[Q] Stuck in hboot - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I applied the 2.2 RUU, then tried to flash the 2.1 stock PB31IMG.zip (yes I'm dumb). Anyway, my phone is now stuck in hboot and I can't do anything from there. I can't run unrevoked 3 because I can't enable usb debugging. I can't mount usb to load a ROM from recovery because I'm not rooted. I do however have S-off.
Is there anything I can do? I read the other thread where the person fixed the problem using adb, but don't you have to enable usb debugging to use adb?

You may be able to flash the 2.2 PB31IMG.zip RUU again. Since you able to get into Hboot and you have S-off, I would imagine that would work.
Going back to 2.1 is a bit of a process, and it sounds like you skipped a lot of steps which is probably why you are stuck in H-boot.

[Q] Unroot fail, cannot access recovery. fastboot loop

Hey guys,
I've search through many forums for someone with similiar problems but to no avail.
I had my EVO rooted with unrevoked 3. I needed to have my phone repaired at the sprint store and since a rooted phone constitutes a voided warranty, I attempted to UN-root. I followed the DROID DEMO 2-STEP UNROOT to the tee.
After attempting to flash the pc36img, It gave me the error of :Main version older
Tried to flash the stock ruu image, wouldn't work either. Someone told me to remove the s-on image on my sd card and replace with s-off. I did that and it let me flash the pc36img, went through all the ok's and after complete and reboot, it boots to fastboot only. Also, I cannot get into recovery(triangle screen).
I downloaded android sdk with the usb drivers so I could flash the unrevoked recovery image through adb. When I go to command prompt to enter adb, the device is not found. Im guessing because USB DEBUGGING has to be enabled on the device. Since I cannot get into recovery nor boot my OS, is there any other method of forcing usb debugging on the device?
Or, If there something else I could do to get my evo to boot normally?
Any help would be definitely appreciated(A LOT!!!)
Im not really an expert(i know, why did I play around with something im not familiar with) So please bare with me. Thanks in advance!!
You're nowhere near bricked. Quickest solution would be to push Amon_RA over fastboot, then flash the same version or older ROM as the 2-step solution so you can actually use it.
If for some reason that gives you trouble, you're still S-OFF so just grab a rooted PC36IMG.ZIP and let the bootloader flash that one. Then you can still push Amon_RA through the OS using the Rom Manager (the one for clockwork, but which lets you flash alternate/Amon_RA recovery).
EDIT: I think the 1st method (fastboot commands) might only work on hboot 0.76 which you are probably not on. Use the 2nd method (ROM Manager), more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744918
Thanks for your help! I guess I had a bad version of pc36img, I re-downloaded another version and it worked perfectly.
Thanks again, bro

Help Unrooting HTC EVO - Very Odd Issue.

So, I have had my EVO rooted for a while now but it has recently developed a charging issue with the USB port. I want to take it into Sprint to have it looked at so I need it unrooted.
I used unrevoked to root it in the first place so I followed the instructions on their site to unroot. I hit and odd snag at that point. You are supposed to flash the s-on path in recovery, which worked fine, then reboot to HBOOT and let it install the PC36img file, which is where my problem first started. No matter how many times I tried it would not install that file. It kept saying it was older than the rom version I was running. From there I also tried multiple times to install from HTC Sync with offical RUUs which achieved the same result. Getting frustrated I put s-off back on and tried the pc36img once more with great success. It booted right into an older stock version of Android.
Here is where I'm currently at. I went back to HBOOT and tried to launch recovery and...oops...the custom recovery is gone and all that is left is the very stock 3 option one where the only thing I can flash is update.zip leaving me unable to enable s-on again so I can take it to the Sprint store.
I have tried rerooting again with unrevoked and it keeps failing to install custom recovery. Any ideas? Is there possibly an update.zip out there that would turn s-off to s-on?
Thanks.

Can I re-root with Unrevoked3??

Im already rooted but I'd like to root with Unrevoked b/c i've heard it will give me HBoot .92 and every other method i've tried to get .92 just doesn't work. So can i just run unrevoked and "re-root" ??
Did you download the latest HBOOT .92 from Doug Piston's site here, rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, boot to HBOOT to update?
Are you S-OFF currently? I am not sure if you need to be, but when I ran Unrevoked, it didn't give me .92 HBOOT. Try running Unrevoked Forever if you are S-ON to get S-OFF, then try updating HBOOT.
I did try downloading that and about every other suggestion i've heard....no dice. I am s-on, could that be the problem??
Well, if you were to get S-OFF, that would eliminate it as the issue, so I'd go for it. S-OFF will allow flashing of leaked radios, things like that, so that could be the issue here. You can always get back to S-ON if needed. Then retry the HBOOT steps.
when i run Unrevoked to get s-off i get the error message:
"unable to gain root...is your firmware too new?"
I've read where Market installed apps have done this, FrostIncredible said DropBox had to be uninstalled on his to get it to work. Maybe another app you've installed from the Market? Possibly setting the phone to Disk Drive mode when plugged into USB instead of Charge Only...or if you're in Disk Drive mode try Charge Mode Only. Make sure you're using Unrevoked HBOOT drivers too, here.
I've also read where people have installed then uninstalled the HTC Sync program but left the drivers and it worked. I would try this last. Apparently, it installs the HTC Sync drivers and the HTC Sync program, so uninstall only the HTC Sync program and leave the drivers.
This step by step guide may help too. It's a start to finish guide with links, for reference...here.

[Q] Problems With un-Root :-( SCHOOL OF XDA?

So I cracked my screen Monday at work but I'm Not to worried about it .I'm going to take it to a service center and shell out the 35 to have the screen replaced. But Here's the thing. I'm having problems unrooting this damn thing. I have All HTC Sync drivers, all ADB Drivers I have tested moving files to and from sd and sys mem via adb. I have the last two Current RUU's and PC36IMG files stock 2.2 no root, no nothing, just as sprint would like us to have it. I have runned unrevoked forever and have run the S-on Tool before flashing but I always keep getting Bootloader Main Version is older and it fails. I can flash any and all roms but I just can't seem to unroot this damn thing. I have tested the new Radio's and the Rooted 2.3.3 release for our phone. Wasn't much to write home about. I flash S-off and I can Flash anything but once i flash S-on I cant get the ruu's or the pc36img to work.. Always with this Main Version is older. Myabe I have to use a certian combo of radio's or something I'm still running the Gingerbread radios.
Little about my phone
Hardware:0004
Baseband: 2.15.00.11.19
Android:3.70.651.1
PRI: 2.15_003

Hboot. 2.10.0001(S-OFF as of right now)
If someone could please PM me of what I may be missing. Thanks everyone Untill then I will continue searching and reading.
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever ; Scroll down to the FAQs, then download the unrevoked s-on zip. This places the security back on your phone, because rooting makes it s-off, and if s-on, quickest way to tell your phone was rooted.
2. Flash that file from recovery, then boot back into the bootloader [vol+down while turning phone on] and verify until its s-on.
3. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip ; rename that file to PC36IMG, place on the root of your sdcard [not in a folder] then flash it in the bootloader. When the scan that normally does nothing, it'll detect that file. Apply the update then reboot. That's a stock 3.70 firmware file, it'll take you back to stock, unrooted, s-on.
You shouldn't get the 'main version is older' message, it meant you were using the wrong ruu.
Like mentioned above, you are simply trying to flash a rom that is older than your current HBoot requires basically. PC36IMG for Stock HBOOT 2.10.0001 EVO
Best of luck!
This will set everything back to the way it was before you did anything to the phone. However unlikely, be sure to remove any further traces of your "root" by deleting stuff like Titanium backup, clockwork mod .. and any other Apps that required root to use (like wireless tether)
Thats where backups come in handy, because you can backup your current EVERYTHING (Rom with Clockwork - Apps with Titanium), transfer the folders to your PC, and when you get your phone back.. drag and drop, re-root and recover and you are back to the way you like it.. like nothing changed.

Unrooting, just want to make sure.

So the usb port on my EVO is messed up. Sometimes I have to wiggle it around in order for it to charge and if I move the usb cable it disconnects. This also makes it a hassle to transfer files between my phone and PC. I want to bring in my phone to repair, so I have to unroot it. I just want to make sure I go about this correctly. I want to unroot it and have it still be rootable again. I don't know what information you guys need, I'll give you as much as I can.
Hardware 0003
I rooted it with unrEVOked 3 and I didn't have to use the unrEVOked forever s-off patch, the unrEVOked 3 did that. I rooted it stock (did not update ever). I'm currently running a 2.3.5 rom with HTC Sense 3.5.
Would flashing Forever S-ON and then a PC36IMG through hboot be all I would need to do? Would the phone be rootable again after they repair it?
Yes, put a pc36img of a stock rom on the root of the card, then reboot and run s-on tool. Or run s-on tool and then run a stock ruu.
My radios or anything like that don't matter?
Also can I have a link to a stock PC36IMG? I have one but I don't know if it's 2.2 or 2.3.
Edit: Nvm it's froyo! I will unroot and update you on my progress.
When I attempted to flash S-ON, I got an error:
Unsupported radio version.
I booted into HBOOT, my radio is currently 2.15.00.05.02
How do I downgrade (or upgrade, whatever I need to do) my radio?
vulf search for calkulkin's thread about radios. The thread has every radio starting from the beginning to the newest radio. Take an older one and flash it in recovery. You should be good to go.
