All,
I am trying to update my rooted phone with the latest OTA patch from T-Mobile. The patch checks for some ODEX files and fails because I have removed them. I have tried copying in a "dummy" file with the required name, but the update looks to be using checksums so still fails.
Does anyone have the following they can email to me, so I can complete the update? I need:
Mobilbox_Pro_1.5.2.odex
Mediencenter_aligned_1135.odex
SIE_Bravo_TMI_Navigon.odex

rooted phones with custom recoverys cant flash ota updates anyway.....
Ah, but I can as I have the file downloaded and there is a workaround (maybe posted here on XDA) whereby you rename the downloaded OTA file (in /sdcard/download) to update.zip and move it to the root directory of the card.
I agree before that it would not run. But now the update does start to run. It just barfs when it gets to the missing files.
Any copies of the ODEX files will help me.

get hold of the ruu or the ota for your network and remove the .odex files from /system/app/
Can I extract the ODEX files from the RUU then. I need to have them on my phone's /system/app folder. The OTA does not have them as it is removing these files not installing.

yeah you need to extract the rom.zip from the ruu, unzip it and it will be in /system/app/
I think you may be screwed as there is no RUU file yet available, as far as I have been able to detect, for the Froyo T-Mobile UK distribution. All I have see are OTA updates from 2.1 to 2.2 and then the 2.2 update that "removed" the German applications.
Z.
I have seen a RUU titled:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_AT_2.12.112.1_Radio_32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2_release_143754_signed.exe
Could this be the one?
Or this one?
RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122755.exe
My phone is rooted using the Unrevoked method, with ClockworkMod Recovery. Will running the RUU confict with this?
I'm OK if it just means the phone goes back to unrooted. I can then start with 2.1 and do the OTA updates to get back to 2.2, then 2.2 without German apps, then re-root phone.
Or I guess I could use a stock 2.2 HTC Sense RUU and unbrand the phone?
Thanks for all the replies!
Debranded in the end...
All - thanks for the help. In the end I made a gold card, and RUUed the latest stock HTC Sense ROM which obviously also debranded the phone. So can keep current with HTC and now not worry about T-Mobile updates!

HTC EVO Software Update - 4.53.651.1
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text
- Image size issue with contact transfer over bluetooth
- Images cut off in Picasa
- Group contacts not in alphabetical order
- Out of memory, Unable to send SMS
Just wondering if anyone received the OTA and has it laying around and could post it, so the ROMs can be updated with these fixes (especially the first one!).
Also, does anyone know the method for applying an OTA to a previous stock ROM (not on the device), so that the patched files get appropriately updated? I've been wondering how that's done for a while. It's usually a while before the full ROM leaks, so I've always wondered how it's done. I bet xHausx would know . . . I wonder if you need Linux to do it?
I've been waiting for this as well. Voice recognition is a big one for me. Ninjawolf has been looking for a copy so he can do his thing and post it, but last I saw he had not been able to find one either.

I think I'm going to flash back to stock and see if I can get it that way (if no one else replies). Thanks for the info, though!
I am on stock and have not see it yet when I check under updates. Not sure if it would wreck root, but I was just curious to see if it was there.

Thanks for checking. It shouldn't S-ON your device, as I've read by the few that got it that it comes with the same HBOOT as the previous OTA (2.16). It might, however, take away root, though if it does, you'd just need to install Superuser.

Hopefully, with it out in the open now, we can get some updated stock ROMs!
(and have some updated drivers for our ports!)
Anybody know how to patch the files to the 4.24 ROM with this update?

You need to be S-OFF and have an old stock recovery. The new one will not let you update if not installing from over the air. Download the recovery that I attached to this post and change the name to PC36IMG. This recovery will only be used for the flash, and will then be replaced by the latest stock one.
Without being over detailed here,
Download the OTA from
http://www.mediafire.com/?bjxvuyc1mupcyzc
Then change the name of that file to update.
Copy both zip files (PC36IMG and update) to your SD card and install the PC36IMG file from your Bootloader.
After install, boot into RECOVERY. At the exclamation point, hold the volume up (not down) and power buttons at the same time. Then install update from SD card, or whatever it says.
Once you're done, you can always go to
http://www.mediafire.com/?gijd69zb5222w
to get your clockworkmod or Amon-RA back.
Hope that helps someone out there.

Yes, it does appear to definitely be the OTA. I've already downloaded and looked at it. I just don't know how to apply all of the patch files included therein.
Does this update fix/update the bluetooth stack?

I have some questions that I'm hoping to get verified.
I was previously on the Sprint unrooted stock 2.2 Froyo build and did the OTA 4.24.651.1 Android 2.3 update. Then I performed S-OFF using the Revolution developer preview tool followed by rooting the phone by installing SuperUser via Recovery. The only thing I've done since then is remove apps I didn't want.
Now this 4.53.651.1 OTA update came out, and I know I shouldn't try updating the rooted phone with it. I don't want to completely flash/wipe the phone either. I just want to learn of the way to update my rooted 4.24.651.1 to 4.53.651.1 while still retaining S-OFF and root.
Do the steps by shortydoggg in post #9 of this thread perform an update as opposed to a complete flash/wipe? And if so, will S-OFF and root be maintained?
Thanks in advance!
=====
Update:
Okay, so I restored the stock recovery according to post #9 of this thread. And continuing with the instructions in that post, I was able to install the linked 4.53.651.1 update file.
After that I lost root, but all it took was to run the Revolutionary tool again to get custom recovery back. Then I just flashed the Superuser ZIP file once more, rebooted, and everything was rooted again.
Now the phone still has S-OFF and it has 4.53.651.1 rooted.
Thumbs up!

Easier approach:
Download the already rooted copy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238959
Reboot into recovery.
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash update. (In CWM Install zip from SD Card > Choose Zip > browse to downloaded file > Install; likely similar in AR).
Optionally, download the new radio (Post #26 in same thread). Place that in the root of the SD card and reboot to the bootloader; it will install automatically.
Hello all,
I am a happy WFS user, with S-off, CWM, rooted, link2sd with ext3 partition.
I installed stock rom europe 2.13.401.3 recently and now I receive the message that a new update is available for the phone. I downloaded with Wi-fi bu when it tried to install it I have a screen with a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark inside. Removing the battery and restarting everything is fine.
Do you know why it is not working? What is the update about? can I get it somewhere else?
I checked in the stock ROM list and the last version is still 2.13.401.3.
Thank you for your help.
Personally, I wouldn't suggest you to do the OTA since you have an S-OFF. You could brick your phone.
Why not try any of these fast and beautiful custom ROM's?
Don't update! You can't root it.
Well you can install superuser but no root apps get granted permision.
Trust me.

but the update comes with hboot 1.09.0099, an unlockable hboot. so it shouldn't be that problematic.
thank you for your help guys. I won't take the risk, I've disabled the updates . I didn't know it was dangerous, I thought I was safe with stock ROM.
I found the .zip file downloaded for the update and apparently it is the 2.14 firmware.

nope, the update is standard. please upload the zip file (from sd card, I assume). thank you.
The reason you did not get the update to work is that it requires the stock recovery to flash it. That big exclamation mark is the phone saying that the stock radio is not there and it doesn't know what to do. If you flash the update like you would a rom I would imagine you would be fine but best check the files inside First. Worst case scenario your rom stops working, and at minimum you'll lose root.

Is it possible to disable OTA updates? I'm routed and don't wasn't to update to the newest OTA but my phone I'd pestering me and I don't know if the update will install without me telling it to. I know roms don't have to deal with updates so can I do something to disable the OTA?
I think you gotta freeze fota.client.apk and fwupgrade with TiBu...someone else maybe able to confirm..

Freeze or remove all three of the apk packages that start with wssync, as well as the FWUpgrade.apk in /system/app. To safely remove and back them up, just rename the .apk extensions to .bak
Then, if you want updates at a later time, you just rename the extensions to .apk
If an update has already downloaded, and your phone was prompting you to install it, you can remove the update file from /cache/fota. The update file has a .cfg file extension. By the way, if you ever want to pull the update off your phone for other purposes, pull it to your PC and replace the .cfg file extension with .zip. You then have a zip file from which to extract the latest update.
Thanks. Worked great. I'll update when a real update happens.

Now obviously anyone on these forums knows the deal here, if it's flashable it's risky, but this raises some flags that need addressed.
This is for the AT&T yes? If I'm not mistaken, this device has a locked bootloader, so then it goes without saying that your custom recovery flash only is untested. So is the expectation that users here are supposed to test it?
This is only the stock update put in a zip, then I cleaned some of the updater. This way if your on stock kitkat with custom recovery you can take the ota. There's zero risk here other than what Samsung messed up. I assumed it would be obvious we can use them yet because of not having root. I've done this a lot for several devices it's crazy easy to do,and you only need to change its zip and clean the updater.

Hello XDA,
I very recently got an HTC 10 and the 1st thing I did was install TWRP and root the phone using SuperSU. I completely forgot about firmware updates since those were rare on my old phone (HTC one m8).
Now, the problem I face is that I can't receive OTAs anymore since my recovery is modified.
My questions are:
Are OTAs worth to get? Do they significantly improve the phone's behaviour? The 1st OTA (1.21 > 1.30) is said to improve phone and wifi stability as well as camera. Is it that significant?
How should I go about installing OTAs now? Should I flash them?
Thank you!
1. yeah OTA are worth to get, mostly.
2. I'm doing it by : - restoring system image and boot, then flashing proper stock recovery, then manually updating OTA via file on SD, and after that back to TWRP and SuperSU. But this will only work for stock rom.
Thank you, the problem is that I can't find the proper stock recovery anywhere. I'd need the 1.21 european version and I couldn't find it anywhere
To get OTA upgrade, I use the following method:-
Disable security
Full Nandroid
Flash RUU (to get firmware)
Flash TWRP
Restore Nandroid
Enable security (pin/pattern)
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Should be able to received OTA, right? just can't install it using TWRP recovery.
I copy the OTA firmware file from /data/data/com.htc.updater/files to external microSD card then move to PC.
extract the firmware.zip, recovery.img is in there, then its just a process of flashing to HTC recovery.
It works for my M7, sort of work for the last 1.95.400.3 to 1.90.400.4 update. What I mean is system is update to 1.90.400.4 but I did see a warning triangle with exclamation mark, this is the first OTA update I experience, don't know if this is normal.
Don't see any issue after update so I guess it work.
BTW, I use ES explorer with root access; WinRAR to extract the recovery cause 7zip can't.
