This Can't in any way be used to gain permanant root

I was the guinea pig .

We should attempt something similar to root the device (unless I read it wrong and now I sound like a noob)

Go for it! Tell us how it turns out.

I wonder if we can use the Desire Z rom?

This in no way will help to perma root. It will alow you to downgrade if htc ads more security or fix an exploit in the future.

Saids data is to large when I try to load a signed Desire Z img.

This is so any exploits found with the older radio or ROM, can be used. So the OTA is "safe" essentially.

Need a bigger SPL file? Does this even have an SPL?

Thank you very much for this. Now I can finally have wifi calling without worrying about screwing my chances for perm root! Cheers!

Hmmm, most likely we could since the process would stay the same. From what I've been reading, and listening, the misc partition has to be read/writable. Which means this will still work.

Indeed, if this could be used to flash an early test build that didn't have the copy-protection, you'd be off to the races...

Yea that was my idea but the 1.12 isnt sign/ made with test keys. So thats a no go but at lest with this we can always revert to stock

[Q]Downgrade HBOOT 1.01 to 0.80

I have noticed that is possible to be done for HTC Desire to downgrade HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80 without any problems. Did anyone tried to downgrade HBOOT of Buzz ? In theory is it possible ? Thanks!
Desire != Wildfire
Anybody tried this methode ? does it work ?
I have done some search and I have found out it MIGHT be possible to do it. I got the recovery files in place extracted the rom from a RUU. Now I need some HexEdit search. Seems like the misc partition on Wildfire (were the current version is stored) is not in the same place as the one on Desire. So definitely
Wildfire != Desire
If i manage to find the right combination I will try to brick my phone latter on
good luck i hope it works downgrading not bricking
Just send your phones to me and i will S-Off them with my XTC clip ;-)
It is now possible, to downgrade a wildfire with android 2.2.1 and HBOOT 1.01...?

Downgrading worked for some time now, but, it only downgrades Android 2.2.1 to 2.1. The HBOOT remains intact. So, to answer your query, no, there is no downgrading method yet.
You can get S-OFF on the updated HBOOT though.
if i understand this right,
so i can downgrade to android 2.1 to flash 2.3 later?
sry my english is not really good and i think i understand that false

No. Because 2.3 is only available as a Custom ROM so far. And, to flash Custom ROM's you need to be rooted, which you cant do even if you downgrade to 2.1 because, as I said, the HBOOT cannot be downgraded.
Hope it is clear now.
yes now its clear

Yes it is through a specific hardware device called the XTC Clip. You will have to buy one yourself or find someone who has one and is willing to S-OFF your Wildfire for you. Just a search around here should reveal the specifics. Not very sure on that.
This XTC Clip, what specifically does it do? Couldn't someone who has one work out exactly what is does and then put it online? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

haha, I knew that! I wondered what it actually did... Like change a system file or do something to the SD card which allowed the phone to have an S-OFF Hboot installed.
I own a HTC Desire Z, and I have downgraded my software including Hboot using this method .
I have tried the same thing on my girlfriend wildfire and I managed to obtain temporary root, but when I tried to change "misc_version" to 1.24.405.1 I got this error:
Code:
# /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.24.405.1
--set_version set. VERSION will be changed to: 1.24.405.1
Patching and backing up partition 17...
Error opening input file.
I know that this files are specific for Desire Z, psneuter worked only after I have downloaded from somewhere else (I don't remember where), but maybe someone will manage to edit "misc_version" and make it work on wildfire, then it will be possible to downgrade everything including H-boot.
the partition table is different on each model. that's one of the reasons why it won't work..

I think the only thing we need is to edit the misc_version and make it work on wildfire, I don't know if this is a hard or easy thing to do, but after that nothing will stop us from downgrading H-boot and gain root access once again
I posted all the steps I did here, but nobody listens to me

Did you follow the OP step-by-step? Did it look for the file? when you renamed it did you just removed the text prior to PG32IMG.zip or did you rename it completely and possibly name it PG32IMG.zip.zip?
Are you S-off or unlocked with HTC Dev?
The more information you can give, the easier it will be to help since we aren't sitting there to see everything.

Yakju 4.3 OTA link

My wife's phone got the OTA update. It already downloaded so I just had the file name, showing it is in cache:

Have you problem with the new SuperSU?
I have read this: "Be careful with that version of SuperSU. It is not yet stable (on the N4 at least). There is an issue where for some reason (and we haven't figured it out yet), you lose root, and the daemonsu process starts eating up ~70%+ of your CPU time. Battery dies pretty quick. "

you need to install again TWRP or CWM and restore the backup made with the same recovery.
but remember that the RECOVERY wont restore your BOOTLOADER and others partitions

[5.1.1][ROM][TW][OE6] Blck/TW

Please make sure you have a recent back up of your phone. Also doubly make sure to backup your /efs folder and your /dev/block/platform/15570000.ufs/by-name/RADIO device. There is a risk of permanently bricking your device if the radio upgrade fails. Remember this is all at your own risk. I promise no function or fitness of use. This will probably cause your phone to blow up and start a thermonuclear war and trip your Knox counter

Since its such a precious folder I would do this
tar cf /data/local/tmp/efs.tar /efs/*
dd if=/dev/block/platform/15570000.ufs/by-name/EFS of=/data/local/tmp/efs.img
then adb pull those files to your computer and put them in a safe place
After reading the stuff in red.....I'm certain I will not flash this....Lol

What changes, if any, have been made to the original dump that @Sunderwear provided? I assume you replaced the app_process files, but any other changes?
I want to flash this but shi* I'm scared to brick it lol

I did that a bit differently. Supersu made backups of the original files. I just restored those. No other changes other then making a user friendly zip

Looking at the package, it only replaces your System partition, your Kernel, and your Radio.
An Odin-to-Stock would theoretically revert any damage this could do.

+1 I just wanted people to aware of the potential risk. Everything went fine for me but I don't want to give people a false sense of security.

Understood, flashing Radios is srs bsns.
In other news, the updater-binary isn't working for me. ... Using TWRP.
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/blck_tw_511_samsung_oe6.zip'

Are you using the twrp posted in the op? Are you doing sideload or straight from the device (fwiw I only tested sideload) gimme a second and I'll add a md5sum
EDIT: MD5 (blck_tw_511_samsung_oe6.zip) = 6a96ab53a25ff76fb263a06a7efa256f
EDIT2: Just downloaded from mega and the file matches the original's md5
I say the first bricked phone will happen within 2 hours..
Folks, if you dont REALLY know what you are doing, please reconsider flashing this. And, if you dont know what ADB is, or what sideloading means, do NOT flash this...
And, mega thanks to the OP for putting this out there for the early adopters! :good::good:
No root for this yet correct ?

bug fixes like ADB over custom recovery and other things. Highly recommended to use this one

Can you expand a bit on what this exactly means- the two lines of script you posted here- are those the ADB pull lines we would use?
Just want to be completely clear on what we have to do to backup before we flash this ROM. Step by Step would be great.
Thanks again for all your work on this!
Working so far...
