Looking for froyo samsung keyboard/input apk - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for the samsung keyboard that is a new option in froyo. I went back to 2.1 and would like to mess around with it. I tried poking around in the update zip for froyo and can't seem to locate it yet. All my luck it won't work.

Your not looking very hard. Its everywhere. Just do search in the Android apps section and you will find it. A Google search will also lead you straight to it. Or just look in the dev section, its right there!

I don't think it'll work with 2.1.

[Q] Install stock apps from one phone to another?

Hey all...thanks for looking and possibly answering. Heres my question. The one and only thing I do not like about my Evo is the contacts app. and the dialer. I came over from the iphone and the best thing on it was the combination of the dialer and the contacts, call log and favorites all within one application. I was at best buy and noticed that on a Samsung fascinate the STOCK contacts app is exactly what I have been missing. I found a couple stock apk files for a samsung moment and fascinate from another forum and tried to install on my evo and they would not install. So..guess what my question is...why wont they install? Are they locked so you cant install on different phones? If yes...is there a way around this. Or simply...how do I get the stock contacts apk from a samsung to my Htc evo?
My Evo is rooted
PS...I have spent countless hours searching for this type of contacts app that has everything I want in the market..it does not exist, so please please dont reply look in the market for something similar. I am looking to put this exact stock samsung app on my Evo.
Thanks everyone!
Most of the time these "stock" apps are odexed files, I would suggest getting the system.img file from the phone/rom that has the dialer app you want and extract the odex file AND the apk file for the dialer then run it through an apk deodex script(I'm on a MacBook), then try to install it. Not promising this will work, but give it a shot and if it doesn't pan out politely ask a dev if they can port it, XDA is full of helpful and willing devs, as long as you aren't an ass about it like some people are, let me know if this helps!

+1..... I'd like to see this ported over. I had a Samsung Captivate and I miss my contacts app much better than what I have on Evo.

Anyone had luck on this? I just upgraded to s5 from s2 and want the stock memo widget from s2 installed onto the s5 as the s5 widget can't go smaller than 4x1.
You might have better luck asking in the Samsung forums. The most recent post prior to yours was over three years ago and it doesn't seem that anyone has an answer, that, and the OP was looking for a way to use an app from a non-HTC device on a HTC phone.

[Q] Looking for overall FAQ or multiple ones

I am a noob, but I am starting to REALLY enjoy modding my phone. All I have done so far is root and put syndicate/genocide on, and now have a thread open for changing icons directly without theme pack.
I would like to learn more though, and really get a better understanding on what I am doing and some terms.
For example, if you look for a definition in google (at least for me I could not find any) for EC05, it really does not give you one. It tells you what the letter and numbers mean, but what is EC05 really, why cant you put certain ROMs on the epic that others use, etc.
The EPIC wiki has definitions for ROM, Odin, etc, but is there anything out there that talks about other things (EC05, CM7, why the epic can't use the Muiu, maybe how the android software works from apk files to this framework file I keep reading about but no nothing about).
So I am looking for an overall faq or wiki, something to really help me get going on the android software. Maybe a book?
Or is the info just scattered and I need to keep searching?
First thing is ROMs and Kernels are VERY Hardware specific. So since no 2 different phone models have exactly the same hardware the ROMs from one to the other are incompatible. EC05 is just a date code for the release of firmware and a specific modem. However different modems can be used on the firmware. Probably not the best way to label it then. As for one place to go to know all things Android including hardware...no idea. I don't know what docs are included with the sdk developer's package for Android but that may be one place to look. In the Themes forum, Dreamsforgotten has put together a nice how to on how to theme.

Most of those questions can be answered if you send the right pm to the right person. And ec05 like kennyglass said is a build number, other devices have ec05 versions while being completely different then ours.
Apk's related to framwork files I haven't a clue, just know that if you don't have the right framework (say touchwiz launcher on cm7) it will force close.
While we have a wiki, its outdated.
Also, like kennyglass said, kernels are very device specific. While you may pull off booting a kernel from a VERY similar device, (like our original nexus s ports) almost everything will be broken.
Guys, thanks for replying, I found what I was looking for (just took one more google search).
Thanks to both you guys though!
No problem, there is a great bunch of us here that love to help.

New Black Google search app

So yes. I understand there is a thread about this already here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574515
I just wanted to let ya'll know that are still running the tabletUI like myself, and have been having issues with google search force closing. This will fix it. Not sure if it's needed but i had uninstalled googlequicksearch.apk from /system/apps before i even found this. So you may have to uninstall it, maybe not. The stock google search isn't compatible with tabletUI anyhow (wtf google?)
But whatever, in any case, this one works! And it's free

Dude You Rock! I didn't even think about looking for something like this! I was running C9 A3 and loved it except not being able to use GSearch but when upgraded to C9 A4 tablet wouldn't work and I love the setting's and layout of stuff. Frustrated myself yesterday to no end with trying to get a table mod and did not like any of the conventional rom's w/tablet mod so went back to C9 A4 and just said oh well.
Except this morning I thought why not jump backwards to C9 A3 because I would rather have tablet mod and was just going to accept the fact GSearch wasn't working when voila I found this post!
Didn't have to uninstall anything.
Thanks for sharing and allowing me to continue to just Rock this Phone.
I consider it the Bugatti of phones!
No problem. Glad it helped somebody

programming (dialer) codes not working

Hello, I've searched but cant seem to find the answer to this question anywhere so I'm hoping someone might know the answer here. Im running basically stock but rooted ICS ff18. I used a app called no bloat that's a apk freezer to lean down some of the sprint bloat and what not. I used a list from here and also looked at other custom rom's on what apk's could be safely frozen removed ect.. Today when I went to try and use a programming code from the dial pad it wouldn't work no error or anything it would just go blank. So my question is does anyone know what apk I might have frozen to prevent dialer codes from working?
I went through them all but don't see anything that looks like it might have anything to do with that. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it and hopefully this is in the right forum. Thanks all
You're prolly missing one of the system apks that opens it. I can't remember what its called, maybe hiddenmenu, but ive had the same thing happen to me

[Q] slide zoom help

Ive decided to move up to the world to 4.1.2.
Man there are some great roms.
Question, I know most hate it but hate if you must, I'll duck.
In the roms I ve looked at (I'll keep nameless, great roms just don't want them to think I am dissing their work), I have seen the disable edge zoom but never could get it to zoom by edge swipe to begin with. Am I missing something? I am a sicko I guess but I loved that feature. How do I get it to work? Is it totally disabled /removed or is there a download I can get to make it work? Been looking hard for an answer.
I think it was removed/disabled by sammy. Look in the browser settings to see if the option is there. If not you will probably need a modded version.
You could try swapping it for the 4.1.1 browser, but no guarantee it'll work.

Your right doc, it didn't work. Made a browser TIBU in 4.1.1. Installed a 4.1.2 rom tried to both restore over new one and delete new one and restore old one. Neither worked. Guess I'll have to keep looking for a 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 that has it installed and actively working.

Slide / Edge Zoom Fix To Make Work
Attn Mods:
If this is in the wrong place or needs to be moved, please do as needed.
This is no my work nor do I take credit for it. scruffy4386 is the one who posted it in the sprint S3 section.
I have been looking everywhere for an answer. I finally found a fix, (for me anyway) that has my edge zoom back again. I am running 4.1.2 JB Stockorama Rom. It appears Samsung put this feature quietly in and removed it quietly so no one seems to be able to help or knows anything about it. You can read about it in the below link.
This was found in the sprint S3 section and I was so desperate for my edge zoom back that I decided to try it.
I cannot confirm that it will work for everyone but it worked for me.
See post Number 11, top of this page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43535000#post43535000
Please read as it explains a few things.
It will direct you to the download you need here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253747&highlight=edge+zoom
here is a flashable zip
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ae210csih4j1xn3
I used the zip file and flashed it with TWRP.
UPDATE: I fond that this stops wifi calling from working, there may also be an issue with wifi hotspot but cannot test to confirm.
If you don't need wifi calling you can accept the loss of that for the edge zoom capability.
Good Luck and hope this helps someone else.
