Evo not charging,or taking very long to charge - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I flashed Ultimate Droids Rom my battery has started to take alot longer to charge. I throw it on the charger at 6%, and check half an hour later to see that its gone up maybe 1% or none!
I've tried to nandroid to past Roms that haven't had this problem but they all seem to be the same.
Could it be my Evo,or my Battery?,
Sent from my HTC EVO

It might not be your battery nor your phone. It might just be the rom you put. take it off and then see if your battery improves. If you know someone who has an evo, maybe an incredible since it uses the same battery try putting theirs in and see if it makes a difference. That way it will save you some time from completely restoring the rom.

Okay I'm pissed off. I took my phone off this morning at 28% ,so I throw it on the charger turned OFF,30 minutes later 8% l
WTF is happening!?

You are being punished for being a bad person.
Lol, seriously, my guess is any number of things:
1) Check to make sure your red charging light comes on when you plug in.
2) Make sure your charger isn't plugged into a socket controlled by a lightswitch you have turned off.
3) Make sure there are no micro-breaks in your charging cord's casing that would be causing a short (this happened to me - got new charging cord, problem solved).
4) Make sure your charger is rated at at least 5 volt / 800 ma.
5) Your usb port may have gone bad.
6) Go into Clockwork Recovery and clear your battery stats under "Advanced Options".
7) Your battery is cooked (happens - hardware breaks).
8) It could just be a coincidence that this is happening to you after you flashed UD. I was just over at their forum and this doesn't seem to be a common problem.
I have an EVO and am running the UD 12/3 nightly and it is flawless. 2.3 was a bit buggy. The new nightly is better.

same problem
Has any one figured out what's the problem with EVO and the battery charging situation? A couple weeks ago I noticed my battery wasn't charging, I turned the phone off and on then it would charge...now it won't charge at all WTF? I got a red light indicating my phone is plugged in, I got a thunder bolt in the battery window indicating charging, but the green bar is not moving while charging anymore. If I unplug the phone it will shut down. ANY AND SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED...THANKS IN ADVANCE

EVO not charging fully and draining fast
Okay, here's my deal. My friend and I both have EVO's. We both are running Vaelpaks 3.1 rom. We both have the Battery Monitor Widget. When I charge my battery, it charges to 100% and 0mA. When my friend charges his phone, it reads 100% but the mA is not going to 0mA. Instaead it bounces between 64mA (red) or 252 mA (green). When he unplugs the phone, it drops 10% within minutes and continues to drop at a much faster rate than my phone.
Here's the kicker, when I pull his battery out of his phone and charge it in my phone, it charges to 100% and 0mA. then we put it back in his phone and it works great, until he charges it again. It charges the same way regardless of the rom we run. We have loaded Manilla Carbon by xxbabiboi228xx, VaelPak 3.1 and even stock and his phone won't charge to completion and drains quickly. Also, we are both rooted with Urevoked. We may switch to S on and see about switching the phone with Sprint unlees anyone has some sort of idea about whats going on with his phone. It may have something to do with the Hardware Version through settings/About Phone. My hardware version is 0003 and his is 0002. Thanks

you guys running the same kernel too?

It's the kernel, when your battery reaches 100% its supposed to stop charging but SBC kernels will continue to trickle charge. Li-ions aren't supposed to be trickle charged so they will wear out much quicker and possibly become unstable.

Battery problems already??

Hi all
Just after an opinion really, also see if anyone else is having a similar problem with there battery??
I've had my desire now since April, and recently been having issues with the battery. When charging it, the Orange LED charge light will turn green at around 94% charge and still climb to 100%. Then when its charged (for a whole night) I unplug it, battery states 100% charge for about a minute, then drops straight to 93%. I've tried it with a few roms now, standard Rom, froyo, now on pays bravesoul release, and they all do the same...
I've tried resetting battery charge status in recovery console too, but made no difference...
Surely the standard battery can't be on its way out already??
*edit*
Info in my Sig is a bit out of date, so ignore what it says lol! Running latest pays bravesoul release as mentioned, not done any tweaks to this Rom yet!
Install JuicePlotter and then monitor the usage
report back
it should show whats using the battery when it takes a huge decrease
AFAIK the charging stops after reaching 100% (probably as safety measure)
and there doesn't seem to be a trickle charge function to keep it at 100%. This is actually a good thing 'cause Li-ion and Li-poly batteries don't like to stay in the highest or lowest regions too long.
So...charging stops at 100% and after that you're running on battery. Try charging it and unplug the charger when 100% is reached (look at the actual %, not the LED. You will notice it'll go down at the same rate it always does and no jump to 93%.
I think it charges to 100%, then allows itself to drop back to 90% (the phone still shows 100% though) and when you unplug the phone from the wall, it will drop back to the "actual charge".
If you plug it back in, it should start to charge back to 100%.

[Q] Not sure if I have found a battery drain bug or what

Something I've discovered recently, and I am not sure I can explain it properly, but here goes...
I am running SRF 1.1.1, I don't believe this is the cause of the problem, but probably something that should be stated.
So running SRF1.1.1, I usually get wonderful battery life. I typically use an external charger and swap out batteries when they get to around 10-15%. This has worked well for me.. For the past few days I got lazy, and just plugged my phone in and left it on my desk to charge, no problem. When the battery is fully charged and I unplug it from the charger, I noticed it was rapidly draining.... I am aware that often when charging via the phone the battery immediately drops to 96% when removed from the charger. So this is normal, but I've noticed that after unplugging from the charger I lose about 10% per hour, when normally it may be 1-2% depending on usage.
To remedy this problem, rebooting seems to fix this issue. I have also had success with the airplane mode toogle. I don't see any odd usages showing up in spare parts, but is there any other way I can test this theory?
Thanks!!
Edit: Wanted to add, that this only seems to happen when using the charger cable with the phone. Swapping batteries does not seem to produce this issue. It is only when the phone is removed from the charger.
I haven't calibrated by battery lately and thats exactly what mine does too, I would stick to the external charger because our phones charge excruciatingly slow unless off. Try calibrating by charging to full while on then turn it off and let it charge more and repeat that a couple times then boot into cwm go to advanced and clear batt stats
Is there an advantage to calibrating a battery if it is not being charged in the phone?
This is the TWS bug mixed with no battery calibration.

similar to what i have been experiencing. i enjoyed great battery life with srf 1.1.0. have a 3500mAh battery that i used to get about 48 hours out of, but now it is averaging around 25-30. i do not have anything but the stock battery to swap with, so i do put it on the charger nightly now. i was planning to recalibrate the battery tonight to see if that cleared things up.
what would be a way to fix the tws bug?
I have noticed this too. It seems to srf seems to not like my extended battery. I am lucky I get a day out of it. I some times will plug it into one of my work computers just to bring the charge up a little and it starts flashing red and discharging this is only on my extended battery not the 2 stock ones I have. I have even tried different kernals to see if that was issue it isn't.
Sent from my lean mean drunken machine useing XDA Premium and a 12 pack of Sam Lager
in looking at battery usage in >settings>about phone>battery use>cell standby i see usually 0-5% tws.
one thing i have noticed, though have not tested is that the screen appears brighter, even at the minimum setting than what i remember from srf 1.1.0

Battery Maxes at 75%

I just got a refurbed (most likely) Epic via Assurion because I dropped my old one in the toilet. I assume the battery is brand new, and not refurbed (can you refurb a battery?)
Anyhow, my battery charges at about 1% every 10 minutes, it takes forever to charge. Also, overnight, my led will go blue and show 100% charged, as soon as I unplug, the phone says 75% charged. Spare Parts battery status also reports 75%... any ideas?
I'm running ACS 1.2 with twilight kernel.

Sounds like a bad flash and a battery in need of calibration. My battery charges at like 1% every 1.25 minutes or less. I was astounded.

I've done this same thing and every time the most i'll get is 98%.. No matter which way i try and recalibrate the battery it won't get past 98% with SFR (any version)
Charging the battery to 100% decreases the overall lifetime of it. Your battery/phone is perfectly fine.

Just curious what else you have flashed on your phone? I have this problem too after flashing a certain something and it's happened on 3 ROMS, all after flashing something. Now I unplug from overnight and it drops to around 85%, I plug back in and it goes to 100% but no blue LED. If I unplug at that point it stays at 100% like it should then does what it does.
The USB port on my phone is...fickle. Last night it kept vibrating from being plugged in/out/in/out. So I just unplugged it (cause I was half asleep). This morning I checked it and it said 74%. Got ready for work, checked it again and it had dropped to 7%. WTF. Guess it's time to reset the battery stats!
I'm running twilight kernel, ACS SRF 1.1 or whatever the latest is, and I flashed the 8 lockscreen mod bc I wanted the plain version of the puzzle, not the ACS version.
I think it was a charger/cord issue. I've used my old HTC Hero charger and cord for a while, but when I used the Samsung one last night, it charged all the way to 100%. Just took it off the HTC charger after 2.5 hours, and it charged all of 12 percent. Not sure why, but that seems to be it.
The 98% issue is pretty common and no big deal. It's just because Android sometimes turns the charge off once it hits 100, and doesn't turn the charge back on because it would just keep charging a battery 1%, on, off, on, off. Bad for battery. I knew the 75% deal wasn't related bc that's just too low, and it is still weird it was showing 100%.

[Q] Why is my battery losing life, or not displaying correct percentage?

About a month ago, I flashed Gingerbread onto my Epic 4G. Did nothing else, been running the usual BatteryLife by CurveFish without any hiccups or fluctuating readings.
However, recently, I don't seem to be getting a full charge. Or, the battery likes to drain. Either that or BatteryLife is not giving proper readouts anymore. For example, I can plug my phone in and let it charge. Its LED will go blue and the widget shows 100%. But, now, sometimes I'll look at the phone again later (while it's still connected with the charging cord or not) and the widget will read something like 82%. And, just now the widget is now showing 78%.
My battery has been fully discharged and recharged many times before for proper calibration. I even ran a battery calibration app. Still, this problem happens. What exactly is going on? I have had the phone tethered to remain charged and never once had a problem with the battery. I do know when I flashed Gingerbread, my battery life has increased dramatically.
Charge till you get the fully charge notification
Then turn off
Then go into click work recovery
Go to advanced
Click reset battery stats or something like that
Put back on charger
This proly happens cause of overheats from the super crap **** gb leaks
Also discharging the battery doesn't help
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Then, why does everyone say to get the most out of your battery, you discharge it fully then charge it up to 100% about a couple times to maintain proper battery life and calibration?
There is an issue with some installations of the gb leaks where the battery stops charging at 100% even when it is still plugged in. I had this issue and could not remedy it. Went back to a solid ec05 base and my charging works fine again.

Charging issue that is not being found in google NOT rom related

I have a rooted 0003 Evo that runs many different roms- miui to bliss sense 3.5. It has amon ra 2.3 and the original hboot. it is completely rooted with s-off.
Now my issue... a few days ago I woke up with my phone on the charger but it completely dead. I had been running cm7 nightlies for about a month and always woke up with 80-85 % with it off of the charger. I thought maybe a nightly messed me up so thought it would be a good time to start flashing again, well it is not the rom. The thing I noticed was that when it is plugged into the htc wall charger (other chargers do not charge at all for me, no light or anything) it will say charging : AC but then switch to USB. I can not figure out why this is happening. It has now become impossible to use the phone when plugged in it drains faster then it can charge. I did find a wake lock issue but that now seems to be fixed. This morning I managed to get it to read 100% but it dropped to 71% within 10 minutes. I am now clueless so if anyone has any ideas let me know it would be appreciated. it battery monitor I also noticed that my "current" goes from red 20mah to green 260 mah but I am not a electrician and have no idea what these numbers mean
EDIT:
the phone says the battery is good and this was a sudden problem, like perfect battery performance with heavy use then just dead. I will need to go purchase a cradle. I am really hoping it is not the port. the thing that has me really confused is the switching from AC charge to USB charge without the phone even being moved.
Your battery is probably old and dying out due to age or sbc kernel? . Try a new battery or charge your current battery on an external cartridge. (Seperate wall charger)
I'm not too experienced with batteries but that is the process I will try out

I'm willing to bet that it's possibly your battery. Sounds to me like it just can't hold the charge correctly. The red and green numbers in BMW represent a drain or a charge. If you're at a red 20MAH (Milliamps/hour) then it's only draining at 20mah and that's nothing at all. Mine usually avgs a steady 51 throughout the day minus the times I'm checking something and I get my 8 hours just fine. I've used SBC kernels for a long time and mine doesn't do that kind of stuff or show any fatigue or damage from it. If you have a spare HTC Hero the batteries are the same. If not you COULD bring it to a sprint store and have them check it.

My wife and I had the same problem with our evo. We found out that it was the cheap aftermarket chargers that messed our phones up. I had to get a replacement. She is due for an upgrade so she will wait in the meantime she uses a battery cradle to charge hers. She is waiting for the I phone 5.

Thanks for the replys, I was just hoping for it to be user error. I do only use the htc wall charger. It was so sudden, I believe that is what was the most shocking.
