CM7 is bound to begin development soon enough, but the HDPI devices are more likely to get it first, especially the vibrant, since the only 2.3 phone is the Nexus S, which is more or less the same hardware as the vibrant and captivate. We, along with other MDPI deviceholders will most likely be waiting for an MDPI port, god knows how long that'll take.
But, I really don't know too much on the situation, don't want to be a pessimist. Google MAY have included MDPI-drawables in the source code, who knows. We could be in for a surprise. Either way someone, most likely someone with CM will get drivers working for the slide, since those aren't included natively like the G1's drivers were in the Froyo code.
Like I said, who knows, just my best guess
Cm 7 will not start until the aosp is released not the sdk because that just causes instability. Or they may use the nexus version if its released first it has been dive in the past but don't expect anything soon unlike with the evo and the other phones we don't gave a huge dev community with this device. It does have mdpi images though because I think the hero has a port which is mdpi

Hi All,
Im a bit of a noob with Android (had TP2 with WinMo - NRGz28 ROMs)... anyway.. I've just read about the port from Desire Z to HD2.. does anyone know if it will be possible to port the Desizre Z rom to MT3G Slide (as their similar phones).. ? I was thinking of selling my slide and getting the DesireZ but may hold off if theres a possibility of a rom port..
Thanks
Previously - TP2 - NRGz28 Roms
Now - MT3G Slide Rooted..
T-Mobile UK..
Thats sounds like a good idea
I think that won't be easy, desire z is a wvga device. It will need tremendous amount of work to get it fit to hvga screen.

I second that. It won't be worth the trouble in my opinion.

They have revealed a source code of G2's Froyo kernel:
http://androidspin.com/2010/10/14/htc-desire-z-source-code-released/
http://androidspin.com/2010/10/14/t-mobile-g2-source-code-quietly-released-by-htc/
I am a noob to these forums and this seemed the best place to ask considering it is a Q&A forum. Considering the G2 is a stock android device how hard would it be to make a stock gingerbread ROM for it? Are any devs out there working on it? Is teamdouche working on CM v7 based on 2.3? I have been looking around for any inclination of this but have seen none whilst other devices get gingerbread ported over/compiled for them. Just want to know the status (or hopefully an ETA) on a Gingerbread ROM for the G2. If I posted this in the wrong place or this has been posted before my apologies.

I don't know if it's out yet, mang... but I'm sure that once it is, it'll be a hot commodity. The modding community is absolutely amazing and I think they seriously need to be hired by some of the mobile companies out there. Their work is fantastic.
well nobody can make a rom or anything until the source code is released...and that hasnt happend yet. as soon as the nexus s comes out (which is this week) then the source code will be extracted from gingerbread and itll be able to be used. right now we just had a SDK file, and that really isnt used for anything but looks. mainly used for themes and such.
Then why does the EVO have a full working ROM for gingerbread? I believe the DESIRE and the HD2 also have it going.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There isn't a working gingerbread ROM for the EVO, it's just FroYo with some parts ripped from 2.3. Gingerbread will be released in a couple of days along with the Nexus S, after which the AOSP will be ported to existing devices - but it'll still be a few days, if not weeks until something stable comes out.
I wouldn't hold my breath for it.
My apologies for my ignorance. I thought they were actual 2.3 builds considering the XDA posted list says "devices running gingerbread". So absolutly nothing can happen with gingerbread until a device with gingerbread (nexus S) comes out?

Cyanogen will not port it to the G2until 2.3 is released for the G2.

Not a problem, you were just asking
All we have running Gingerbread right now is the android emulator, from which we can pull apk's and libs, but most of them need tweaking to get them to work on FroYo. Plus I don't know if the market works on Gingerbread.

Is that an actual statement from teamdouche/cyanogen or just from studying release behavior in the past? When you say release you mean T-mo pushes it as an OTA correct, I know someone on here will "release" 2.3 long before T-mo stamps it for approval.

So at the moment there is no actual gingerbread (save for the reveiw models floating around phonedog, mobileburn, etc are unboxing) out just froyo with the modified characteristics of gingerbread? Pardon the question if it seems silly, most of the comment went over my head.

I'll bet we have a ported ROM before New Years, usually a huge release like this gets all the attention of the devs. Especially since with perm-root, s-off and several stable 2.2 ROMs, the devs don't have all that much to work on atm.
Team Villain were working on one, but it became clear that there was going to be no way to make Audio work until AOSP is out so its on hold until then.
and without audio a phone is useless, no ringing, no sound in calls, no music etc etc

Definatley looking forward to it when Villain gets their hands on the source code. I bet T-mo's is going to be ladened with the same bloatware that their 2.2 install on the G2 had.

Well atleast we have the themes for now, that will hold me over for a couple weeks but not to impressed by the nexus s enough to shell out $520 I might just buy vibrant when functional gingerbread port is out allot cheaper and almost same phone well close anyway.

Honestly I would wait if your shelling out any money for anything samsung just placed a MASSIVE order for tegra 2's today which hints at dualcore phones sometime in q1 or Q2 next year hopefully. Wait for the qualcomm dualcore and nvidia dualcore wars to begin.

Highly doubt that's true. I came from a CDMA Hero running CM6 RC1 (Froyo) and as most of us know, the lower end devices (such as the Hero), never got an official 2.2, yet there was a fully functional, highly stable CM6 out for it.
Which ran magnificently BTW.
Ah yeah, those seem to be more like proof of concept. Once a retail version of handsets start coming out with Gingerbread, as well as the source code, I imagine we'll start seeing custom ROMs based off it.

Gingerbread doesn't seem to be very promising though, what's with all this hype around it?? The update seems pretty piss poor to be honest. Nothing much.
Any chance of sense 3.0 being ported over to the slide? I've read that rmk40 got it to work when HTC said it couldn't happen. There are several phones on XDA using his port and I wanted to ask if we'll see it on the slide.
Depends. If it had hardware requirements, chances are we are out of luck. If its simply an issue of hdpi to mdpi port, then probably. I dont really care for the lockscreen on it though :/

I would also like MIUI, I heard so much hype for it. Hopefully someone can port over a MDPI version of MIUI (I heard Galaxy 3 has MIUI and I think that phone is MDPI)
The problem isn't the resolution. The images could be resized fairly easy. The problem is that the frameworks are compiled for ARMv7 and will not work on older ARMv6 processors such as the one in your alls device. Sorry, the closest you all could get without purchasing a newer device is using some CM7/Launcher themes to try to mimic the look.

This.
Here's a CM7 MIUI theme by the same guy that did the Meizu theme.
Have to do the transparency patch for the status bar if you want it to look like that. (Which I would do regardless because it looks awesome.)

The Samsung Galaxy 3 has a MIUI port and it only has an ARM v6 processor. Sure, it's LDPI, but doesn't the fact that it's possible in the first place mean that it's also possible for the Espresso? Wouldn't it just take a dedicated porter who had the phone? I can understand that most people wouldn't be satisfied with just Launcher Pro or ADW with a MIUI theme.

As above, can we reasonably expect ICS to be released on Spring Epic 4G sometime in the future, for e.g. within one year from today? Either manufacturer ICS release or a cyanogen mod one will be fine, so long as it is functional and stable. It's really pissing me off when I read that LG is planning to roll of ICS to their older phones like the LG Optimus Black which is identical to the Galaxy S spec wise, and Samsung make the announcement on the same day saying that ICS for Galaxy S will not be released. Screw them!!!
Will Epic 4G users be stuck with Gingerbread? I'm not too up-to-date with the latest developments about this too, but am I right to say that stable Gingerbread mods are out already?

I know that cyanogen mod seems to be working on Galaxy S devices, but not the Sprint Epic 4G (it's not one of the supported devices on their webpage).
Assuming cyanogen mod gets a working ICS going for the other Galaxy S phones, how difficult will it be for the cookers here to create a ICS custom ROM for the Epic?

CM9 is a maybe and official is a no.
Honestly the reason I left Apple was because they stopped supporting my iPhone 2G. I mean seriously, I had that jailbroken and I had "multitasking" working fine MONTHS before they actually released it. But no, apparently my phone couldn't support it.
I really hope Samsung changes their mind.

They just don't want to be bothered to try. They won't change from BML or RFS and with Touchwiz and the limited system space they know it will be a huge pain in the ass. It took them 8 months to make GB work on Touchwiz and US Carriers and a few majors still don't have it. If they only had the i9000 to worry about it might have happened.
you maybe rite, there is no reason for them to make an full ics for 1st gen gs, other then goodwill. or use mtd, that's more work and money for samsprint. the vaule pack like it says here: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...d-of-a-true-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-update_id25156
is least they will do. but like you said it will take time for them to get it ready, but that time most ppl will be on an port of ics or an new phone or maybe cm9. the new nexus has an either Google's ics or Sammy's ics. they can port it over but will sprint or other us carriers push? why would Sammy make something that carriers will not push out to the phones?
Just think about how long it took for GB to get to Epic let alone ICS. I dont even see my self getting another phone for a while... I haven't even dropped this phone since I bought it. Then I Otter boxed it before it left the store. The hardware is sound and it stable for me OC @ 15MHz.
I read Samsung dropped the value pack as well, but who cares? I'll be running cm9 with working 4g so Samsuck can suck my big one.
