[Q] "no sd-ext found. skipping backup of sd-ext." - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should I be concerned with getting this message while doing nandroid backups? Will I have any problem with restoring a backup that has generated this message? The backup still finishes and says "Backup complete!" I just don't like error messages... Sorry for being a newb

I would also like to note that every other aspect of my phone seems to be running perfecly. Just a little hesitant to upgrade my Skyraider 3.0 if this is going to be an issue. Thanks in advance.

Cosmetic problem. Either create an sd-ext partition on your SD card so it finds it (there's more than 1 tutorial floating around) or ignore the issue.
It is just trying to back up apps you've moved to your sd-card (which you haven't done, so it gives you an error).

Ok, great! Thanks for clearing that up.

Pretty much sums it up. For an easy fix, check out the last line of my signature. It should fix this, too.

Market download problem - only affects Copilot

Hi, hopefully someone can help with a weird problem I'm having.
Copilot started closing back to the home screen after 5 minutes of use a couple of weeks ago. I tried all sorts to sort it out including uninstalling. But now when I try to redownload it the arrow appears in the notification area for 5 seconds then disappears.
I've tried clearing the market cache and data.
I've got 35mb of space available.
I've signed out of and back into google talk.
Everything else downloads fine both free and paid for.
I'm running LeeDrOiD 2.3d with a2sd+.
Anyone got any idea what could be wrong?
I'd be very grateful as this is a major pain and Copilot tech support seem to have run out of ideas.
Thanks.

Did you change your partition tables? Could you not have enough space on your cache partition as can happen with the oxygen partition table?
If not I suggest trying an alternative marketplace like app brain.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I've not touched the partition table.
Just tried from appbrain too, but that links to the market and does the same thing.
Thanks for trying though.
Any other ideas?

I have same setup with Leedroid 2.3d and a2sd.
Not sure if this will help but, ll was fine while I had an ext 3 partition. I altered it to try one of the HD ports (which insisted on Ext4) which refused to load and I had to put Leedroid back on (with the ext4) All kinds of problems then including yours.
I ended up doing the gpart thing again to move the partition back to ext3 and all is fine now. Copilot installed first time.
I was running a hd rom before going back to LeeDrOiD. So might have gone for ext 4. Can gparted change it to ext 3 without losing the contents?
Can I check on the phone whether I have ext3 or ext 4?

if you do a nandroid backup before you re-partition your card..... then choose the advanced restore option and restore the sd-ext
Right thanks for that. I'll give it a go and report back... hopefully.

I'm beginning to think my phone might be quite ill.
I am doing a nandroid backup and it's been stuck at backing up cache now for about 10 minutes and the bar isn't moving.
Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

takes me 20-25 mins to do a nandroid backup btw remember to back up your sd card, partitioning it will erase both partitions
Patience was needed it took 20 mins. It's usually a lot faster than that.
Converted my partition to ext3, restored the backup and guess what. It's exactly the same.
Download arrow appears for 5 seconds then disappears.
Back to the drawing board.
Any other suggestions?

Sorry to bump, but still no solution yet.
I had market download issues once.
I used the Catlog app to look into the logs right after trying to download and saw an error message.
Apparently some temporary file couldn't be created because it was already there. A manual delete of the file using root explorer fixed the issue.
I don't remember the path and the name of the file and the issue might be different in your case so I suggest checking the Catlog app.
Try to download in the market then open Catlog. Then scroll until you see errors (in red).
It should give you a lead...
Managed to solve the problem with a full wipe.
Clearing the cache in recovery didn't do it.
Bit drastic, but needed to be done.
Thanks for the helps.

HELP!!! can't create nandroid backup

i would love to create a nandroid backup for my galaxy s 3 (sgh-t999)... but i keep getting these error messages when i am doing the backup through cwm
"unable to find volume."
"Error finding an appropriate backup handler."
does anybody know how to fix this? i know that this is not something that will impede my daily use of the phone but since i flash roms, it is a great idea to have a backup just in case.
does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this... or has anybody dealt with this before?
Having the same issue on my AT&T
have you tried other versions (even older) of clockwork? There were issues like this for Sprint, going back to 5.8.4.5, eve though v 5.8.4.8 was available, did the fix. try that
hes right, went to rom manager and looked at available recoveries at the bottom and picked the oldest one available which was .5 and now i can make backups, and have access to the external sd, yay
Good deal... Click thanks....

thanks for the suggestion... i tried that. there were two older versions. the one that was .5 wasnt even able to mount the sd card. the .6 version had the same issue as the latest version.
also... might mean nothing... but i noticed that when it tries to do a backup, i dont see cwm scrolling through all of the files like it is backing up like it did with all my other phones. it says backing up data, but it doesnt like go through file by file. is that normal?
SOLVED!!!
found a post where it solved my problem... hope it works for everybody else. just deleting the ".android_secure" folder on my sd card solved everything.... its always the easiest solutions that seem to evade us. if it helps, you should thank the person who solved it

[Q] d2spr mod and no sdcard.

First and foremost, I pray this is the right thread. Trying to do right.
Hello to all.
My 8 gb sd Card is not accessible. I see it in "about phone storage", but when I click on it, I get a message that says "sorry, settings has stopped worrking".
I have the CyanogenMod 10-20120815 UNOFFICIAL-d2spr.
I am very new to this and I am learning as I go.
The Kernel is "3.0.40-cyanogenmod-g7de7eff
[email protected]#29
Tue Aug 14 19:16:16 PDT 2012
CPU ARMv7 Processor rev(v71)
Build number :cm_d2spr-eng 4.1.1 JRO03L eng
shareef.20120814.221509 test-keys
Oh yeah, Android Ver :4.1.1
I do have a very slight flicker on app opening. I have very few complaints with the mod since it is my first and I have to learn how to KEEP UP.
So please, any advice will be greatly appreciated. AND I have been searching for a fix and "googling" terminology as I search. If you could direct me to the "stable" "official" "no leak" (learned what that is) and/or the latest, is it "nightly", I would be so happy. I take a lot of pictures and I do not want to use internal memory for that.
I did download , "cm-9-20120916-nightly-d2spr". Should I install that one over the old one, or should I do a clean install.
Please help. Trying to fix screw up with the latest "hightly". SMH. But I am Learning.
TIA
Blessings
okay lemme see if I have this straight.you're on Cyanogen 10 (4.1)now and u want to downgrade to cyanogen 9(4.0)?. I dont understand why but if you're going to do it you have to wipe. I would wipe system is well. as far is the screen flickering, it happens on some builds. your current version is outdated.I would download the newest build(9/18) from http://get.cm/?device=d2spr. Runnin now no complaints. as far as the SD card goes, can it be seen in recovery? Thinkin maybe needs formatted. if recovery sees it okay try another rom. if it still don't work you should probably re format it.
Thank you so very much. Last night I really screwed up but got phone back booted. I installed "9-20120916-nightly-d2spr. Very buggy. I did not see the 10 version when I downloaded it. So, do I just download it and install over it,or do I have to wipe cache and devlic? I am learning and need some help
Also, I do not have clockwork installed. Was on sd card. I did format to fat32.
Thank you again for the reply.

You could probably get away w/ just wiping cache and dalvik-cache but a full wipe is always recommended. If you don't wipe first and have issues after flashing, go back and do a wipe and reinstall. And if you need recovery grab it from here http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2spr.img flash w/ mobile Odin. Alternatively you can flash this from regular odin on a pc https://dl.dropbox.com/s/87xg1wmhbtvbohn/cwmrecovery.tar?dl=1

BUT THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH for the right and what seems to be a good ROM so far.
I still have a problem with the sdcard. I have the problem that when I click on "audio" in the storage section, it says "sorry settings has stopped working" Any ideas?
The card is formatted to fat32. I changed the formatting from "fat" when I first started having the problems with the bad rom. Could the sdcard be bad just in the phone. It works on laptop.
Also, is there a section so I can update PRL and the other two updates?
Thank you soo much again

Was the card able to be read in recovery? And as of now im gonna blame the rom if you formatted the card. Try making a nandroid backup, wiping everything and reinstalling the rom clean. I bet thats the issue. And no PRL/Profile updates are not available on aosp based roms (aokp,cm,PA)
If you have to do them, do a nandroid backup, wipe all and reinstall something touchwiz based.(Blazer rom,freegs3,Stock etc)

THE ONLY PERSON I trust on YouTube is QBKING77! LOL
I really like the way he EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!
Thank you so much. I am "dropping" a movie onto the ex-sdcard as I type, I will post back
Will watch QBKING77's video as I do the wipe again. Are there videos here that explain as well as QBKING77's? I really appreciate you and your assistance!
God's Blessings to You and Yours and this Forums Members.
I am using ROM Manager/ CWM ver 6.0, following QBKING77's instructions about wiping.
I see this message during the "wipe Dalvik cache". " E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]"
Dalvik Cache wiped.
WOW. I have chills BILLARD412! SO FAR EVERYTHING IS WORKING!!!!!
I am going to install "File Manager" by Rhythm Software. I am doing this to try and access ext-sdcard. When I click on it in the "storage" section. It just "flashes". Well, I do not see an option to "open" ext-sdcard. hmmm What am I doing WRONG?
Thank you so very much!

[Q] Flashed a 4.2.1 ROM from a 4.1.2... Don't know what to do with '0' File... help.

Hi, its my first time posting, I figured I wanted to sign up to XDA eventually so why not when I feel like I've completely ruined my phone... or at least internal sd card...
Basically I rooted my phone and was flashing the Jellybam rom, and everything was going smoothly until I got to the bootloader and my phone started bootlooping. My first thought was 'Oh but I have a backup'. So I went to my backup in CWM and to my dismay I got an error saying "No files were found."
I could clearly see my files from exploring around on my sd card however they were now in a file called '0' and CWM could not read them from there. Without a working ROM I started to panic. However I had a zip of CM10 still on my internal sd card so I flashed that and (luckily) it worked.
Not really being too competent with flashing new ROMs yet I was quite happy that I had anything. So I used titanium backup to reinstall my old apps and data. However once they were installed I now get an error with 'the process android.process.media has stopped'.
I'm guessing this has do do with the fact that I have all my files still on the '0' folder. All the other folders from the '0' folder were the same except they were all empty, soooooo I decided to delete them. At this point I'm guessing that was a really bad idea because my initial plan of moving all the files from '0' to my pc then back to my phone, I did not think about the fact that I would be moving 14 Gb of data...
So basically now I'm hoping if someone knows a way to revert my phone to 4.1.2 by somehow moving all the files from '0' back onto the internal storage (basically getting rid of this '0') folder. The CM10 ROM is a 4.1.2 ROM so its not like I'm fudging up my phone further (I hope).
If you could be as detailed as possible as to what to do that would be great, because I'm really really new to this....
From what I've read I've heard a couple of suggestions:
1. updating the recovery.img of CWM will work? How exactly do I do this?
2. opening abd shell recovery and moving the files like that (however I deleted all the other files in the internal storage apart from '0' because that was where all the data was stored and everything else was empty...'
help. :crying:

So how exactly do I do that? I just download the the latest clockwork mod and flash it? Why can't it be updated via an automatic updater? And what will it do to the file or will it change clockwork mod so that it will scan the entire sd card?
Also if I just remade folders identical to the ones I deleted, will that still work?
I'm just trying to get my phone to be as functional as it was before this all started.
Thanks for replying btw!

That's a lot of question for the simple fix I gave you.. I haven't used cwm in a while so Idk what changed in the update but if people said it fixed it, then it did..
0, 1, 2, etc.. Is something that came with JB, it's for the different users. Not much can be done about it.
About how you should do that: Go on their website, FOLLOW their instructions to a T, Enjoy.
As for why it can be updated via an automatic updater.. Well I'm not the person you should ask.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just worried that I messed up my phone. Would you know if I were able to be able to access my old clockwork mod backups and used one of them, would it put my 0 files back into the internal storage like they used to? Or would it only revert the settings and I would still be SOL.

Yes, that's the whole point of the cwm update. Now to flash it!
Or, go digg through the cm nightly thread. They had a flash able zip that would restore your internal sd after downgrading Android versions.

Storage Space running low question

So I have a quick question that is making little sense. I have recently upgraded to 4.2.2 and tried to do a nandroid back and kept getting an error. Well after some searching it is showing I have 1.36gb of avaliable space. Have checked all media, and etc, apps are only using 1.6gb. Where did all of the other space go? I cleared cache just in case but still nothing. I was thinking this could be a partition problem. But its just really weird. I am going to take a screen shot and upload it. I have searched through this site and google and found nothing related to this issue. Thank you in advance for any advice on how to fix.

Try using DiskUsage. It gives a much clearer and more accurate representation of your storage usage.
Just tried app, it is show 6.6gb for System Data, which is now even more confusing. Roms are ususally 1.5gb at most.

Probably but I'd start from scratch. Restore back to out of the box state (I'd use mskip's Note 8 tool). Then re-root and go from there.
But that's just me.

I would wonder what that 6gb is used up by. So what is the normal size any way?
I would think my system size should be semi normal since I have done nothing to this note yet.
