Hello Everyone,
Ok, finally after 3 year i planned to upgrade to Hermes or AT&T 8525 handset from Imate PDA2K. As we all know there is some kind of excitement in trying every new handset. I already tried windows mobile 6 on Pda2k handset. But, one thing i noticed is that most of the people in my city are crazy of windows mobile handset. They like windows mobile handset very, very much. I know every one have it's own usage some are using in downloading files, some to browse internet.
I opened this topic to know that how you get most out of your Hermes Handset? How you save time by using it? How you enjoy time using it? and such more...
Please, also share information about the softwares that you use to get best out of it.
I hope this will definately help new comers to know how they get most out of there Windows mobile handset.
Thank you.
i use my tytn for gps in the car, text messaging (love the keyboard ), make calls, browse the web & messenger from my bed. Sometimes i use it as an mp3 player^^ and of corse, to manage my agenda and contacts
Hmm
As I have only had my jasjam for a month I am STILL exploring, I use them for what ever you mentioned up there, only for the GPS part which has been tested to work on my ROM by the chef, and works.
I too am interested in this topic that you have brought up, so I am subscribing.
I've only had my Dopod 838Pro a couple of days so I have a great interest in this topic also. I already use it for phone calls, texting and MP3 player. I will most likely use it a little for web browsing/email but only while I'm on-the-run kinda thing. At home I prefer the comfort of my computer room as I have a 44" screen that seems to be a little nicer to look at things on than the tiny Hermes screen lol.
I also will use it for time management/reminders/appointments but I'm not certain what else I can or will use it for. I just bought a DVD full of different programs and utilities for WM so I could play with them all and see what I find useful.
I think I also just like the idea of tinkering with different ROM's and tweaking things once I get over the fear of bricking lol.
As posted HERE ... but add Playstation 1 Gaming with FPSCE (still struggling with that one), First Person shooting with DukeNukem and gFDoom, GoogleMapping, etc...
PS,
I think this would go better in the Hermes\Hermes forum, not the mobile 6
I have the AT&T 8525, and I use mine mostly for email, sms, internet browsing, games, making calls, mp3 player, bluetooth, updating ROMs, etc...just about anything really
I use mine for push-mail, e-mail, sms, web browsing but not with IE, contacts management and GPS.

I hear from someone that sometimes the keyboard of it hangs during typing. Is this true? And how long your battery last?

no, it does not have a tv-out like Nokia N95, but the new devices from HTC -like Raphael- does.

Which software you use for the reminders?
im used to setting stuff in calendar and using pocketbreeze(today plugin) to show what i need to do the next few days
so everytime i turn my screen on i have it in my face...
It is in general alot smother, and I have not had it crash once!
The Marketplace is much better, no crashing, its always slick, doesnt hang while loading more apps in the list, and the new way of searching is much better.
(However I cannot find a few apps, I assume they have been removed from the marketplace, for example MusicShark?)
Copy and Paste works quite well, took me a few tries to realise the paste section is where the text correction area is.
Faults I have noted so far are...
1. Not sure if it is just me because I have only tried once so far, but after pairing with my car headunit. My car headunit no longer detects the HD7 as a bluetooth audio streaming device, and only as a handsfree device. Which is very annoying.
2.When pressing search in internet explorer, it no longer loads a web page, but loads the bing application.
Overall, it makes the phone even nicer to use, it just feels that bit more responsive, and it way more stable!
Has anyone else used NoDo, who can confirm the above faults?
I am running it on an O2 UK HD7 with 32gb.
UPDATE: after 1 days usage
Im finding reception better, battery seems to be a bit better too. Still not had one thing crash on me.
Bluetooth audio streaming does work, however its still low quality like it was in 7004/7008, so I cant wait to unlock it again so I can change the registry entry.
Audio streaming still does not work for playing videos.
Push notification seem to work fine all the time now too, I had problems initially getting them to work on some applications (they would work after trying a few times/restarting) but now they just work.
I havent had chance to check for hidden wireless networks yet, the WiFi menu seems identical though (There is nothing to manually type in any settings.)
Overall, it feels now like how I would have expected the phone to feel when I first got it. Everything it does, it does it really well, and it is a pleasure to use.

That's how it's supposed to be.
I can remember a branded T-Mobile ROM where you've been redirected to a stupid search website after pressing the search-button but the standard action is opening BING.
We have three devices in this house hold, a HD7, 7 Mozart and a HD2 with Windows Phone 7, obiously the HD2 hasn't been released yet but the other two are much more reliable. I haven't had a single screen tearing on the HD7 since the update and both phones are much more responsive especially within internet explorer where I used to have numerous crashes.
Copy and paste works lovely although on occasion I have to tap a couple of times for it to pop up the option to copy.
Marketplace is more reliable and stable than the original RTM build and the search changes are greatly welcomed.
I haven't really noticed a change in speed loading application, although the only program I have ever had issues with is Bejewelled Live which takes quite a while to load even after the update.
All running nice and smoothly, just missing having Chevron WP7 to copy over my ringtones.
Just tried Bluetooth again, it works fine
I'm glad it shows the bing app instead of Yahoo search like it did before. Its just I expected it to load the bing web page
So all in all I find it perfect now, just need some sideloading back
You Guys receive the Official NoDo update or did you Flash the leak ROM. I'm Glad to hear that its a STABLE Update & Didn't cause any problem, otherwise this general form will be flooded w/ cry babies.
And what about connecting to hidden wifi networks and sound output while playing videos while using a bluetooth headset?

Good call - and not just watching video through the headset but using the headset's button to initiate Voice Commands and the headset's microphone to talk the command into.
Just posted a quick update.
I am using the non-goldcard flashed method of getting NoDo, it was nice and easy to do

After almost half year and MS still can't get this obvious bug to fix. The next update (Mango) will take another half year, and MS is totally silenced when it will get resolve (and who knows if that would be delay too base on MS's current pace). I am totally sick of it and finally have to leave the MS mobile camp after 10+ yrs relationship with MS (my 1st PPC device is iPaq 2210 and my last would be Samsung Focus).
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using Board Express
I have to say one thing, some apps really do load faster!! Max and the magic marker used to take an age to load. Now it seems to load in less than half the time.
I wonder if the delays to the update were due to manufactures including bug fixs for specific phones, which means following updates shouldn't be delayed
Is scrolling in 3rd-party apps better (i.e. not lagging like it is now)?
Not really, I feel like it might have improved slightly... but that might just be because I want it to feel faster lol
i also had some first Impressions of my new nodo
new voice command sound, also understands me very good now.
new htc theme color (nice green)
mozart camera has autofous now (kinda annoying does anyone else have sound feedback, like clicky sound?)
but it does great pictures now, 2 shoots, both perfect, maybe it was luck but it seems it working way better now..
autofocus in video has improoved alot, also recording quallity has greatly improoved in low light and its more stable it seems! yay!
office version 14.0
sharepoint workspace mobile 14 , is that new?
overall its breezing fast, you press it, it opens. awesome!

Where were you when Apple and Apple fanboys were bashing MS non stop. Nowhere. And now all you do is complain.
You should have been more supportive of MS before. You should have help defend then and spread the word.

The reason some third party apps lag is because they're badly coded, so no OS update in the world will fix this.
After about a month, I finally got it. Uploading my library now, probably going to max out my storage .
Anyone have any hints, tips or tricks on things that can be done with Google Music?
my learning
If you use an AT&T Microcell the Ping delay will go through the roof while uploading and will impact your ability to make calls.
On my 3G iPhone it appears that a song is playing fine but you can't hear. You need hit the pause button on the player and then play button so you can hear a song. Frankly Google Music doesn't work very well on my iPhone.
If you found any tip sites I'd like to know them.
I got an invite 8 days ago & just barely started uploading my music yesterday night. I've got the app for my Epic running SRF 1.1.1 & it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it might have something to do with the phone's modem? I'm not sure, but I'm only seeing the music on my SD. I checked my settings in the app & it is connected to my account, but it won't display the uploaded music at all. Damn it!

I had the same issue with the app. I had it installed before I received my invite. Simply uninstalled and reinstalled google music on my phone. Issue resolved...for me at least.

Actually because your phone is rooted.
I heard you can clear the apps data and it works , might not but give it a try
Sent from my SPH-D700
works okay for me on stock rooted ec05.. It fine with a few songs, but once I got to around 10,000 songs both the web interface and the android app became a lot slower and less responsive.
Also, the uploader will rape your home bandwidth if you let it.. My 20/2 ends up slower than dialup with that thing running. There are throttle controls, but they didn't seem to help, the problem only went away for me when I turned it off completely. Also it prevents the screensaver from activating.. wtf? The phone player could use more features, as could the web player. Web interface failed the girlfriend test. After using it for a few minutes she declared it "unfriendly" and went back to using grooveshark.
On the one hand, it's cool having my entire mp3 library available when I'm away from home, but on the other hand grooveshark is still better for me to find new music.
On my rooted Droid X (Apex 2.0 Beta), i've had zero issues.
A few tips: Rather than trying to upload your collection during the day, do it while you sleep. It doesn't modify the bitrate, so if you're uploading a 320kbs file that is 6MB in size ... well, you get the idea.
Be prepared for some organization on the site itself. Unless you're quite particular about your ID3 tags, you will have to rename some songs, locate/update/upload new or clearer quality album art (Google Images works fine for this), and combine groups of songs from the same album into one album listing(generally is the result of some of the songs having no 'Album Artist' and some having it... tip, just highlight all, put the Artist in both groups, Ctrl+F5, win.)
Last thoughts... the widget is really bad right now, but the UI isn't awful. While you can presently filter in 2 ways 1) All music or 2) Only music on your phone,... there isn't a way to only filter online stuff. But, when you have no data connection (3G or WiFi), it will gray the online music out.
But really, take this all with the Beta grain of salt. GMail was in beta at one point, and took awhile to become the slick e-mail machine it is now. I have no doubt Google Music will only get better.
do you know, if i update an id-tag on my computer is the same mp3 going to be updated also on Google Music?
If the file size or name of the music file doesn't change then I don't think a Tag will trigger the re-upload. It may be worth a try though.
Anyone know of a good "free" MP3 tagger, that will go through and ID and correct the tags of my MP3s before I upload them?
I think pretty much all of my MP3s have had their tags removed

Several free ones, with reviews for each one.
I've had Google music for a while now (just started using it recently) and I have to say, for it being beta, it's pretty good. Although, I do have some beef with a few things.
Widget sucks: There's the song name, forward, and pause/play button. That's it. I don't like it and I find myself just playing music through the app itself.
Data is wonky: I've noticed that sometimes that GM will load random songs incorrectly and sound like crap. The only way I've found to fix this is going to settings/apps/music and clearing the data and cache. It has to reload the songs but if you start listening to music on wifi or a good 3g connection, songs will load correctly.
Web Interface, YUCK!: Nit picking here but I hate the look of the web interface. Works great though.
App needs equalizer and lockscreen playlist: I'm drawing this complaint after using Power Amp. If GM could model their app after Power Amp, it'd be perfect
Even though it's all complaining, I still recommend this app to music users (on sprint only). After songs are cached on your phone, it hardly draws any data, but I still wouldn't use it on AT&T and Verizon...but that's just because of their stupid cap. It has loads of potential, and I can't wait to see it
sounds ridiculous but i just updated my focus to mango on monday. for the longest time my home pc would not update it, kept giving different error codes each time. i had to replace my original phone with an ATT refurbished one and so i just assumed in the refurbishing process this "new" phone was FUBAR with updates. anyway someone recommended trying another PC, so i used my netbook to no avail and then my work laptop with great success. mango is awesome!
anyway, i love how bing maps will read directions through bluetooth in my car, but i am a little irritated that it won't continue to read the directions until i get to my destination? it will just read the direction i click on and the one after it, but then say "thank you, goodbye" and will stop giving directions. i have to manually go into bing maps again and click on the direction i want to be read to me. just curious if anyone has gotten it to read all the directions until you get to the new location without touching your phone? i notice you can go through a text message conversation without touching your phone via bluetooth, so it would be nice if you could do that with maps also.
Nope, that is the way it was designed to "work" (despite it being an illegal activity in many areas). There is nothing you can do about it, short of buying a real GPS nav system from the marketplace.
Question, Why wasn't this an issue with WM? As crapy as WM was the Maps app worked flawlessly and makes this new one look like crap. Just trying to understand I guess at to why it wasn't an issue before but it is now. It is kind of dangerous to have to tap and look at the screen to see where your going.
Firstly, apologies for the excessively long thread title...
So, after a struggle i managed to mount the M8 as an MTP device in using Dolphin in Kubuntu. Not perfect, and a bit buggy, but it generally works and allows me to transfer files etc.
But, i cannot get the M8 to show up in ANY music app, and believe me i think i've tried them all! Generally i use Amarok, sometimes Clementine or Guayadeque, and all are supposed to support MTP. I've tried them and many others, searched the web for answers (there seems to be very little out there with regard to the M8) and no luck. I CAN use gMTP, but whilst i'm grateful to the developers i'd rather use a proper music app where i can sort a playlist to export etc.
I wonder if anyone else has managed this? Is there some obscure udev rule that solves the puzzle, or am i flogging a dead horse?????
Cheers!
[edit] just checking before i posted this and the phone decided to show up (briefly) in Clementine, but i cannot write to the device....?
Did you ever manage to find a solution to this?
