Will that be enough to warrant a replacement from Sprint? It's obviously a manufacturer's defect and a huge cosmetic flaw. Anything else I would have to tell them to get it replaced? I'm covered under the Total Equipment Protection plan, so I know everything other than water damage and total destruction is supposed to be free. My plan is to just say, "Hey, my phone has been like this since I got it, and I didn't think anything of it until I saw my friend's EVO with absolutely no light-leakage and realized what a huge defect this was. I feel this reflects poorly on the build-quality of the launch models, and I would like a new hardware revision if possible."
Edit: My screen glass is also slightly coming off in the lower right-hand corner, so light is even leaking straight out that way as well.
As long as they have a screen in stock, they will fix it for free. Make sure the store you take it to has a service department. They replaced mine for dust under the glass, so actual separation is a no-brainer to me. Mine is also a 002.

What do you mean a "screen in stock?" Are they going to physically replace the glass? There's nothing wrong with the screen itself.
(Damn, I keep hitting "thanks" instead of "quote.")
On my phone there was just dust under the glass. They replaced the whole thing because it is one assembly...LCD, digitizer, and glass including the outer black bezel. When I took mine in the tech said, "let me make sure we have a screen in stock", then said they did and to come back in an hour. Phone was good as new when I returned.
They will fix the glass if they have it in stock. they will take your apart, and reglue a new piece of glass. If they dont, they will order you a refurbished phone, which could have worse leakage than you have now.
I have dust under the screen as well, but haven't taken it in because I don't want to unroot the phone or get a refurb back...
if I call the service center that is near me and they have a screen, can I just make the phone look stock or do I have to unroot?

I took mine in fully rooted and running Fresh with Riptide's theme...not a word was said. Rooting would only be an issue if you were seeking a software related repair. Of course, there are those that say otherwise, so do whatchalike.
I'm running cm nightly, so I'll probably flash a stock look before going in.
Thanks

Hm. Not sure if I want to deal with the hassle of un-rooting and re-rooting if I'm not going to get a new device.

i do not see why they would need to replace the glass as well. im not about to loose my screen protector. i might just buy a lcd on ebay and do it myself. i also have white spots and severe light leakage.

You will definitely not get a new phone. I went through this with them about 2 months ago. I had a launch day Evo that had light leakage and the screen was loose on it. I was told it was pretty much normal in the store and they even told me it was not a known defect, how this is true is beyond me. Anyways, they send a replacement to me and it had worse light leakage than my original so I had to take it to the store to prove this Sprint. After that I had to sit on the phone forever with Customer service and they finally shipped another replacement. Well guess what... it had light leakage as well. So, in the end I took the one that had the least light leakage but it still has some. They are going to want to replace your screen or a refurb. I even went through retention to try and get a new phone which is like the highest up you can go through customer service and they wouldn't even give me a new one. So, if I were you keep what you have because more than likely a replacement is going to have leakage as well. Hope this helps some, but unfortunately HTC likes to crank out Evo's so fast that the quality control isn't the best.
You shouldn't have a problem. Sprint will try to fix it. There are pretty bad light leakage problems from a detached screen causing the glass to rise up and not sit flush. If this is what you are experiencing, Sprint will fix it. The next thing they would do is just give you a refurbished phone or a NIB (new in box). The latter is obviously best but go in. The worst they will do is give your phone back to you and tell you to go through Asurion but I doubt that.
Light leaking is not keeping your phone from working so there would be no replacement.

I might try it. I'm going to be jumping ship on the 20th, anyways. A newer EVO could make a $50 difference on eBay, and it wouldn't matter if my warranty was voided due to being rooted. I'll leave CM6.1 on there for ****s and giggles.

My phone was in my pocket today and somehow the screen has cracked. Its not the actual glass though and the touchscreen still works. Is it worth sending it in to HTC or could a mobile phone shop repair it?
Thanks
Can anyone help?
As long as you bought it from Staples, and took one of the protection plans with it, I'd say that you've got nothing to worry about. But my guess is that you haven't bought it that way simply because you've posted this.
I really don't think HTC's gonna own up to this. Although, I'm sure someone would be ready to exchange that if you throw in some money.
Oh, and just a tip.... Don't let that ANYWHERE near water. It's to do with how a capacitive touch screen works.
BTW, could I just ask how exactly it broke? Did you slip... or was the phone in your back pocket... was it in a tight pocket... were you mugged... That sort of suff.
Looks like you have dropped it as there is damage to the casing as well as the screen.

I did not drop it. That damage was done previously and is limited to the removable battery cover.
Anyone else?
Get a quote from your local mobile shop..or if your insured then they should cover it
do you get to fix it?
So my S3 has a couple of little scratches on the top of the phone that are pretty annoying. I went down to the mobile shop where I bought the phone to see if they could replace it under my extended warranty but they told me they can't, but that I could make a decent case to Samsung since the screen is supposed to be scratch-resistant, it's a new phone, and yet there's a couple of tiny scratches on my screen.
Has anyone tried something like this before? I'm going to give them a call later but wanted to check here first to see if anyone has tried it and if they succeeded.
Thanks

you cant just return your phone because it has a couple small scratches.. just like you cant return your car because it has some light scratches...
i just Bought my LG G3 Yesterday ,
it was used gently, as i appreciate the feeling of a new device in my hands like any geek,
i did not drop it ( no need to justify here )
i took my G3 to show off a friend and i asked people were in the room if anyone noticed that my phone fell in the past few minutes - one of them is working in a cellular shop and he immediately brought me the news that he already knows what happened by my response because some one who bought g3 from his store came back with the exact same crack and claim he did not drop the phone at all as well.
so i have a broken Lens, camera cant take photos right and i am Deeply disappointed By Lg as i was expecting a higher build quality,
i might be the first to report but just - wait for it ,
people will Google the problem and i am just the first to let you know.

I don't believe it. Your friends lied.

It doesn't just crack I dropped mine off a balcony 3 floors onto some rocks and it broke the screen of my F400S and some other stuff, but the lens was fine. Hence why I have a D850 but lenses don't just crack.

I just had the same thing happen to mine. Not sure how or why it happened but it did. It was in my hot car turned off for an hour or so and then when I got home ours later, I noticed it. It has never been dropped or hit.
i think someone hijacked your phone... lol friends are friends...

It is a very, very small chance that it happened by itself - BUT if the glass was fitted in the phone, and was made with too high tension; it COULD technically brake "on its own". However, very rare for this to happen...
I just tried pressing my lens with my thumb, with quite a lot of pressure - didnt do anything
Anyone know where I can get a replacement lense or where to be looking for them when they come available? Talked to LG and they said they could repair but it would take 2 weeks and they could not tell me what it would cost. I can use my camera because my glass is completely gone over the camera, I would just like to get something over it to keep dust out.

I just bought an LCD separator machine send it to me I need practice lol. I seen someone else say the sent there's into lg and cost $150 to fix. You could always get a square trade warranty and go that route

If I could just find a thin 1/2 inch diameter piece of glass, I could fix it myself. Problem is finding the glass. Would not be hard at all to fix and like I said my camera works perfectly fine.
I just had the exact same thing happen. Phone was fine last night. Set it on night stand before bed. Showered and got ready in the morning. No drops. Got in the car in the morning and touched something jaggedy when I was stopped at a light. Weiiiird. Looks exactly like OP's pic. Luckily I paid for insurance since it's included in T-Mobile's jump program, so hopefully they'll swap it out.
It is one of the areas of the phone which get hotter from use, but I find that an unlikely factor in causing that problem.

Yeah, I'm really at a loss. I kept it in the bathroom as I showered, but it doesn't get that hot/humid...not enough that one would think it'd make a substantial difference.
Hate to say it, but my lens just cracked as well about an hour ago. I went to take the phone off my desk, and it kinda slipped from my fingers. The phone never made it completely off the desk. The two bottom corners were still touching, and the top half maybe a few cm off. Nothing I would ever consider a drop. When I flipped the phone around, to my surprise the lens was cracked. I don't know what to say? Any other phone I've owned in the past this wouldn't have happened to it in this very same situation.

Yeah, man. My old HTC M7...I always run skinless, treat my phones like dirt. Dropped it maybe three times onto concrete from waist height, nothing. So this is pretty gnarly.
Update on T-Mobile, they basically said that they'd take it back under warranty IF it's a manufacturer's defect. But because it's physical damage, they'll probably flag it as user error and charge me for it. I'm claiming manufacturer's defect because I swear this happened spontaneously without a drop whatsoever. So now I basically have to call LG directly, and I'd probably be up for a fight. If anyone here has experience or advice it'd be greatly appreciated.
Same Issue
Hey, I had the same issue with the AT&T version, ended up having to send it back along with my powermat (since I assumed that might have caused the crack). They repaired it without charge since they determined that it was indeed a manufacture defect. So if you have something similar it is probably a manufacture defect, and hopefully they will make a note of this soon.

I just looked at my phone last night and I have the same issue. I'm on att and I'm going to call them today to see if they will repair it for me. I'm a bit upset honestly. The camera world buy the broken glass distorts the pictures and makes them look foggy. Julz05 who did you send it back to? LG or AT&T?
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.

I sent it back to LG. I called the LG service number and explained the problem, they issue a RA# and you have to send it to their warehouse. Took them almost 2 weeks to fix the phone, and they are just mailing it back now
I wanted to come back and post an update for my circumstance just in case any in the future needs to do the same.
Unfortunately I couldn't send my unit back to att or lg because my water damage sticker had been tripped. I had my phone in my pocket and I went on a ride in an amusement park and didn't realize we want under waterfalls! Needless to say I got soaked and water seeped into the phone but after sticking it in rice overnight I was lucky enough to not have water damage besides the tripped sensor. I went on a search and found a seller on eBay selling the top piece which includes the camera lens cover, power/volume rocker. It cost $38 plus $6 shipping and took about a week to get to me. To replace it was fairly easy. Removed 7 screws and unsnapped the old part and then applied the new piece.
One thing to note: the original piece States 850 in various areas and the new piece States 855. However it is the same exact part and for $44 I replaced itself myself without having to be without my phone. Here are some pictures :

Just found this thread after my UK D855 did exactly the same, I've had it several months. found Replacement parts on ebay
Exact Same Problem
Hi - today I found the exact same fault in my phone. Like other posts here, I did not drop it or get any impact on the phone.
I am in New Zealand and am really disappointed in what I thought was otherwise a great phone. I now have to waste my time trying to establish whether I have any cover for this problem and also realise that it looks like impact damage and technicians will claim it was my fault.
I think this is a manufacturing fault and reading here confirms that something is very wrong here.
Thanks.
I have the Tab S 32 Gig in Titanium Bronze, I'm on my fourth unit. The first one had a bad speaker, the second one a bad power switch the third on after less than 2 weeks I noticed the back of the unit having what looked like my handprint from where I hold the unit. I tried to wipe it off and it wouldn't come off. as a matter of fact the area that was duller also had a rougher texture to it than the rest of it. I thought wow how crazy this has to be a defect in this tablet there is no way my hands did that. The plastic was even softer in this area I actually scratched it with the flick of my finger going forward.. So I returned that one. I inspected the new one at the store and it was fine. Now that I have had it less than a week the same thing is happening again. My hands aren't sweaty or oily or anything like that. I work with steel all day and if my hand were an issue I'd now it. I called Samsung's customer support and he as well as the Samsung rep at best Buy are telling me to return it again. I'm like why bother it's going to happen again. Even the demo at the store was showing signs of this. The Samsung customer service rep said get another and gave me a case number and told me if it happens again to call back.
Any one else notice this issue?
I bought mine from Costco and it came with a flip cover for free so the back is always covered by the lid when I'm using it so I have no idea.
What is that back made of. It feels like metal with some kind of plastic coating.
Either the place your getting the tab s from has defective tablets or it could be caused by the heat of the tablet causeing part of the back to make that mark. I fixed my heat problem in which the heat from the tablet could be causing it. I have a bump that bumps out a bit idk why. When I fixed my heating problems i dont have anymore ploblems.
My SM-700 back is doing same thing. :/
My 10.5 seems to be fine. No wear problems that I can see.

Samsung had me return it to Best Buy but it was less than a week old at least this unit was. I'm watching it carefully. I would call Samsung customer service because I believe there is a problem that they need to be made aware of and maybe they'll do something for you. Let me know please if they do.
I was very careful with the with the one before this latest one the only thing that I can think of is that Once while charging and the tab was on it got pretty warm, I'm wondering if the heat may have affected it when I picked it up.

I'm not sure if it was your post but a post near the top a person mentioned bumps on the back of their unit from heat.
