[Q] Stock Radio? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Back-story time. I live in Philadelphia and have always had great coverage. Fine on the G1 and no different on the G2, until I used an app called Network. Now my signals popping in and out of Edge and Hsdpa constantly and I have very low speeds. My cell standby averages 60% in battery use and time without signal always says 50%. Is there a stock radio I can flash I'm Permanent rooted. I need this running smoothly for CM. Any help would help. Thanks.

Evo 3G really slow, connecting from out of state?

Hello, I have noticed that ever since I have gotten my EVO that the 3G speeds are insanely slow. I've ran speedtests all over the Los Angeles area and they average download speed never exceeds 1 Mbps. Anyways, I have been without proper internet since I have moved, so I have been USB tethering to my PC. This has compelled me to look into the slow 3G matter more. I ran a speedtest from my PC browser and noticed that the central server(gold star) it recommends is in KS and im in CA. This is suggesting that the best speedtest is in KS, meaning that I am probably getting 3G connection out of state
Is this even possible? And how can I adjust my 3G connection?
Well there are never radios which could potentially help, but a lot of that data speed just varies.

Thanks for the suggestiom, i've already updated the PRI, WiMax and Radio to the latest(I never read about NV or HBoot updares, so i'll stay away from those for the time being). I just updated to the deodexed version of the latest rooted HTC sense 3.70 update. Results have been constant from stock up until this point though.
Yea my 3g at times are like but I notice it when I flash different radios & prl from new to old they say u should always stay updated but notice the best results when I use the old radio n old prl but now I use the old radio and the new prl 1.90 get results n u should playing with the home agents

I would have agree with the OP. I live in the Atlanta GA area and typically where I would I get 5+ bars of signal, but I get speeds averaging .600 mbps, its ridiculous. With my old Hero I would always get +1.5 mbps in the same area. Now there have been times where I would get 1.5 to 2.1 mbps on my Evo on 3G... but a lot of the times it would only last for a day or 2. Then I come back to work the next morning and these speeds are back to being craptastic even while still displaying 5+ bars.
At home its always been worse. But I would still be able to run Pandora and run a 4 minute or less youtube video on regular quality without too much stutter. Now I wouldn't dare use data like that on my Evo w/o flipping on WiFi now though. Its pretty ridiculous at this point...

[Q] Random loss of T-Mobile network connection, not just data

Wondering if anyone else with a GSM GNex on T-Mobile is having random connectivity losses?
It's quite rare (that I see it at least) so it's hard to identify a source or pattern. It seems that at random, I'll turn on my phone and there will be NO phone connection. After the screen is on for 15 seconds, the connection restores with T-Mobile, followed by 3g etc. The signal is great in the same location, so I don't think it's poor network signal quality.
This is stock 4.0.1, rooted, but no other fancy stuff. I do have SetCPU with a conservative governor with screen off, 350-700 range.
Yes, although I am in the UK with TMo, I have seen signal strength fluctuate randomly on its own. I have also seen the signal strengths fluctuate when left overnight in the same place....
Sometimes I have only been able to get back the good signal only by rebooting the device, but yes, I have seen similar behaviour from this phone..
I can confirm this behaviour, however only with the combination of 4.0.3 and XXKK1. With XXKK6, this bug seems to be gone. Yet, the phone stays on H all the time and does not switch back to 3g when idling.

Yes, I was wondering if anyone else had the "reboot to regain any signal" situation too.
I had recently done some Tmobile account changes to others in my family plan (not my own), so I was unsure if this was related.

Hmmm... continuous mobile signal = good. On H all the time = bad.
There's no way to win here! =P

Losing is not an option either!
We'll see how development progresses...
I get the same thing here also in canada on bell mobility, my signal will out of nowhere drop every bar.

What radio are you on?
I get the same problem. The signal will just die and comes back a min or two later.
I flashed with the Baseband of I920XXKK1.
Franco kernal 3.0.8-franco.Kernel-4.0.3
Build IML74K.
GHM24 - are you saying I should update baseband to I9250XXKK6?
You are having good luck with that?

[Q] Huge difference in battery life between Rogers and Telus

So i was using my HSPA galaxy nexus on Rogers network in Canada for about 7 weeks, and getting quite excellent battery life (~36hours of how i use it).
I have now switched to Telus, and for the same locations and use, i'm lucky to get 20hours out of it after 2 weeks. Same phone, same software, same amount of time on wifi, etc.
looking @ the battery stats, i guess the mobile standby is higher, but not stupidly high.
Has anyone else noticed this? I know there are differences based on idle timers in the radio network etc, but i'd really like to be able to do something about this. And unfortunately moving back to Rogers is not an option I have.
Rogers has 2g network, Telus does not. When you're using wifi, you don't need rogers' data so you're on their 2g network + wifi. With telus, you have no network to fall back on = 3g + wifi. Hence, more battery drain.

[Q] ICS radios and cell signal of ROM

I been using AOKP for the past week and I have done quite a bit of traveling within WA state. My signal strength on GB roms used to be great without any problems. this is my first ICS rom and also the first time i have flashed radios on it. so far, the signal has been very poor, never any better than -97 db and usually -113 db regardless where I am. I have lost service while traveling and it was nearly impossible to regain service. i have been with other tmobile users that had service on their phones when i had none. i have tried three different radios and all showed the same results. also my gps is nolonger accurate as it shows my position several blocks from where it should. having reliable service and gps are my priorities as i travel all over and would like to get this working properly. when i do have service, my speeds seem just fine but the coverage is just really poor from what I am used to getting. does the rom have an effect on the signal strength or is it completely dependant on the radio?am I doing something wrong? thanks for any help.

i had a problem similar to yours..my phone would take around 5 -10 mins after every reboot to get signals..and even then it only got 2 or 3 bars at most. btw this started after i started to flash ics roms/radios. i could never get it fixed and so i had to get rid of my phone
well that is reassuring...any other suggestions?
alot of people are saying that the blaze radio works very well up in the northern half of the sates. i personally havent tried this myself but maybe it could work for you?? make sure to run DS clear cache before any flashing.
if it was my phone and i saw that it kept getting worse and worse, i would just use odin to flash the stock tar file to get back into a fresh stock gs2 with stock radios then just root it again and dont mess with the radios.
hope that helps some. good luck
I'm having the same issue. Can't find a solution. Tried several different ROMs and radios. I've found if you turn off wifi and reboot it enough times you can get it to pick up eventually but this is annoying and I'm trying to figure out a permanent solution.

Signal on different software updates - input please !

Seems the best signal i had was on stock 11a software. At my house it would stay around -82dbm on 4g, sometimes as good as -78dbm. Now the best i see is -85dbm at my house. Also seems to stay on 3g longer, maybe to not waste power on constantly figuring out which radios to utilize. Either way, stock seems to be so much better signal. The previous rooted versions seem to have much more unstable signal (at least on my phone, by my experience, running xposed and other zips zia flashfire). How is the signal on the rooted 13b ?
I'd kill for 85 dbm! lol The best I've ever seen in my house is 95 dbm, but it's usually between 102-107 dbm. I swear I must have lead in my ceiling!
My parents' house has 4g 500ft away, but at their house you are LUCKY to pull any bit of 3g out of the air. 1x and cell service mostly. Im in the boonies, but have a tower within 1000 ft roughly. Im pretty lucky. It just seems the 11a had a little more signal pull. All in all, the signal has been pretty good. I think motorola makes the best radios for cells reception wise however.
