Currently i just got my G2 exchange for a MT4g after 5 replacement. I was wondering if it possible to Temp-Root the MT4g and use the disabling method that was use for the G2 to disable some able from starting before perm-root (not perm uninstalling). Like "pm disable ___Apps Package Name__ . Will this work on the MT4g? In addition will the package name be the same on MT4g and G2?

So, I was a G1 fan, rooted, then was a MyTouch 3g Slide fan, rootde, and now I got my G2 today. The root process was a breeze using the gfree temp root then gfree perma root, following the instructions in the wiki. With the MT3gS, the root process, originally, had me flashing eng builds then this and that, essentially wiping out whatever I had just to get root.
Now that I've rooted my G2, I haven't flashed any roms, so I assume this root process did nothing more but perma root my G2 "as it stood"? This is fantastic. I will most likely head on over and start flashing the CM roms, as I have religiously used his ROMs on my previous two Android phones.
Oh and real quick stupid question, but CM6.1.x is still Foroy/2.2, and the CM7 is still Gingerbread/2.3, right? I'm really not a dumb new person, just making sure my feet are properly wet jumping into the G2.
1st!
You're right, Froyo 2.2 = CM6.1.1
Gingerawesomenessbread 2.3.2 = CM7.
Yeah, I fell in love with Gingerbread on the MT3gS, and can only imagine the nightlys fro CM7 on this phone are amazing.
Unrelated... I thought apps2sd (fat) where inherent to 2.1 and up. I know once I get a custom ROM on this will be obvious, but is there a setting on the stock G2 software to enable this? I either cannot find it, or am truly stupid... It doesn't appear the apps I am currently installing are going to the SD card.
Edit: OK, I am stupid. I was looking for the "Default Install" setting that the CM ROMs offered, but I see I can go into "most" of my downloaded apps via Application Manager and choose Move to SD... Thanks
Hooray for double posts!
I temp rooted with visionary v14 and downloaded both barnacle wifi tether and wireless tether and tried both and neither were able to connect to my ubuntu laptop. Both apps said they were broadcasting and has superuser permissions but my laptop couldn't get internet connection.
I assume this has something to do with the stock rom/kernal, but i'd like to know if I can wirelessly tether without getting perm root and flashing a custom rom (don't have the courage to attempt it yet)

Isnt there a stock wifi tether that you dont even need temp root to use?

Flashing a ROM is noob friendly and has great benefits! But that is the only way i know of wifi tethering without your system blocking it. ROMS come stock with a wifi tether setting that works everytime.
I know flashing roms are easy (I'm coming from the g1), but I don't have perm root yet, and id rather not mess with gfree until I have no other option because there are more steps to mess up.
But I guess I'll have to muster up the courage to perm root and flash cm7 or some sense rom.
P.S. does cm7 have fm radio support?

he should be able to tether with temp root as long as the temp root was actually successful... doesn't really have anything to do with custom roms.

yes, CM7 has the fm radio app.
check this thread out. and this one.
for the record, I was able to tether wirelessly on the stock froyo rom (granted, I was permarooted with gfree/rage, but again I don't think this should matter... if you're temp rooted, it should work unless something has changed in the past few months) with the wireless tether app. now I just use the built-in Cyanogen tethering solution.
Thanks guys, I'll try the newer wireless tether app and if that doesn't work I'll try gfree perm rooting.

It turns out all I had to do was get a new version of Wireless Tether to get it to work. I was using the old 2.0.2 version from my G1, so I updated to the 2.0.7 version.
I've been looking through the threads here to see if there's a way I can gain temporary root on my MyTouch 3G Slide. I'm really not interested in a permanent root or switching away from the stock rom (I've got the 2.2.1 ROM), unless there's a really good one based on the stock.
Basically, I just want to get temporary root and remove some of the pre-installed bloatware (the T-Mobile app pack, perhaps the HTC Stocks application) and clear out some space. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Anyone?
Basically, I just want to enable the Move 2 SD enabler and delete some of the carrier bloatware (if at all possible).
My GF has a G2 she wants me to root and whatnot for her, but I have no idea how to do it since it's got the newest OTA update (with the black notification bar). Gingerbreak worked just fine to get me root on my non-OTA-update G2, but doesn't work on hers. I saw one method on the Development forum that included hex editor use and whatnot, but I'm wondering if it's possible to just flash something through fastboot and be done.

You need to downgrade; check the wiki for the guide to downgrade and root.

So I followed the directions here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/root-android-phone-superoneclick-2/ to "root" my Optimus V with SuperOneClick but when I start Super User the apps list is empty and it doesn't seem to have made anything different about my phone. I was under the impression that I'd be able to uninstall the bloatware with a rooted phone but the option to uninstall those apps is still unavailable. Do I need to install a custom ROM now?
It seems like now they want me to pay 3 bucks for the "full" version of Super User. I don't get it.
Can someone please help a noob out?
