When I'm in clockworkmod I can't use the power key to select any of the options. I can move up and down with the volume keys but the power button just dims the screen.
I flashed a ROM that I don't like so I want to go back to a different ROM that I backed up. Can I just go load the backup without a factory reset or do I have to do the reset? How can I do the reset and flash the backup if my power key doesn't work?
Sorry I'm a noob
Power button in Clockword Mod only dims the screen. Pressing the TRACKPAD selects stuff.
Also, wrong forum. Next time, try the Q/A forum.

oh haha. I could have sworn it was the power button that I used the first time I used it.
Do I need to factory wipe when loading a backup thats from a different ROM or can I just load it with ROM manager?

it was the power button up until a few updates back... if you are doing something other than a CM based to CM based ROM then yeah you should wipe.

You should get into the habit of always wiping. Always, just to be safe.

Hi,
i've just used the unrevoked one click method to root, which was successful.
I can boot into CWM recovery and use volume keys to go up and down the options, but when i press the power button to access a sub menu such as backup and restore it is just displaying a blank screen with no further options?
any suggestions welcomed.
edit: never mind, was pressing the wrong damn button, sheesh

(bare with me, i am kind of a noob, i rooted my phone, but i think somone else flashed a rom..not sure and it has nova launcher) I have Verizon Galaxy Nexus and I am about to trade it along with some cash to someone with a note 2. I currently have my phone rooted and i think it is running a rom. If i just do the default factory reset...will that be good enough for when we swap phones?

yeah thats AOKP, a custom rom.. and yeah you could do a factory reset there but i would recommend doing it in recovery, power down you, hold both volume buttons and power button at the same time to get into the bootloader. then press the down volume button twice until you see "recovery mode", and press the power button to select. now if you see a android with a exlamation you have stock recovery so you will need to press and hold the power button then press the up button.. but i am 99% sure you will have a custom recovery and that wont be needed.. but either way when you get to recovery do a factory reset
PS- i find it weird that you knew to put the "[Q]" before the title but didnt post this thread in the Q&A section

I can use "adb reboot recovery" to enter TWRP 2.7 recovery mode, but I want to use key combination, please tell me how to that.
Hold Power + Vol Down > Wait until LG Logo pops up and release from both buttons > quickly hold Power + Vol Up + Vol Down again
It will pop up with some message about reset to factory settings, but it's all a bluff.
Hit Power x3 times to confirm and you'll get to TWRP recovery
Thanks, it works.
actually I enter this factory reset mode before, but i just don't know it a "fake".
so will this erase all data or not?

That will depend on whether you've installed TWRP or not.
If you've still got the original recovery it will wipe it like it says it will, if you've got a custom recovery it will take you to it.
The standard recovery isn't a recovery like you're expecting it to be, if just has a way of resetting things to default without allowing you to do anything extra. OEM don't like giving people options but want a way to reset to defaults that the customer can use before needing to return a faulty unit which might not be faulty. If that makes sense.

From what I can tell, it's not a "bluff". It seems that the stock recovery partition would just automatically do a factory reset, so it warns you before booting the recovery partition. Seeing as you're non-stock, it just boots into TWRP/CWM. It's a valid warning that's simply set up in a weird way.

You don't.
We'll you might be able to but you're going about it the wrong way.
First you need to find the right forum for your device, then you read, followed by more reading.
At some point you've hopefully discovered that you should have done all this reading before you reset your device.
Also before pressing the post button on your next post, read it first to make sure it makes sense.
Thank you very much, I tried other combinations found on some web pages that failed. This one worked!
Issue remains.

It cannot write ANY data ANYWHERE. Can't take pics, Can't take screenshots, Can't download apps. Nothing. I really want my tablet back... :/

I'm probably not the best person to help, however if you put a new post up with more details on what you have access too, the community will be able to help out.

Install LG software on your computer first. Then with the tablet completely off, hold VolUp and plug the tablet into the computer. That will enter LG download mode. Use the LG software on your PC to install the latest firmware available for your device. From there you can use the guides on this forum to go custom if you so desire.
Well, i wanted to restore my backed up rom, i went to twrp and restored the rom without wiping data, dalvik cache ect. it went to boot loop saying " setup wizard stopped " after reaching lockscreen and went booting again.. then i found a way to go to recovery again, i wiped the cache and stuff and restored the same back up and the same problem now no change, now i cant go inside custom recovery whatever i try.. :/ . will i be able to go to recovery after the battery is drained?
or u know a method to go inside recovery?
Have you tried holding the volume down button down when the screen goes blank? This will get you into the bootloader. You can also hold power and volume up and when the screen goes blank hold volume down only.

How long did you hold it for? You have to hold the buttons for a good ten seconds or so. You're saying the screen never goes black for a few seconds between loops?

thank u, it worked but now when i flash there is no on screen buttons and notifications at all and im stuck with 1 rom :/
the computer does not recognize my device as "on" itself!!
what to do plz help
Connect SD card reader to your computer and use it to put a ROM on removable SD. Insert the SD into the phone, and flash the ROM from recovery.
I also just came over this problem,
I've been using TWRP on all my phones for years and constantly flashing/restoring various roms.
Did I do something wrong?
I backed up using the default options and restored the same way as I always do but I had the same issue.

Make sure you firmware corresponds to the nandroid you are trying to restore.
But if they do match (correct firmware for the ROM being restored) it might just be a random thing. TWRP on this (and other recent devices like my Sammy Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4) seems a little less reliable than in the past. As long as your TWRP version is up to date, there isn't much else you can do. Except maybe keep a few different nandroids (probably on your computer, since they take so much space) in case the most recent one doesn't restore correctly.
Thanks for the reply. I also tried installing the exact same ROM again and set it up, then tried to restore but still the same problem. Thanks anyway I'll maybe try another backup and delete the old one. Thanks again
If you're restoring a ROM through the TWRP restore function make sure you always wipe always wipe data and system before restoring unless you're only restoring data or just system itself. Then only wipe that certain parition. But never restore a backup of another ROM base onto a different base without installing the ROM you are restoring first. That will cause a lot of issues, constant FC, and bootloop.
I was attempted to factory reset my tablet because I was almost out of space. I flashed the T800XXU1ANJ6_T800XAR1ANI1_XAR through ODIN and now I can't get past the Samsung screen. Help me!
Use the three button combo to get into recovery, do a data wipe.
If it still doesnt boot then:
Use the three button combo to reboot into download mode.
Reinstall via ODIN.

Easy fix this has worked for a few people in the same position as you, try pressing power +vol down and up together+home and then as soon as screen goes dark/black press power+vol up+home hopefully that will get you into recovery and once there do a factory reset and wipe cach and then reboot. It may take a while to reboot.
That got me up......found the post about it as well.....

You can't do it with stock Samsung. It requires root and the only apps I've seen that can make that mod use Xposed framework (I use the Xanam app), which may mean we'll be SOL if going to Lollipop until the Xposed stuff catches up. I haven't really researched how Xposed for Lollipop is coming along yet.
