Although there are a few threads out there with similar titles I have not found one that is specific to the T-mobile slide nor is there a step by step guide. So I have taken the liberty to post this here. Mods feel free to delete if this is a repeat on this particular forum or if there are any mistakes that need to be corrected.
First off DO NOT ask me any questions as I am a complete noob like many others out there. I give ALL the credit to DanFrance from Android Forums for putting this list. I did slight modifications to his instructions in order to suite our mytouch slides but that is it. He put in all the time and hard work.
If you would like to see his exact instructions please go here http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/158131-how-easily-remove-installed-system-apps.html. He used Android SDK and I was able to successfully remove aps without having to tap into it.
Disclaimer: I am in no way responsible if ANYTHING goes wrong with your phone. Follow instructions at your own risk and will. phew! With that out of the way, let's proceed.
Pre-requisites-
A. First off your phone MUST be rooted!
B. Very important, you need to feel comfortable using the command prompt. Although this is an idiots proof step by step guide some of us can feel a bit uneasy with that little black window.
C. You need ROM Manager with ClockWorkMod recovery flashed
D. You will also need a backup created with ROM manager (in case anything goes wrong you can revert back to the saved backup).
Now for the fun stuff!
NOTE: Commands must be typed exactly. Be careful you identify spaces.
1. Connect your phone via USB, open ROM manager and select Reboot into recovery (press OK when the small window pops up in your screen). You will see a black screen with a circle and an arrow on it. This will then change to a black screen with green menu options
2. Using the optical trackball to navigate the menu (or vol up and down), select (by pressing the trackball) Partitions menu
3. Then select mount /system
4. On your PC open Command prompt (Start>Run Type “cmd” [without the quotation marks] and press enter)
5. Type adb shell and press enter (this should give you a # sign)
6. Type cd /system/app and press enter
7. Type ls (the letter L ) and press enter, this lists all the system installed Apps.
8. Type rm AppName.apk (where AppName.apk is the application you want to remove) and press enter. Note: this IS case sensitive. Example rm Amazonmp3.apk
Repeat step 8 to delete all the apps you want. Be VERY careful and only delete what you don’t need. If you do not know what an app is for, DO NOT delete it.
Once you are done deleting:
a) Close the command prompt on your PC
b) Select unmount system on your phone.
c) On the phone, press back once to get back to the main menu.
d) Navigate to advanced and select it
e) Navigate to Wipe Dalvik Cache and select it.
f) Once complete, in the menu, press back until the top option is reboot system now. Select it.
You are done.
The reboot will take a long time as it will be creating the dalvik cache from scratch (just like when you install a new rom).
Now wasn’t that easy?!?! Now run along and enjoy your crap free phone.
Additional info:
Those of you who have managed to successfully delete apps on your phones (mytouch slides that is) without issues, would you be kind enough to share/recommend what you have removed? Your information will be of much help many of us. There are a few lists out there pertaining to other phones but I have not found one specific to the Espresso/mytouch Slide.
Here’s my list so far:
Amazonmp3.apk
AppPack2.0.apk
Music.apk (speaker)
mytouchmusic_1.1.5_13.apk
Faves.apk
FavesWidget.apk
Flickr.apk
Teeter_NoHTC.apk
VpnServices.apk
HtcTwitter.apk
com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
Checking these to see which one is giving me the app&sync error
NewsReader.apk
com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk
Stock.apk
com.htc.StockWidget.apk
FriendStream.apk
com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk
SocialNetworkProvider.apk
IM.apkIM.apk
There are a few things that I need clarification for:
1. what's the difference between lattitude and maps?
2. Car home and navigation
3. All calendar aks (3 total)
4. All the weather aks (5 total)
Cheers!

The master makes an appearance! I was about to send you the link
This is great. There is a page on the cyanogen wiki about making a barebones rom but most people don't know that so it's good to have it here. Not to mention we've all found out over time that the slide operates a bit different than the norm sometimes.
There is a super easy way to delete them without adb. Does it in one click, but it's super special and I'm not talking
Actually I don't want to turn attention away from your thread. It's good learning material for noobs I'll PM it to you if you want to know arcybarrios.

1. Latitude is a social function for google maps - if you don't know what it is, you don't need it and it's safe to delete.
2. Car home is like an alternate UI you can use while you're driving. Very basic and big buttons. It's safe to delete.
3. I'll look into the calendar and weather apk's.It's been awhile since I've messed with a sense ROM.

I tried deleting via Root Explorer toggling r/o to r/w and that didn't work (and it was actually pretty easy). I also tried Titanium and that didn't work either....Soooo I was left out in the cold pretty much until a kind bright soul (danfrance) thought of the step by step idiot proof tutorial lol
Please do share which other method is out there that you consider easy. This tut my not be everyones cup of tea and so if you have something that is 101 for idiots then by all means

As far as latitude and maps, I find them the exact same (when I click on each) so I am not sure which one to delete. Will deleting latitude affect the "check-in" on facebook?
As for the Car home app, so this and Navigation are exactly the same? Being the only difference of visual preference?
You need to be S-OFF on the desire to mount /system/app as r/w, otherwise the apps reappear.
How is s-off achieved on the Slide?

S-off is not available on the Slide yet, but it's being worked on. There's a thread for it in the dev section if you'd like to check the status.
@ the OP, I suggest a couple of revisions.
1. Most who have rooted their phones would already know this, but in case someone doesn't know, you need to download the android SDK from google, and then in command prompt navigate to your android SDK tools folder, for example, for me, my android sdk is in my downloads folder. So I would type cd C:\users\ryan\downloads\android\android-sdk_r06-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools and THEN do adb shell, so on and so forth. If you just start command prompt and type ADB it won't recognize ADB as a command. Command prompt needs to be navigated to the same directory as adb.exe for it to work. Like I said, most people who root their phones would know this, but some noobs may not.
2. I also suggest adding a little bit of linux terminal 101 info- to list all the files in any directory, in this case, /system/app, once in shell mode, type ls and hit enter and it will list out all directories and files in your current location, in this case the APK's.
3. On some computers, including one of mine, if you do not eject or "safely remove" the sd card in my computer before unmounting usb storage in your phones recovery, it causes an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen on your computer. Just a heads up. So before unmounting or doing ANYTHING in recovery, unmount the sd card from your computer first, THEN unmount usb storage on your phone. This has prevented blue screens for me. Like I said, it only happens on some computer chipsets.
Great post overall though, if it isn't already stickied it should be stickied.

Hi musicman! Although I have Android SDK installed on my computer, I personally didn't need to tap into it to delete files BUT that is why I made mention of it and included the original link of where I found the step by step process. Danfrance includes the sdk procedure in his tutorial. As soon as I opened the command prompt I typed adb shell and continued with the steps successfully.

Well not much is needed, lots of commands are the same between windows and linux, but "ls" can be useful, it's the equivalent of "dir" in windows. That's probably the only thing that would be useful for this, so you could list out all of the apps in the app directory to get the exact name.
And that's odd, I have to CD to the directory that adb is in to run adb, otherwise it won't work. Maybe I did something wrong when downloading it, I suppose I could just throw adb.exe into my user directory. Great tutorial overall though
The car home app actually has nothing to do with navigation and latitude will not have any effect on the checkin service.
I'll PM you the easy way to delete these things and you can post it in the OP if you want to. S-OFf is required to delete apps while the phone is booted normally, this is done while the phone is off.

No, it's actually off because it doesn't require the phone for the first part.
For the guy that wanted the Linux commands:
Obviously, to find the apps:
Code:
ls /system/app/
Code:
ls /data/app/
Packages:
Code:
pm list packages
This may be needed before proceeding:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /system
To remove /system apps:
Code:
rm -f /system/app/<apk name>.apk
pm uninstall <package name>
For apps in data just replace /system/ with /data/

hello
when i want to install a new rom
can i remove without any risk from the system directory all the apps and widgets i never use (such as facebook, flickr, etc...) before installing the rom ?
thank you
I would like to know this too... apparently there are some "adb commands" you can use??
Thanks
youll have to resign zip file after, otherwise installation will be interupted due to missing files.
2nd way to get rid from these apps is to remove them using adb, after installation

Can you please post instructions how to do this one?
Thanks
1.boot to modified recovery
2.connect to pc
3.adb shell
4.mount /system
5.cd /system/app
6.ls -this will list all your apps installed, chack it and:
7.rm Facebook.apk (for example) case sensitive!
or
rm *Facebook* -this will remove everything connected to Facebookdex files, widgets, etc...
Yes you can remove files from a .zip before flashing. Just delete them. Then just before you flash, disable verification in the custom recovery. It will flash and ignore any errors about missing files!
i guess this option exists only in clockworkmod recovery?
im using amonra, so do not know about that
there is in amonra recovery too.......
I like to freeze apps with Titanium Backup. Works like a charm.
but you have to have donation version for that
verification in amonra recovery - how is it looks like there? I've just checked again - found nothing...
@Vice83 and anyone else whose interested
How I removed stock apps using SDK
I've had my HTC Desire for 2 weeks (T-Mobile UK, Eclair 2.1)). I'm a newbie to all of this. I spent untold hours on forums and other Android sites, and managed to do Nandroid backup of my phone, and then successfully rooted it (using Unrevoked and a SLAX (Linux) bootable cd). It was really straight forward.
I then installed the AdamG/OpenDesire Sense Froyo v1.0c custom ROM
I then wanted to remove apps that I know I don't need and will never use. There are many online guides on how to do this but, maybe it was me being very dumb, but none of them seemed to work for me. After many more hours reading forums etc I found that all the guides I had read missed out KEY actions\information.
So I've put this together from all the things I've learned from the forums etc. I'd like to give credit \ thanks to all of those who contributed to Android sites, forums etc which provided me with all the info I needed.
!!!!THE FOLLOWING IS WHAT I DID TO REMOVE APPS FROM MY (rooted) T-MOBILE HTC DESIRE - IT WORKED FOR ME - BUT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU CREATE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!!! AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!
I installed Java and the Android SDK on an old laptop as I don’t want Java on my main desktop \ laptop.
I then created an Android folder on my pc (C:\Android)
I then copied the following folders from the "android-sdk-windows" folder into it
· Tools
· USB_DRIVER***
· Market-Licensing
*** The default drivers didn't work on my pc\laptop (Win 7 Ultimate, 64bit) so I extracted the drivers contained in a adb_driver_htc.zip file was posted on the My HTC Desire site to the USB folder and successfully installed the driver(s).
With my phone switched on, and in Disk Drive mode, I connected it to my pc with the usb cable. If the phone drivers are not installed / found
· Go to Device Manager.
· Right click on the device that represents your phone.
· Select "update driver software".
· Select "browse my computer for driver software".
· Browse to the C:\Android\usb_driver folder (or to wherever our usb_drivers folder is located, and make sure the "include subfolders" box is ticked).
· Click Next etc to install driver(s).
To test that the drivers were installed and the phone recognised by my pc I
· Opened a command prompt window (Start-run-cmd) and typed the following (don’t include the text in the brackets).
· CD\ (enter\return).
· CD\Android\tools (enter\return).
· adb devices (this listed my phone as HT******SS Recovery).
To exit from adb type EXIT at the “#” prompt. This takes you back to C:\Android\tools directory. Type EXIT to close the command prompt window
Safely remove \ eject the phone from the pc and disconnect the usb
Switch off the phone, and re-start it in Recovery mode by
Holding down the "volume-down" button and pressing power button.
Use " volume-down " button to highlight Recovery.
Press POWER to reboot. Phone will start in Recovery mode i.e. green text on black background.
Still in Recovery mode, connect phone to Computer via the usb cable.
On the pc, open a command prompt window
Type CD\ and press enter\return
Type CD\Android\tools and press enter/return
Type adb shell and press enter/return
On the phone, use the trackball to highlight Partition Menu and press trackball to select.
Use the trackball to highlight Mount /system and press trackball to select. This bypasses the need for the following adb command: mount –o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system - a command which caused me no end of grief!!!
In the windows command prompt window, type cd /system/app
Type ls –a to get a listing of all the *.apk files in the /system/app directory.
To remove an app type rm appname.apk (where appname is the name of the app to be removed – this command is case sensitive so you must type the app name exactly as it appears in the /system/app directory)
I’ve removed the following apps with the above method without any ill effects, and they no longer appear in my Applications list, or in the system/app directory.
Plurk, FaceBook, Stocks (and com.htc.StockWidget.apk), Twitter, Quick Office and YouTube
From what I’ve read, its not advisable to remove any of the Google apk files due to dependencies etc. People have also reported problems after deleting News, PicoTts and Weather apk’s / widgets – so I’ve left these alone. I’ve not been able to find a definitive list of stock apps that are safe to remove
Anyhoo, I hope this proves useful.

Hey guys, I checked my apps2sd and it seems to be working fine, here are the symlinks:
dalvik-cache -> /system/sd/dalvik-cache
app-private -> /system/sd/app-private
app -> /system/sd/app
However when checking the Settings page, "Internal phone memory" is still showing 115mb free, and it was 129mb free when I flashed the rom 2 hours ago. Why aren't the apps installing to the SD card as they should? Can someone plz help?
EDIT: Now it's 108mb after I installed another 2 apps. Whats going on?
Hey guys, I'm using Fresh 3.1.0.2 and I was wondering what I need to uninstall to remove weather from "accounts and sync." Also, would removing it affect Fancy widget's built in weather?
Also, if I uninstall the apps using TI backup, is there anything else I need to do, such as deleting the APKs w/ root explorer?
Thanks!
If you just want to keep it from syncing, you can just uncheck the box next to it. If you don't want to have it show up at all, you can just delete the apk from /system/app. I don't remember the exact name but it should have weather in the name. I don't think it breaks anything major, but then again, removing parts of Sense like that is kinda like playing roulette. Its all integrated, so you never know for sure until after you've done it. I recommend making a copy of it before you remove it as a backup. Then you just have to push the file exactly as its named back to the folder and reboot.
Here's the exact steps you can take:
From your computer:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
ls
Note: You only need to run su if you have a $ instead of a # when you run adb shell. Otherwise, you can skip su.
This is where you can look for the necessary app. like I said, I don't remember the name, but a list will show up in your console.
Code:
exit
exit
Note: if you didn't have to use su before, exit only once, or you'll exit your command prompt/terminal
Now in your console:
Code:
adb pull /system/app/<name of weather apk> \backup\
adb shell rm /system/app/<name of weather apk>
If you are using linux, replace \backup\ to /backup/. You can also make this any directory you want to use to keep the backup file in.
To put the apk back later:
Code:
adb remount
adb push \backup\<name of weather apk> /system/app
If you have any questions about the steps, let me know.

EDIT- com.htc.bg is the process that FCs
Requires Root
From your Phone:
1.
You can use/ download Root Explorer from the Android Market which costs ..
$3.79
In Root explorer:
Make sure you select R/W (read and write) to get out of R/O (read only) mode at the top of Root Explorer
Push menu ->Search->Search Term
ex. "SprintTV.apk" ->
Delete results that have the search term in it.
2.
Or use Sdx Stock app remover
This app can be downloaded and installed to any phone With Root. It has been tested and has been proven to work on many phones. There have been mention of some issues - please post if you do encounter problems.
Purpose:
It can be used to backup and remove any of the stock apps found in /system/app/. There's also a feature that will allow you to control whether /system/ is mount read/write (see settings->Auto mount)
Simply select all apps you want to delete... it will ask for SU permissions ...
3.
Third method is the good old ADB Method ...
Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed on your PC.
They should be available to download directly from Samsung Shortly at this Webpage:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D710ZKASPR
Install drivers make sure USB debugging is on then connect it to your computer..
Make sure you have the Android SDK installed for adb shell on your computer.

I've seen several posts and reviews that say you are allowed to remove all Sprint bloatware through the normal Applications manager. No root needed.

This, coupled with unlocked bootloader, is fantastic. Samsung, and to a smaller extent Sprint, deserves some love for these decisions.
If they come through on the consumer phones they absolutely do. I hope that Samsung does stick with this.

Nice! lol
Now we just need root!!!
I use System App Remover from the market which not only will remove system apps (if rooted) but has an "assisst mode" which color codes all the system apps according to their risk of removing.
What's up XDA?
I've been messing around with my Xperia Play and i successfully got it rooted. My next task is to get all the annoying icons and processes that are running in the background deleted to make my phone run like a champ (Also i just like the clean appearance of only the applications that i use in my menu, perhaps OCD).
With that said i have tried a few different ways to get my system folder writeable but nothing seems to work as I am unable to delete anything in that folder.
My questions are the following:
1) How to delete files out of this folder.
2) Is there a way to do this via computer so i don't have to mess around with an explorer application on my phone.
Thanks for the help thus far everyone!

You can delete system apps with adb. Here are some commands you may find useful:
"adb remount" - This will remount /system/ as R/W.
"ls /system/app/" This will list all the .apk's in /system/app/
"rm /system/app/***.apk" - this will delete the specified .apk file.
Thanks for the help.
I was able to get the abd to list out all the files in the apps folder but when i type adb remount it gives me an error saying "remount failed: Operation not permitted"
Any tips?

It's because you do not have insecure adb. Download and install this .apk. after install run it, and your device will reboot. You now have insecure adb and can remount /system/. also once installed you can uninstall app

Hello,
I've created a simple .bat file which can be run from a Windows computer while your phone is booted into TWRP to remove various apps that I consider bloat. I have not encountered any issues in my usage the past week, but your usage pattern may vary. This is tested on a G8142 running Oreo 47.1.A.5.51, but there is no reason it should not work on other versions. This is limited to Windows, but the commands are all ADB-specific and have nothing to do with Windows, so it should also work on Mac & Linux by changing the file extension. I take no responsibility if this messes up your phone! But, all changes this script makes can be reversed by flashing system & oem with Newflasher.
Note: This script will remove Sony Home! Please make sure you have an alternate launcher installed or remove that app from the script!!! Additionally, the app removes Google Messages, Sony Clock, Sony Calendar, Chrome, Sony Email, Gmail, Google, various international keyboard layouts, and Text-to-speech functionality. All of these, or alternatives, can be re-installed through the Play Store though.
To Modify:
The .bat file can be modified by opening with any text editor. All apps are labeled with their name, as below:
::Google Messages
adb shell rm -rf /system/app/Messages
adb shell rm -rf /data/user/0/com.google.android.apps.messaging
To prevent this app from being uninstalled, just delete those lines.
To add an app that is not on the list, use an app such as App Inspector to find the directory the app is installed to and the directory its data is located in, then add those to the list as below:
adb shell rm -rf <app Source Dir, excluding last /******.apk>
adb shell rm -rf <app Data Dir>
In some instances, such as if the app has been updated from the Play Store, you may need to remove it from /data/app/ and from /system/app/ (or /system/priv-app) as below:
::Sony What's New
adb shell rm -rf /system/priv-app/sonyentrance2-release
adb shell rm -rf /data/app/com.sonymobile.entrance*
adb shell rm -rf /data/user/0/com.sonymobile.entrance
The * above is used as a wildcard, meaning that any folder that matches everything before the * will be deleted. This is needed because random strings of letters and numbers are added to the end of the app name when installed to /data/app/. Please be careful with your * use, since using something like "adb shell rm -rf /data/app/com.sonymobile.*" would clear out several apps' data!
Instructions:
Power down the device
Reboot into TWRP by holding Power and Volume Down (phone must not be plugged into computer yet)
Attach phone to computer
Unzip JunkCleaner.zip (this is not a flashable zip!) and extract JunkCleaner.bat
Move JunkCleaner.bat to a folder that contains adb.exe
Double click on JunkCleaner.bat and let run to completion
You're all set!
Known Issues:
Swiftkey may force close on you, to fix this, clear the cache from Settings -> Apps & notifications -> App Info -> Swiftkey Keyboard -> Storage -> Clear Cache
You will see a notification that com.sonymobile.rcahandler has force closed when you first boot the phone. This can be fixed by turning on Ultra Stamina mode, turning it off, then rebooting a second time after Ultra Stamina Mode has already rebooted your phone.
To Return to Stock/Reinstall any apps:
To get back to stock, just use Newflasher to reinstall system & oem partitions. This will restore all apps that this script removes.
Please let me know if there are any apps that you have safely removed that are not in my list, as I'm sure the amount of apps can be whittled down even further.
just what i needed. thank you!
and what about those system apps like basic sleep mode and crash monitor? doe they have any effect on phone after uninstalling? going to flash Oreo now and will use your debloater
Should not be any harm, no. The Basic Sleep Mode Apps are for Android's Screensaver (under Settings -> Display -> Screen Saver), which is a bit useless without an AMOLED display since it will just kill your battery. The Crash Monitor is used by Sony for getting diagnostic info in case of a crash, but we're out of warranty by unlocking the phone, so no real effect there either.
UPDATE:
just flashed this on nougat. successfully removed all apps specified. i edited the script and excluded xperia home, album and music. works as expected. maybe you can try to find more useless apps that doesnt do anything but hog up the Ram and battery.
UPDATE 2:
used this on Oreo and everything is also good there. however, there are some apps that cannot be uninstalled either from root uninstallers or by deleting their folder. maybe you can add these apps to the junkcleaner :
Audio settings (clear audio+ DSEE etc)
com.qualcomm.qti.telephonyservice (tell me if it is important to keep)
download manager (guess its important to keep)
home network (tell if important to keep)
shell (tell if imp)
software update app (probably not used since unlocked bootloader, other apps can be updated from playstore)
wap push (tell if needed to keep)
will be even more thankful
much respect from me
For anyone that doesn't want to use this but still want to easily debloat many apps at once.
Titanium Backup has an (un)installer feature which lets you pick all the apps you want and then hit (un)install.

It may be that because Amazon Prime Video is located in the /oem partition rather than /system/app or /system/priv-app, Titanium Backup does not have code to grant write access to that directory, though I have not tested myself. Even then, the benefit of this script is that it saves you from having to manually delete ~50+ apps each time a monthly patch comes out.

Glad it's working well for you! I'll take a look at removing some of those and try and update the package later tonight. Fairly certain that telephonyservice and shell are both required by Android, but will see if any of the rest can be taken out.

You don't to manually delete apps, you can just quickselect and hit uninstall, you can also do schemes etc.
Anyway, thanks for the script regardless! Options are always nice.

I use system app remover from the store. Works pretty well and it's quick for multiple uninstalls
Can you make a TWRP flash version of your script, I think its a lot easier if its done that way.
[MM / N] [UB] [COMBINED] System/OEM Debloat Script - v1.7
Also take a look at this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...lopment/mm-n-oem-debloat-script-v1-0-t3527866
@gerald.mrrsn
Sorry to hear it was giving you troubles! I have a flashable version that you can try that's attached to this post.
@Patrck744
New flashable is attached!
I've attached a new flashable version of the script to this post--just stick it on your phone and flash in TWRP. I've added a few more apps to it compared to my original script and have also improved deletion of apps which may have been updated. I'm still planning to add more apps to the list and will update the main post with instructions on modifying the flashable zip and update the original .bat file once I've done some testing on removing additional apps.
Thanks, you're doing good work!
I tried uninstalling majority of the junk using TitaniumBackUp but I just got a bootloop. I'll test it and let you know if there are any issues with flashable version.
Hi Guys,
Do you think this would also work on the normal Xperia XZ F8331?
