Hi there,
I'm planning on getting a WP7 device when they become available in Canada.
I thought it would be great to hear from people on their initial setup experiences, in terms of things they did to get the phone how they liked it, whether its contacts, photos, music, etc and hear if they would do anything different again, or would recommend as a 'must-do' to others.
cheers!

long time android user, just switched to a focus s on wednesday.
so far, i have been really liking the wp experience. here's a few issues i have had so far though.
when playing audio through headphone (to my car stereo), there are clicks in the audio between songs. as if it's changing audio device back and forth.
no start page in IE? whenever i open it, it just starts from the last page i was at. don't really like that since if my kids pick it up and go to IE, i could have been viewing something they should have been (lol no goat porn)
contacts can only have 2 emails? i personally have 5 different email accounts for different side businesses that i have. i set up myself as a contact so i can easily send it to others as a business card and it would have all of my contact info on it. i'm really limited with only being able to have 2 emails. i can add them all to my profile on live.com, but, i can't add my addresses there. am i missing something here?
other than these, the change over has been a great experience. the google sync and smart merging easily pulled all my contacts and organized them. the stability has been great as well and i keep telling myself to stop looking at battery percentage every hour (lol bad habits die hard).
the focus s is the most beautiful piece of hardware i have ever owned as well. and really compliments wp7. i'm really looking forward to more wp updates as the os grows out of infancy. can't wait to see what this will be like once it's fully polished.
oh and another i miss... xbmc remote. i have tried a few from the market place. 1 doesn't work at all. and the ones that work, have a horrible interface. the ones that look good, don't work right.
i wish the remotes on the ones that worked, looked more like the regular xbmc app, rather than trying to match metro with making buttons look like text in square boxes.
Not sure what you mean about the two email thing I have some contacts with 3

yeah, 3... lol, i need more than 3. you get personal, work and other.
The sound issue when using the headphone jack applies to any powered speakers. In other words, car audio connections, desktop speaker connections, etc. This issue forced me to return the Focus S and replace it with the HTC Titan. I couldn't be more happy and the Titan does not exhibit this sound issue.
Battery life is awesome
the focus s is a beautiful phone..
I can't wait until TELUS finally gets some new wp7 phones.
Hopefully before my upgrade so i don't have to go back to android

You could pin 'google.com' to your start screen and unpin IE. That way, your kids will see google.com
(IE would still be accessible in the full list of programs. However, it's easy to click the tile so your kids would probably just do that. Also, possible they could see previously open tabs using the tabs menu).
Hi if you wish to share your contact info with others download this app "my contact tile: and set it up. You'll get a live tile with QR code that someone else can scan then they will be able to add you to their contact list easily.

im not sure if you can add multiple emails though but give it a try
Hi
I've been using Android for a few years. Started with Galaxy note 2 and now have LG G3. I love Android (when it works) and I love Google.
Am also Windows user but lets not go there!
I am seriously considering moving to Apple because of ongoing buggy/performance issues, previously on note 2 and now on very new G3. I just want things to work. I do not have the time to spend hours debugging/researching unfortunately.
I use the following apps frequently
Pocket
Good
Tweetcaster
Linkedin
Email
Whatapp
Facebook
Uber
Google Keep
Medium
RSA VPN
Google MAps
Amazon
Sound profile with key
Youtube
Calender
Camera
BBC
IMDB
Indeed Job search
Ebay
Avira
Issues I have experienced recently:
- slow performance, for example trying to get Uber to work in the rain in london, and I was ready to launch it in the Thames as it just wouldn't seem to load.
- calls coming in but the GUI not showing anything to take the call with.
- Slow moving between apps, responding to home/switch app button (previously having to delete all my call logs and slim down my 1500 contacts, and delete all my texts to improve performance, on my Note 2).
I realise you are all developers and probably love Android, but for a father of young children who works long hours and has -zero time, what can I do to prevent me being impacted by these issues? All suggestions welcome (Apple have enough money).
Thanks in advance for your time/suggestions.
Cheers
I also have new LG G3 (3GB version, nothing touched, factory defaults) and don't have neither of problems you have - maybe it is faulty unit
Also, I see you have Avira installed -, I don't use antivirus on Android so I don't know, but maybe it makes performance problems...
First off not sure if this is posted in correct section, mods please feel free to move if not. More of a general Android/8.0 question.
Overall I'm not a huge fan of how the Google launcher has evolved. Some of the most useful features in the past for me have been the way Google Launcher almost sources of travel assistant. If a Flight confirmation was in my email, on my desktop it would show flight arrival times Etc. Similarly it would do the same for hotel reservations and even my travel companions plans. However, I haven't seen my new pixel 2 phone do this.
And yes, im sure I have checked all the right buttons in the play launcher, have given it access to Gmail, etc. Have told it I want it to display these things ( ideally on my desktop! With the Google now widget), although it just hasn't been doing so.
Again, I'm sure this is more of a software issue than hardware, although was wondering if anyone else has been having similar frustrations, or has any solutions

Same thing is happening to me. Nothing is showing up.
Google Now is slowly getting ruined. Only think that ever show now for me is packages, calendar, events, recipes, and time to work/home. They might as well deprecate it at this point and shut down the Newstand app as that's basically what Google Now is....now. Almost every story in Google now is the same thing in my Newstand.

It used to be fantastic. I travel a ton and it would always keep track of all my flights or they were on time delays etcetera. Almost like a built-in travel assistant. All I needed was the flight information in my email that was sent to me at the time I book the flight. But for some reason I'm having trouble getting that.
The only work around I found so far is to click on the envelope looking icon at the top that shows upcoming events. This has given me better luck at showing the great stuff I used to see.
Same boat. It used to track my packages (through gmail).
It hasn't done that in a while though.
Yeah, same as above. I'm slowly moving things over to Outlook.
Might need to go with Google Trips to reliably get automatic importing of flight info from Gmail. I dislike how after opening up the Feed by swiping to left from home screen, I now have to click on that stupid icon on the upper right AND click it again on the bottom to get my personal info. Way too many clicks
Hello everyone,
I'm used to the LineageOS on my previous phone and now I've upgraded recently to this phone but I feel my personal info too much available to Google and MI system apps and I don't want that, thats why I went to LineageOS on my previous phone but, like others custom firmwares, it have several bugs which limits the potential of the phone.
Even not using an google account I can feel my life is being spied because a few things happen:
- if someone calls me, a friend or whatever, and its not in my contacts list it asks me if its spam. For what? To send the info somewhere using the internet connection and warns others if its spam? If it reads my contacts for this it can read those for anything, like copy my whole contacts list which I'm not comfortable with and I'm not able to control. I'm afraid that later if i use the regular browser to access Gmail for instance, I'm afraid the OS is prepared to warn google that all the info that' I've shared so far belongs to that particular Google account and that phone IMEI is also used but that account. I'm crazy? Maybe, but all this is possible and I want to make it impossible.
- If i do not allow Google services from accessing my text messages APP (built-in app) i keep getting a warning from the system that something it will not go OK if I do not turn on that access from Google services. Why the hell should google services needs to access my texts? My first phone, 20 years ago, could send SMS without google, why the hell google needs to see my texts now?
The list continues but I'm not willing to loose the nice things this OS have too, but for me personal info is too valuable and I dont want to give away any information from my contacts list, SMS texts, the places I visit, my tastes and so on, all this is my personal life and no one needs to know about it, not even just for statistics. Some people on my contacts list doesn't use Android and dont want the personal phone number stored somewhere and connected to me somehow, not that Im a criminal or something like but all this combined together its like a personal "Facebook" for Google and MI to use, they know who are the persons who I connect with, who are near me at a certain period of the day, where I usually do shopping, well, all my life is being stored somewhere, and I want to end this.
Is there a way to keep the current OS and block every outgoing info coming from the phone? I've made some research and i come to this so far
- AFwall can be a solution, but how good it is?
- Removing google services is not an option using ADB, the OS will not work
- Disable google services is not working. The system keeps turning it on automatically
Please give me your feedbacks with your experiences about this security issue, I think several people feels the same way, and how did you managed a work around to this keeping the original OS.
PS: For now I didnt unlock the bootloader, but I will if the solution goes that way.
Thank you everyone

Living in the age of Google, one cannot use phone & Internet without your info being collected for ad purposes or whatsoever.
Ad purposes i can live with that,. what I cant live with is my personal data being stored by a 3rd party company besides my cell operator
Ive been watching the Anti-Gapps group but it seems discontinued i guess, i think this is a task fitted for them
I've got two kids, ages 6 and 8, and we keep their screen time limited, but they love audiobooks and for the past few years we have bought them cheap mp3 players and loaded audiobooks on them from the library using the Overdrive app on a pc which then syncs the mp3s to the mp3 player. However, Overdrive has been discontinued and is likely to be fully killed off sometime in 2023 (no doubt thanks to pressure from the publishing industry) whereupon the only way to get audiobooks from the library will be through the Libby app, but this of course requires an internet connected device. For obvious reasons I don't want to just give my kids an Android phone with access to Youtube, social media, etc. I have played around with LineageOS to breath fresh life into an old Kindle tablet and various older phones, so I'm thinking perhaps picking up some cheap old Moto phones and loading them up with LineageOS would be an option, but I'd want to strip out some of the functionality and remove the web browser, phone and sms, and basically just have a camera, Libby app, k9 email client, and if possible voice recognition. presumably Libby and k9 mail could be sideloaded. Not sure about voice recognition, but it seems like maybe Gapps pico or microG might offer a way to implement google voice recognition? But is it possible to have voice recognition without having the play store? As far as removing the browser, it appears that LOSdiet should work for that purpose.

Why can't you use a guest account?
While I suppose using the Guest feature on a stock Android device might be an option, I'd prefer not to go down that route for a few reasons. First, it seems like it's mostly designed as a temporary option for loaning a phone to a friend, not as a permanent function, and I am afraid it would be easy to accidentally delete all the contents of the guest account which would result in a very unhappy kid. Second, if they know it can do all the things a "real" phone can do and they're just locked out of doing them, that will make them much more prone to nagging us to install random junky games and apps and fiddling around trying to access the main account. I'd prefer if it just wasn't an option at all.
Maybe try it out before you reject it.
Google Family Link
Yes, I have also the combination of google family link and LOS and IF it is working, it is working really great!
On some systems, you need to have two user profiles on the device, as the children account alone would lead to an FRP lock , at least on S4 and S5 neo.
I got it one time working by adding first the parents account and then afterwards adding the children account. In Settings, enable multi user and then add a PIN (or whatever) to prevent access to your account from the one your child is using.
