[Q] Re-arranging Homescreens - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a HTC Desire 2.2 yesterday (upgraded from Hero) and for some reason I could rearrange the homescreens, but now I cant and I havent got a clue why, I haven't done anything like putting a custom rom on or rooting it at all yet, has anyone else come across this problem and if so is there anyway to rectify it?

What software version is it running? AFAIK only rooted Desires can do that

it was working yesyterday and its a t-mobile uk, I'v just done an update today but all that does is remove some german stuff of it apparently, but I only did that to see if it would work again, so the current software number is 2.12.110.4 Android version 2.2

Unless the German version allowed it you'd need to root

it definitely worked for the first day, and like I said I did the update after it stopped working, never mind then, I'm gonna root it at some point anyway, because the stock app2sd is nowhere near as good as what I had on my hero with a villain rom

[Q] Confused :( 3 UK Desire with 1.22.771.1

Hello All,
I am used to flashing my HTC Touch Pro 2 and other windows mobile devices, but i have just moved onto a desire and am having a nightmare.
I bought the Desire on PAYG from 3 in the UK as they were up to a point supplying unbranded phones, but just my luck I had to have one from the new batch which is branded and cost me £18 to get an unlock code to use the phone on T-Mobile.
So as I stand I have an Sim Unlocked Desire thats branded to 3 UK.
The Rom version is 1.22.771.1 and Hboot 0.80 which I believe is an issue with rooting so that I can use other Roms.
To be honest I am quite happy with 1.22.771.1, but have a strange issue that on some occassions when someone calls me the ringtone starts, but then cuts out and there is no further sound, although they are still calling and I can answer the call.
So I really want to root and then switch roms.
I have read and read and read, and I believe my best chance is unrevoked, as I have seen a couple of posts which say it works with 1.22.771.1, can anyone confirm this?
Also if I flash to a custom rooted Froyo 2.2 rom, will I still be able to return to 1.2x roms should I not like it? As I have also read that unrevoked, does not work with 2.2, or is this just if you use the OTA roms?
If anyone out there can give me a do this 123 guide to get myself sorted I would really apparciate it.
Thanks
Stephen.
Hi
The issue with the ring tone is due to a setting,
Setting > sound > quiet on pick up
In check this option
sent from my C64
SeArch for a guide, its easy.
But you can return to any Rom you like, as long as your rooted.
I mention this due to if download the new ota you will lose root, and I don't think a method has been found to root the new 2.2 Rom yet.
sent from my C64
Sorry on my desire, but if you install a 2.2 Rom from xda you won't lose root.
But if download via ota and install you will lose root.
sent from my C64
So are you confirming I can root 1.22.771.1 with unevoked? Then install a rooted 2.2 rom?
Regards the Setting > sound > quiet on pick up should that be on or off? to cure the sound issue as i have that set as off.
thanks stephen.
can anyone confirm, so i can have a go at sorting this today please

I can confirm that you can't, and I wouldn't recommend that you try. The clockwork recovery image that unrevoked uses never loads, so the phone can't be updated in any way.
What I tried was slightly more extreme. I attempted to downgrade the HBOOT version, so I could flash a lower version generic RUU ROM. Unfortunately, whilst this worked as far as I can tell, the screen simply stopped working. I could actually receive phone calls, but nothing would come up on the screen.
The bad news is that even after flashing back to the original Three RUU ROM, the screen remained blank. The good news for me is that I'm due to get a replacement phone under warranty.
Personally, I can't even tell if this is a software issue or a hardware issue unique to me (I think it might be hardware as I should at least be able to boot into the bootloader), although this time I'll wait for Three to push the update, as I'm not prepared to take the risk of not being able to use my phone again.

I had Hboot 0.80 on my Desire with 1.21.405.2 and I used the Unrevocked3 method to root. But mine was unbranded from Three.
I now have 2.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775) with 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 Radio.
All works great.

Radio 2.05?

I just rooted s-on for now and still running stock 2.1. Figure I'll wait for the official 2.2 release and maybe Skyraider 3.0 before flashing. I guess I can still upgrade to radio 2.05 at this point. Is it a good idea? Is it much better?
Thanks....mm
Hey,
I was in a similar boat and decided to go for it for the 720p since I'm going to a concert next week that I wanted to capture footage of.
Anyway I ran into a big problem in that any "copy-protected" applications (even free ones) no longer were available in the market after I upgraded the radio to 2.05. I tried everything but there was no way to download some apps (the one I really wanted was a free guitar tab app called Tabular).
Pissed me off but I ended up deciding to go all the way and followed a Youtube video today to upgrade to Froyo. Now everything seems to be working ok.
So I'd advise not to just because you may run into problems w/ the market.
-Jay
Thanks but I intend to flash a custom 2.2 rom also so I shouldn't have that problem (I guess).

02 Froyo RUU.

Has anyone tried this 02 Froyo RUU file ?

Full details are here
http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/148932-froyo-ruu-update-available.html
Just wondering if anyone has tried it.. Tempted, but would like to know it works before I give it a go !!
No one tried this ?
Does anyone have any more details of this yet?
I'm quite interested in it, as I've held off rooting my desire until something like this is available so that I can get it back to stock for warranty reasons if necessary.
If someone does try it, could you let us know the HBOOT version etc?
Looks like someone used it on the other forum.. seems to have worked OK !
Following the advise on the other forum...
I've installed the stock 2.2
Seems to have gone well
Currently using my main 8gb SD as my goldcard and mem card.
About to make a backup 4gb goldcard..
Only thing I can't get to work properly is Laputa Ebook Reader.
Books are there but don't appear on My Shelf..
I'll have a play !!
HBOOT version?
Also anyone tried unrevoked with this?

If it's stock 2.2, unrevoked won't work since it's got HBOOT 0.92. I'm running that same build, but like chippieuk I haven't downgraded my HBOOT yet for fear of not getting back when something goes wrong or I need my waranty.
shipped-roms.com is asking for a password, anyone have any idea what it is?
or if anyone has a copy, please host it for us somewhere for our flashing pleasure
Withdrawn O2 UK Stock Froyo RUU
I made the mistake of downgrading my Desire SLCD after I had used a clockworkmod ROM and I lost my display. This seems very common, based on the posts on this forum. However I downloaded a copy of the withdrawn stock Froyo RUU and thought I would have nothing to lose if I tried to flash my desire. Well I tried it on Monday and I was over the moon when I found my Desire was back to normal operation.
I have been using the new Froyo on my O2 Ireland phone for a week now and I haven't experienced any negatives. The phone is running a dream in every way and seems faster than the original 2.1 ROM that was initially supplied. I can only guess that the problems experienced by the initial users was related to an upgrade rather than a complete new flash.
The link I used for the O2 UK Froyo RUU is here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe
I hope this fixes any similar problems for users of the SLCD Desire, good luck
wooo
I just registered to show my thanks to sysconp1, that RUU worked a treat had the bricked slcd used that link and all is well, stock o2UK froyo Thanks again buddy and merry crimbo and a happy new year to all =]

[Q] Which Rom Has What ?

Hi All,
long time reader, 1st time poster,
i have switched from the nexus to the desire, and i have seen lots and lots of diffrent roms for the desire, so i was wondering if i may ask your assistance in locating the best one?
which rom most people prefer ?
what advantages does X rom have over X rom ?
i currently have a desire running 2.2 froyo if there is anyone else switching which could suggest a good switch ?
Hi,
I'm fairly new to this whole rooting business myself and certainly not an expert on advising which is is the 'best'. A lot would depend on your needs and preferences. For my use, however, I found the ROM at :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
to be very stable and to my liking. It is virtually the same as an OTA update of Froyo, except it is rooted and has some miner modifications.
Read a lot and try different Roms; I'm sure you'll find one to your liking and needs.
Hi Mag,
Thanks for your advice, it sounds like a nice easy starting mod,
btw how did you root the phone to start with ?
i have tried the current REVOked client but that seems to fail each time.
so i was debating sitting back and waiting for REVOkeds new 3.2.1 client to be released for download.
Here is what I did with my very limited knowlage about rooting:
1. I made my working sd card into a 'gold card'. Not sure if that was necessary or not, but it couldn't hurt.
2. I downgraded from OTA froyo to the 2.1 version.
3. Then rooted my phone using Unrevoked3.
After that I was able to update to any rom using clockworks recovery only.
Everything went very smoothly for me without any hickups.
You can find all the needed details about the individual procedures above, on this great site. Search and you will find .
Hope this is of some help.
Mag
PS.: Unrevoked at, http://unrevoked.com/#inc, is suposedly working on a new version that is able to root Froyo without having to dowgrade to 2.1 first.
Unrevoked's rooting solution is already out for the Desire FYI
Here is the link for it
http://unrevoked.com/
Be advised that they have removed the current version because it had some issues with the Evo 4G but the older 3.2 is still up and flawless for the Desire.
Unrevoked Desire
Sadly I had major driver issues with my current PC and couldnt root my phone as of yet.. but will do it in a couple of days when i get my new PC So I cant provide feedback as of yet... But the Wiki page of Unrevoked has pretty much everything covered up for you
Hope I helped a little
yeah the current version means you need to downgrade to 2.1. but id rather go straight into rooting, than mess about with downgrading 1st.

[Q] Problems with DeFrost 6.1

First off I keep getting the phone turn off at random moments, usually twice a day
Widgets disappear from the screen after re boot. and then from the menu so I have to uninstall and re install the app to get them back.
Keyboard can't be changed to any other type.
Tried the iPhone style and the Gingerbread one.
Can't turn off notification for the messaging and Facebook application
Seems it doesn't allow changes to the settings.
Anyone know how to fix these problems, or maybe another ROM thats not so fussy.
On another note. where can I get the standard HTC ROM. I've never had standard Android on this Desire so maybe I could go back to spec.
I'm running Defrost too, but I think it's the best rom around. I haven't got a clue how to fix this, except flash it back to stock and start from scratch.
To do that, just flash an RUU. Have a look at this thread:http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-unroot-the-htc-desire/
Would I have to re unlock root then ?
Also which RUU is the one I need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
UK no network lock
Thanks
That depends on how you bought the phone. If you bought is yourself as a retail product, you should take the WWE RUU. If you bought it via a Telecom provider, you should choose the one from that particular provider.
If you can choose between multiple versions: choose the one that came with your phone. Eg if you had Android 2.1 in the past, you should choose a 2.1 one. All RUU's with version 1.x are 2.1, all 2.x are 2.2.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ahh, now I know it was an unbranded version but when I got it it already had Defrost on it.
OK cool. I used the exe version of the AUU and it worked. I'm back as standard now. Which isn't to bad. Might leave it like this for now.
As I don't really know what the benefits of the DeFrost are.
