Apps are confusing...

Hey there
I love balckstone...I have no problems with it...only sometimes some bug or lag or sometimes battery dies sooner than I would like it to due...but it is OK...I bought this device because it has huge display and looks awesome...
This type of question was asked before...but not like this...
I bought this because I wanted it to be something that I will want to use every single minute - but it is not like that - I thought that there are millions of MEGA AWESOME apps but there are not...
And here comes the question...(this is my first WinMo device so I haven;t done any research in the past):
Is blackstone/WM 6.1 too new so no cool apps and games exist for it?
Are they still in development? Or there is nothing going to happen?...
My point is that I don't know how it was and how it will be...I remember when IpodTouch came (I own one) we all waited, first we did jailbreak than played few games that werent that cool but nowadays I can play AWESOME games on my ipod...so is this the same with blackstone? is that all fancy stuff still in dev? or not?
Because to be honest, this really sucks..I know this is not a gaming device, but it would be nice to have some cool game on it...something fullscreen and playable and amusing...
Sorry to post such a long sh*t but I am really sad and confused that I spent so much money on this baby and yet can't have a lot of fun with it.
And also some very useful application to fully customize the look of the today screen (I dont use TF3D) etc...something that is fullscreen on blackstone, is really awesome does cool things looks nice...and everything..I know it is easy to say and difficult to do...but I am not a programmer...I am a user...aaa...enough of ****chat
PS: please post only reasonable answers, if you have to say this has been posted dont do that just close the thread and delete it..I'd like some serious answers...thank you.
First of all, use the search function here on Blackstone forum.
There are whole threads dedicated to games available for Blackstone that work in full-screen and are very nice.
But, if you expect same amount of games for Touch HD like there is for iPhone, then you will be disappointed. Because indeed, Touch HD is not a gaming phone, but rather a business / multimedia / navigation phone.
As for the apps - there's a HUGE amount of applications available for Windows Mobile that work normally on Touch HD. There are many sites that provide freeware WinMo apps, and in fact you can find many cool apps right here on this forum. Again - search function, or simply browse Themes, Applications and Software forum. There are also a few very useful threads that have lists of most popular Touch HD applications, with descriptions.
The question is simply what kind of apps are you looking for?
You are the FingerKeyboard guy..hey there...
Yep, Finger Keeyboard 2 is one of the bestest apps I had and have on my phone...thank you for it...
about the search function - I am not retarded, I searched a lot and found a lots of useful stuff...
But as I have mentioned, as I am a new WinMo user I expected much more...
I dont know what more to say...
Glad you like the FingerKeyboard Seems a lot of people do!
As for the app quantity - there is really a lot of WinMo applications, since this system has been around for a very long time. Not all of them are usable on Touch HD, but many, many are.
I think you should simply say what kind of apps are you looking for (besides games) and I'm sure people will give you advices. If you need some inspiration, try:

thank you very much

Can you change the search provider to Google?

I am now pretty much sold on the HD7, however I really need to know if I can change the search provider to Google, I doubt this but... you know: Bing is on Android, lol... everyone here knows that Bing isn't very special, it's a Google wannabe... at least in my opinion... anyways, possible or not?
I'm pretty sure it's integrated, but there will most definitely be a 3rd party app. Hell, maybe even Google will develop a few apps for the marketplace.

I sure hope so, and maybe a Google Maps app as well.. I just don't look Bing :|
i have to agree with you guys, bing results for my country (poland) are just awful
Been trying to use Bing lately, but it just does not give me the matches I want. So many searches get zero hits in Bing, yet thousands of accurate hits in Google.
Also can't figure out how to limit results to recent webpages, i.e last 24 hours or last week. I use that on Google everyday, so lacking this on Bing is a major flaw.

I think that it will be good if Google develop a few good applications for the market as Google is the best search engine.

Applications

Does anyone know any good and useful application compatible with HD Mini such as, digital compass, stopwatch, ebay etc.? If you have any other app to suggest don't hesitate!
you can find a lot of working applications in this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667987

25,000+ apps? I'm just not seeing it.

I've had my WP7 device for a couple of weeks now. I really gotta know, where are these 25,000 apps that are supposed to be in the marketplace? I've been through most of the categories through the Zune SW and, while there might be a couple of thousand apps, I really just don't see any way it could be even close to 25,000 apps.
Am I looking in the wrong place? Are a bunch of them hidden away waiting for Mango before they show up?
Me neither... I think its a lie... In some categories I scroll down as much as I can and get to the very end of it.. Like in business category .. And stil the most I think it would be was 500 under that to be highly optimistic and a generous margin of error in counting... Considering their is no more than like 12 categories I don't know from where they have this 25ooo figure... Even if w include all the spam apps like books ...
On side note, i Hate how MP has died for last two months. Even the 'featured' and recommended apps are absolutely ****. Just downpaded this app 'vivino' last night because it ws 'Featured and it gave a sticky icon on my program list linking me to vivino website.. They call this app..?
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Of course you're only seeing Worldwide and US released apps. There are others which won't have been released to the US.
Though I wouldn't have thought those specific apps would have made a huge contribution to the total apps.
EDIT... I couldn't find stats for regional releases but I did find that 24% of apps in the Marketplace are not in the English language...

Of course they may still have been released Worldwide or in the US, but I imagine a fair few of those won't have been.

I think this is one of the flaws in the Zune desktop software. It doesn't appear to show everything when you use the category lists. It ends up only showing the "most popular" or "most recent". For everything else you end up having to search for things by name or keyword. But if you don't already [/b] know[/b] the name or the developer didn't provide a decent keyword list, you may never find it.
I've found that several of the online app list sites are much better, and you can use their Zune links to purchase/install the apps you want, once you do find them.

Do you have links to any of them? I like to be able to browse because sometimes (often) I will find an app I didn't even know I needed. I think MS was taking their cue from Apple on this matter too. It's incredibly hard to find anything but the most recent or most popular apps in the iTunes App Store.
The two sites I use most often are http://wp7applist.com/ and http://www.windowsphoneapplist.com/.
Both are very good, although the web server at wp7applist tends to be very slow sometimes. But they do have a killer app available (there's a link to it on the site) that makes most of the site's features available directly on your phone. It is an awesome app, but unfortunately suffers from the same occasional speed issue as their site, since it pulls app data from the same server.

Not even a remote chance it's a lie. Do you know how screwed MS would be if they did that? Anyways people posted links that will help you find apps. I admit Marketplace needs a little help in making apps easier to find. Even when I know the name of something I am not always presented with it when doing a search.
apps really aren't a big deal as alot of things can be done without having to launch an app, and as such I don't really have that many apps on my phone I have enough to trigger the jumplist but that's pretty much it.

Share and Discover Floating Apps

Tablets are a great way to use floating apps on, big screen which enhances multitasking.
I opened this thread so me and every (soon to be) nexus 7 owners can discover new floating apps that makes using a tablet more multitask-able, fun, and life savior.
I''m gonna start with a couple of apps that I think are great, give me feedback and app recommendations ( try to provide a link to the app if possible).

This is exactly what I'm trying accomplish with StandOut, which let's devs easily make floating apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688531
There's already one app, DarkCalc, in Google Play that uses StandOut. Please check the thread and give all the developers some encouragement if you want more floating apps on the Nexus 7!
