and try a nandroid backup and restore.

Nandroid backup seems to work and I do get to see the file but when I try to restore it fails! Do I need to make an extension for it to work?
What about restoring apps from the marketplace via the internet? Like I said, I've done it a few times with my N1 wherein it automatically restores everything once I log in my Google account.
Thanks
Try creating an ext partition, convert ext2 to ext3. If it fails again, try backing up and restoring using the Nand using the latest Clockwork Recovery (2.0.0.7).
Your apps are linked to your Google account so when you sign in, they should be available for manual download.
You could also backup and restore your apps and data to your sd card using Titanium backup or MyBackup Pro (available from the Marketplace).

Apps are indeed linked but how do they become restored automatically? Like I said, I've done it before on my N1 with "applications restored" showing up on the notification bar.
Where do I get the latest clockwork recovery? Tried looking at the forums and came up empty. I just followed Paul's guide for rooting. Still don't understand why I can't restore from a nandroid.
thanks
I am not aware of any method to restore apps automatically from the Marketplace, i do it manually unless using a backup and restore app.
Try reading the fake flash thread on MoDaCo as i remember people had reported the same issue you are experiencing. What version of fake flash are you currently using?
You will find the Clockwork Recovery as an option in the ROM Manager app, which you can download from the Marketplace.

The easiest method is to use unreEVOked (link).
The earlier version of unreEVOked installed a much earlier version of clockwork recovery, and I found that the nandroid backup didn't work properly - it would seem to backup (albeit too quickly), but you couldn't restore due to the MD5 problem. I think it didn't actually ever complete the backup and generate the MD5s.
Version 2 hopefully fixes that problem - certainly Nandroid backups take a lot longer!
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys.
Will look into unrevoked and try to get it to work. I'll also try to update my fake flash. I have been using the very first version when it came out and never really updated it lol
Updated my fake flash and it worked! Thanks guys!
Didn't know that the clockwork recovery was embedded into fake flash. I thought it was just an enabler or something.
Thanks again!
If you use unrEVOked you don't need Fake Flash, or vice versa.

Dave
Have still yet to try unrevoked, what exactly does it do when I plug it into my desire? Does it make me run Amon Ra's N1 recovery image? No more screen with the red triangle?

No problem bud, glad it worked out for you
When you enter Recovery, it loads the recovery image straight away, so you get a permanent custom recovery image when you hold power + home.
Will try it out thanks again! Currently experimenting with the Rom manager application. It's pretty neat and u can update the recovery image instantly. I take it as something like an app inside ur phone? Always there in the background waiting to be used?
Hi, is anyone else having the problem that ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.1 just hangs after "Backing up system..." when trying to do a Nandroid backup?
Backup worked fine with 2.0.x.x (the one that came with Unrevoked3), but now I can't seem to complete a backup. Haven't even tried restoring yet...
Trying to run a ROM backup using ROM Manager and Nandriod Backup but both go to a screen with a red triangle
Phone is rooted and running Defrost
I want to update to defrost 6.1
Any other way of backing up the ROM ?
Thanks

Boot in to recovery manually and back up or clear the download cache in rom manager and reflash clockworkmod. If it still fails try to disable signature verification in recovery (under install zip form sd)
I can't get to recovery though thats the problem.
How do you reflash clockworkmod ? Through ROM Manager ?
yes, first option when you open rom manager
Cashe cleared, then I tried to run the update ROM option selected back up and clear data etc.
Went straight to a red triangle, will now try and see about changing this clockworkmod
Thanks.
Ran the re-flash clockwork option, first one on the list, still gets the red triangle of noness.

[Q] Nandroid recovery error.

Hello all, I have recently had problems restoring my nandroid backups.
I think it's because of Clockwork, but I'm not sure.
I get this message after checking for MD5 sums..
error while flashing boot image! /tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/cloclworkmod/recovery.log please open ROM manager to report the issue.
Any ideas on how I can use my nandroid back ups? I want to go back to FreshEvo for a while.
Were you using clockwork when you created the backups? I've had problems when I've made a backup under one recovery, then updated the recovery, then couldnt get my backups to work.
For some backups yes, but not the one I'm trying to go back to.
I tried restoring with nandroid and clockwork and both give me the same error.
I am using amon-ra so this might not help you.
I was not able to restore even after turning off the phone. After several tries I removed the battery and I was able to restore. Just turning it off did not do the trick. Really odd.

[Q] Backup Issues

So tonight I was trying to show off my phone to a friend that didn't understand the concept of rooting. I made a nandroid of my current rom, so I could flash a past nandroid. As I started flashing, it was able to flash the boot and the system, but it could not flash the data for some odd reason. I am using clockwork mod 2.5.0.7, and have been using it before, but have never ran into this problem. I even tried flashing the nandroid that I had made tonight, but the same problem occurred. Any ideas?
Ps. My roms were MIUI 1.8.5(nandroid tonight) and Synergy RC 1(past nandroid).

It was at 60%. All I've read is that 30% is the minimum you can flash stuff at so the phone won't die.
Did you have ample space on your sd card when the backup was made? Cuz if not that portion could have been corrupted and not flashing.
+1 for a corrupted nand. Was there any transfers of the nand between pc and phone? Sometimes they can get corrupted like that. Also I suggest using amon ra 2.3 for recovery.

I have plenty of space on my sdcard (1.74 GB), and I had not messed with it on my computer. After trying the synergy backup and it not working, I tried to restore the backup I had just made that night, and it came up with the same problem. And I switched to Amon a few months back, but it is not as convenient as Clockwork to make nand backups. I have been contemplating switching to Amon, but the convenience of Clockwork is overwhelming with rom manager.

Need Help. Important...very important

Alright, so I have clockwork 3.0.0.5 and I backed up my system before flashing a new Rom. Well I need a text message out of that back up. The system was working fine which is why I backed it up. I backed up using clockwork. Now I try to flash back to get a picture of this Text and the freaking back up wont load. it just hangs on the boot animation. Has been there for over an hour now. I don't care how I get it, but I need to get this text message. Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried pulling the battery and wiping caches then trying to boot up?
You could wipe everything and try to restore again.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Yeah. I have done everything that I can think of.
Wipe date, wipe cache, wip dalvik, reset security. Then reload the back-up
nothing
wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. then reload nothing
Wipe cache, reload. Reboot nothing.
I was using the Shooter Rom with the red fang remxed theme. It was slow as hell but worked. Always booted. I backed it up, loaded another rom, and now I cannot get the shooter to reload.
I hear that you can pull these thigns with the SDK. I will try anything. I need to get it.
I know it's after the fact, but this is why most of us shun CWM and use Amon Ra
He's got a point.
Can you browse the SD card, get into the backup and find the appropriate files? IDK offhand *where* the text history would be in there, but I'm sure one of these gurus knows. I'd guess it would be a matter of finding that file, flashing to a working rom, then dumping the file over top.
Mind you...this is just an educated guess.
Well the only people I know locally who flash use CWM. thats why I chose it over Amon. Does it make a huge difference? My stock rom back-up which does work and has been moved to three safe locations, was done in CWM.
How would I move the files over? I tried using a thread I found earlier and "Droid Explorer" but it didn't seem to work to well and just cleared my texts. So I tried to copy some .IMG files around and totally hosed my working back-up. Not the one with the Texts, the one I was booting from.
Yo no se....good luck with that man =/

Yea people use CWM because thats what comes with rooting but if you actually read a little through these threads and talk to anyone who has had there phone rooted over a year they will let you know Amon is the way to go.... Very few issues do you see in the forums for AmonRa - IMO
I would back up to a good workable rom then flash AmonRa and start into your new world...Unfortunately you can not recover a CWM backup in AmonRa
Since your backups are with clockwork, you would need to make a whole new set of backups using Amon Ra. However we can get you where you need to be with clockwork. First the issue with Clockwork is, you cannot wipe boot without a script. Wiping boot is manditory for restoring any backup, otherwise as you have seen the phone won't boot. So download the attached file, place it on the root of your SDCARD, then boot to recovery, flash the file like you would flash a new ROM. Then without rebooting the phone restore your backup. This should get you back up and going.
Thank you!
I'm trying it right now. After I finish rebuilding and backing up this system.
Alright so as I tried to run that Superwipe.zip, I get an error tell me that Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5 I have to switch to edify scripting. Whats that mean?

Look for calkulins format all. It's not as indepth as superwipe but it should work with the latest version of cwm.

Calkulin's is also amend-scripted, I thought VR was edify though. I know that there's an edify wipe script, but not sure what it is.

What rom is the backup of. Try to wipe everything, restore the backup, wipe cache and dalvic cache, then flash a compatible kernel. See if it boots then.

[Q] Restoring Nandroid backups

Hi,
I'm having some problems flashing Google App and A2SD+ scripts on my CMv7 ROM. After flashing the scripts, the phone keeps hanging on the bootup screen, and I have to wipe my phone and reflash CM before it boots up again, which makes me lose all my configuration settings and app installations.
I'd like to know, if I do a Nandroid backup with CWM Recovery after I setup my phone to my liking and something goes wrong when applying a script, will restoring the Nandroid backup bring my phone back to the state right before script application?
Thanks.

Yes. Restoring a nandroid returns your phone to the exact state it is when the nandroid is made.
