Superuser app... it changed? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when I rooted my phone my superuser application had a ninja as an icon and it will work perfectly. It will ask for permitions once. Well now I noticed that that app is no more and is replaced by a superuser app that has a pirate Droid as icon and asks me for SU permitions all The time even when I check remember...
Is it because I installed Bacon bits? If is that, can anyone, please tell me how I get rid of Bacon bits? ( I only installed it because it was an easier process than the other )

Where is my super ninja?!?!

I know it's a silly question...but the tutorials said I would have a little super ninja icon in my apps after I set up super user. Not there...I want!
(Actually just wondering if anything is missing or if just symptom of Evo's.)
I DO have super user access as I completed root and unlock last night and was in the su a lot trying to find out why stuff wasn't running as smooth as tutorials implied. So I do get logged into SU and I get that # prompt.
I installed one ROM (not sure which) and my SU app icon was just a blue pound sign. But with Fresh I have the ninja.
Not that it matters, it's only in the app drawer, it's not like he stalks the home screen or the notification bar. Although, if he did, would we even know?
So...should I have something that says super user? I don't have any app that says super user. (In another thread today they said to look in app drawer for super user.)
I used the root and unlock process from unlockr.com.
I still have unrooted stock ROM...(no time last night to flash to rooted OTA ROM.)
if you just did the rooting proccess and did not flash a custom rom, then that is your problem. you are on a STOCK rooted rom. was that app there in the stock rom? nope. flash a custom rom or download in the marketplace.

iLol'd.
I don't see the big deal, but the ninja is pretty slick.

Flashable .zip version of SuperUser v2.2.2.
Download file, place in root of SDCard, and then boot to recovery; flash .zip from SDCard just like you would a ROM and then reboot phone.
Presto.
Newest version of SuperUser app has been installed and ready to roll.

I did too...my real reason for asking was to make sure I didn't miss / mess up something.
Now it makes sense that the stock ROM would not have it as an app. Guess I assumed that one of the eighty files I worked with would have been it......but no.
I get it now. Tonight will be my first ROM on android. Probably do the rooted stock and do a nand backup....then go to damage control since I hear good things about it.
(Really need to figure out odexed and deodexed next I guess huh...)
Ninja come to me......
ps....THANKS for the links!!

[Q] "unknown user granted SU permission" causes reboot on 4G only

My e4gt rebooting constantly on 4g. "Unknown user granted su permission" pops up before reboot.
how do i know whats causing this?
just installed calkulins 1.5a rom and installed some apps with titanium(which is probably the culprit)
Run Superuser from the app drawer and clear all the permissions. Then when the offending app asks for permission a prompt will come on your screen and you can identify the offender.

tried it...and no app shows up just the permission granted and then reboot. it seems to happen when i try using any app that uses the data service. the log in su has a permission granted but no description of offending app.
Personally I wouldn't be comfortable if an app I had no idea about started requesting root permissions on every startup. You probably do want to track it down. Worst case you can reinstall the base ROM and then put your apps back one at a time until you see the culprit.
Lettuce know what the app is too, it needs to be reported.

gTalk

hi guys,
is there a way to install gtalk with voice and video on my sgw?
nobody knows?
you can download "talk 1.3 installer [root]" in market...
Link...will try TKU
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brainwashstudio.talkinstaller&hl=en
tried latest (recommended) and briso's 3rd mod.....
both FC'd,
app never ran,
the quest continues!!!
ive been looking for this myself but none of the current methods seem to work. Im hoping that samsung pull their fingers out and get it sorted.
I have gtalk with video working on my Galaxy W.
For sure I used the link provided above: talk installer 1.3
However, it could be I first removed the original system app using Titanium Backup
But it's working now...

i installed busybox and talk 1.3 but didn't work
can you tell me all the steps that you have done?
Didn't work for me.
I backed up and uninstalled the Talk app with TB, then ran the Talk 1.3 installer from the market, which failed (said something like "can't copy Talk.apk"). Then, to make matters worse, TB refused to reinstall the app from the backup - it just hung, even with the indirect option enabled (makes me wonder why I paid for it!).
I eventually got the talk app back by flashing the latest stock ROM (there just happened to be a new one available when I fired up Kies).
Edit: I just thought I'd try again using just the Talk 1.3 installer. However, it won't even backup the stock app - like with the attempted installation before, it says it cannot copy Talk.apk. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, since I'm not doing very much at all!
Edit2: I just checked in /system/bin and there is no "cp" symlink in there - perhaps that's the problem? (I rooted using the recovery method, which installed busybox, but it doesn't seem to have created the cp symlink...)
Edit3: I sorted the cp issue by installing a terminal emulator and running "busybox --install /system/xbin". Backing up with the Talk 1.3 Installer now works. I don't have a good data connection where I am at the moment though so I can't have another go and installing the modified Talk app until later.
Edit4: The installation of the modified Talk app now works, but it force closes whenever I try to start it. I've tried all the versions in the installer, and they all FC on startup. I could easily restore the original apk from the installer's backup though, so no damage done.
Confirmed [root] Talk 1.3 Installer works.
Requirements:
1) Rooted Phone
2) Titanium backup (root)
Steps:
1) Sign out from gTalk
2) Make backup of Talk app using Titanium
3) Wipe Data for Talk app using Titanium
4) Uninstall Talk app using Titanium
5) Download [root] Talk 1.3 Installer from Market
6) Run it .. it will ask you to backup .. Select No
7) It will ask again ... again Select No
8) Use recommended version and then let it install new Talk
9) After installing you will need to sign in again to your Google account.
10) Now you can use Talk with voice and video
Yay! The above method works. I can only assume it was force closing before because I didn't wipe the data from the old app.
The only problem I've found so far is that I don't seem to be able to start video chats with anyone - they have to "call" me. But that's not a huge issue.
Edit: I also seem to have an ongoing video chat notification that I can't get rid of, even after signing out. I have to force stop Talk to get rid of it. Annoying, but again, not a huge issue.
I went back to the stock version in the end. As far as I can tell, the modded version only works with video the first time you connect - if you want to start another video chat after you've ended the first one, you have to force close Talk and start it again. I think this may be connected to the fact that the ongoing video chat notification never disappears from the status bar.
Anyway, I've decided it's not worth the hassle - I've reinstalled the stock app and I'm just going to use Skype for video chat instead.

Is Superuser/SuperSU apps necessary for proper root?

I'm on stock E980 Kitkat and I just rooted my phone using the Root Tool for Kitkat (can be found elsewhere in the OGP forums). Everything went fine and the next step is to install SuperSU or Superuser from the Play store. This has been my routine all through my Android life: Root and then install a superuser app.
Well, currently I don't have any of these Superuser apps installed (honestly, I was in a hurry and simply forgot to install one) and everything is working perfectly fine. According to Root Checker, I have full root access. All apps who require root are working perfectly fine; maybe even better. Titanium Backup restored all my apps. No issues whatsoever!
So my question here is this:
In order to have proper root and for everything to qork perfectly, is a superuser app really necessary? Or can I just keep things the way they are right now (no su app) and expect everything to work just fine?
PS:
I've been having to reflash my rom several times because of certain root-requiring apps constantly force closing on me. I've had SuperSU installed while this has been happening and without an su app, these apps are doing exactly as they are supposed to. I'm now wondering if there is a bug (or just some other issue) in SuperSU or something.
In Beanstalk thread, its OP recommended to install SuperSU App and uninstall it afterwards.
Kinda confusing and i dont know its purpose from a developers perspective.

My guess, and this is coming from the few hours today using my phone without an SU app, is that it's a security thing (?).
Without the SU app, anything on my phone has root access as it pleases and I have no clue as to what is being granted these permissions. This is fine for me personally because everything I have installed that needs root, I WANT to have root access and it's really annoying to me to have to have to manually grant everything access.
So, I'm starting to wonder if the SU apps are simply for managing root access; allowing certain apps permission, while restricting the access of others.
So far, I've been running the phone several hours without any SU app and the phone is working great! I don't have to constantly grant apps permission all the time (or well, first time I guess).
Super SU
It is better if you could have Super Su installed because then you can control apps that needs root permissions. Some times root privileges required apps can harm your device.

OK, so SU apps like SuperSU are basically used to manage root access from root-requiring apps. A security measue basically.
This is what I figured, but had to make sure.
Thank you
