[Q] Rooted Phone WiFi Calling FCs after a a few hours - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my G2 and installed baconbits 0.3, Wifi calling works fine for about 12 hours worth of continuous use, then the application will force close every time I start it.
When it does that, I can reboot my phone and it works again.
From what I can tell from the (attached) log, it seems to flake out reading my SIM card?
I've tried
re-inserting the module -- didn't work
restarting the background service (both from Settings and using killall) -- didn't work
both of the above in tandem -- didn't work
Just tried:
soft-reboot (# killall system_server) -- worked
What does that do that killall com.android.kineto didn't do?
I don't remember it doing this the 2 days I had a stock phone, but I could be wrong.

[Q] Can't get wifi to connect

I have flashed to CMod 7 nightly 8 yesterday, to try out Gingerbread, and after several glitches at the start (apparently I had to restart once to get the wifi to work at all), I managed to activate the phone, and started downloading all my apps (thanks for app-brain that kept all my apps listed and ready).
At around noon yesterday, my wifi got disconnected, and it can't seem to get connected again - it just stays stuck on "Obtaining IP Address..." for a long while, before finally giving up and listing my network as "Disabled".
At first, I thought it was something wrong with the wifi in my office, but the same thing happened to me at home in the evening, and keeps on happening to me here now.
I reverted back to factory setting (deleting all my hard-installed apps), hoping it will work again, but no luck. Still can't get connected to the network. Just now I also removed the wireless security of my network completely, and it is still not working.
I switched radios between
2010-12-21 - Radio_12.35a.60.140f_26.04.03.30_M
2011-01-04 - Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF (currently on the DHD)
2011-02-25 - Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3
and there was no difference.
I am now thinking maybe I should do a rom manager restore, to see how it works on the old (stock) rom.
Any tips from anyone here?
It's a bug in the rom. Use rc1 that works fine.

Have you updated BusyBox? I recently updated to 1.18.3 and it broke root & WiFi.
Yeah, coming to think of it, I did install busybox just before the trouble started.
Now I am back on stock rom. I must admit that I find the look and feel of the Sense UI much more pleasing than the Cyanogen's... But maybe it's just a question of getting used to it.

[Q] Can't get wifi to work on G2 with Gingervillian rom?

I recently installed GingerVillian on my G2 but after trying all the reboots. and other solutions i've read on the forums i still can't get wifi to work. After rebooting once it will let me add my wifi network but it will never connect. It tries to then wifi turns off and back on and does this repeatedly never connecting. I turned off wifi sleep so that isn't the issue neither. How do i fix this? I'd love to have GingerVillian on my G2 but it's just not functioning properly for me. Any resolutions to this issue and i'll try again but for now i'm gonna restore my old OS
was it 1.5?, I think I had it work for me, when I get home I will reflash and post result.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
try rebooting it
I would agree, try rebooting. Just loaded 1.5 on my G2 and the wifi works here at home.
I got exactly the same problem after installing ad free, and titanium backup..
Don't know if any of those apss could result in such behavior.
Tried Fix Premissins through Rom Manager with no luck.
Tried also to uninnstall those programs, still no luck.
It seems like the phone dissconnects the wifi after a short while.
i have to re-enable it, but still no luck.
Enabling Wifi-tethering works though. the AP appears on other devices, an connects. Also enabling traffic passing through my 3g connection.

FYI, i called t-mobile and are sending a free replacement. now i just have to figure out how to revert to stock os
Flashed with CynogenMOD.
Works perfect untill i enable WIFI, then it boot cycles.
Rolled back to GingerVillian, Same problem as before.
Flashed my radio, and now it works perfect again.
Seems like a glitch in the radio image or something?
solution: newest Radio?
So which radio would you suggest?? I am having a problem with my wifi running the radio ending in 26, which I believe is from T-mobile.
I am not sure witch Radio you should pick,
I found mine under Phone specific tutorials.
My signature shows whitch i am currently using.
Go visit the phone specific forums and search for your newest radio in some of the tutorials.

[Q] [ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.1 - Texting / Service Stopped working

Last night I rooted and installed [ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.1 (Hajime-taisho) onto my Samsung Epic 4g and everything was working great last night. I was texting and using the phone just fine
Today, all of a sudden, texting stopped working and everything was not being sent.
Any suggestions?
Pay your sprint bill? =/
I actually did that once lol... had thought I had a bad flash.
There are multiple possible causes for that.
1.If you use a task killer either:
A. STOP, it's an unnecessary app that ruins Android's multitasking
OR
B. Exclude the MMS/Messaging app from it.
2. It could be an issue with Sprint service, try things like toggling Airplane mode for 5 minutes or even a full reboot.

[Q] Weird Wifi Issues - Zombie Mode

Hello,
I am having some rather particular issues with my Note 2.
About 2 months ago the GPS just wouldnt work. If you tried to turn it on it would crash the UI or OS .
I have been running Syndergy Rom r85 for over a year at this point and not serious changes to the phone ina while.
So I did a nandroid and started to tinker, a clean flash would fix the GPS issues.
So Backed up some apps and misc stuff and wiped the phone and reinstalled Synergy.
Every was peachie except for the following :
Using Wifi Tether V3.2 B2 M5 *Synergized its getting killed as the Wifi auto on's of its own accord.
Its not just when I tether I now have to check it throughout a day to make sure its not on. It isn't auto connecting to what it finds unless it is a network I have connected to before.
The only thing I am not 100% on is if I was running that version of the tether app.
So, is there a way to figure out whats turning my Wifi on? Is there a newer version of the tether app that will work with my N2 on a 4.1.2 ?
Thanks for any help

GPS turns off when 3G connection enabled

Hello.
this problem has been going on for a few months but I never really tried to fix it until a couple of days ago.
This is exactly what happens: I start my phone and try to get a GPS fix with any apps, as long as I don't have a 3G connection, it works flawlessly.
the moment I enable the 3G connection, the GPS fix is lost and never works again until I reboot. wifi, 2g, airplane mode, they all give me a perfect GPS fix. as soon as the little "H+" shows on the screen, the GPS dies until the next reboot.
the weirdest thing about it is that it happens with every single room I try. so far I've tried CM 12, 11 and 10. exact same problem
Tried PA4.5 and 4.6, again, the exact same thing.
I even tried going back to stock, first to 4.3, nothing.
right now I'm on stock 4.0.4 which is the oldest image I could find, flashed everything back to stock (except boot-loader and recovery)
I've wiped everything between each room flash, of course.
I'm running out of ideas here. any help would be very appreciated
quick update.
I decided to try a different sim card from another carrier, and guess what? GPS working perfectly
but sadly, I need to use my own sim card. after 3 days of flashing roms, I feel stupid for not trying this at first. anyway, I didn't know your sim card could enable or disable your GPS?
does anybody know anything about it?
