I am wondering, has anybody else noticed that on some apps it says "This app makes use of your phone's: owner identity and phone calls", and does this seem a little suspicious to anybody else?
Why would an app need to use my identity and phone calls? I have seen some good apps that I have been reluctant to download because of this. Is this something I should worry about?
what app did you install that said this? All of the ones i've installed just warned about location services if i remember correctly.
Pretty sure the Microsoft Advertising SDK causes this. It's a bug that MS says they're going to fix.
What application was it that said that?
Here ya go, full explanation.

Hey All,
Im sorry if this was asked before but I didnt see it and none of the keywords brought anything up for a phone only for a computer.
I know there is a too called sktools, which tracks images of before and after app installs, but I was wondering is there is such a thing as a monitoring program, such as I think its called process monitor for a computer?
I am trying to see if there is such an app that can kept a log in text of what the phone does as apps are called to load and function, my hopes is to narrow down calls that the app is making in real time so to find possibly sdome solutions to a common modding of files and apps, aka htc messaging msg loading.
If there isnt one, could someone make one? And if there is one, can someone provide me a link since I couldnt hit it with my searches?
Thanx.
I am running Cyanogen RC and installed the "hacked" facebook app that allows for contact syncing. Everything has been working fine, no problems at all. I installed Tasker on Friday after the review on Lifehacker, but haven't really set anything up yet (just haven't had time to define a lot of tasks.) Since I installed it, I noticed that the "Older Posts" link in the News Feed doesn't get older posts like it used to - It looks like it's updating, but no older posts appear.
My job is high level software tech support, so I'm trying to go through all the typical troubleshooting steps in my head -
1) Is it the fault of the hacked FB app? But it worked when I installed it...I could go back to the Market version, but then I lose contact syncing.
2) Is it Tasker's fault? I don't see why that app would interact with FB, but it's odd that I started noticing it right after that install. I suppose I could uninstall Tasker and see, but I really want to start learning and using Tasker.
Any ideas out there?
Nobody???
I am a regular user of the MyYearbook site and mobile app (social networking, a bit like Facebook).
I also use to Adfree Android to get block ads, which worked pretty well until a while ago.
On the latest MYB app update (and the previous one actually) they changed the settings or perhaps the ad provider, and now Adfree shows a massive full-screen "Webpage not available" message at the top of my chatter (like FB feed). This is in stark contrast to the small unobtrusive white box which is the way it used to look.
No problem I thought, I'll just go back to my backup of the old version. But now this old version of the app nags me to update every time I use it - very annoying!
I know this is probably an obscure problem, and not a whole lot of people use MYB so it's possible no-one else here has experienced the problem. But can anyone suggest a fix? Either for the nagging in the old app, or the big full-screen "Webpage not available" message when I use the new app?
Revert > Uninstall Adfree
One way to avoid this problem
Yeah, I've pretty much come to the same conclusion :-/ I think I've investigated everything else...
Hello everyone,
Since the beggining of this week, I'm experiencing a weird and suspicious event.
My wifi icon shows up like if I was downloading something 24/7 (please see the attached picture)
Seems like some app keeps using my wifi to send/receive data (could be a trojan ?).
I want to know your thoughts about this knowing that I rebooted both my phone and rooter several times already.
Thanks.
Hey dude,
That's normal. Most times bloatware is running as a back process on the phone. It also depends which apps you've got. Like news apps or if your Facebook or Twitter is active. Don't worry about it, I would say.

If you are worried about Trojans do a search on Play for one of the free security software. A good one will scan and show you suspicious apps you need to evaluate and possibly remove. Good luck
Best way to find out is root and use Android Firewall. It is free and useful. You can block and just check logs to see what is sending traffic.. and where.
Thanks for the answers guys
It does look like some heavy working app because It takes ages before a normal website loads.
@Beowulf_pt : that's exactly what I'm looking for, cheers !
You really need to look at what you have runing in the background and decide if you want all of it turned on. There is a lot of things that are on by default that you may not need like auto updates for apps. They will be checking to see if there is an update and use your bandwidth even if there is no update available.

It could be google instant upload / picasa (check your Google Account sync settings) or Dropbox Camera Upload (check dropbox app settings).if you have those enabled that could be the cause. I'd guess they're the most likely culprits in this case.
Forgive me if this is a simplistic question, but I can't figure out what's going on with my phone.
I have an app that tracks my data usage and gives me a breakdown of which apps are using the most data. Recently, an app called MyFlare has appeared on the list and it's using quite a bit of data. I went to uninstall it, though....and I can't find it. It's not in the general apps list, it's not in the application settings menu under "all apps" and I can't even find it if I do a file search on "MyFlare." This has me really concerned that I inadvertently downloaded something harmful. I've run several scans through Lookout and that has not turned up anything malicious, but I'm still worried.
I think Cox communications has an app called MyFlare that's some kind of photo backup or something. I use Cox for my internet and may have downloaded the app when I first signed up with them, but it's not on my phone anymore.
Could someone help me figure out if I downloaded something malicious and how to remove it quickly?
Can you post a screenshot of this issue
That would be greatly appreciated
Sorry for the delay, here are the screenshots.
In the first, you can see that myflare is using quite a bit of data:
But in the second picture, that app doesn't appear in my apps list....
(I'm posting from my phone and it said that the pictures uploaded, but if somehow they didn't, I'll re-upload when I get back to my computer)
