I installed CM 6.1 and now my phone won't read my SIM contacts!
I was on Virtuous 0.7.1 and it worked fine!
What gives?
thx!
IE: I go to contacts and menu and go to import/export
i click on import from SIM
it says my sim has no numbers!
EDIT:
MY sim card is from Fido, a Canadian provider.
CM is based on T-Mobiles ROM, while Virtuous is based on Sense, so its like Europe?
It's my attempted of an educated guess, using the little education I have about this android ROM business.
[SOLVED]
-Download Virtuous and install it
-Use Virtuous Rom to export SIM data onto SD card
-install whatever the hell rom you want
-go to contacts->import->from sd card-> voila
Thank you SO much for your help guys =D
what about if you need to keep contacts on sim?
there is no way to use cyanogenmod rom or miui...

Hi all new? here got an o2 orbit need advice?
Im just wondering what i could and should do to improve it, its currently runnin on wm5 i have the official file to update to wm6 but dont want to lock out my orange sim card ?
any advice ?
Hi can i install these special roms on this site without messing up the usual features on my phone . Pleases help?
Yes you can. Make sure you unlock the CID first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308242
Cheers m8 so which rom is recommended at the moment and i wont mess up my phone will i as im unlocked o2 at the moment. Also can i backup my rom im using now simply?? thx again
I have the same phone on o2, (I didn't know Orange done this phone ?) anyway, I would reccomend this ROM, its what im using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342298
It is based on Windows mobile 6, and has all extra toys to play with.
Read the post, see if you like it (its best one IMO)
Download it, do step one first (This is CID unlocking), then step two (flash the device).
I think you can backup your device now but it depends on what you want to backup.
If you mean backup your contacts, SMS messages, photos ect then sure you can. Copy them with activesync or search google, there are many programs out there.
If you mean backup your device entirely (As in ROM) im pretty sure you can but its not needed. You will find on this site both the offical ROM that your phone came with WM5 so you can go back to that, or the offical ROm for WM6 so you can go back to that.
All custome ROMS are SIM unlocked so you will be able to use your orange sim card.
Hope this helped.
ok im a bit lost but here is my situatoin and question...
Sit: I bought a Unicel HTC S621 phone works fine, but i want to upgrade the Mobile version from 5.1
Question: Is there a way to upgrade this with a T-Mobile 6.0 or higher version as i am a T-Mobile Customer?
Ponder: Is this phone the same as T-Mobile Dash? just curious because it appears to be.
Hi my friend. I have an htc s621 from mexico telcel, there is a lot of t-mobile roms in the roms section you should take a look there. They are the same phone as s621 is american and s620 is european.
Greetings
thanks alot just wanted to be sure they would work

Welcome to the forums
TY for the help i did read something, about unlocking CID... is there a way to tell if its unlocked?
i do know the SIM is unlocked as i have put my T mobile card into it and made calls and text with it in. So even tho its unicel phone i did get it does work with my t m sim.... i want to do this right, but am unsure if the CID is unlocked.
normally they come CID locked.
if you want to flash directly, turn off the phone, quit sd card and sim card and turn on the phone while pressing camera button, this will put your device into flash mode. Download a T-Mobile Rom and connect via usb, and run ROM update, if you get a error code then your device si protected or the model predefined is not the same as intended the update utility. You can "force" the ROM update using the tools that gmaniac2008 told you.
I like very much original rom, altough some cooked roms you can found in the rom section are very nice and have the latest windows mobile releases, lots of prebuilts apps and customizations.
in Official ROMS
you should install maybe this 1.22.531.6 (T-Mobile USA, WM6) because contains some configurations like mms, gprs, etc. from your carrier (to install this try the past method if dont works then you have to read more to force install)
A good choice if you want to try a custom rom, and they have autoinstaller (just need to quit sd and sim and turn on the phone, connect to usb, and run the utility. The utility is autoinstall.

greets
Thanks for the help and guidance to the right ROM but one big problem, there is no romupdateutility.exe file in the .rar file i downloaded so how the heck do i get the update utility?
oh btw if it matters im running windows 7 x64
Just download the files, they contain te rom update utility. Just have to run.
Better if you make the update on Windows XP x32.
Take a further read on FAQs thread. Official updates (rom updates utilities) looks like RUU_EXCALIBUR_bla bla bla.exe
RUU_HTC_S620_bla bla bla.exe or
RUU_HTC_s621 etc etc etc
Greets.
I've been trying out various roms for my G2 and I've noticed that most of the Cyanogen based ROMs, and a few others could not access the sim card contacts on my phone. I'm currently using Pyromod 2.0 as I find it the fastest, but no application can read or write to the sim card.
I used Virtuous V1.0.2 and found that it had no problems accessing the sim card for read or write.
The sim card works fine on my G1 using any ROM, full access to the sim card is available.
Does anyone else have this problem with their SIM card and certain ROMs?
Could the problem have anything to do with rooting/unlocking the phone via gfree rather than using the t-mobile unlock code? I am not on the t-mobile network, I'm using the phone in Canada with Wind Mobile.
The only roms I have been able to access sim contacts from are stock rom that came with phone, gingersense, and the gingerbread leak for tmobile g2. You have to use an application to actually see what's on sim though. I use an app called contact2sim pro. Works great as long as the rom allows it.

Does anyone have any insight into why certain ROMs can access the sim card contacts, and some can't? Is there a setting or APK that could be brought in from another ROM to allow sim read/write access?
I haven't been able to find much information about this issue besides "try airplane mode on/off" (doesn't work), and "save your contacts to a file with working rom, flash back to rom you want to use and import" which doesn't help when I want to save new contacts to the SIM.
I've asked this question in the past and never got an actual answer.

yes, the same problem here...
I've tried out a new ROM from xboarder56, the "stock" gingerbread ROM with the stock kernel. I was able to access the sim card and export my contacts no problem (except for creating a huge mess in my address book when importing them on the other ROM!)
From what I can figure out from my experimenting, the sim card read/write does not work correctly with any modified kernels. This would include the cyanogen based ROMs, or other ROM's that probably have a modified kernel as there were some custom ROMs that didn't read or write the sim card either.
I will try and dig a little deeper into this issue and experiment with new kernels, maybe there is an overclockable kernel for cyanogen based that will still access the SIM card properly. I've been wanting to develop a custom ROM for a while now so this might just be my excuse to get around to it
If anyone has tested a ROM with a custom kernel that DOES access the sim properly please let me know. So far the working ROMs I've tried are:
xboarder56 [ROM] Pure/Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 v1.1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054574
rmk40 [ROM][04/11/11] Virtuous v1.0.2 (HTC Sense 1.85.72.2) w/Fixes & Enhancements
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042
i have the problem also, i'm unable to read/write sim card with certain roms, all rom except based on stock
after several test, all rom based on no stock have the problem of read/write sim card
i on coolos miui v4 and it works with this rom, coolos sensei work also, vipez work also.....
On my HTC One M8, if I use the stock ROM or Android revolution, the SIM card works fine, however if I install Liquid or Paranoid Android, I lose network and it won't recognize the SIM - this effectively rules out "bent card trays" or other similar fixes. (Plus, I already got a new card tray in the form of a new warranty replacement M8 that I tried. No love.)
I tried flashing a new radio to no avail....
If anyone has an easy fix, or any insight into the issue, I'd be eternally grateful. I absolutely cannot stand HTC Sense and all it's myriad annoyances.
Anyone?

Have you tried searching the LS or PA threads to see if this is a known issue? I'm not a user of AOSP ROMs so I don't personally know off hand whether this is the case or not.
You can also try CM12 or a GPE based ROM.
Also, make sure all firmware is up to date (as well as TWRP version), not just radio.
Try searching for network and choos manualy. When i flash a CM12 base rom i must do that.
Tried that... and it works under CM12 too... just not the others that I listed (so far)
Updated TWRP and started over from scratch. Same results - runs CM 12, stock and any other sense based roms without any issues. Attempting to run any AOSP roms results in the no SIM failure.
Dumping it back to stock and sending it back in favor of using the new one they sent under warranty. I'll root this one later and test it to see if it will take.
Same thing on new phone. Gah.
