I am new to flashing new ROM, but my phone is not. I have a friend who has flashed the ROM a few times on my phone. The phone operates but there is functionality that I would like to see that maybe a new ROM would be better for me. Right now I don't know that I could tell you what ROM I have. I would also like to know if my phone has HardSPL. I guess to start, I would like to know how to figure out what ROM I have so that I can ask more questions and get some better help.
Take off the battery cover. Holding the volume-down button, use the stylus to push (the release) the soft reset button. Keep holding the volume down until the 3-color screen shows up. This is called the bootloader. If your phone is already HardSPL'ed, the second line of text on the 3-color screen should have the word "Olinex" at the end of it.
If your phone has had custom ROMs flashed before, it will still be HardSPL'ed, unless your friend purposely re-locked the SPL. In other words, the SPL remains unlocked unless you specifically lock it again.
To get out of the bootloader, just hit the soft reset button again.
Ok, so it does have HardSPL. Where do I find what ROM I am running. The rest of the lines read:
RHOD300 32M SS-BC
SPL-0.85.OliNex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A
MicroP(KEY) 0x04
TURBO HW/Turbo SW
TP MFG DATA
509,521 796,836
803,215 210,213
215,840 Calibrated

When you actually powerup the phone, there should be 4 rows of red letters/number at the bottom left corner of the screen. Sometimes, the chef will put the name (or part of the name) of the ROM in the last row, but not always.
Also, you can look at the ROM version under Start>Settings>System>Device Information>Software Information. Again, I'm not sure if the name of custom ROMs is always displayed here.
What kind of functions are you looking for in a ROM?
ROM version - WWE 28.Aug.2010
Basically this ROM is what I am looking for but there are too many issues with it. I use my phone primarily for business so I usually do not need a lot of the frill features. I want to be able to have full functionality of the following items (no glitches): email, text messaging, call recording, contacts, internet sharing, and wifi router (for tethering to my laptop).
Right now I have the following issues: I will send a text, but the recipients do not get it (it is not the carrier). This does not happen all the time. sometimes my phone tells me that the message did not send, and I can try again. Sometimes it just never gets sent. When I get off a phone call there is a screen that pops up that says would you like to save this contact. when I click either "create new contact" or "add to existing", nothings happens. There are times also that the phone is just very slow...usually doing something simple like trying to open a browser page or text message. I usually have to reboot my phone every other day to fix this. When this is happening there is no programs running in my task manager. My final complaint is that the internet browser is VERY slow. My girlfriend has an iphone 3G with the same service that I have sitting right next to me and her internet is easily 5x faster than mine. Mine is almost unbearable.
I do not think I have any issues with email. My phone recorder works just fine.
What country, carrier?
I've never had that issue adding a caller as a contact, so I'm not familiar with that. And the only time I've had a problem with a text going through is when the reception is poor.
A custom ROM can possibly get you much better speed and stability over the stock ROM. But its not clear to me whether you are on stock or a custom ROM.
What browser are you using?
USA, ATT
I am running some version of energy rom, not stock. I just do not know which version.
I use opera browser.
Is there a splash screen that says Energy when you power up the phone? Every recent Energy ROM has had this (for as long as I've been using them, since May 2010).
Also, for Energy ROM, it usually says Energy in the bottom line of red letter/numbers in the lower left corner of the screen when you startup the phone.
It does, but it goes pretty quickly it is hard to get all the numbers. Energy is on that splash screen.
Windows Mobile is laggy by nature; and there is also a known, frequent memory leak problem with WM which slows down the phone until you power off/on the phone. WM is an old platform, and its no wonder that Microsoft is completely re-vamping the OS from the ground up, for Windows Phone 7. Periodically restarting the phone, or using CleanRAM (just use the XDA search function to find it) can help alleviate the memory leak issue somewhat. Its tough to say from your description whether the lag you are experiencing is typical WM behavior, or something else is going on.
I use Opera 9.7 as well for my browser. The actual download speed seems comparable to my wife's iPhone 3GS in unscientific testing. But the rendering speed when you scroll or zoom is much worse in Opera than on the iPhone. If that is what you are experiencing, there is not much that can be done. You can try Opera 10, which some people like better than 9.7. But it doesn't have a scalable zoom (only 2 zoom levels).
I used various builds of Energy for a long time, but I never had the issue with the caller contact, or texts. Overall, many users been pleased with the speed/stability of the Energy ROM. NRG does a good job on his ROMs, considering its Windows Mobile. You can try to flash other ROMs, which are a little more "lightweight" or better at managing the memory. But the improvements might not be quite what you are looking for. Its possible you have a bad flash, and re-flashing may fix your bugs. But I don't think you are going to see a huge improvement otherwise.
On the other hand, you have little to lose in flashing a new ROM (and it actually pretty fun, once you learn the basic steps). NRG is constantly tweaking his ROMs to squeeze a little more performance out of WM. Or you can try other more lightweight ROMs. People seem to like Jacko's and Valkyrie for cleaner ROMs. I'm trying out Simplicity right now, myself.
Overclocking the phone's CPU is another option for squeezing a bit more performance out of it. Look on the Themes and Apps subforum for the overclocking tools.
I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess that the last time you flashed the ROM was around the end of August or beginning of September, right? More than likely, you're using an August 28th version of the Energy ROM. Don't worry, I'm not psychic. There was a bug in that version only that prevented saving to contacts after a call. It has never surfaced again since then.
You could simply flash a newer version of the ROM from the thread or try a different ROM altogether as redpoint suggests. Head over to the Energy ROM thread and pick a new one. Since you've already got the Hard SPL done, grab the task29 tool and stock ROM, and you're in business.
Install the stock ROM, then run task29, then flash the new ROM. All done. Make sure to back up your files before doing anything as this will erase all of your data.
How do I re-flash or install a new ROM, now knowing what you know about my phone? I am a noob, if you did not know that already!

Look one post up. I just told you. You need to first install the stock ROM. It's a simple exe file that runs from your PC.
After that, run the task29 program. It's two files. Leave the .nbh file alone. All you have to do is run the CustomRUU.exe file and follow the prompts. This will erase every bit of data on the device. When the progress bar gets to 100%, hold the volume down button to return to the bootloader screen.
You then need to run the Rhodium_SoftwareUpgrade.exe that is included with the ROM you want to flash. The download is normally two files just like the task29. Leave the .nbh file alone again.
If you have any questions about these programs direct them to the appropriate thread for that topic. It's time to jump in. You have a lot of reading to do. No more holding your hand here, so to speak.

You know more than I, so I differ to you, of course.
But care to elaborate? My understanding is that WM has a big memory leak issue out of the box. I know its something you've addressed on your ROMs. But the issue is there to start.

Looks like you don't know me at all. I recommend simplicity (used to recommend LBFAR too, but it's discontinued).
Yeah, you understand that WM has a memory leakage out of the box. That's what the famous chef said. Nothing more wrong then that. Did you ever tried a clean WM rom? Without any additional soft by other developers. It doesn't leak memory at all! I used to work on my old ASUS A639 for weeks without softreset.
The problem is that a lot of "skilled" chefs have no idea how to care about memory leaks and they claim it to be a issue they cannot fix. Bull****. I'll never agree with this.
A issue that I addressed in my roms? Nope, it's something I'm preventing from happening.

I have to agree with Jackos here. I've been playing with my own personal ROM for months now and I've never ever had memory leak issues. It's related to some of the "tweaks" that other chef put into their ROMs. Jackos ROM, in my opinion, is one of a few that don't "leak" memory all over the place. I normally use Energy ROM because it is flashy, however it does use more memory than any other one right out of the box.
Memory leaks are a product of the chef, not the build.

Hi all

EDIT: 2/11/2007
I appear to have found a solution to the 'long time to come back out of standby' issue:
i had a bit of a brianwave when I was learning about pagepools and decided to investigate WHY it was only Schaps' rom that took such a noticeable time to come out of standby whereas other roms such as VP3G's and shamanix's were pretty quick.
Initially i put it down to rubbish handset.lol. but then decided no. that isnt the xda way!
so, i downloaded 4 different ROMs, VP3G's, Shamanix, AustinSync and of course Schaps'. I was determined to get Schaps' working as his rom is most suited to my needs!
so, upon opening each of the roms using the pagepool change tool, i realised Schap's had a 4mb PP whereas others had 6mb
so, i thought, lets see what happens if we change the pagepool, so i did. and it seems to have worked. it still takes a short time to come out (i mean not instantaneous like on the wizard) but a LOT less than the Schaps with 4mb PP.
so, i ask ye fellow users to try changing the pagepool.
the tool i found was on these very forums at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269&highlight=pagepool+change
and there it is!
so please, try it!
-----------------
I've been trying out schaps' various roms and i've realised it seems to take a while for the handset to come out of standby (i use the standby function a LOT) and sometimes you even have to press the power button twice!
is it just me that is experiencing this?
please dont get me wrong, ALL of schaps' roms that i have tried have been near enough perfect asides from this single issue. all the other roms i have tried despite coming out of standy instantaneously, they have other issues. issues which schaps dont have!
i just hope we can solve this slight issue!
w/thanks
duke.
Same here
I have ROM 3.54c from Schaps and I have the same problem... I find it VERY frustrating!!!
I was hoping that this would be fixed in version 4...
Good thread Duke_stix, I hope someone out there has the answer to our problem!
----------
HERMES 100
3.54c from Schaps
I haven't really noticed it yet really but its something that I have experienced on all the roms I try on occasion.
i use 3.60a
and it has a 1second lag before it comes out of standby. havent tried any other rom
Try VP3G's latest.... you would not be disappointed...Schap codes great ROMs, however when they are done and out of bugs.. but till then if you use your phone daily like most people do, then testing is not for you.
im not testing!
if you read my first post, i LOVE schaps' roms! the ONLY issue that i have found is the 'wakeup' bug, otherwise more or less perfect. with other roms, including VP3G's there are other slight problems like some today plugins missing, namely the wireless one, which i know there are alternatives and it can be downloaded and installed but id prefer it in rom from beginning!
there has GOT to be a way to fix this! perhaps a registry setting
schaps, if your reading this, please help!
U may have better luck posting this on the original schaps v4.0 thread!
Not a rom specific thing...
It's a Hermes specific thing.
The Hermes has always had problems coming out of stand by. Every rom I've used has had these lags. And yeah, some times I have to press the power button twice as well.

i would and i have but in the last few hours ive had more responses concerning this issue than i have since posting in that thread a day or two ago!
Help wanted
This is a very important topic...
Because of this issue, my 8525 seems slower than the old 8125... Kind of annoying for a processor twice as fast...
Please... Anyone... Any clue????
This lag varies depending on what you have installed and whats running. When i boot my device in safe mode using spb pocket + the lag is basicly gone. So just free up some ram and put only the apps that need to be on device memory on the device memory, other non crucial apps should be put on starage device.
Not a memory issue

I highly doubt that it is a memory issue since this happens on cold boots as well.
Moreover my Hermes currently has 22.8Mb free for storage and 19.7Mb for Program... Isn't this plenty?
ATI ImageON
Actually, isn't it what the ATI ImageON driver is supposed to fix?
Relating to all of this,, I wonder if the new Tytn 11 (Kaiser)with all its memory , experiences that same power/standby problem ? If the answer is yes, then either the problem (whatever it was) was solved, and we must learn what they have done differently in hardware or system. If they haven't fixed or improved immensely in the Kaiser, then someone out there (HTC) never have seen it as a major problem.. I personally have almost always had a lag, either on cooked or official.
on Hermes but not on Wizard
Actually, this problem is inherent to the Hermes - The wizard (slower processor and older model) is much faster to come out of stand-by. Someone at HTC must have messed up pretty bad - or ATI bribbed them nicely.
Hi,
I'm using the 3.60 full at the moment and didn't experience that, even I do use that version for a week and never recall have that issue as well, may be is physical unit related since some of you also discover the same symptoms.
Just sharing hope you don't mine.

Yes thats is true its not a rom specific thing. I use the dopod original rom and still it takes that long and some times i do need to press it twice before getting it awake...
Minimo guilty?
I tried the 6Mb pagepool trick on Schap's 4 ROM and the delay seemed to have shortened. However, after installing and uninstalling Minimo, I noticed a significant slow down of mt TyTn... It seems that the delay is back...
Am I the only one in this case?
the problem I have is anytime I open anything theres a lag of 1 to 3 seconds at times. when I type it takes 1-2 seconds for it to catch up with what I had typed. its getting real annoying and don't have much programs open, is there some kind of tweak that can fix this. it would really turn my productivity up ten folds... thanks

yea dude, flash a new rom, what happened is your windows directory got loaded and is slowing down the preformance on your entire ppc.. some of the newer roms have fixed this.
but se I had recently flashed over to crc's 14.1.

CRC is usually fully loaded, hence it will be slow. Try a lite ROM and see if you have any performance difference.

Agreed, performance goes down once you start installing many applications or quit flashing for a few days
Wasn't it with CRC's roms that Odd numbered roms were the stable roms and even numbered roms were in developement?
Could be using a developement rom that has a few bugs to be worked out....

im currently running now 13.0 stable but still the same, is there something within the registry i can do or something or could it be the auto word completion thing?
i do have quite some software on my phone but majority of them are utility programs that help me clean and or tweak my settings.
i dont wanna crank up my core speed as that will already kill the juice of my battery of what little i do get out of the day,
Use advanced config to make sure you are running with .net framework 3.5... I found a few of the newer roms have it listed as "disabled"...
I can confirm this slowdown. I tried different roms with and w/o manilla 2d interface. Recently, there has been a weird change in the codebase that causes an extreme slowdown in some applications. For example, I am a regular POWDER player, which is an awesome roguelike game. a month or two ago, I had no problems playing POWDER. But the last few roms gave me great trouble. Now the game freezes every 5-10 seconds for a few seconds. I know there is something wrong with the roms because the game is the same game I played 2 months ago. And I don't install many applications to use /windows directory. actually, I install almost nothing and this slow down hits even without installing any applications.
I always use naked roms, but recently there has been a serious lack of them. The reason "may" be the sort of bloated roms. I just hope that somebody comes with a truly naked (.net only) rom so that we can test this hypothesis.
I guess I found the source of the problem. fonts. extra fonts.
One of the programs I install by default after every flash puts three different fonts into the \windows folder. I renamed these fonts and restarted the pda. The annoying slowdown when playing POWDER is now almost gone. Once in a while it still gives me a short freeze, but these freezes are not as frequent as before. The game is much more playable now.
by the way, when I was wandering through my windows folder, I realized that there are an enourmous number of youtube files in it. How unfortunate, because I never use the youtube application. Appearantly, too much storage space is wasted for a program that I never use. I will definitely consider a non-youtube non-manilla non-htchome ROM for the next flash.

ok, couldn't wait till morning. I have been testing the rom for last hour and oh God!... this is the best, fastest, most stable ROM I have flashed in a while. I installed my regular set of software and it is still lightning fast. the windows directory loads in under a second. Probably something like 0.3 seconds!!! All applications are so responsive and everything works so fast, I am finding it difficult to not to cry. Let's see what will happen after a couple of days. But seriously, my hermes hasn't been this awesome for the last two months.
the links not working
Look around, there are a heap of Lite roms available at the moment... Try Darkvision or Tai_SW's rom... Just to name a couple...
I'm following... so heres my idea. I'm not gonna flash my phone just yet (I got a good rom working on it), but...
Can someone either point me to an ultra light rom that has titanium home, or possibly explain how to get titanium onto a non-titanium rom? I know thats like asking "how do you build an engine" or something, but is there a good starting point?
All I want is a rom thats fast, has titanium home, and has the Touchflo 2d phone skin (for big fingers).
P.S>. Why do roms slow down over time for no reason? I've noticed the latest crop of 6.5 roms run good for a day or two, then start going REALLY slow. I can't nail it down.. I try Oxios but it doesn't help. I'm not installing anything either. The honeycomb gets jerky, the "red end button" starts getting a lag / not working at all, etc.
Thanks.
hi all, if im right then my warrenty on my TP2 finishes in september.
So what im looking to do is stick a new cooked rom on there.
im pi55ed off with my phone because its sooo slow and it keeps failing on me but i dont want to get rid of it really because 99% of my friends either have crackberrys or ipoones and i want to be different.
i am a complete n00b with all the techy stuff like tweeking the phone.
I have a few questions for people with cooked roms
1 - what sort of memory does your rom run at?
2 - how long does your battery last and on what type of usage?
3 - do you need to keep doing soft re-sets?
4 - is your new rom quick and reliable?
5 - are all the features quick and realiable such as bluetooth?
i think thats it for now, i will start looking into the roms more from now on so i can hopefully just do it once and do it right the first time.
however if there are any chefs in london who are willing to build me a complete custom rom then PM me and we will discuss it further about the rom and pricing for your time ect...
THANKS in advance!!
1. The memory of some chef's ROMs can run as low as 40% on startup, moving up to about 50-60%. It depends. Look for the "lite" or "clean" ROMs for better memory.
2. The battery lasts me all day, heavy use through texting, phone calls, and internet. Using GPS, I'd imagine your battery would die fast, and phone calls don't seem to last longer than 3 hours before needing to be recharged.
3. Sadly, soft resets are needed for almost every WinMo device. That's the downside of all WinMo devices, though on the plus side, you get infinite customizability.
4. One of the most reliable ROMs with the most features is Valkyrie's ROM by Agent_47. I'm honestly no fanboy, but I have tried everyone else's ROMs, normal version, not lite or clean, and they all lack, or are crippled.
5. I don't use bluetooth, but wifi, phone signal, and GPS signal depend really on what radio you use. The different radios can be found in the ROM section. I use the most current one, .77, and I get good strength on all of the above.
thanks for the info, heres a bit more about my phone and its uage atm...
on the stock rom im using with using cleanram my phone runs around 60% - 70% but startup is just over 40%
Also i found my battery lasted 2 days when i had a 2gb card and now just over a day if im lucky with the 8gb card, so i may change it for a 4gb card which should be enough space for me.
Well, some clean and lite ROMs have as much as 80 MB free at start up (meaning, I believe that you would only have 20% on startup; any members can correct me if I'm wrong). I have only had 40% at most at startup, because I use feature packed ROMs.
I don't know anything about the SD card using more phone power, but you can give the 4 GB card a try. I get over 2 days on minimum usage with an 8 GB SD card. With max usage, as I said, I get about a full days use, with around 40-50% of battery life left.
also if anyone is local to me and wouldnt mind letting me have a quick play with there tp2 with a cooked rom to see how different it is to stock then please PM me
i went into a vodafone store today to double check about my warrenty, but after the 12 months manufacturer warrenty is over then vodafone have their own warrenty to cover the phone untill my contract is over.
now i know this im unsure if i should flash my rom now incase i do have anymore problems with the phone ??
what do you all suggest?
Just do the flash and get it over with You only have ONE first flash and then after that everything wont be as stressfull..
Also.. if you want to see what custom roms look like running on the phone just search for some custom roms on youtube. I'm sure you'll see some there. You'd get a more thurough view of what they do then if you were just bumbling around with it for 5 minutes on your own.
fair enough, i need to get my compuuter working then i guess to flash it!!

Because custom ROM's don't have the critical "signature" that can only come from the manufacturer or carriers themselves. The stock SPL won't allow ROM's that don't have that signature, so that's why you have to replace SPL with a custom one when you want to flash ROM's issued by anybody than the carriers or HTC.
Sorry for the threadjack... but i was wondering the same things as the topic starter...
May i just add a few more questions?
*Roms like Energy, do they support BT and GPS?
*Is the problem with the sms lag (phone not waking on receiving) solved by a cooked rom?
*What are the major drawbacks when switching for standard to cooked? Ok the waranty is cancelled but anymore?
*I have a WWE version with WM6.5 ==> can i only install rom for 6.5 or can i install roms based on 6.1?
*I've looked at radios and the compatiblitylist... does this mean i have to install the wwe radio to get my device working?
feel free to ask questions here about roms ans im interested in the answers too

I don't know about two cabs to make it run faster, but there's two that will help with the memory management and help keep more of it free for you, is that what you're thinking about? They're called the SSK Dynamic Resource Proxy cab and the no push internet cab.
I recently flashed deepshining x7 rom and I can't believe I waited so long. My TP2 feels faster and I love all the options available such as Cookie's home tabe editor and the such. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you flash. You can always flash back to the original if you don't like it.

You bet! And yeah, these are the first two cabs I recommend all new Rhodium owners run...I don't know if they'll clear up all your issues, but you should at least see a significant change in available RAM.
Ive just put them onto my phone and doing a soft reset!
Ive also changed to the windows today menu last night and its running a bit better with that!!
Hi, I have a Verzion TP2 and finally took the plunge to do the VZW WM6.5 upgrade.
Bad decision! I'm experiencing really slow performance and reduced battery life.
I like some of the new features, but the slow performance is not acceptable.
Anyone have any good advice for speeding things up? I know disabling sense UI will help, but then it would just be another crappy WM UI phone.
I did some searching here and wasn't able to find much. (Admittedly I didn't spent tons of time looking.)
Help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Just put a custom rom on your phone and most of your problems are solved. And believe me, you never want to go back to stock.
THanks for the info. Not certain that I want to go away from stock because my carrier (Verizon) may get quite cranky & not want to support me or service my phone if something goes wrong.
I have an unbranded European version of the phone on the UK Vodafone network, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. But I thought I would offer some advice based on my own experiences.
Firstly I assume the version of WM6.5 you upgraded to is the Sense 2.1 version and not Sense 2.5? I remember when I first upgraded I immediately noticed a big slowdown in comparison to the WM6.1 version which flew. If it's any help, you'll soon learn to live with the slowdown and eventually it will become "normal" and it's only when you downgrade you'll realise the difference.
In terms of speeding up the device there is not much you can do, apart from reduce the ram usage. There are a couple of cabs which significantly lower the ram usage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
Secondly you might want to install an app called "memmaid" or "sktools" and disable certain processes and apps from starting up. Admittedly I don't really know what most of these processes do, but I've generally found these ones are ok to disable:
certenroll
notificationmanager
htcsipsrvc
gpsprivacy
softwaredisable
htcservices
dtpt
sqmupload
btagsvc
ssw
ussd
htcap
The same goes for startup applications where I have found these are ok to disable. (ignore the apps that are not installed on your device)
poutlook
speedbmonitor
delwmptempfolder
htcstartup
pkg
spbmobileshell (I have a switcher between this and Sense interface so dont need it on startup)
memmaidtweaks
superstarter.exe
Also, I remember seeing certain apps u can download from here that strip certain branded roms of all the bloatware. As my Touch Pro 2 is not branded, I've never used one and don't have any knowledge on them. But I'm sure someone on here will gladly point you in the right direction for a Verizon one. (If it indeed exists)
You might also want to install "advancedconfig" where you can tweak certain things in your phone to speed it up a bit.
I realise you don't want to go down the custom rom route, but unfortunately it may the only way to achieve what you want. I've now customised my official WM6.5 Sense 2.1 rom to how I want it (whilst waiting for my upgrade so I can switch to something like the HTC Desire on Android) and therefore don't use a custom rom, but I've tested the vast majority of the custom roms and I'm sure you'll find something you like. In your case, I'd suggest a hybrid of WM6.1 with the Sense 2.5 interface. If you can get your head around the lack of smooth scrolling in certain apps and what-not, you'll find a nice balance of speed and a very pretty sense 2.5 interface. (I personally couldn't get my head around it haha!)
I'd very much like to use a custom rom as I quite like Sense 2.5, but there was always a problem with the text message app. Be it the very slow "HTC Messaging" or the problem with the unread count after disabling it. I haven't tried a custom rom in a few months now so I'm not sure if this has been resolved. If so, can someone please let me know as I can't keep hard resetting my phone to test.
Anywayz good luck, and I hope this helped a bit. I don't come on this site too often but I will bookmark this page and try and remember to check it so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks fade to black for your well laid out response.
I am also waiting to upgrade to the Desire next month but I am not sure I want to get rid of my Touch pro 2. I am so used to the hardware keyboard plus even though I would have had the phone for 1 year by 30 July, it looks brand new. Carrying 2 smartphones about is not an option for me. I have also just had the screen replaced under warranty after it developed newton rings. HTC returned the phone with the latest WM6.5 i.e. with Sense 2.5 and it seems very smooth. No crashes or nothing since I have had it back about a week now.
You're very lucky then as I still have a year left on my contract :-( Lol..
Yeah losing the hardware keyboard is a bit worrying, but i've not had the HTC Wizard, then the Kaiser, and then the Touch Pro 2. So to be honest I'm quite looking forward to a "thin" device for once. Hopefully will be able to get used to the onscreen keyboard.
You could always try waiting a few more months until HTC release an android device with a keyboard? Tbh it's quite surprising how they haven't already.
@Fade2Black101 Thanks for the suggestions! I have begun looking at things and immediately went for disabling the push internet because my memory is a bit tight. Well, instead of installing the CAB file I went in to manually edit the registry and found that it was not enabled in my ROM. :-(
I'm going to try some of the other stuf you suggested, but have not had time as of yet.
I probably shouldn't be, but I am shocked that Verizon released an update that brings the phone to it's knees in terms of performance.
was there a noticable difference in ram usage after editing the push setting? I remember when I tried doing it manually and it didnt have the same effect as installing the cab. So unless you noticed a big change, i'd suggest using the cab.
I don't have Verizon, but, if the rom's out there for Verizon are like the GSM ones, you can probably download the "stock" Verizon Rom, in case you need warranty service. Just flash back to the stock version before returning it.
Of course, if you phone is unbootable, then, you're pretty much screwed

I checked the registry and the settings weren't even there except for one and it was set to disabled. Also when I check the task manager under processes, opera isn't there. So I'm pretty sure that push internet is not running on my phone.
hi, just wondering if there are any roms available that are completely stable and finished for this phone?
if not, (as i have not found any), is the original stock rom (rojers) available to download anymore?
thanks guys..

After reading a lot, I believe I can confirm that only GB, and stock ICS are stable, as with no issues, some little glitches but no deal breakers. As for Rogers, there's only Osimod GB ROM based of Rogers. The rest are based of UCLJ3

I may be off base here but I guess the [4.4] cyanogenmod 11 and omni ROM are pretty much stable ...
Though the pretty much is still a while away from complete the following are the general bugs with bubor's amazing Roms:
There is an audio bug when making VoIP calls which gives audio latency ..
There is fixed camera rotation which means all the pictures are in landscape
There is no Wi-Fi direct
Google experience launcher is not that Good looking (I know I am complaining)
Google maps 7 has issues but can be dual loaded with maps 6 so they work
Backlight,PPI, lag all have fixes though
Battery drain is a bit more
But as far as performance goes... They are pretty smooth..
So I guess make your choice

i wish i could agree with you.. im running kitkat crdroid, and like every rom i have flashed over the years, has plenty of bugs that make it very annoying as a daily rom. phone switching off twice a day, icons/widgets dissapearing after rebooting, becomes laggy after a week or so of usig the rom, laggy browsing on all browsers, trebucket crashing regurly etc etc, thats on top of the bugs you list.. the only roms that are stable are completely finished official cm or miui roms (which there are none for this fone..). the stock rom is the only one that has not given me trouble. with the greatest respect to those that put their time i to make these roms, im sure people who flash them make them out to be more stable than they really are unfortunatelly.
Maybe we have developer aura or something like that? I'm sure I just used 4.4 PAC ROM for a week without reboot or any crashes. Bluetooth, fixed camera rotation and VoIP - yes, these are issues we can't fix, the same is with google maps v.7 (we just have no hardware NEON support that uses v.7 of maps). There is also issue with wi-fi: if you turn it off, it sometimes don't turns on until reboot. As for myself, I just never turn it off.
Besides of these issues, everything is smooth and stable. Really is. But I got sometimes trebuchet crashes - this was a time when I flashed dirty and didn't make a factory reset - the new trebuchet version sometimes conflicts with the data from old version. I just went to Settings - Apps, found Trebuchet (or Launcher3 if old version) and tapped Erase Data. And the issue was gone! But I recommend to always make a factory reset with new ROM. That's really important.
And even if you have those constant trebuchet bugs whatever you do (icons disappearing is also a trebuchet bug, I never encountered it though), just install a different launcher. Google now launcher is the basic, and is like trebuchet in many ways, miui one is also good, and others, they are many!
I had problems with some icons disappearing when the system reboots. I found that the icons that disappeared were for applications which were installed on the SD card. When I moved them to the system, they stopped disappearing.

like i said in my first post, i do really appriciate the fact that people spend Alot of time cooking theese roms, and it easy for me to come along and moan about them, but i have found over the years that after using a custom rom for a couple of weeks or so, its like the ram seems to gradually get eaten away, the device gradually slows down, becomes laggy and ultimately unuseable (not just this fone, and not just me that says this). im not saying all are like this, just many i have used, mainly because they never get finished.
i am very open though to people suggesting that i am doing something wrong, and maybe you have picked up on that something.. you say you do a factory reset, can i ask, do you mean a factory reset in the fone settings, or are you referring to a full wipe using cwm/twrp? as when i flash, i wipe everything accept what i dont want wiped on the external sd.. i dont factory reset, is this after you have flashed the new rom? or before you flash a new rom?
also thank you for the erase data tip for trebucket, i will try that.. i have not used the google now launcher yet, but i tried using miui launcher but when i went back to trebucket the lockscreen stayed as the miui lockscreen, which has happened on past cm roms, so i just deleted it.
just gets a bit frustrating when you spend hours getting everything working/setting up personalisation, then the phone just seems to start getting worse day by day, but maybe like you say, its cos i "dirty flashed"?

i did think that, and im sure you are right, but i have had every app/folder/widget dissappear twice now, then, randomly over several restarts, some widgets/apps will replace themselves over the top of the new ones i have just newly placed there.. strange, but i have came across this before on cm roms, so im sure there is a bug there somewhere, even if it is not too common..

Yes, what you do should suffice. I meant cwm/twrp wipe (boot, system, data, cache, android.secure). SD card is not touched. So you are doing fine with that, but anyway, there has to be something make those issues... Can you look at /system/addon.d folder? There is stored info about files that will be preserved even if you install a new ROM with a wipe. If there are many leftovers from ROMs or programs you tried earlier, then you should try to manually clear this folder before new ROM install.

That was the point with pre-4.2 ROMs, and even with 4.2 there was a bug with gallery thumbnails which made it to eat gigabyte and more of storage after some time. That was fixed in CM 10.1.3. Also a Lite-Kernel used by earlier ROMs is very great, but has its issues, for example, systemui crashes when camera launch after some phone use and sleep of death.
I used CM 10.1.3 for a a three months and still keeping a backup of it for a some case. There was no slowing or lagging, it was almost perfect (if you don't use VoIP or BT handset) even after those months of use. Strangely, but I didn't have even "settings -> about crash" issue bubor listed!
Welll here are some tip which have helped me

i .. umm.. well i agree that as of now they have issues but they will get better .. ours is an old device... so i guess we should tread slowly . which is exactly what the developers are doing .. .
and i agree on the ram hungry part but there are ways for that too . .
funny i have been messaging people to help me post this stuff through them . . but well thats the prob with being a junior member .
My personal tested suggestions for omni rom which have really incremented to the performace some of which are :
- using one of the lightest launchers as i find trebuchet and even google launcher RAM hungry is 'Lightning Launcher' the bloody app itself is in BYTES!!
-also i use link2sd with ext4 that helps in storage and also use sd maid for regular clean up.
-also i have been testing memory swapping using linux swap partition on sd card (class 10 ) and yeah i know it degrades sd card but oh well like Glados testing testing testing
-i have also switch off startup at boot for certain apps
and i apologize for posting what maybe well known tricks or improvs but i really dont know where else to post these (still have the ten post ban from posting )
and if these dont help then sorry to waste your time . .
PS anyone think an F2FS file system like for the nexus7 would\might help ?
tl;dr use the given tips maybe they might help . . and with custom roms i guess you have to spend time to keep them running well .

ok thanks, i cleared the data in trebucket, and started again with placing apps/widgets on home screen, and i also have deleted the hacked version of adobe flash that you install with dolphin browser, and, supprisingly after a couple of days of testing, my apps/widgets are not deleting themselves, the phone is significantly less laggy, and i have had no switch offs, so, im very pleased with that! so id suggest against downloading that version of flash player with this rom..

For what it's worth, I recently had to reflash and decided to use dman325's stock UCLJ3. (He has two versions, stock and one with the aosp lockscreen. If you decide to use either, use the stock one. dman325 had to resign the aosp one with a test signing key that, recently, got invalidated or declined and it prevents Google Play from updating past 3.7.15 and Google Play Services wont install at all because of a shared_uid fault due to certificate conflict, etc.)
I got frustrated with the amount of bloat in an otherwise vendor fun-packed rom, so I went in and hacked out lots of crap. Largely relying on either "what is safe to get rid of" lists for similar samsung phones and my own poking around/guestimation using dex2jar and jd-gui. I really, honestly don't understand what InputEventApp.apk was meant to do. Seriously. But, getting rid of it reduced the logcat spam tremendously. Also, the wsslcm* apks are somewhat frightening in appearance.
I've gone a few steps further, I modified android.policy.jar smali to prevent the emergency dial option from showing up on the lock screen - I accidentally pocket dialed 911 a year ago and am not about to do that again. I also modified the kernel ramdisk image to set ro.debuggable=1 and ro.secure=0. I tried, while I was at it, to replace /dev/random with /dev/urandom, but I'll have to do some experimenting.
I've added a few static binaries for proper gnu utilities. bash, ls, grep, sort, du, etc. It surprises me that a functional shell environment doesn't get more attention on phones with keyboards.
So, that's my $0.02. Try the stock UCLJ3 and fiddle with it a bit. Good luck.

Well, you learn by doing, I believe. Also, I have a classy - for a flip phone - Motorola Razr2 v8 kicking around I can always put my SIM into if I've managed to hose my captivate glide. Also, I'm replying because I can't post in the rom development forum until I have 10 posts. Hurray for well founded, but nonetheless arbitrary restrictions. So, a number of things have piqued my curiosity.
So, first of all, this surprised me in the logs:
Code:
I/Launcher( 2263): onCreate(): product model family:U1 product model : GT-I9221
I'd always wondered why I had an SGH-I927 when other phones, like the remarkably similar Galaxy R, are GT-I9103. Is/was GT-I9221 an internal reference?
Also, there are other inconsistencies, for example:
Code:
D/RILJ ( 426): [1718]> REQUEST_GET_NEIGHBORING_CELL_IDS
D/RILJ ( 426): [1718]< REQUEST_GET_NEIGHBORING_CELL_IDS error: com.android.internal.telephony.CommandException: REQUEST_NOT_SUPPORTED
If you jump into the debug/field test menu system, (dial *#*#197328640#*#* ) you can bring up the list of neighboring cells in both GSM and WCDMA modes... So, why is the request marked not supported? Furthermore, why didn't samsung disable the request in the first place if they went to the trouble of disabling it from working. I imagine this has a reason, but I doubt it's a terribly great one.
And the FM receiver? I do believe our broadcom BCM4329 is a bluetooth+wifi_in_an_sdcard (well, SDIO really, but still, not pci-e and not usb.) and has an FM receiver built in, but it's omitted and hidden?
Code:
W/AudioPolicyManager( 112): FM radio recording off
Oh, the conspiracy theories. And then there's the weird lines you discover if you dump the string identifiers from /system/bin/drexe!
For example, these lines are all sequential:
Code:
broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE android_secret_code://767*3855
InvokeOemRequestHookRaw broadcast factorst OK
InvokeOemRequestHookRaw factorst fail %d
/system/.configure.txt
(what's with /system/.configure.txt???)
Do not type 767*3855 into your phone. It's the factory wipe code or possibly part of it. I do believe drexe is the DataRouter you often see spamming the logs with:
Code:
E/DataRouter( 107): usb connection is true
E/DataRouter( 107): DSR is ON. Don't send DTR ON.
And we find these strings in drexe:
Code:
__initialize_usb_ipc
/data/.usb_stream
usb connection is true
InvokeOemRequestHookRaw usbstatus true is success
oh, and:
Code:

What do you think? Why does drexe seem to have code to support and start a shell? Well, if nothing else, thank you for reading.
P.S. I don't suspect anything the least bit conspiracy like, malicious, or devious. I've worked for some huge companies; i don't think it'd be likely.

Also, I'm replying because I can't post in the rom development forum until I have 10 posts. Hurray for well founded, but nonetheless arbitrary restrictions.

Technically, you can post in cappy dev forums started from 3 posts. I saw someone posting there his fourth post.
As for other things you listed... Well, I'll be glad to have an FM receiver in our glide. But I really think that reason for all this staff can be as simply as hands growing from wrong place or restricted development time...

I recently, after some research, also installed dans stock (i decided to go complete stock since i didnt know what the lock screen thing meant).
I havent had any trouble with being outdated. Only thing i noticed (unless im doing it wrong, im new to this phone) was that screencaps dont work. its power button and volume down, right?
Other things id like to customize are data being in the top drawer instead of bluetooth (since i never use it), and id like to be able to see who texted me on the lock screen, but while still using the stock messaging app, and without an app having to constantly run.
Other than those couple of things its been great!
im HOPING down the road for an un-buggy or at least minimally buggy version of 4.4. well see what happens with that i guess.
Some help

well i always say stock is best cause it IS optimized however there are things like keep and total Google integration that i like so i updated to kit kat
for screen caps if they dont work i could maybe suggest an application called super manager its pretty loaded it has screen cap and may even give you prox sense wake up for device.
also customizing the drawer hmm.. i guess you could try xposed framework but please be careful and make a backup before
as for who texts you and the content of the text you could try dash clock its able to do a lot
hello guys I was just wondering if I could get some help since I returned back to fully Ice Cream Sandwich Stock. I completely removed all the system bloat with link2sd, uninstalled all att crap. Can anyone recommend me something since I feel the ram consuption still to high... battery so far is doing kind of good almost as in crdroid
But i believe it can be improved. Any recommended settings or something else i can do? Already tried lite kernel but it gave me some issues. Rather keep stock. Any recommendations please guys. Also if you know a "ok google" like app or something as a swifty assistant would be nice. Please recommend. Thanks in advance

hi, just wondering if there are any roms available that are completely stable and finished for this phone?
if not, (as i have not found any), is the original stock rom (rojers) available to download anymore?
thanks guys..

Hi,
well that depends.. on what you mean with "finished"
I have tested all (3 months ago) available ROMs for the Glide. IMO the best available ROM is PACman but as said it depends. I used pac_i927-milestone.1.RC1.4.zip for a long time (months) without having any issues besides Bluetooth Headset which is a general problem in JB and higher version). I have tried other PACMan ROM versions as well but the above one was the best of stability and battery life (in my case).
So it depends what features you really need or are a must-have for you. If you do not have bluetooth headsets I would recommend the above otherwise .. well I would recommend sediROM

Haven't done that before but would be rooted ICS stock also ok for you?
If so:
--> search for thread ID 1994902 or search for: [ROM] Stock UCLJ3 Rooted, Deodexed, Zipaligned
(sorry not allowed to post links..)
