I got the HD7 for the wife this weekend (Wallmart) and was thinking the Venue Pro will blow it out of the water (look wise and the AMOLED vs SLCD).
So I got the Venue pro today and I have to say I'm not that convinced. When I placed the phones side by side, I could see a blueish tint on the AMOLED screen, the SLCD had much warmer look.
But the picture looked much sharper on the AMOLED, in the HD7 the pictures were kind of faded. So what did you guys choose? The HD7 or the Venue Pro.. and why?
HD7
Pro
1. In most places I like the SLCD (warmer colors) (SLCD some say is better than AMOLED)
2. Sleeker
3. 4.3in screen is awesome
4. 16 Gig
5. Cam is better with more options for both still and videos
Cons
1. I hate the plastic back
2. Too much similar to HD2
3. The pictures do look faded
4. The buttons doesn't have any protrusion. I find it very diff to turn on/off the phone and activate the cam.
Venue Pro:
Pro:
1. Physical Keyboard
2. The screen (AMOLED) has much better contrast and looks sharper
3. Has great looks
4. Gorilla Glass
5. The speakers in this is better than HD7. The bass is very good. But even though it has two 'grills' in the bottom only one is a speaker.
5a. Speaker in this is fantastic (Check the Videos). Better than iPhone
Cons:
1. Bulky (compared to HD7)
2. The whites have a bluish tint (when compared side by side)
3. 8 gig memory (right now is MS store. Once Dell offers the 16gig model, I'll remove this)
3a. There is a Micro SD slot but you need some prongs to pry it out. But you don't need to unscrew or remove any body parts. It just sit behind a black sticker.4. No LED notification lights. No lights when it's charging or running out of battery or missed calls or new messages.
More info on WP 7:
You can change the volume (up and down) with the screen turned off. This works in both HD7 and VP
Also when you turn it on, the top part of the lock screen has the music control. So you don't have to unlock it to pause the music.
iPhone head set works. Volume control and pick/end button.
No custom ring tones
Applications don't freeze state when the phone locks/sleeps
Some of the VP which were shipped as "Engineering Samples". Folks who have this please check you WiFi connetion

Wish I could vote but the Venue Pro has been almost impossible to come by, since it was only availalbe in MS stores and in limited quantities, you are definitely one of the lucky ones! And I think the HD7 has a normal LCD screen and as you confirm its not that great, also the Dell will be available in a 16GB version next week. Have you compared the cameras between the 2? What about speed-wise, how do they compare? Does the slider feel tight or loose?
According to Expansys the Venue Pro has 1GB internal memory with a micro sd slot?

HD7 has SLCD which is diff from normal TFT one and it shows. If you compare HD2 with HD7 (screen wise) HD7 far far superior.
Speed wise both feel the same. Though I have used the VP only couple of hrs. I'll go home and check the camera.
The slider is awesome. It's tight and feels sturdy.

nope, it has 8GB and no micro sd slot.
I would probably go for the Dell Venue Pro as the screen is much nicer and the screen is tougher.
The physical keyboard is a bonus.

Updates? Also, I see you are on At&T...Does your 3g and data work with the phone unlocked? Thanks
OP, you got a couple things wrong.
The HD7 only has one speaker up front and it sounded pretty bad when I tested it out this morning.
The Venue Pro has the option of 8GB or 16GB of NAND memory. This means things will load much quicker than on the HD7. The HD7 can go up to 32GB, though, however you risk voiding your warranty or even damaging your phone.
venue pro for me
besides...
-i dont get the bulky vs hd7 part...
venue pro <-> hd7
2.5 x 4.8 x 0.6 in <-> 2.68 x 4.8 x 0.44 in
=
-0.18 x same x +0.16
-there are 2 options for the venue pro... 8gb flash // 16gb flash
the venue pro is the most beautiful wp7 imo.
hd7 is like you said too similar to the hd2... they got even the pinky camera like the hd2
imo since the hd2 htc went the way of quantity instead of quality.

I just posted pictures with side by side comparing the thickness. Venue Pro is no way bulky. But when you compare it with HD2 it is atleast 1/3 thicker.
Thanks for all the info. Can you also check this, is bing the search provider in IE? The HD7 uses google whuch is strange to me. Thanks.
How is the picture taking and video recording quality in comparison? Is one better than the other?
does the venue pro box states the weight of the device?
weird cause clove.co.uk states that european version does have an micro sdhc card slot.
also is the curvature in the glass of vp a pain the ass or actually a good feature according to you?

Hell yeah, so when I order this from T-Mobile, there will be zero T-Mobile branding?
Also, to OP, can you do a quick video of the Venue Pro? Kind of like an unboxing, show how the battery pops off, how long it takes to boot up, what pre-installed apps there are, speaker test, video test, ect?

Yes, there will be no branding. No, you will not be able to order it from T-mobile. It was only available in Microsoft Retail Stores(B&M)and should be available directly from Dell next week.

A) what do you folks think of that concept ^
B) what would you do if you could design the HTC Touch Pro 3?

Wow... that looks like a genuinely decent replacement for the Rhodium. As far as the exterior hardware goes, I would definitely love something like that to replace the Rhodium! The milled aluminum/white ABS plastic body, combined with the rounded sides and sharp edges immediately make me think of one of the new MacBooks. If that existed right now and would get a WM7 upgrade, I would definitely consider purchasing it (as long as it isn't powered by a Qualcomm MSM7xxx)
haha, I should have added some specs shouldnt I?
If I had my way:
Windows Phone 7 Series
GSM & CDMA versions available
1GB RAM
16GB Storage (stupid WP7S wont support memory cards ¬_¬)
Snapdragon 1.5GhZ processor (at least)
4" AMOLED screen
High quality Stereo Speakers
Front 2 mp camera
Back 5 mp camera
(If I was going to do real photography, I would use a camera, not a cameraphone so I dont think anything larger than 5mp is really needed)
GPRS/HSDPA etc
WIFI/Bluetooth (no wimax, because seriously.. whos gonna need it?)
3.5mm Headphone jack
Dedicated camera button on the side (the on-screen one is annoying)
Also as an afterthought I would have removed the notification LEDs
and placed them internally near the top, so the HTC logo glows when you have a text / have wifi on / new message etc
wow, the very bottom two corner picture looks like a DS Lite..it was cool until I saw that
whatever the TP3 may be, I just want it to run WP7S better than any phone in the market when it releases, and available at T-Mobile w/ a price point like the HD2 release
I like your version of the TP3! Looks nice.
Scott
Make it the same size/weight as the Diamond (including slide out keyboard)
battery life the same as a Nokia 1100 (or perhaps a Ford Anglia)
1GB RAM plus built in 16GB storage
"N" internet speeds guaranteed
And a request, a Personal Microwave Generator to heat up the cups of coffee that go cold whilst playing.
mate
awesome design, we should send this to htc and maybe...just maybe....they might throw out whatever prototype tp3 they have and replace it with this one =) love the white body
just 3 points:
1) i take it on one corner will be the stylus housing?
2) perhaps a flash for the camera? i miss the "torch" function...which can actually be offset by lighting up your screen....but it's kinda nifty
3) kudos on the storage capacity spec of 16gb....or maybe we can bump this to 32
cheers

lol I like how your 2 points became 3
my response:
1) there wouldnt be a stylus because lets face it Windows Phone 7 doesnt really need one and also it would be a capacitive screen anyway, so it would have to be some kinda funky stylus or a sausage
2) If they included a flash it would have to be a real decent one because ive never seen a cameraphone flash which has been any help
3) lol i dont want to push my luck
I would design it like that but with android since windows is pretty much dead...Or will be soon.

no wm7. android or bust. wm7 is so restrictive, you dont want it.
Besides faster processor and more memory - A Track Ball!!!
Yeah that looks awesome!!
Something with the HD2's massive screen and 1GHz processor would be awesome. Plus a good/big hardware keyboard. I also hope there is a decent graphics chip, as that would really enhance performance.
I would be thrilled if there was an Android option too.. but judging by HD2/Supersonic it looks like Android may lag behind in release.
And yeah, trackball (or some sort of joystick/d-pad) is one of those excellent overlooked features (very grateful to have one on my Nexus One).

I didn't know we were allowed to post pr0n in the forums, but whatever!
These renders do a great job of putting a visual form on the same fantasy that many of us here have had...an HD2 with just that extra few mm of thickness, and the mid-waist split that could only mean one thing; a dancepad for the thumbs (aka "hardware keyboard")
Well Cris, when HTC finally wizens up and decides to officially release this monster, we'll remember where the design first saw the light of day!
This poll is created to see how popular each of those WP7 devices are.
Personally, I don't like WP7 because of its unattractive UI look (and that's my opinion). But if I had to choose one WP7 device, it would be Samsung Focus. That is IF it's true that the keyboard is more impressive than the stock Android keyboard, as said by some reviewers/editors. But if that's not true, then I would go with Dell Venue Pro or HTC 7 PRO (cuz both has a physical QWERTY keyboard).
Now, which WP7 device would be your fav. one? Also, pls vote and explain why!
(So, most people like HD7. Simply because of its big screen, but besides that what device-feature would also turn people on?)
I'm torn.
HTC Surround because it HTC and its on AT&T which I already have.
HD7 because of the screen.
LG Quantum because of the DLNA, and again, it's on AT&T.
Trophy looks nice but not available in US to my knowledge.
Put those all together with a 1.5 ghz dual core, add an HDMI out and you've got the perfect phone.

rolling with the samsung
samsung is the one for me Super AMOLED 4 inch screen just the right size, the super thin, and the best feature of all external sd after adding my 32 gb sd card will have the largest storage available of 40gb!!!
For me on Tmobile it'll naturally be the HD7 or the Venue. I've ALWAYS had a qwerty keyboard for the longest I can remember when they first popped up, which draws me to the Venue, but the sleek slim-ness of the HD7 is also appealing. At the end of the day I'm set on the Venue unless the on-screen keyboard blows me away to want to replace a physical keyboard, which I doubt, but only time will tell.

Source pelase? The only confirmed one with expandable memory up to 40gb is the Cetus, not the Omnia7. Though, if you swap the microsd, you'll be factory resetting the whole thing. ><
Back to the thread I'd go for the 16gb version of the Omnia7. Reviews of the HD7 state that the old screen tech really shows, not comparable to IPS, SLCD and AMOLED. Thought the screen is big

LG uses QSD8650 wich is also 1st generation with 65nm technology. Wish there could be some units with the MSM8x55 chipset with 45nm technology and better gpu. I guess we will see that in models coming out in spring. It's pretty clear all the manufacturers are just releasing models that are up to microsofts minimum specs in the first wave just so they have something "new" to release in spring. It's not surprising they want to make as much money as possible.
As for the question in the thread. I would probably choose LG Optimus 7 just for the 16GB storage and the DLNA feature. If all phones had DLNA i would choose Samsung Omnia 7 or HTC 7 Mozart.
I'm on an HD2 at the mo and out of the 3 that I can get in the UK (HD7, Mozart, Trophy) the Mozart gets my attention the most. The HD7 is an HD2 with less buttons, a kickstand and WinMo7, the Trophy is smaller but still only has a 5mp camera, the Mozart has an alluminium chasis and an 8mp camera as well as being smaller than the HD7 so thats the best out of the 3 for me as I either wanted the same spec in a smaller package or better spec in the same package.
for me it'd be the Pro, but that's out 2011, and it'll be tough to wait
it's hard to choose. either the Trophy, or the Mozart, or the HD7...
You left one out.
HTC HD7 PRO.
This is the phone that I would choose.
The HTC 7 PRO is sort of like my HTC Touch Pro2 in size. That is why I would not want to choose that one. If I was new to the smartphone and this would be my first smartphone, then I would most likely choose the HTC 7 PRO. But, This would be my 4th HTC purchase. From the HTC TOUCH, to HTC TOUCH PRO, to HTC TOUCH PRO2 ( 2 of them, 1 for my wife & 1 for me ), and now awaiting the next purchase of an HTC phone.
HTC Desire HD
HTC HD7 please
I'm currently using HD2. I think i'd probably go for the HD7 Pro, but at first glance I don't like the UI and none of the WP7s have a card slot and are limited to 8 or 16gb.
Will probably stay away from WP7 to be honest.
showdown: these 2 seem to pretty much be the pick of the bunch launch devices. which one do you prefer and why?
Venue. I like the bigger screen and the dual speakers. Keyboard I'm fine with or without.
Im usually a sucker for Cool screens, and since the Onmia has a SuperAMOLED screen i originally was thinking of getting that one. But the Venue looks awesome and since its got an AMOLED screen already, i can deal with that But what i Really am interested in with the venue pro is...
THE CURVED GLASS THINGY MAJIG
except.. im kinda skeptical about the chrome. I have a cowon s9 and it has chrome sides and its actually just plastic with chrome painted over and its kinda showing in some scratch marks.

I think the display and battery life is really good on the Samsung and as I wouldn't use the physical keyboard then I personally would go for the Samsung.

so I expect some decent battery despite the screen size
when it comes out in America I will never know but I hope its out the same time as the hd7...
I love my hd2 with android and ubuntu but I need a keyboard due to sheer laziness I suppose also because I am a heavy texter
Venue Pro all the way;
Bigger Screen (4.1" vs 4")
Gorilla Glass
Hardware Keyboard
More ROM (1GB)
SD Card Slot (hence up to 40GB storage)
Cheaper
Can't see any advantages at all to the Omnia.

If you're happy with 16GB and no expansion, and the old-style LCD display with its washed-out colours, and you don't need a hardware keyboard, then the HD7 is a good choice. But you have to sign up to a 2 year contract for it.

Not bad, but what's the deal with PAYG data? I'm on Virgin Mobile, paying a SIM Only monthly rate of £15 for infinite texts, unlimited internet and more minutes than I ever use (300 I think). That's a monthly rolling "contract" so I can change my phone whenever I like.
Plus, wouldn't the phone be locked into O2? Can WP7 phones be unlocked?
Don't forget these phones suck up a helluva lot of data, strikes me PAYG could require a second mortgage...
Try out giffgaff as a PAYG provider. Virtual network running on O2, run by some ex-O2 execs.
You'll get the same 300 minutes for £15 with unlimited internet and texts.
If the HD7 is locked to O2, it should still work on giffgaff (e.g. an old t-mobile locked phone I had worked fine on Virgin)

I really wanted to prefer the Dell Streak (I have a long commute) - but after trying out a HD7 for around 10 mins I found the OS to be just so slick and a nice place to be, that I have to have one.
The fact that the Venue Pro has a expandable micro sdhc slot and a keyboard just makes it perfect for me
RON
I think the Venue is the BlackBerry Style of Windows Phone 7, that device just stands out so much from the crowd, in a very bad way, it looks so thick and ugly... I am not a huge fan of Samsung products, but the Omnia looks pretty sexy
I am wondering if any manufacturers are going to be different anytime soon? I am hoping that by July we will see a little "fragmentation" i.e. we have tegra 2 phone with 32GB data and a SAMOLED screen.
Or is chassis 1 very, very strict, that we are only going to see specs x.
well MS has set all minimum specs, but I'm guessing that for things like CPU, MS should define what manufacturers can use as they're all too scared to just put any chip in without causing damage to the WP image. Most of the variations at present can really come from the camera, on board memory (and sd slot), and the screen type. Everything else you'll find to be quite similar at this stage, but hopefully MS defines the other 2 chassis type so that more variations can come about.
Meh, its annoying that the closest to what I want is a slider.
I plan on never having a slider again after seeing pretty much every person who owned a slider(including me) have it break. Conditions don't seem to suit sliders much.
16GB, 4" AMOLED screen, SD slot and audio quality coming out of the phone that is just as good the the Zune HD's.
Omnia 7 just misses it by no SD slot, 16GB almost impossible to get in SA, and the audio out seems to have missed all the low bass?!
I use quality headphones + an amp, or I plug my phone into my speaker system or my car. I will notice those frequencies...
Though one thing I do not care for, definately goes to speaker quality, neer really cared about that.
Agree! if just ONE manufacture put their whole effort into 1 of their WP7 phones, it would wipe the floor with the competition and give us all an obvious choice when it comes to selecting a wp7 phone. instead, the choice is difficult and they are technically no better than the 18 month old HD2 if just one of these new phones had for example a front facing camera, 32gb nand memory or more... ive no doubt it would be everyones pick.
I think the Samsung Omnia is the best device, however its a shame that it only comes with 8GB memory and no way to expand it.

I love this phone all except for slider if it was as slim as the HD7 I would not hesitate in getting one. The 4.1 AMOLED screen is just right and 16 GB memory will get me buy for now.
if i was patient enough i probably wuld have got the venue pro if it has 16gb

It's AMOLED without "Super". AFAIK, only Samsung phones have S-AMOLED display.
The chassis only stated minimums... The OEMS aren't building more expensive devices because they don't have to. When the OS has picked up and is selling more, then you'll see the superphones (The first Android phone was not an Evo)

Sorry my mistake.[Fixed] I was just reading up on the difference and the super looks a fair bit better again.
is it worth it the upgrade? im just curious about the s4pro chipset.. but HTC should give 32gb model.. only 16gb atm.. and a larger battery though 2500mah to 3000mah for the 1080 screen..

No.
I would wait til the end of next year to adopt the 2nd version of DNA with 4.2 pre-loaded. WIN
Never HTC again, I'm sick of the way they keep releasing new model with too slow upgrade for existing one
I really don't understand all you people. You bought a phone which suited your needs when you bought it. HTC promised to bring updates to this model and they will. If you compare it to other manufacturers, HTC isn't doing that bad. When you want instant updates you should have bought a nexus phone. And on the issue of bringing out new models, yes they did it before so stop wining. When did you ever believe a company who wants to make a profit on their promises. If the phone or the company isn't to your liking, sell the phone and get another one and stop bothering everyone who is happy with their phone.

:good:
Personally I think the DNA is too big, there's no way it would fit in my jeans pocket (the One X only just fits). I can't fault the quality of the screen on the One X and a 1080p on a 4.7" display would just be a waste.
My last 3 Android phones have been HTC because I like Sense. If it wasn't for Sense and the camera, then I would tempted by the LG Nexus with it's immediate updates, but for me personally Sense is worth the wait.
Personally ,I will weigh my options very carefully before committing to any HTC phone there will be a lot of waiting from my side to see how any new HTC handset will do. than I will decide ,will it be DNA ,dlx, csi or ncis I will wait NO more getting any new technology when it's first out for me ,I've learned my lesson NO more tegra chip phone ever ,no more phone with no sd card slot and no more phone with no battery access

I will not be getting it until a better version is released I am looking to upgrade in Q2 2013. I like the DLX/DNA but I want 32/64gb, sd card and a bigger battery. I also want it to be water and dust resistant like the j butterfly. I also want the memory to be all one partition unlike the one x's memory with 2gb internal and a separate 32gb.

1. I told myself to never buy another device without removable battery again. I thought I could live with it, but after that 10am 40% incident, no.
2. Also, I would have gotten the One XL if that herp derp have more than 16GB.
Conclusion: No.
No: I wont be buying another HTC device again.
The DLX is not real so far
my bet HTC will not release it globally in its current forum
CPU specs will be boosted as well as the storage for the international

Hopefully with a micro sd slot! I am sure, with that feature added most users will be back to HTC from Samsung & iPhone.
My next phone wont have the edges of the screen protruding from the shell. Then it wont smash so easilly. Crazy design. Style over substance in afraid.

Good luck with the thermal throttling. Pretty sad when you have to put a device in the freezer to get the best performance out of it. I wouldn't even by an LG toaster.

"Faster and smoother" doesn't mean better. The GN had a dim display, crappy camera, and bad battery life. Did the fact that it was running stock Android make it a "better" device than either the SGS2 or SGS3? People who's entire world revolves around transitions and getting X.X.00002 the moment it's released should definitely buy Nexus devices. For people that use their devices to do something and want a device to help them be more productive Samsung and HTC devices with TW and Sense are better choices. And HTC does a better job with Sense than Samsung does with TW.
Here's a great example from the Note 10.1 forum. Here's list of what's on the Note 10.1 and missing from the N10. I'm sure we could make a similar list for the One X/One X+/DLX vs. the N4. As processors and GPUs have become more powerful than the OS and Apps that are running on them the need for "pure Google" is becoming less valuable other than for faster updates. And as Android's matured even the updates are becoming less meaningful. There's more to a device than just benchmarks, transitions, and updates and those other things are why I bought the One X in the first place and why I wouldn't hesitate to buy another HTC device.
