[Q] Is Processing on WP7 Possible? - Windows Phone 7 General

I'm not very much immersed in the Windows Development Environment (I code oF, cross platform) so I'm wondering if it's possible to eventually run Processing (java) on the WP7 platform. Thoughts?

Processing Java from WP7
Yes. You can certainly invoke methods, access and process data in a Java environment from your Windows Phone 7 device. We are hosting a Webinar this Thursday, April 21st at 3pm (CST) that will show you how. Just google WebORB for a link to this webinar. I'm a newbie on this site and can't post links.

I'm sure they will if game creation becomes big on WP7.
I'm here, and to say the least, the atmosphere is amazing. There is so much anticipation/alcohol/gambling (already lost $400) truly surreal feeling.
Kick off is in a few hours..I'm heading out to buy a camera before I go completely broke...lol

Anyone else think that this thread should be stickied as most of the other ones are based on mere speculation? Would be great for those who come here seeking actual facts about WP7.

Looked better in person, I want to note as well that their third party apps pause in the back ground and are not actually closing. Which could be considered multitasking. Mainly because they can be fully integrated into the the experience. IE, netflix was added to the zune experience even though its a 3rd party app. As such it paused in the background when not in use...but it can be hot swapped to

source-code

WP7 Live Services Security Cracked, Full HD2 Port Imminent?
File under: News
By: Evan Blass | 11:59 AM 6-Jan-11 | 8 Comments
Highly-regarded Windows Mobile developer and XDA senior moderator Da_G has reportedly been able to bypass the Genuine Advantage security protection on Windows Phone 7, enabling him to get live services like Xbox, Marketplace, and Zune working on an HTC HD2. The news was casually passed along by senior member AndrewSh, a user with over 1,000 posts. With the Dark Forces Team -- the group behind MAGLDR and HD2 NAND Android booting -- having successfully gotten WP7 running on HD2, the only real challenge up to this point has been enabling full functionality with regards to the services that "phone home" to Microsoft.
Notably, it was Da_G himself who lamented on the heavy cloud-based security back in November, stating that:
"Nearly all the major functions on the device operate by shuttling data to and from the “cloud”, presenting different methods to the user for getting their data on to the device. However as these services interact quite a bit with Microsoft’s own servers, they have considerably beefed up the security in this area. Each device contains a “Device Provisioning Partition” or DPP that contains a unique certificate assigned to the device at the factory. Each certificate is verified locally by the device in several places, and also uploaded and verified by the “Cloud” for each transaction. Loading Windows Phone 7 on to a device that did not originally come with the platform would result in having an invalid certificate, and these services will not function properly."
Well apparently Da_G has found a way to fool or otherwise bypass this Device Provisioning Partition, so that when a WP7 build is eventually released for HD2, it should be almost fully functional (although it will still require the use of a RAM loader, as opposed to a direct flash a la Windows Mobile). Since Da_G has been maintaining radio silence on XDA since Christmas, this development has yet to be verified, so we'll update when this becomes official.

[REQ] Beginning WP7 Coding - Need some help

I have been coding on WM 6.x and the CE lineup for years. Done it on VB.NET. Now, with the iteration of WP7, I have migrated to the refreshing OS. But, I got the shock of my life when I opened VS2010 WP7 project...
XAML, Binding item, etc. I have never touched them before. Coding for the WM 6 was as easy as Windows Forms. If you get me. I gave up WPF because of the confusing stuff esp XAML. Borrowing a WP7 coding book frm the library didn't help. So now.. If there's any member who's willing to devote a small time to answer some of the coding difficulties (thru PM) as I code along, it will be great. Can't offer you much, though ...
Went through the same thing. I found the documentation on MSDN really useful. Also if you have a look on codeplex there are some samples and apps around that could be useful for you to look over. I would say don't be too scared by XAML its really good once you get used to it.
Also you might want to look at the new mango dev tools as they support developing in vb so you won't have to move to c sharp

Same here, although i don't have any programming skills at all.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
I can understand how going from WinForms to XAML/Silverlight would be a shock.
Strangely, my ASP.NET experience helped me to adapt to XAML - the concept of defining UI declaratively in the markup and having the code in a code-behind file is exactly the same in both.
If you've done any desktop WPF, it's the same concept as well.
In order to adapt from WinForms, think of it this way:
1) the design canvas - works similarly between either WinForms, WPF, Silverlight.
2) the declarative markup - similar in concept to HTML. In WinForms, the auto-generated InitializeComponent () in *.designer.cs is responsible for creating, initializing, and building the UI - in WPF/Silverlight the XAML serves this purpose, but is much easier to modify than the InitializeComponent method (which they tell you you shouldn't be doing).
3) the code behind - In WinForms, you have to open up your WinForms class in the code view, and you can code all the event handlers and whatnot. In WPF/Silverlight, this is in the *.xaml.cs, and is very similar to the WinForms codebehind.
I'd recommend going to create.msdn.com and start going through the tutorials.
Check this site Getting Started with Windows Phone.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/wp7trainingcourse_wp7gettingstarted_unit
Yes, MSDN, they have a on-line training to get your started, even your first "Hello World" app to try. I figure I will be going this route to get an idea of the tools then go deeper into reading coding just to get the fundamentals down.
It's the only way I could get started...

Doesn't look like it, and besides nearly all programming is done in English.
Personally I can't stand using a Norwegian version of Windows, and others can't live without it.

Microsoft Apportunity Contest for New and Existing Windows Phone devs

I heard that Microsoft is currently sponsoring a contest for developers called the "Go Mango Apportunity Contest".
Every time you publish an app between now and December 31, 2011, you get an entry to win one of five Samsung slate tablet pcs. In addition, each time you publish 5 apps during this time period, you also get an entry to win free advertising for one app you made of your choice. The free advertising will run on the Windows Phone Application Network for about 60 days and include 25K impressions.
New developers to Windows Phone are especially welcome. If you're new to developing for Windows Phone or new to developing (programs for mobile operating systems) in general, I see this a great opportunity to get your program (idea) out there and get some recognition for it. If you've developed for Android or iOS, I found a "translation guide" that gives you the Windows Phone equivalent for the Android or iOS programming concept. The url for it is http://windowsphone.interoperabilitybridges.com/porting. If you don't have the new Mango SDK yet (or are working with an earlier version of the Windows Phone SDK, you can find it at http://bit.ly/GoMango.
More details and the code (and url) needed for entry (it's totally free to enter) can be be found at http://bit.ly/rEB5PY
Edit: If you can't get to the site, the code needed to enter is: E8YRA
Update (11-25-11): If you are using Azure in your Windows Phone app that you publish, not only do you get the 1 normal entry into the Apportunity contest, but you also get 1 extra entry as well just for using Azure in your Windows Program app.
Also, for students, for every 3 apps you publish into the contest, you can get a free phone running Windows Phone.
More details can be found here: http://bit.ly/uqdKLe

Syncing the Kin--Linux

Long time follower of all of the work done here. Its a shame that the device is so locked down and no progress has been made. However, I thought I would share with anyone who is interested that its now possible to sync your kin on linux without the need for a virtualbox and windows loaded up.
You can find the fork of lib-mtp at: github [dot] com/kbhomes/libmtp-zune
I've tested it and am able to now sync via terminal or with gMTP. The project was started with the hopes of syncing zunes.. Zune has the same handshake process as the KIN (MTPz)
The background on how it came to be can be found on his project blog: kbhomes.github [dot] com/blog [dot] html.
Hope this helps anyone else who just would like to sync pictures, video, images, songs.
Back to lurking I will go.
Well, it was possible already. No one here uses virtual machines (i hope) in linux but mono runtime.
At least till Kino version comes, so more native (c++ over libusb) approach would be taken.
If you are able to use the standard MTPz way (not our shorcut mtp propietary command), a better approach would be to help here into decrypting the app syncing/uploading procedure, so we could understand what xna framework does in the background and do homebrew launch (which could then help the phone development).
On the other hand, being able to "transparent" sincing would be kind of a good stuff if you could use the kin in software like rythmbox
Sounds good. I hadnt thought abou going at the KIN through Linux before although it would make sense if the KIN was open source. I dont know how much this will help us though.
What he's providing is a fork of the mighty libmtp libraries & tools which is a open implementation of mtp (right one) used by almost any access on the linux environment to mtp devices.
in that fork, he redid the real stuff (aka MTPz) which could be just said as "bypassing" the kin handshake between zune and the device. At least if kin operates exactly like a Zune device (which we think).
It could help by using the kin as a normal (not protected) device on linux providing which kino does IF programs are redirected to it instead normal libmtp, so you can access files and also use in Zune-like software.
On my test field, i wasn't able to compile the software "out of the box" to try on my debian box, so no providing compilation instructions nor a .deb file (debian & ubuntu flavours) or a .rpm file (fedora & redhat 's) makes it just another utility which is non usable by common joe.
What i meant above is that the blog (which i followed back in the day) explains what he did for reversing mtpz protocol, but is not a walkthrough, so we can't just take it and learn, for example, how the kin receives "half succesfully" a XNA application, as i did back in the day in the thread "XNA madness".
better now?
What f we programm an application split it in half and add a part we dont care about for the other half that does nothing then send it to the device with a strip that tells it to complete itself by recommbining itslef on the device?
