Heya all,
so having just found that I can go online on my phone by connecting to my PC, I tried downloading a load of stuff. A couple of things show on my phone, but a large number simply aren't on the phone. When I select it on Zune on my PC, it tells me that it's already installed, even if I check what I have downloaded in settings; but in spite of this, they simply aren't showing up on Xbox Live on my phone :/
Can anyone help me out here please?
Alex

I can't; I'm waiting for a rebel sim to arrive so that I can use my T-mobile sim, so currently my phone has no sim in it. Thus, a wired connection to my PC is the only way for me to get online on it.
wire connect the phone... hit market place on the phone, if you see the little thing saying something about connected or syncing, close zune on the pc, click close on the phone, go back to market place, and keep trying till the zune sync thing disappears. once this is done, then you can browse the market place via the phone.

So... No idea what's happened, but today I can no longer sync my phone with my Win7 laptop. So far I've deleted the partnership on my phone & in the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC.) Then I uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC. The error I'm seeing in the Event Viewer:
Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code).

I'm at a loss here. I've never had a problem syncing my phone before. I've been syncing it regularly with this laptop & my home pc for months. The only thing I've done lately is install CoPilot8.
I can see the M$ Windows Mobile Remote Adapter show up under 'Network Adapters' in the device manager. Should anything else show up? Any ideas? I've been reading up on this error message for ages now and nothing's working for me. I really don't want to do a hardreset, but I will if I can't find anything else to try.

This is the only thing I've found that might be relevant...according to the posts it seems to be caused by a conflicting driver issue, there's a solution suggested there that seemed to work for some...

Good luck!
I saw that page.. nothing marked in Device Manager. I did remove the phone and the windows mobile remote adapter and reinstalled them both. Device manager updates appropriately when the phone is plugged in, but it's like active sync is broken. On the pc it will search for like 1 second, then go back to Not Connected, and on the phone I just see the into page in Active Sync "To syncronize your device..."

Darn, I had hoped that was one you hadn't stumbled across yet. The only other suggestion I might have is trying different ports on the PC, or a different cable maybe..? Sometimes when I'm using the cheap cable I keep at work for syncing, I have to reseat it a couple of times before ActiveSync will kick in and make the connection.
God I hate windows. I completely removed WMDC and the update to it, then rebooted. Reinstalled and now it's syncing. Good lord.
ETA: Is there a unix-based tool for syncing WM phones? I am seriously considering reloading this stupid laptop with Ubuntu.
Well hell. It got stuck while syncing, so I stopped it, disconnected and reconnected my phone, and now it's back to not connecting anymore. Grrr.
If its only happening on your work pc...
try disabling firewall and connectiong it... if that works... you will have to open some ports for mobile center(or activesync) to work with firewall turned on...
I didn't have a firewall on it, but god only know what the Enterprise McAfee was doing. I gave up on that stupid Windows load. Installed Ubuntu. It's sad when a non-windows OS is more reliable at talking to my Windows phone than Windows7.
hmm yea thats sad...
Hi. I'm running a TouchFLO 3.0 ROM tp2 from Tmobile. Recently, without reasonable cause, manila stopped launching on soft reset. The ONLY way I can get it to load every time I soft reset is opening file explorer, going to the windows folder [which takes a good 3 minutes to load], and launching manila.exe. I haven't added or removed any programs in over 2 weeks, and it started today. Any one have any ideas besides backing up and hard resetting?
EDIT: Everything's running sluggish too.
EDIT x2: And after manually launching manilla, I'm missing my task manager button in the upper right.
sounds like as good of a reason as any to back up your contacts etc and do a hard reset. Especially if the phones being sluggish
It won't connect through ActiveSync. How do I back up all that stuff?
either use PIM backup or Microsoft MyPhone
Those would both involve me connecting to the device to install the cab. Maybe someone could tell me why all of a sudden I can't connect to the device as well? It's almost like my device has a functionality virus. -.- There's never been a huge problem connecting before, but now it absolutely refuses. I keep getting the "To connect to this device, you need to have ActiveSync 4.5 installed" message, when I blatantly am running 4.5.

Think outside the box...use the phones wireless connection to do it or use bluetooth to connect with activesynch. This is an internet phone after all.

How? I really have no idea.
EDIT: Nevermind. Emailing it to myself. Will it need to be connected to use PIMbackup or MyPhone?
use myphone... it can back up everything you need and stores it online... you can download the cab from the marketplace right on your phone. It uses your windows live account.
That said.. you can also transfer stuff on and off your sd card right to your computer no? By taking the card out and physically putting it in a memory card reader.
Myphone uses the data or wifi connection to back everything up. Pim doesn't just backs it all up to your sd card. Regardless I can only recommend what I myself use which is outlook or myphone and since outlook is a no go since you cant connect it via activsync for some reason I guess myphone is what I recommend.
good luck
Thanks for the help guys. All went well.

Anyone have any experience with this?
From what I've read, if an app is over 20mb it will not download using the cellular data service and instead insist you use wifi, or plug in to the PC.
But what do you do when you do not have WiFi available? It says 'Connect to a Wi-Fi network or connect your phone to your PC to complete the download' - but it does nothing when it's plugged in to the computer. Can leave it plugged in to the PC, with it synced to Zune (or not) for 30 minutes and nothing happens to the download, even if it's initiated in Zune.
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I'm supposed to tell it to do when it's plugged in to the PC? When it's synced with Zune you can't access the marketplace on the phone, and there's no 'Download Status' in Zune. As far as I can tell, Zune's not trying to download the app.
Basically, I'm trying to use option B - 'or connect to a PC', as there is no Wi-Fi network at my home or for miles. I'm aware of the bug where you can start it on Wi-Fi and let if finish using cellular data, but I shouldn't have to drive 20 minutes to Starbucks every time I want to download a larger app when the error message even indicates there's another option.
Any Zune / WP7 gurus here that can help with this? I'm an Android guy and a little lost when it comes to Zune/WP7, it's my gf's phone
I think you just have to go to the item, long press to get to the context menu, and then hit retry. I don't think it automatically attempts again once the network connection changes.

Done that. With these large apps (over 20mb) it repeatedly does the same thing. It's got 3g the whole time - it just refuses to use it to download it using 3g. It will say pending for a moment when you hit retry, and then give that error until you connect it to WiFi, at which point you can retry and it will download. So far the only way I've successfully downloaded apps of this type (monopoly, need for speed, etc) is using a wi-fi connection at a public location.
I'm trying to figure out how to do it the other way the error message claims is possible - connecting it to a PC.
Yeah, I just spent some time trying it out with my wifi off. Doesn't seem to be cooperating...
May want to try the Windows Phone support Twitter tomorrow: http://twitter.com/#!/winphonesupport
There has to be a way, it would be pretty damn ridiculous if it actually required wifi.

Tweeted it just now w/ a link to this thread. But I'm not a twitter guy, I have an account, not really sure how it works and don't ever log in to it. So we'll see where that leads me.

If you dont hear anything from them, may want to try tomorrow during business hours.
You should be able to go into the marketplace via Zune and click on the app. Click to install and then it will instruct you to connect your device. It should download and install to the device. Give it ample time to do so as it's not immediate, of course.
At this time, Wifi is required to download apps bigger than 20MB.
I could never ever get an app to update via synching with the Zune software after many tries. I just had to do the download over Wifi.
What I got from my conversation from @WinPhoneSupport is that if you start the download on the phone (not through the Zune software on your computer), you MUST complete it using WiFi, even though the error message says 'or connect it to a PC'. They somewhat hinted that it's possible to download an app through the zune software on the PC, didn't really go into too much on that side of things, but also confirmed that there's no way to check the status of a download in the Zune software. Sooo, you're supposed to just plug in the phone, and blindly guess when the download is complete, and if you're wrong, you've got to go find a Wi-Fi network.
One thing you could try... no promises... but (at least on Zune HD) when you connect the device to your PC via a USB cable (but close the Zune software) the device will get an Internet connection from the PC. This is done via some USB standard whose name I can't remember. It only works if the Zune software is closed.
This might work on WP7 and give you phone an Internet connection via USB. You could then go to the downloads list on your phone, tap and hold on the download that's frozen, cancel it. And then search it again and try to download.

I tried that but when I closed Zune it started looking for drivers and couldn't find any. No clue where to download them. Windows 7 32bit.
With your phone connected to your PC, search for the app thru the Zune marketplace (on the PC). When you download it with the PC, it will go straight to your phone.
Tried that as well but since theres no download status theres no way to tell when the app Is finished/installed, no.way to tell how large the file is and if it is downloading at 2kbps or 250kbps,.so you've got to blindly guess when its done and lf youre wrong and disconnect it you've got to start all over.
Tried downloading the monopoly trial using that method on a pc w a 20mbps connection, no way to tell if it was even downloading, it just said it would appear on the phone shortly. After 20 min the phone was disconnected, checked the marketplace and monopoly was sitting there in downloads w the error message

yea im having trouble downloading Sims 3. I have the same problem. I thought I was the only person.
I have a HTC Touch Pro 2 (US Cellular) and trying to connect via USB to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OS. I have several times to install, uninstall, re-install and still no go. I found a few posting searching Google and nothing specific has help.
When plugging in cable, the phone is recharging. Unable to recognize or show up in Device Manager. I have successfully connect phone to PC by using Bluetooth but not able too at all with the USB cable. Tried several other cables and still same issues of not connecting.
I am sure it has something to do with drivers. however can't find any specific driver for the OS and Phone.
I have tried other combinations such as other USB ports, unchecking the box "Enable faster data synchronization" Reinstalling WMDC 6.1, uninstalling, rebooting, hard-reset, soft reset, etc.
So I am at the point of just throwing the phone across the room. I seem to recall about having problem another time and same issues, but was able to find solution. Unfortunately, not able to now. Please HELP!!

First, I edited your email out. That will surely get picked up by spambots, and you'll have a LOT of spam in your inbox.
Second, when you plug it in, you should see a popup on the phone in WinMo. Should give you a few choices, depending on ROM - choose "ActiveSync". If you don't get these choices, simply unplug-replug.
If you set it to "always" do something - like USB mass storage mode or something, you might have to modify the registry. I haven't used WinMo in so long, I don't even remember how to get it back to that menu which gives you the choices... I never check that box anyways, I always want to choose.
Thanks

It's on the phone.
Did you unplug/replug? If it doesn't pop up for me at first, I do this and it ALWAYS pops up...
UNLESS of course you've told it to "always" do something like USB mass storage - this is the piece I cannot remember how to setup...
What ROM are you on?

Hi guys,
I have had a frustrating time with my Sony Z5 Premium.
Got it on contract from a service provider. A few months in I started getting these weird network drops with little to no cellphone coverage unable to even make emergency calls. Took it back to the service provide where they sent it in and a few months later called me to say that I can come collect a new one, not really saying or telling me what was actually wrong with the old one.
The 2nd phone lasted a bit longer than the first but now the same network issues seem to have come back to I want to take it back to the service provider. Thing is though now that I want to plug it in to my PC to run the BackUp software so that I can save all pics, vids and personal data so that I can transfer it back onto a new device, for some reason the PC does not pick it up.
I am using the original USB cable supplied with the phone and when I plug it in to the PC it does charge the device but the drop down that allows one to either charge or use the FTTP service to transfer files option does not come up anymore. It just charges.
Been on the Sony website and they said make sure you using the original USB cable which I am, make sure I set the device to use FTTP when connecting to a PC (I cant do this as the option does not drop down). Then it says to restart the device and the PC to see if that works. Have done it multiple times, restarting the phone, even switching it off for a few minutes and turning it back on again, the same applies with the PC and still not allowing me to select FTTP. I have checked the USB port and it is working.
The phone itself is installed with the latest software updates and the PC's are all up to date as well
I there any other way to back up the data on the phone without going the USB route. I do not have uncapped data plan for home so uploading everything to onedrive or google drive is not an option.
I want to send the phone to service provider but not before I can remove and backup all my data.
Thanks in advance for the help
You really haven't told us much about the PC. What OS us it running? Are the proper drivers installed? Do you have a sdcard that you can back up to? If yes, why not use that?

1. the sony cable given sometimes keeps dropping connection so i am using samsung galaxy s3 data cable, but for charging i use sony usb cable only
2. before you connect to pc, make sure USB DEBUGGING is ON
3. Xperia COMPANION must be installed! in particular sa0107adb driver is for z3+ series and sa0103adb is for (sony Z,z1,z2 etc)
4. first connection must be made as MTP, later you may toggle cable in/out and connect as camera ptp
5. window10 has very poor connection pattern over android adb! so if its window7 its WOW, otherwise DISABLE digital signature verification on window10 in order to connect uninterrupted!
