I wondered if it is possible to directly push out a notification from your phone to The ms push notification server which on its turn pushes the notification to a friends device?
Without a webserver inbetween, just the ms notification server. I was thinking if this is possible it would create the possibility to program an instant messager sms alternative, where you can create à list of contacts with their direct dive id to push the messages to.
Of course it would be Nice if it could check all your contacts in your contactlist for having a wp7 device (possible trough contacts.live.com or so, but this will probably not. Be possible yet). alternative Will be to send an email with contact name and dive id from inside the program.
Just brainstorming here and wondering, i font have à device yet, its on its way.
Thanks! And sorry for THE weird english sometimes, have dutch auto correct and did not foundation à way to switch it of here.
Push notifications do work in the way that you would like (just an HTTP request), but the issue is that notifications aren't retrievable by an application unless it is running. This means that when you get a toast, and select it, the app won't know about that message at all.
Something like this just isn't viable without some intermediate party. Maybe that'll change someday.
Ah yeah i researched à bit more and programmed Some stuff. It does not work unfortunately. Thanks à alluvium would involve at least à webservice and database, and copying all THE contact data from THE people hub is also not possible so an automated service which identifies who has THE app of your friendster Will not really work either. Too bad would be à very welcome app.

Hello,
I'm using EVC++ to create an application and I would like to be informed when a new mail is arrived in the Message Store.
There are some MAPI function to do that (Advise, OnNotify, AdviseSink etc...) but I need some explanations. For example NEWMAIL_NOTIFICATION is not sent by CEMAPI, so how can I know when a new mail is arrived?!!! And first of all, Advise doesn't work. I think I have not allocated the advise sink object. How can I do that?
Thank you for your help or even a sample code for my inspiration!!
Gizmo
You will never get the notification sink to work since only the process which causes the event will be notified.
I use a special trick: Just open the mail database with CeOpenDatabaseEx(...) and register for DB_* events. Then you will receive an event everytime something in the mail db changes...
I have two small questions. Hopefully they are eay to answer though I have had no luck so far finding if the answers are here.
1) In the mail / sms app the left soft key is "delete", can this be changed to "new" as it was in wm5 ?
2) In the nice new HTML email mode I get my emails fine, but the images don't download in the mail. Is it possible to stop each mail promopting and for it just to happen ?
May not be ROM specific but just in case, I am using Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31.
Thanks for reading
Dave
hi Dave, firstly, no you cannot change the button back. Well not that i know of. Annoying.
Secondly, i assume you are connecting to an msexchange 2007 server so that you are actually viewing the mail in html, a lot of people made the mistake of assuming that wm6 would give them html email through their existing ex2003 server.
I am guessing though that the images in the emails are being seen as attachments and are therefore not downloaded until you say so. Maybe you should tick the box to download attachments automatically and limit the size of them to something sensible. Probly dont want to try this unless you have a decent data plan.
Hi,
Thats a shame. I keep deleteing my message when trying to send new ones !
Actually I am not using any server for my mail. I am collecting directly from my ISP using pop3. The message contains a little notification bar just like IE would saying that I should click it download the images.
Someone I know who has this ROM said that there was a reg key i could change and it would do it all automatically.
Cheers for the response.
Hi dmj1973,
I have done quite a bit of Google research on the pocket Outlook issue of not automatically downloading pictures, and there doesn't appear to be a solution. I myself have switched to qmail and no longer have that problem.
Hi There!
I'm new on this page. Joined here because i have special question and my search on the web didn't lead to any solution.
I got the Samsung i900v omnia with windows mobile 6.1 and would like to improve the privacy concearning sms / email inbox fotos or the list of my recent calls.
The phone has a general password which switches on after a while. But that locks the whole thing. For example I might want my girlfriend to be able to use my omnia for a call or to check something on the web, but she shouldn't have access to all of my data.
I've tested skb mobile safety suite 2.02. but its all to complicated, it seems they want to put a whole new operating system over my phone.
i would be satisfied if the normal password check would occur if certain funktions are activated - which i could select upfront.
If anyone has a solution, i would be very happy. Right now my omnia hasn't been much fun to me yet.
Thx & Cheers
Roman
When linked to my Exchange server. It's strange though, since my Htc Hero has no issues whatsoever with this. I can begin to type any name in the To: field and it start suggesting receivers. Now with the Desire, I get no name completion/suggestions whatsoever. It does however work in the recipient fields in for example the SMS application.
Anybody else experience this?
Running 2.1-update1 as is.
Thanks in advance.
Hi jivebunny,
Mine suggests names just fine (from history usage or from my contacts). What is does not do is to suggest names from the full corporate directory (this could take a lot of network/time if you have a big corporate directory). If you want to do that, click the little person icon next to the "to:" list and you can search your corporate directory.
John
Hi John,
Thanks for the reply, this is what I also found, yet how do you control these settings? I've synced my contacts onto the phone through activesync (or does it not work like that anymore?), yet it will suggest nothing when it comes to emails. If I indeed press the little contactperson I get corporate contacts as base, and clicking that again leads to device contacts. Is there a way to change the default setting for that?
I'd rather it not search through the corporate list, since it's big and slow indeed.
I searched and tried a lot of things, but no option found for this.
Thanks again!
I've spent a fair chunk of time looking for a resolution to this problem here and all over the web but have failed. So, here goes...
When someone sends out a (Outlook) meeting cancellation request, it comes via email but there are no options presented that would allow removal of the meeting from my calendar. On the contrary, when I get a new meeting request, I am able to respond with an accept, decline, etc. Am I missing something?
you're not missing anything... same happens to me on my WP7 phone as well as my Android device. my workaround is to find the meeting on my calendar and manually delete it.
Wow, that sounds ridiculous! I am coming from a Win Mobile 6 device and do not recall ever having such an issue... Lets hope the next update takes care of this
Deleting Attendee(s) / Adding ad-hoc email address
Also, under WM6.x I was able to remove an attendee from a calendar entry. I cannot see any function for this. Highly annoying because if I accidentally pick the wrong contact then I have to start the meeting creation over again. Breaking the meeting creation process into two parts (meeting, then attendee association) is a partial solution but still inefficient. Especially if you are adding a lot of attendees and goof up the last one.
Oh, and not being able to add an ad-hoc email address in the attendee section is irritating. Having to create the address in your contacts/people hub first is annoying and I might not want them in there permanently.
Scratch that last moan about not being able to delete an attendee - it's hidden behind the WP7 "press and hold' trick.
