Has anybody installed any FTP apps on their Desire, and then found that there hosting space has been comprimised?
My webspace had a script inserted into every html file, plus 2 extra html files and 2 pics..that redirected you to some site full of virus's..
I run mccaffee and i'll also run adaware occassional to check for any spyware/malware that mccaffee may have ignored, my laptop is clean.. so i'm just wondering if its possible that droidftp could be responsible??
Just for the record mcaffee runs permantly and adaware is off untill i start it..

In the StartUp folder is a file called poutlook (.lnk)
This file is loaded in the memory on startup, so it's taking up memory space.
My Question is, do we need it?
Personally I don't use my HTC Universal for emailing. So why not delete the file.
I tested some features:
- I can still use my Calendar.
- I can still use my Contacts
- I can still send and receive SMS Messages.
What is a good Task Manager Tool to monitor?
How big is it in your device? Is the space that essential? I find that once you delete these things, suddenly you may face another problem so its better to leave it alone.
What I did is cut and paste the copy of it in your SD card, just in case you need it in the future. I find it doesn't do anything on mine, so I took it off my Universal. It is not a matter of space but minimizing the files running in the background to make your Universal run faster.
Well you might need it if you do MMS or SMS, other e-mail applications are sort of addons that use the databese. (well that is what I think anyway)
I did copy it to my SD card and saved it there.
I'm also fully capable of sending and receiving SMS Messages, so no problem there.
If someone finds a problem, please let us know.

You don't need it because it is just an application to manage your mms, sms, emails, your calendar and your contacts and you can find plenty of third party equivalent programs on the internet. The real mail application is tmail, and this one you definitely need.
If you need a Task Manager, just check here you might find it interesting...

Just want to know if theres a possible way on how can i modify a .cab browsers programs assigned to connect to a specific server? for example java browsers like ucweb and opera mini connects to a specific address before the app can be use. i already learned to locate those class files in java that holds the address where it connects and able to edit that file and allow the app to connect to my carriers gprs services with no fee. so im now trying to discover and wanted to learn how to edit a cab file, locate the file that holds the address, and modify it just like what i did to most java apps so i can use it free of charge here in the philippines.
hope somebody can give me a hint. thanks alot
For Windows Mobile, wm6 wm6.5
A single .exe ftp server for PPC. Easily transfer/dele files/folders via WIFI into your PPC.
Just setup Admin/anonymous account and root path in Option manu, then ready to go.
1,connect your PPC to you home WIFI router (or any other TCP/IP connections), run the program.
2,Program will show your phone's IP (like ftp//192.168.1.5)
3,You can use windows explorer, or any ftp client to upload and download files to your mobile phone.
copy files with Wife, it can easily reach the top SD card writing speed.this program also can be a gate to achieve remote->PPC, and PPC->PPC file management, or Internet File sharing, blah blah blah
It was in Chinese and I just translate it. Enjoy!
This is cool.
Thanks...

lol!
I recently got pulled up for recommending one of my apps, WifeNoStandby.
actually this FTP server is great. It handles multiple ips no problem.
I am including support for this in my StatusTicker app's menu.
I wonder if there is a link for the original developer?
That would be cool.
Thanks!
Nice, I have been getting pretty sick of having to plug into my computer just to upload a new file here and there. Unfortunately I don't have bluetooth on my computer and don't feel like buying an adapter that could easily break off. This worked perfectly!
Great share, thanks mate!

If you don't have Dropbox account CLICK HERE to open one and get initial 2.25GB* free instead of 2GB you would normally get without referral.
*must download and install dropbox client to pc for bonus to show.
**completing 'get started' will get you another 250MB for a total of 2.5GB shortly after registering
Now for the rest that do:
"Hi everyone!
Even though the holidays have passed, we're really stoked to give you guys one more present -- a new experimental release! Under the wrapping you'll find a bunch of new toys, including a brand new Camera Upload feature. Here are the release notes:
• Automatically uploads photos and videos in the background using Wi-Fi or data plan
• 500MB of free space on first photo uploaded automatically
• Upload files of any size (no more 180 MB limit!)
• Support for resuming file uploads when there are network issues
• Various performance improvements & bug fixes
During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 5GB total (including the initial 500MB space).
[Update: this space is not separate from 5GB given for uploading on our desktop clients. Uploading from either desktop clients or Android app will count towards the same 5GB free space.]

Those that would rather make that 5GB uploading form computer:
"Hello Forum users!
Another day another build. We're trying to snipe all the most common bugs. Keep plugging in those cameras!
During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 4.5GB total. [Update: To clarify, you can get up to 5GB of free space with this feature, if you count the initial 500MB space for the first photo import].
1.3.12
500MB of free space on first photo import
Cleanup UI in Windows non admin installation.
Fix infinite restart of Dropbox when database was corrupted.
Fix import error on iPhone with lots and lots of photos.
Better Handling of out of quota issues on first photo import.
Other small fixes
1.3 Features
Importing of photos from cameras, phones, and SD cards.
Batch upload/download of files.
Windows: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.exe
Mac OS X: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.dmg
Linux x86_64: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-1.3.12.tar.gz
Linux x86: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-1.3.12.tar.gz
Notes:
Clients 1.3.5 and earlier had an auto-update bug. Please install this version so that your client will stay up to date!
The photo import feature is not available on Mac 10.4 and Linux.
For Android devices, it's best to use "Connect as Disk Drive". HTC Sync will not work.
To import from iPhone, make sure to unlock your phone and enter your passcode before importing, otherwise it will claim to find no photos.
If importing from your iPhone on Mac gives an import error, try hard resetting it--hold down the power and the home button for 5 seconds. This will reboot the phone; it shouldn't change your settings or delete data.
On Windows, this feature relies on Autoplay. Please enable Autoplay to use this feature if you have disabled it.
On XP and Vista, it relies on the Windows Image Acquisition Service. If this service is not started, please start the service and reinstall Dropbox to use this feature. On WIndows Server, you may have to install the Desktop Experience feature.
On Windows 7, newer devices that rely on Device Stage (in the Control Panel) will not show Dropbox as an import option until you select "Change Program" for the default.
The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image on the device is a photograph. We now estimate how long it's going to take and show you that in the progress bar but it's usually in the order of minutes. We're working to see if this can be improved.
As usual, we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise."

Fastest way (tip i saw on g+) is to use beta desktop client provided in first post with those blank videos (you can put any avi or mp4 video on usb as well as long as it is in the dcim/camera foler and has not been uploaded to dropbox before and note 'renaming does not work') and use autorun dropbox import function.
must connect in mass storage mode or just plug microsd card ( usb reader and external hard drive does work as long as you keep proper folder structure dcim/camera). allow import to complete then in dropbox client 'pause syncing'. go to dropbox 'camera uploads' folder and delete files. again in dropbox client 'resume syncing' and thats it.
you just maxed 5GB without wasting all that time and bandwith!
note:you must have at least 4.5GB in pics and videos plus that one initial picture
another note: your maximum in pics and videos you want to import can not be greater than total dropbox ammount available to you or it will fail to sync properly. so best keep it around 5 just in case.

Got my extra 5GB already. Swhueet. My only worry is if Dropbox catch on; which they will. What will they do about it? Could they track who has been given large amounts of space, but not made any real difference in space in their online accounts? Could easily take the space back off us.

@theos0o best known for modding Skype from sgs forum has found a way to patch dropbox client into thinking we have regular htc phone, giving us aditional 3gb free for a year here
Last chance to get 5GB. New beta just came out that takes effect today, that lowers 5GB to 3GB.
"Yo ho ho, and a bottle of code!
We wanted to say a special thanks to all of our early beta users! Thanks to your feedback, we have been able to find and fix a bunch of bugs.
Starting today, new users of Camera Upload will get 500 MB after their first successful import. Users can also receive up to a total of 3 GB additional free space for photos and videos automatically uploaded via the desktop or mobile apps.
Forum build users who tested Camera Upload before today, either on the desktop or Android, will keep any additional storage space they received for trying the beta version, and will still be able to earn up to 5 GB."
thanks for the info bro! im going to try the avi trick right now hopefully its not to late
@theos0o strikes again!
Now bringing 23GB free for 2 years. Deal with dropbox and new HTC devices.

Tried Box but it have cap of 100Mb
Any trick how to upload Files from Stock browser ?
Try dropbox, files uploaded via desktop have no limit, files uploaded via the website have a 300MB limit
Use the following link to receive and additional 250MB storage space (once you install the desktop client) free on top of the 2GB you'll get anyway
http://db.tt/ROIQZh
If you use ubuntu, try ubuntu one it offers 5 Gb for free.
Check Sugarsync. It is even more feature-rich than Dropbox. and it's android client has a real sync option. it can sync your selected files in background just like PC clients. so there is no need to download your files everytime you need them.Dropbox client is running all the time in background but it doesn't sync anything. just consume battery and cpu juice for nothing.
If you dont need the auto sync ability, i suggest one of box,Drop Box or Sugarsync. All these three is supported by "ES file Explorer". which lets you manage them just as easy as any local storage on your handset. and you wont need any power consumer client.
I myself use sugarsync for it's nice client, and BOX on ES for its huge free 50GB storage.
