[Q] Tasker's location context is displaying weirdness - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using Takser (ver 1.0.12). I am seeing a weird issue with the location contexts. When I am at work, the profile loads. The GPS satellite symbol disappears. Then seconds later, it exits the task. This happens each time I swipe the screen.
Is it something to do with Tasker? Or the phone's GPS?

[Q] GPS oddities with Froyo

Anyone else get this? Can you try please?
If I start up the GPS from settings (or the power widget) I don't get the little notification icon (the one that looks like a satellite dish) on the bar at the top of the home screen (or it only appears for a second then goes.)
However, if GPS is enabled and I start up maps, navigation or something like Wikitude, then the notification does display (and the app instantly gives me my location.)
Was it always so? I have a memory that under 2.1 when turned on, it displayed the notification icon when no relevant app was used and indeed of it telling me no GPS lock as I was indoors? So has it gone from a "Select On" state (in which it was enabled and notification was shown even if no app requiring it was enabled) to a sort of "background mode" in which it only shows the notification (and thus actually works?) if an app which requires it is used?
But aren't there uses for location that aren't to do with actual apps?
Someone? Press that button and tell me if the notification flag shows if you aren't in an app.
The notification only comes up if an app is requesting a location.
This was the same in 2.1 although most of the time when you start the gps, it's from within the app rather than in settings so the location is requested immediately.
Hi,
as far as I remember it was like this on 2.1, too.
And I think it's right, you activate GPS and when it's actually used you get notified.

GPS activating very briefly at odd times. Can I check a log of activity?

I've noticed that my GPS is activating intermittently. Sometimes when I turn on the screen, I notice that the GPS icon (that shouldn't have been on) goes off. Just the other day I was about to put down my phone and the GPS icon flicked on and off very quickly.
Of course it is possible that this is some sort of Google service or something perfectly legitimate, but I'm getting a bit suspicious.
Is there any way of pulling out a log of what apps/services have used the GPS and when?
Do you have any apps that may be using a GPS connection in the background to update your location, like a weather app or Facebook places?
If you go to settings>>location and security, is Use GPS Satellites ticked?
if so untick it and this should stop.
Run "Spare Parts" (I can see you're using CyanogenMod 7, so you should have this app in your App Drawer) and see what's going on in "Battery History", "GPS usage".
Other than that is your GPS behaving as expected when running location-aware apps (like Maps, for example), or are you experiencing slow satellite locks, etc.?

wierd thing, when i wake my phone from sleep sometimes i see gps icon on status bar..

wierd thing, when i wake my phone from sleep sometimes i see gps icon on status bar for 1-2 seconds then it disappears.
i'm a little paranoid... it's wierd that the gps seems to be turning on while my phone is sleeping, could this be a symptom of someone doing something on my phone while its sleeping?
anyone ever heard of this before?
Many apps and services like to have access to your location in the background.
If you have allowed GPS to be an available source of location data you will see the icon appear when the app or service is polling.
I would disallow GPS from being used and just let it triangulate your rough location by mobile data/wifi info.
I posted how to change this setting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192160

"Location Found"

Why does my phone always say "Location Found" in the notifications? I cannot even swipe it away.
You must have Location set to "High Accuracy". The system will try to find your location constantly. If you're in a location where it's hard to get a lock, whether because there is no GPS or network signal, the system will take a LONG time trying to find your location. It cannot be swiped away but you can try clearing your currently running programs to see if that helps.
I changed my Location setting from "High Accuracy" to "Battery Saving" and I have not have any issues with that. It also almost eliminated the heating issues I was having, where it felt like I had a small, portable furnace in my pocket whenever the phone would switch out of 4G into 3G or 1x. I have also found that update 13B is much more stable and has improved my battery life.
Hope that helps.
Location Found Notification
When I open Waze it needs my location turned on to accurately navigate, and that turns on that notification. If I tap on that notification, and tap on Waze in the list, and force stop Waze the notification goes away until the next time I use Waze. :good:

HELP! Location/GPS stops working when recording video

Can someone please try to reproduce the following issue?
Location stops working when an app is recording video. I've tried several car dashcam apps (like DailyRoads Voyager) and they all seem to break location services somehow. When a video-recording app is running, location seems to revert to either low-accuracy mode or just stops updating entirely (the location statusbar icon turns from the normal white/bright to gray/inactive). This happens with the camera app, too.
To test this issue, start recording a video and drive around a few hundred feet. If the status bar location icon stays grayish/inactive, then the issue is happening.
