[Q] Do any US WP7 phones launching with 2 cameras? - Windows Phone 7 General

I know two camera options is not new in the UK, but I don't want to spend $400 on a phone that doesn't have what is standard on alot of devices now. Sorry thanks for the help.

at present no windows phones have a front facing camera. hopefully they will some time next year.

[Q] Front facing camera on WP7 handset?

Hi
It's just occurred to me that I haven't seen a front facing camera on any of the launch devices. That would rule out video calls unconditionally. Do any of the launch devices have a front facing camera?
Thanks
They will probably release them with front facing camera sometime next year.
The OS doesn't support it yet.

It doesn't support it yet? What does this OS support? Does it support anything? No full landscape mode, no adding custom ring tones by default, it just now is starting to support cut and paste, you have to connect it to a computer in order to sync Outlook. This is better than 6.5 how?

Nothing. A single Qualcomm SoC chipset that was 2-year old is the only supported hardware platform. So basically all WP7 phones are similar in hardware. Just different screens and cases.

You can't sync with Outlook. Period.
Anything is better than WM 6.xx
You mean to Sync Media. It doesn't sync outlook, and doesn't need to. Get the Outlook connector and stop crying about that.
But yea, it does feel very "Alpha" at teh moment.
I think you just have to deal with it or get something else. We got played, and the only thing you're going to get from most people here is how the UI looks good and it "does everything THEY need."
This time next year, WP7, with Mango update, will be at least feels like version 1.0 and mostly feature complete.
People, its a 4 months OS. If you can't deal with it get something else. I sold my iPhone 4 for wp7 and l have no regret, though I miss my Cambridge English dictionary .

Yes, it's a 5+ month old OS, but it's also 2011, not 2007... Standards have risen since then. Stop using the "5 months old" excuse. Windows Mobile had more functionality when it was released almost a decade ago. /shrugs/
I believe the Taylor had a front facing camera. Dont think it did anything though
Yes its a 4 month old OS but microsoft has been developing OS for phones and pc for over a decade now. so it amuses me not to see at least the basics of a smartphone on this os.
So stop with the "wp7 is too young to have this and that and we should just wait for another 5 years for that feature to be implemented" excuse cause its getting lame now.
I mean look at bada and web0S. When it was launched, almost all the basic features were present already. So the "4-5 month old excuse is not really a good excuse"
This Thread feels very...trollish.

For those who can't have a camera

I work at a place where camera phones are not allowed. Obviously this sucks as there are no decent non camera phones out there. Recently though they've allowed camera phones to be used as long as the camera is removed and the hole epoxied. So yeah, I've permanently altered my vibrant.
But the good news is that you can custom order a skin from phantomskins and ask them not to cut out the hole for the camera. Just thought this would be useful info for other people in my situation since you can at least remove the camera and make it look like it came that way from the factory.

alot of companies in tech and auto industry do it to prevent leaks of new and coming things
I know RIM sells some Blackberry models without the camera (Sprint and Verizon carry them if you look through their sites).
I work at a government installation. Yeah, blackberry has some phones but for what I want my phone to do they pretty much suck. I've had a blackberry 8820 which was "okay" but I want more than that out of my phone. And the whole changing out my simcard into another phone when I'm off work just doesn't happen because I'm lazy I guess lol. The crappy part is that I'm one of the few people that couldn't care less about a camera on my phone. Of all the camera phones I've had over the years I've probably taken a grand total of about a dozen pictures collectively with them. I just want a fast phone that can access the internet in a similar experience that I'd have on a computer. It would be great if manufacturers sold both camera and non camera versions of all their phones. Blackberry is really the only one that does it and they only do it on their lower end phones anyway.
A funny thing is that you still can add an FFC mod and have a camera while nobody gonna know about it

To my knowledge, the Droid pro will have/has a variant that does not have a camera.

End of a decade :|

Well the time has finally come and unfortunately for HTC they didn't have the hardware I wanted at the time. I now have a Nokia N8
It's hardware and build far outweighed the hassle of moving service providers.
We'll see what the world has to offer in 2 years from now.
I have no doubt HTC will catch up with what I'm looking for in a phone by then.
What does this have to do with wp7????
Ok and you are saing that this crappy nokia n8 is better than the new HTCs ? The only thing is 12mpx camera and NOTHING else... it has a ****ty 600-and-something processor with 256mb of RAM and it is LAGGING all the time and symbian is stil a dinosaur. Tell me what IS better ?
and btw... what the hell does this have in common with windows phone 7 ?...
I guess what he is saying is that the current batch of WP7 hardware wasnt good enough for him so he went for a Nokia N8. I had the same dilemma but I eventually decided to get a Samsung Focus, Symbian S60 Touch really has a long way to go before it can be considered usable. Now only if Nokia started releasing some Meego based devices.
GTFO of the WP7 forums and go whine about it somewhere else. Silly trolls.
No need to be so rude, but seriously an N8 is better than an HD7 or Mozart? Hardware-wise may be but the OS is so outdated, they could very well load WM6.5. Who buys phones just based on h/w these days now that they all got 1GHz+ processors and killer GPUs that make the UI feel like buttery smooth (at least for WP7 and iOS)? These things are as powerful as mainstream computers a decade ago.
Woahh there..
Hey hang on a moment. I don't just rush into a buy like this. I carefully research my hardware before I get it. I got the N8 because it will see me into the next few years. The Mozart was going to be the phone I was going to get but The price of the contract was way too much for the hardware. I was being penalized by an OS.
I'm explaining why I went to this phone.
If you can suggest a Windows 7 phone that was no bigger than an N8
(This was a big factor too)
12MP camera where the zoom doesn't compromise the quality of the picture
Provides 720P out via HDMI and records that quality too.
Allows hot swappable Sim and micro sd (32 gig) cards. (Come on.. how much 720p video are you going to get on 8gb on a mozart not as much as an N8 with 16 Gb on board with 32 GB expandability.)
Head phones are also better than a Mozart.
Sound quality is better than a Mozart. Dual microphones, Now this was an eye opener for me. The sound is much richer on the Nokia N8 video than on a Mozart.
Oh and an Amoled screen too.
Oh and I can plug a usb keyboard into the phone. So it does act like a mini PC when you hook it up to the TV. I've been looking for something like this in a phone for a long time.
In a drop test wher the phone was left on a car roof the N8 was the only survivor. I'll have it wrapped in a silicone case but It's nite to know that the build quality hasn't been compromised.
Oh and it wasn't an IPhone
All this for 20 a month with unlimited dataon a 2yr contract... I couldn't get that on a windows 7 mozart at the time.
I've been a member of this forum for a long time. I've helped out in developing Roms for my HTC phones. I'll still be around. Might still keep the old Diamond as it's been an absolute gem.

perhaps, but he done his research, and he got the phone right for him.
@OP: good on you for that. i've never been a big fan of nokia smart phones cause i found them a bit sluggish, but in the end, if it does the job for you, then good. i also am a bit of an audio/video person, but not enough to put any faith into a phone for producing what i want.
again, great to see that you got a device you feel is right for you. hopefully when your contract is up, the line of windows phones will then be capable of what you desire and you return .
I'm with you on this, I am staying away from the current batch of WP7, to see what hardware they will come out with next year.

New AT&T Mango lineups

Hi,
just came across this blog entry
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...amp-t-announces-new-windows-phone-lineup.aspx
Samsung Focus S (4.3" SAMOLED, 1.4GHz CPU, 4G, thin), Samsung Focus Flash (3.7", 1.4GHz CPU) are the never heard before phones there
The Focus S is probably the one Microsoft showed at the Worldwide Partner conference: http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/microsoft-unveils-new-windows-phone-7-handsets-from-samsung-ace/
If it's Worlwide and has a 32GB option it will most likely be my next phone.
I think you're right Peew971.
I want to see it in action asap.
My next phone is going to be between the Focus S, iPhone 5 and Nokia WP7 device.
Too bad AT&T has such a low data limit for their smartphone plans, otherwise I'd think about that Focus S. Super AMOLED+ and the screen isn't unnecessarily large, with a 32 GB option.
Does it have a LED notification light like the HD7. If not, then nevermind.
I Just waiting for samsung 4.3 screen is perfect
What about T-Mobile? Kudos to AT&T but their plans are a rip off.

They definitely are which is why I'm glad that my company has been paying my bill for the last few years.
What I want to hear from ATT is if they will be supporting Visual Voicemail for the Mango devices.
A 4.3" screen would be great. I have found myself wishing that my Focus's screen were a little bigger. I just wish HTC had better screens and specs. I have heard they are much easier to play with compared to Samsung. Either way, I love my Focus and the only thing that would be better than a Focus S is a Nokia phone.

I think this is a question that many of us are asking. I would assume(hope) that most carriers will jump on allowing this feature along with others. I mean it can make them money right?
However I still think that windows phone is not taken seriously enough so its possible they may lack care/effort.
My Samsung Focus is a very good phone. I would have liked my next phone to have a physical keyboard though ie. HTC 7 Pro style. The LG Quantum's keyboard was too stiff for me. Judging from the all the press releases so far, it looks like physical keyboards are going away. I guess everybody has to look like an iPhone or something. I'm going to hold out a little while longer, but I will upgrade to the Focus S if I have too. Mainly for the HSPA+ speeds, providing the tethering hack is still available.
HTC Titan, Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash confirmed for ATR Q4 release

Very exciting, the original Focus/Omnia 7 was a fantastic device. Very interested to see how this device lives up.

Your advice please regarding purchase

I am considering buying the Lumia 900 and moving from android. I have owned windows phones before so have an idea about the os however this more specifically towards the 900 as a phone. I have seen many mixed reports on here. My questions are...
Is it worth getting over the 800 and why
I know it has a few software bugs but so does my gs3 but should this be a deal breaker?
I gather this phone won't get wp8 but is this a big issue again.. Is it really worth waiting for?
I plan to use my phone for music and also the camera... Can anyone comment on the quality of either.
How is the phone to hold in the hand.. Does it sit comfortably or feel like it may slip out.
My previous windows phone was a HTC radar which I really liked however I would like to think things have moved on a bit since then and hence why I am. Looking at the Lumia.
Thanks for your help.

It's very tempting to purchase one now, but I highly recommend waiting, especially if you purchase a phone under a contract 2-year no-upgrade plan.
I'm buying the phone outright as I find the size of my gs3 to big for everyday use.. Contract issues are not a consideration.
Just interested in opinions /views on the phone.

Hi
I had an SGS2 and the SGS3 did not really appeal to me , So got the Lumia 900 ( I have also had an HTC HD7 windows phone) and was really blown away..
Nokia does the best WP7 phones compared to Samsung or HTC, simply because of the Nokia Apps that are available for the phone and also because nokia is porting most of its symbian apps to wp7.
Things you want miss if coming from android like me..
1) Free turn by turn navigation ( nokia does it for free, HTC charges)
2) Camera is ok although you might have to tweak the settings a bit to squeeze the best out of it ( Nokia is doing another 'camera extras' app to enhance the camera functionality)
3) The CLear Black Amoled display is really good ( like SGS3) even in directs sunlight
4) Battery life as good as the SGS2 ( atleast for me)
5) Most apps are available or you can always pin mobile version of sites to the screen.
6) DLNA will be available via its 'Nokia Play' app next month july.
Downside
1) Its a big phone so if you don't like big phones you might have to pass this
2) No upgrade to WP8 software, only the 'START SCREEN' upto version 7.8
3) Not as many apps as android, but they are coming steadily.
Just a few I can think of....
Let me know if you need to know anything else
Considering the news released today that you won't be upgraded.... F**K Microsoft OS phones, this one in particular. Wait till apollo if you want to not be another beta tester.
Agreed with above poster. With Microsoft's announcement yesterday about no upgrade path to Windows 8 for Lumia 900 and other Windows phones.
It's best to either wait for Windows 8 phones or buy a used phone.
First I would try picking one up in a store to see how it feels in your hand. Having said that when I did that it felt bigger than I was used to and thought it may end up being too big, but now I have one it feels fine.
It's worth getting one over the 800 for two reasons:
1. Much bigger battery which you can make last well into three days on one charge - I even had 100 hours out of one charge when I was hardly using it for a few days.
2. Bigger and better display. The display is the best on any smartphone according to several reviews, and personally I find it easy to read outdoors in sunlight which was a real bugbear on my previous phone. I've also found it easier to use as a satnav with the larger size.
I've found the camera to be better than my previous HTC phone, haven't tried indoor or closeup shots yet though. The main thing I like is that call quality is good, it doesn't drop calls or distort them.
It does have some teething troubles - mine has turned itself off a couple of times, which could get annoying if it keeps happening, and also the battery sometimes starts draining faster for no apparent reason, which is cured by switching it off and on.
As for WP8, in my view it depends on whether you're buying it to use it now or buying it for what you think it ought to be able to do in six months time. I think that WP7 owners will only really be missing out on the better Skype integration that WP8 will bring, most of the rest of WP8's new features seem to require new hardware that the 900 doesn't have anyway. Reading other comments you'd think the phone was going to stop working the day WP8 comes out.
