Probably the same as the HTC Legend/Aria/Liberty
EDIT: Although soon enough you will all have access to the entire NAND with S-OFF. (And a special ingredient)
Thanks for the reply. How will S-OFF get installed? Will it require USB debugging to be enabled or will it be in the form of an update.zip?

I'm sure it will require us to either be in recovery or have debugging enabled, probably the first. After that, Alpa Rev is releasing our S-OFF method via Linux LiveCD. You will have to boot the cd from external media or run the iso in an emulator such as VMWare, Parallels, etc. to run the tool.
Sent from my HTC Espresso running CM6.

These are pins placed on the circuit board for testing interconnects at the factory. We use them to repair a "bricked" phone by connecting directly to the circuitboard and flashing a new image to the nand. It can also be used to gain a full dump of the memory.

Confirmed. Again, the only rollback method I know of right now is to pull the chips off the board and force flash via a programmer. JTAG may work but I don't have the hardware or software to test it.
Thanks both of you guys for clearing it up, I was only hoping lol

yeah, ok, the procedure enables the search of the Internet adb drivers (Windows Vista), but these are not found in databases of Microsoft.
So the only way is to install them manually as specified above.

Howdy everyone!
Here's another neat root!
What is this?
This is a very simply and easy to use root package for the LG G2.
For now I'm calling it IORoot, despite the fact that it's not really all that deserving of a name.
Which phones does this support?
Currently the following phones are supported by this root package:
AT&T G2 (D800) - D80010d
Verizon G2 (VS980) - VS98010B (Shipping ROM)
Verizon G2 (VS980) - VS98011A (OTA)
T-Mobile G2 (Shipping ROM)
KT F320k (Shipping ROM)
Rogers D803 (Shipping ROM)
Bell D803 (Shipping ROM)
Telus D803 (Shipping ROM)
OPEN D802 (Shipping ROM)
How do I use this?
Here's a video!
Or, in List Form:
Ensure you have the proper USB drivers installed, and your phone is in the proper mode (For Verizon, use Ethernet mode on the PC settings menu)
Enable Developer Mode on your phone and enable USB Debugging
Extract this zip file somewhere on your PC
Run root.bat
The phone will ask you to disconnect USB, disable USB debugging, then re-enable it and plug the phone back in, do so when prompted
You will then be asked if you would like to have a superuser package installed, which you can accept or decline
Why is it asking if I want to 'trip rootchecker'?
LG's phones come with some software loaded that detects the presence of root on a phone, and invalidates your warranty.
Rooting the phone, by nature, voids your warranty. You can put your phone in a special mode where ADB shell has root permissions, however your phone is not technically 'rooted' by app standards.
You will not be able to use 'root required' apps on your phone if you do not let the root script install Superuser.
Okay, where do I get this?

This is confirmed to work for the ATT and Verizon variants, I'll add support for T-Mobile as soon as I get someone in #lg-g2 in Freenode who owns one.
Simple:
Ensure you have ADB drivers installed and USB Debugging enabled
Extract this .zip file somewhere
Run the root.bat file, and read the instructions
During the installation, you'll have to disable USB Debugging and re-enable it, then the app will ask you if you care about rootcheckerd (rctd).
If you don't want your phone to show "rooted" in download mode, or in settings, hit CTRL-C when prompted and you'll just have a root shell through ADB.
Personally, this is enough for me, but if you want full root, press continue and it'll install superuser and a superuser binary for you.
PLEASE do not mirror this! It makes my life easy if I can just edit the file on my server if need be instead of contacting all the mirrors.

First!!! Thanks IO and all the devs responsible :highfive:
Can you explain the difference between root shell (leaving it to say unrooted) and "full" root? Will this affect once we get a way to unlock the bootloader or get a recovery for roms? And is there a way to unroot? Thanks for this!!

Root shell allows you to have root only through ADB. Apps on the phone will not be able to use the root functions of the device if you don't let my script install superuser.

The other thread contained a link to a root that could possibly compromise your phone's security (and your desktop too, since there's all sorts of other stuff in those exe files).
If someone pops into the #lg-g2 chan with a TMO phone I'll gladly support TMO as well!
If you did happen to use the old root, I'd recommend restoring your phone back to stock with the TOT / KDZ files before applying this root.

You need to have the android sdk installed on your computer. I find it easier to use a distro of linux but windows is fine too. Find android sdk install and make sure adb is in the /platform-tools folder. Then run this adb devices cmd with your phone attached via usb and if it works you should have an rsa security pop up on your phone you have to allow. Then your phone is connected via adb.

how does one "pop into the #lg-g2 chan" ? i have a tmo g2 and i'm no dev or hacker but i'm clever and have been rooting and customizing since 4.0.
all i really want at this point is the ability to remove the bloatware and then possibly unroot

You will need to go back to stock, and then reroot with this rooter.
If you are on VZW ONLY, follow my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960

Hmmmmm..... In order to do such things, you have to put your device in HTC DIAGNOSTICS MODE, when the device is put in this mode. Another device is enabled in the DHD so that when its connected to a pc, the pc also recognizes the phone as HTC DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE.
If you are able to archieve this, then you can modify your IMEI with QPST or CDMA WORKSHOP.

]Now, the annoying part is, To put the DHD in DIAG MODE.
I searched and searched but couldnt find the command. So i went over to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626638
and found some DIAG codes but they were for samsung. I still tried and tried and was able to enable DIAG mode with this command
Code:
adb shell
su
echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_diag/on
After entering this, a new device pops up in device manager but QPST is unable to communicate with the device.
It seems i have to enable other stuffs.

I have got one or two things to do so you can try your hands. Once you have installed ur drivers and QPST and entered the command from adb, open QPST configuration. If you see an open port with the inscription no phone, then you are stuck but if you see an open port with phone then you could be getting your phone working any moment from now.
Note if your phone shows up correctly, becareful of what you do with QPST. or you could brick your device.
Got to go...seeya later.

Yeah.
I can recall also reading something some time ago about making your SD Card(External) the bootable one and then fixing the "internal" from there but I'm not sure if that will even work either, was for another device as well.
I don't think a lot of developers/"hackers" on here sat down trying to figure out solutions to a problem that isn't so frequent on this device. I mean, who would flash a LG "anything" on an HTC...
Just wondered if it might work out seeing as it at least "detects" that much from the phone. It's a type of Qualcomm recovery mode isn't it, QHUSB-etc etc
Figured that maybe it is in a "semi" on condition already, it's just that you can't do anything with it. But if it's completely broke then might as well take it into service center for repair. Don't know what you're gonna tell them though @escoda
Yep. From what i know on the htc one x, once you turn off the phone completely (no hibernation mode) and you plug it in the pc it goes automatically to a adb hibernation mode. That's why its in the device manager. So it reads the device but can't respond correctly. But to get a step ahead it's very necessary to turn the device on.
@escoda its not completely bricked yet. Just go to ubuntu and follow the guide mentioned from Brendm14. Like he also said you only need to download then those files for the htc one m8. Most qualcomm devices have everything on the same partition but you could probably examine or the bootloader and the other required stuff are the same partition number as in the guide. If so then you still just need to download the htc files and do it the same.
I dont know where you can get the htc files since I am/was an LG user.
