Search Button Long Press keeps adding programs! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are a few programs I want to activate when long pressing the Search Button; however, I keep getting programs adding themselves to the list and I can't seem to delete them.
Is there some central place where the programs that appear there is controlled?

Bump. I'd actually like to know the opposite.. I'd like to add a few programs to the list.. There has to be some means of editing this??

Is there a way to arrange start menu?

Mine seems totally random. It's not sorted by anything.
Not to sound like a jerk but do a search. This was posted recently and discussed before. I don't remember the reg path off the top of my head.

Thanks! but that one seems for arranging Settings?

I second smarttoolkit ( www.e-natives.com) . I wish M$ would pay him to license his start menu for when WM7 comes out. Instead of that crappy Grid or List View start menu
for sure. it's a great program/app. i've never had any issues w/ slowness because of it either. plus, the app closer is key to have that handy.

Never heard of the app closer key. Can you elaborate? If you're talking about the right soft-key to close applications for the smarttoolkit app then i understand what you're talking about. But if you're referring to a different program, please share.
And BTW, to the original thread creator, The smarttooklit organizes the start menu in alphabetical order with anything in folder form to come up first. But you can also pin favorite programs to the quick launch section of the start menu which are the first 6 programs that pull up on the left-hand side. You just have to navigate through your start menu, press the right soft key select " pin to quick launch" and select which launcher number you want to assign the program to.
on the right side, i have a task button, if you click it, open programs appear & you can close them.

Creating folders in the start-menu

Hiho,
the more programms you install on your TP2, the longer the startmenu will be. Rolling throug this can be a realy long way. So I wanted to create some folders to minimize the menue and make it easyer to work with, but I didn't succeed. Isn't it possible to create folders in the startmenu of TF3D?

Balu
I hated the All Programs in one list.
As you already mentioned, it is a pain when the list starts growing, and you want to start something in the middle or near the end of the list.
So I was eager to get the old "All programs" back, in columns and rows.
I found a .cab file in this thread, and that works for me!

Use the default Windows Mobile's Start Menu! Press and hold the Call button over TF3D, after the Start Menu will popup. You can create folders to the "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" dir.
@ronh: Great thing - I even like that one. Thx a lot!

Could you explain this further? Is it something that should work without any tweaking?
if you assign to long press call button the start menu, it will open the original windows start menu, not the manila one...
Brilliant, thanks. I'd never looked in the buttons settings because of the lack of hardware buttons! It's a shame we can't assign the speakerphone mute to something when outside of that mode.

X-panel button - switch between programs

Is it possible to assign to xpanel button switching between programs? i don't use this button and this option would be great for it i think.
p.s
don't redirect me to thread where is written how to assign exe to xpanel button
Hah found how to do it I will write tutorial maybe someone need it.
1. We need software called AltTab.exe
Download and put in Windows directory
2. Take any registry editor and go to ( thanks to jackleung )
HKLM\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\ApplicationName
and Change it to \..\Windows\AltTab.exe
3. Nothing more now xpanel button switches between running programs
amazing.
Will test this now.

yes, you have to reset your system, but NOT the "hard" way...
go to \windows\startup and delete the panelmanager.lnk in there. do a softreset. now change the reg-key like mentioned above. do NOT press the x-panel-key!!! (you can use any program-file, i use it for starting comm-manager)
one more softreset and you're done.
the reason for this is:
if you press the panel-key the first time after flashing a rom, a .lnk get's put into the startup-folder, starting panelmanager with every boot and overwriting any changes to the reg-key you may have made. (kinda like autostart on your pc)
Inspired!
Not only got rid of the panel manager, but can also cycle through open apps.
However... it seems to cycle through just 2 apps. If 3 or more applications are open, it will just cycle through the last 2.
I followed the instructions as above - maybe there is another tweak?
Try installing TaskFacade and assigning the X-button to it. Really nice program, all cred goes to GPS-lover.

Use the fist state on the camera button instead. That isn't used for anything anyway. Assign alttab.exe with AE Button Plus. I use it with double tap on the button so I don't press it by mistake. When entering the xperia camera it works as usual. So you don't need to worry about that.

If you press Xpanel button fast it will switch between other apps.
I loved TaskFacade
If you want to assign TaskFacade to Xpanel - you just write \TaskFacade\TaskFacade.exe
fantastic, thanks a lot to vladimired and caliban2! Now I can finally switch between programs (and also turn to the today screen) with the X-Panel button and close programs quickly with the OK button.
For this I do not use TaskFascade. I prefer the app switcher from Spb Pocket Plus. If you use this program, just copy the AltTab.exe in the folder ...\programs\PocketPlus into the windows folder like mentioned above. The rest is similar.
Im kinda lost, can you post clearer instructions on how to do this with the tab.exe and taskfacacde, thanx
Here is video how everything works with TaskFacade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw1dIW-YBLA
i will write more detailed manual lately today, if my work will not swallow me
TaskFacade its the best aplication i have in my x1a thanx
TaskFacade is a very nice app, but it does take some time for the images of the open applications to appear.
I'm after speed... compared to TaskFacade, it's faster to go to the Manila home page and click on the "OK" button area, and then switch as necessary.
That was the benefit of AltTab... but it'll only cycle through 2 open applications
I've installed Ae Buttons but i don't figure what button from the menu is the X Panel button? Any ideea?
I want the x panel button to open the panel manager when pressed short, and another program when pressed long.
Cheers!
Edit: I found this: Press File->Add button and press the button. The X-Panel button code: #00EA. Now i try to make it work on long press
Later Edit: Done. If you select from the drop down menu and chose "4.Long press" you can choose an action. I thought that if i select "4.Long press" , the "1.Single press" will become inactive, but i was wrong. Now my Xperia is Perfect
Hi all,
i'd like to inform You about small application that could be useful with changing mapped x-panel button:
RWA - Run With Argument - 1.0
small application that allows to run any other *.exe file with arguments...for some reasons it can be useful especially when working on HTC devices...
so we bind XPanel to RWA, and in RWA for ex. tmail.exe with SMS argument... to we get SMS Inbox under XPanel Button
and that's all... maybe somebody could find it as an useful application ...
XDA Thread Link
thank you!!
thanks to vladimired for this trick, very usefull
i set XPanel Button with TaskFacade (that looks like a Panel Manager ) and it works fine

Disable the quicklinks?

Hi.
Just testing out the manila 2.1, and was wondering whether there was any way to disable the quicklinks?
Had a quick look around, but couldn't see anything, so hopefully someone knows
Cheers
What are these "quicklinks"? Are you referring to the locked items in the HTC Start Menu? (ie, Home, People, Contacts, Settings?) If so, you can find out how to delete them in the following sticky thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524655
No, I was talking about the Manilla 2.5, where on the home page, you have the option to add programs which can be run straight off the home page. It's kind of like on the programmes tab, how it has the little + button to add the programme, but it's directly on the home page...
Haven't found a way to disable it, but found a way to stop it from showing the + etc, which I guess will do for me...
To do it, extract the attached file to \Windows on the pda, and restart the phone. This will make them available (so click in the rough area if you wanted to add a programme), but won't show anything there if you've not added a programme to it...

WM65 rearranging items in Start Menu (all Programs list)?

Apologies if this is addressed already somewhere. I searched for "rearrange" and did not see something which looked like what I'm asking.
I would like a tool (or failing that, just the registry or file magic) to rearrange Start menu (all Programs list) items in WM65. I'm running a Dutty Holy Grail ROM on my Topaz, withOUT HTC Sense.
The only rearranging option I see is "Move to Top" and "Move Down" when right-clicking on items in the Start menu, and that's sort of like a Rubik's cube - possible to get right, but waaaay too much work :-}
Thanks for your suggestions,
Jay
Since build like month or month a half back you should be able to "right click" and move it just where you want.
This is what you're looking for!
Not a sorter, a way to manually set icons/programs in whatever order *I* want
the "Start Menu Sorter" app is not at all what I'm looking for. It only does a sort (alphabetic?) of its own design.
What I'm looking for - sorry if I wasn't clear before - is something to allow me to rearrange the icons in the Start / Programs folder in any way that I want to. Ideally this would be a drag-and-drop interface, but frankly a Registry key or System file which identifies the order in which all of the registered programs appears would be okay, as it isn't the sort of thing I expect to edit often.
Any other ideas please?
Thanks.
Try this one http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=68864. This gives you full access, havent tried it myself, but going to today (if I can find the time). Looks like it may still be in Beta, but better than what we currently have!
This might also help.
reSTART seems to do the trick!
The reSTART applet does seem to do the trick, thanks.
The JSPA applet I had already tried - it actually does not seem to have any way to move menu items around, though when I read the web pages about it I also got the impression that it was supposed to do so.
