Last night the SD card suddenly was missing on my rooted Desire, both in Android and in ClockWorkMod Recovey. The SD card could only be read in fastboot mode. Holy craperoly!
When I tried to mount it in ClockWorkMod Recovery I got an error message saying "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory)". I tried 2 different SD cards but none of them could be mounted.
Searched the web and came across "solutions" like "the mainboard is faulty and must be replaced". WTF!!!
Finally found the solution:
1. Download the Android SDK and extract
2. Connect the phone to the PC via USB
3. Go into Fastboot (hold 'back key' then power on)
5. On your PC enter the command prompt, navigate to the SDK\tools folder and enter
"fastboot oem enableqxdm 0"
"fastboot reboot"
Fixed!
Still have absolutely no clue why the issue happened in the first place...
i tried this but not working , may be it works on some but not for me
well i format with g-parted live cd , and made two partitions of fat32 and ext3
and now it is working
just try it
ps: first i used g-parted live cd in my laptop , but it did not detect my Micro sd
then i tried it on my friend's and then it detected msd , just give it a try , not sure for you

Hi! Thanks for the info, I did everything you told me but when I enter your command it says it doesn't recognize "fastboot" as an internal or external command... any ideas what goes wrong? the command propmt is the "cmd.exe" right? and I should enter the text right there, once navigated until the tools folder, right? (which is now "platform-tools" by the way")
Btw, about the fast boot mode. I turned off the phone and then pressed the back button and once the power button. It didnt say anything about entering fast boot mode or anything, that's right I guess?
I cant believe HTC is screwing that much... I was such a fan. First HTC sense huge problems.. now this...
Please answer! Thx in advance!

Sorry if this seems a bit stupid, I'm new to android and rooting phones. Anyhow, I'm desperatly in need of help!
I successfully followed the root guide for the desire and got the basic rom on from Modaco (Paul's guide). I then thought it would be fun to try out some of the other roms so gave Pays rom a go but couldn't get this to boot.
I did the changing of the partitions on the SD card tried doing this before and after, still no boot.
Done various other things since but now can't get my phone to be recognised by my PC when in recovery mode. When I go into the boot menu, the USB is picked up but when I go to recovery, it isn't.
I've tried running through the rooting process again to apply the stock rom but I can only do the first bit but when I try to run the windows step2 bit, it says error device not found.
I've been looking at the guide on modaco for unbricking your phone and I cant see how do to the following step:
"Enable the SD Card functionality. Boot your phone in FASTBOOT mode (back + power), and enter this command: 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' . This will re-enable your SD card."
I can go into fastboot, that's fine... but how do I enter the command in fastboot? There is no command prompt or text entry method?
Am I being very stupid? Please, can someone help me!!!!!!!

You need ADB-SDK
Open a cmd [tools/commandline here] at the tools-dir you will find there and you will be able to execute de fastboot commands. Youre phone has to be connected to youre pc in the fastboot-modus.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give that a go now
I struggled with the guide on Modaco, as it's rather vague, so when I finally figured it out I wrote down ALL the steps you have to take, and this is what I ended up with:
To Un-USB Brick HTC Desire:
1. Hold down the back button, and then turn on your Desire
2. Make sure the screen shows FASTBOOT. If it doesn’t, choose it from the options available
3. In command prompt go to the folder on your computer where you downloaded and extracted the Android SDK to
4. At the command prompt type ‘fastboot oem boot’
5. If you know that you don’t have access to the SD card when your phone loads up, also type the command ‘ fastboot oem enable qxdm 0’
6. The bit you need from the information displayed in the CID. Look for something like ‘INFOCID is O2___001’. In this case, my CID is ‘O2___001’
7. On your phone go to Settings>About phone>Software Information and note your Software Number. Mine was 1.21.405.1
8. Now turn off the phone and take the SD card out and put it in your computer
9. Go to http://ks33673.kimsufi.com/misc/ and put in the details from steps 6 & 7.
10. Download the file it creates
11. Get the flash image from http://www.shadowchild.nl/flash_image
12. Put both of these on the SD card
13. Put the SD Card back in your Desire and turn it on
14. Go to the Market and download a terminal emulator. I used ConnectBot
15. Run Connectbot. In the bottom left corner where it says ‘ssh’ click on the triangle. Choose ‘locall and put in anything for your nickname.
16. Now enter the following commands EXACTLY as they are shown below, pressing enter after each one
17. su
18. cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
19. cat /sdcard/mtd0.img > /data/mtd0.img
20. chmod 755 /data/flash_image
21. /data/flash_image misc /data/mtd0.img
22. Reboot your Desire, and it should all work again!
AWESOME
Thanks guys,
sorted now... been a while since I did anything with unix/linux commands as well
Now I just need to figure out when I flash the custom roms, why they don't boot.
When you flash the roms are you doing a full wipe?
I suggest backing up your sd to your pc and then wiping your sd fully just as a precaution.
Then before you flash a rom, from recovery make sure you go down the full list of wipe options. Wipe data, cache, ext (if you have one but shouldn't after wiping sd) etc...
some de-odexed roms like pays take a long time for the first boot (up to 10mins) you just have to be patient

Ok, I've bricked my Desire so my pc no longer recognizes it and the phone can't see the SD card.
I know i have to do the ‘fastboot oem boot’ part but how??
My PC doesn't recognize the phone, at the moment i've got android 1.0 in the Android USB devices with the yellow problem sign against it as the driver/software never loaded when connecting the phone.
I've tried running the Fastboot file from SDK but the screen just flashes up then disappears, so basically I can't get the command prompt up to run step 4 in the above post.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Try fiddling with when you plug in your USB-cable... that did the trick for me...
Will this work for a Legend???
Does these steps work for HTC Legend aswell?
After installing a custom rom,
I cannot access USB, SD or SIM.
This Guide creates a big moment 22 for me.
I asume im bricked however i have seriously 0 idea how it hapened. After a reboot i could no longer access the SD card, the SIM did not read and the USB could not be connected to the PC. Ive tried with diffrent SD cards and SIM cards without anny progess.
So this guide asumes that this will help:
5. If you know that you don’t have access to the SD card when your phone loads up, also type the command ‘ fastboot oem enable qxdm 0’
But it doesnt. It only gives me the error message:
... INFOR[ERR] Command error !!!
in CMD.
So, i cant use my SD card(it works on the comp but not on phone) And thats that.. what the f*ck do i do?
Edit: Besides,
7. On your phone go to Settings>About phone>Software Information and note your Software Number. Mine was 1.21.405.1
This doesnt aply to me since im running a custom rom and not a stock rom. (And no i cant install a RUU due to the computor not even noticing the phone).
Edit2: Acording to:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
The command is
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
not
fastboot oem enable qxdm 0
Wich resulted in a successfull Command but the SD card can still not be read.
The bit I don't get.. (not that I need to do this), but there is no file/executable named fastboot in the dir of the tools directory on the linux sdk. how does it work?

I solved all of this by bypassing the SD card and downloading straight to /Data with Wget in shell.
However i still have the problem of runnin a non HTC rom (NO i cant flash a new one cus i still cant get the damn SD Card to work ).
So the whole software version .. if its wrong. will this still work? I changed the CID in the mtd0-img but since i dont know the software version i cant do annything about it ..
I follow all steps of the tutorial and it unbrick my HTC Desire!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love my phone!

Ok so recently I've been attempting to manage some files with root explorer and when ever I navigate to my sd card I get a "sd card mounted as read only " error and I can't do nothing. Now my sd card doesn't have a physical lock switch , what's going on here? Anybody else expeteince this?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
just for reference i found the answer else where on the forums
reboot to fastboot and type the commands below
SD Card Fix
Press & hold vol down and power on the phone
Select fastboot by pressing the power button
ADB commands
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot
That should fix your SD card not being detected.
Is there a way to run these commands through the phone? The exact same thing thing just happened to me and I am about an hour from home so I am hoping to fix it on the fly. The last time this happened the only thing that fixed it was running chkdsk through a command prompt on windows. Is there a way to do something like that through recovery or terminal? Thanks for your help.
Hello people,
some things about me: i aint no expert,i am just the "follow the guide step by step" type of guy.
here goes with my problem,
I flashed oxygen v2.0 and my phone after a manual reboot crashed, i tried to boot but it stuck in the oxygen boot logo 4-5 times.
i opened the recovery (clockwork mod-alpharev 2.5.1.8) and wiped everything out (system-data-dalvik cache-ext partition)also formated the whole sd to fat32.
then when i tried to reflash oxygen 1.0.4 my recovery says that it cant mount sd card.the actuall message i get is " E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)"
i have S-OFF and rooted of course, phone is also with oxygen HBOOT.
i tried with 2 diferent cards and with both of them i get the same message.
also both of them are working fine, tested on a laptop card reader.
is it a device HW problem or something that has to do with the wipes i mentioned i did before?
what can i do to bring it back to life??
What happens if you connect the usb? Might be a usb brick.
Hi,
when i connect it via usb i can see it in "my device manager" on my pc listed as "android USB devices - My HTC" (fastboot)
in boot loader i can see it listed as "Android phone - Android Bootloader interface"
when im in cwm-alpharev recovery i can see it as "other devices - Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM"
the problem is that i cant mount my sd in recovery to do a NAND restore
the only thing i can do right now is go to fastboot bootloader and cwm-alpharev recovery
any ideas?
Yes, follow the link I gave you.
Skip step one since your still rooted.
ok thanks but i am gonna need some more help,
in step 2 it sais to boot into fastboot and enter a command
enter it where?
Terminal or command prompt, make suer you have the sdk tools installed and can use fastboot. If you don't know what it is or how to get it working start here.
I LOVE YOU so much right now,
all i did is the 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' to restore SD functionality and then a nand restore.
my desire owns you his life,
thanks alot.
I've been rooted and using Sandvold's ICS for some time now and it has been excellent, but curiosity got the better of me and yesterday I decided to try the AOKP ROM. Somewhere in the process my phone told me 'error mounting SD card' and ever since I have been unable to do anything with it.
It will boot into recovery, but when I press 'power down' to select 'fastboot', it just goes into the 'bootloader/reboot/reboot bootloader/power down' options. If I press 'Power' when Recovery is highlighted, it goes into the white HTC screen and then the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.20 screen with the blue menu listing various options. If I choose 'install zip from sd card, for instance, I get E: Can't mount /sdcard/.
I have tried another sd card, but no luck.
Any help appreciated!
connect your phone to pc while it is booted to fastboot (power+back button)
in cmd/terminal:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
what about do some search good guide is here in your case :[13]RECOVERY CAN'T MOUNT SD-CARD
Thanks for the advice. I've tried No.13 without success. All I get is - 'The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect'.
I get this message after entering any of the variations in the guide.
Please post the commands you entered here (if you do not remember every one, post the ones you remember).
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
cd\ C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
and when that wasn't recognised
cd\ C:\program files\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
None of these have worked. Although it looks 'bricked', it will boot into recovery and all the usual options are there but when I try any of them ,it can't find the sd card.
I have two laptops, one with Ubuntu and the other with Windoze XP.
I haven't tried the Linux route yet.
do you have fastboot installed? download this zip and make sure drivers are installed too
unzip it and run commands from above with path where you unzip the fastboot.zip
Which error messages do you get?

I tried the NO. 13 instructions again on a friends laptop with Windows 7 and my SD card is back. Wonderful!

Hi!
Something is wrong. I have AmonRA 2.0 recovery and I can't mount sdcard, even when I try to use function Flash zip form sdcard I get this message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0).
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard.
Well all started yesterday after installing some games from Google Play and then phone caught bootloop. So I use Full wipe I decided to increase the size of the partition EXT. Then I get message Can't mount sdcard. So I delete partition (fat32 and EXT) on pc and create new. Bat still the same. I can't create partition using recovery, because E:Cant mount.....
I delete again partition on pc and put clean card to HTC, still the same problem.
What already tried:
- change Hboot but no results
- I try reinstall AmonRA using Unrevoked 3 - my phone reboots 2 times and then unrevoked want install
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM Windows driver, but I have GSM!
I ran android and go to Settings>Storage Settings and I see "Insert an SD card for mounting", but my card is already inserted!
any ideas? please help

Partition is ok. I can create new. The problem is that the phone will not mount sd card. Is available from the recovery and from the android.
I have 3 different sdcard and it does not matter which is insert, because recovery and android they do not mount.
I can change HBoot, so physically slot is ok. (Function FASTBOOT sees the new hboot file on the sd).
So once again:
The problem is that the phone will not mount sd card. Is available from the recovery and from the android.
Do as @abaaaabbbb63 said.
Since fastboot is obviously working, flash 4ext recovery with fastboot.
Then reboot into recovery and partition/format your sdcard from scratch.
And there's no use in starting a new thread for the same issue, things won't go better!
Two beer or not two beer, that's the question

You have to :
1. Setup fastboot
2. Turn your phone off. Boot it into fastboot using back button + power button, then plug it into your computer. On your phone it should now say "FASTBOOT USB".
3. Open command prompt (cmd) and enter the command
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Thank you very much guys! It works!:laugh:
Here is what I did:
1. I used these instructions and download ADB&Fastboot.
2. I typed the command "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" In the window I saw the answer "Finished... OK"
3. Then I download 4EXT-v1.0.0.5-RC9 from the link above i type command "fastboot flash recovery 4EXT-v1.0.0.5-RC9.img".
4. I launched a new recovery and use function "usb unbrick" It shows me 640kb file was missing. So I click FIX and done.
Now sdcard is working.
Thank you again guys. You are amazing!

You have to :
1. Setup fastboot
2. Turn your phone off. Boot it into fastboot using back button + power button, then plug it into your computer. On your phone it should now say "FASTBOOT USB".
3. Open command prompt (cmd) and enter the command
Click to collapse
I found other toturial, but thank you.
