[Q] Different versions of hardware? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I just got my new Slide in the mail today after my old one's touch screen stopped working. This one is different, though.
I bought my old one the day these came out, and I distinctly remember getting confused with the O9 P0 keys often, because the zero looked just like an O.
However, on this one, the 0 next to the P is smaller and has a line through it, distinctly marking it a zero and not an O.
I'm not asking if I have a different version, I'm asking how many revisions have been done to the phone?

if I remember right there have only been 2 "versions" and the only difference is the change to the KB

att tilt 2 keyboard issue

anyone else having issues with the tilt 2 keyboard?
All my keys are good except for the "u"
sometimes it doesnt want to register a keypress
lol and i cant do an exchange till we get a shipped att tilt 2 rom posted
unless i missed it and one of you guys know where it is
I was looking at the wiki under the shipped roms section and didnt see one
I also saw that its been dumped but i didnt see a packaged rom for it
dont like the spacing. I like the TP keyboard where there was nospacing at all. I could type faster and more efficiently.
I actually like the spacing...it was weird at first since i was using the fuze prior to this but i got used to the spacing pretty fast.
The only thing thats bothering me is the fact that the "u" doesnt register when pressed sometimes.
Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart like the evening among the silent trees.

Frustrated with my HTC Tilt 2

When I finally decided to upgrade my HTC Tilt to the new Tilt 2, never tought all the problems that this will bring.
The first unit was purchased on 2.14.10 at ATT local store. Two weeks later I decided to change the unit because of the many problems encounter.
It's been now two more weeks and this new phone is worst than the first one. I have to do a soft reset at least two times a day. Taskmanager is often gone from my Today screen or any other application.
I have installed a couple of software found around here, but decided to installed all of them to check if the were the problem. They were not.
Yesterday, I finally decided to do a hard reset and start from scratch without any installed software, other that the bloatware included from att.
The problems persist. The phone keeps stalling/freezing over any application. The emails are not being pulled from gmail, hotmail or yahoo (I have 6 configured emails).
What do you guys recommend for this. Doing another hard reset right now it's no easy task since I have to reconfigure all emails, lose SMS, etc.
I was very anxious to get my hands on this phone but it's been a nightmare from day one. My first Tilt was more stable by far.
Thanks for any suggestions, I just have to get this out of me.
It could be any number of things causing your problems.
I myself was very disappointed with my Rhodium when I got it. Was slow, glitchy.
After alot of reading and researching, I found it was most likely due to memory leakage. And that most devices come with a modified/branded ROM from the service provider.
I found that flashing a stock HTC/cooked ROM solved most of the issues. And using an app called 'cleanRAM' freed up alot of memory.
If you dont mind losing your warranty, then I suggest flashing a newer/better ROM. And using cleanRAM to free up any leaked memory instead of a soft reset each time
First things first, install SSK dynamic proxy CAB, Nopushinternet CAB, and AT&T tilt2 speed fix.
My first month of owning TP2 I felt very similar, having to reset every couple days. Now my phone only gets reset when I remove the battery or run out of battery (its been on for about 2 weeks now). CleanRAM is a great utility, but I suggest purchasing SSK Tools for its other great programs (autoclean, registry editor, task manager, program manager...basically this thing is great for tweaking your phone.
I would suggest reading around on the forums, looking at all the stickies, and searching for other users who have the same issues as you. This phone is a great phone, but like you have come to realize, it really needs to be tweaked for its full potential to be released.
Thanks for the suggestions!
ATT just confirm that my phone qualify for a replacement. Mine have a small square white sticker in the battery compartment. This seems to be the key of identify units with problems. I got the feeling that the next new unit is going to suffer the same problems.
I'm willing to work it out and tweak my tilt 2.
Only for a minute I consider to go for the BB bold 9700 but it's not even close.
Definately this forum was key when deciding to upgrade to my tilt 2.
Keep up the good work!

All phones have the white sticker. It is how AT&T makes sure your phone has not been water damaged. It turns pink when exposed to water. You most likely aren't experiencing an issue that is specific to your phone.
All Tilt2s are horribly slow and people here just don't want to admit it. It is using the SAME processor as your original tilt, just only clocked at 528MHz instead of 400MHz but it has to drive a much higher resolution screen. Also, either WM6.5 or HTCs implementation of it on the Tilt2 is crap. It wastes memory like no other. I haven't used other WM6.5 phones so I don't know which it is.
I really like my Tilt2's appearance and absolutely love its keyboard but I hate the hardware in it. The crappyness of the OS (either due to 6.5 itself or HTCs implementation) does not help either.
I actually just found a REALLY good deal on a Telus Motorola Milestone on eBay, just $475 after Bing Cashback! I ordered it and can't wait to get it! It has a worse keyboard but its processor is a bit better and Android has surpassed WM.

That Motorola looks good!
Well, after your recomendations and some extra browsing around here, I decided to hard reset my Tilt 2 again and start from scratch. I have installed all the recommend software and only have one freeze up today while updating the Stocks.
Ram usage is at 55-60% most of the times.
I have also decided not to exchange my phone again, ATT was offering a refurbished unit and mine is new.
I'll stick with for now with the Win 6.5 Rom, maybe there's an update or patch coming up.
I have develop extra patience since using my Acer Aspire One with Intel Atom processor, this thing also get really slow at times...

[Q] Getting rid of my dINC, should i get an X or a Fascinate

I've had nothing but bad experiences with every HTC phone i've ever had. From the Touch Pro, to the TP2, to the incredible.
I sent my old INC in and got a new one because it would boot loop for no apparant reason, the only thing i could think of is the 2150maH battery but tried with the stock battery and same thing.
So the first replacement phone i never received because somehow fedex got the shipping address fine, except the wrong city and zip code and they said verizon would have to call and have it changed, which they did, but it never got delivered and returned to sender. so they sent me a 2nd replacement. I got that one. Activated it yesterday morning, and not 4 hours into it, its boot looping again. I've had to factory reset 3 times and activate it twice (not counting the initial activation)
ugh
User error? Ive had all 3, the dinc is the best overall. did you root it and install custom roms?
Refurb?
Was the replacement (or original) DInc refurbished? I've heard nothing good about refurbs.
Are you using an SD card from another device in the DInc? An old SD card?
Is the SD card full or nearly so?
Rooting w/ UnrEVOked?
The 2 DInc's in our family have none of the issues you listed, we have one each of the AMOLED and SLCD. Both have been extensively modified - ROMs, kernels, PRL's, etc etc. Both run the 2150 battery from VZW. Is your 2150 from elsewhere?
Subjective Opinion:
FWIW, the DX is severely limited in what can be modified since it's not fully rooted. Compared to the DInc, essentially all you can really do on the DX is theme variants of the stock ROM. Then there is the small, and seemingly dis-interested group of devs. There just aren't as many devs because there is so little you can actually truly develop for the device.
IDK anything about the Samsung, but a quick look @ the Fascinate forum here on XDA..... the number of ROMs or mods isn't anywhere near what there are for the DInc.
To be fair, the DInc community has the benefit of time and has a strong bench of interested developers, but browsing the Fascinate forum doesn't look so interesting as the DInc forum.
So, it really depends on what you want to do w/ your device - if you want to be able to modify it six ways from Sunday, it's the DInc, no question.
DX, not so much.
Fascinate - meh.
that's my $0.02
I had both the TP1 & TP2, used mightymike (from ppcgeeks) roms on both of them and the phones were amazing. The Inc is the best phone I have ever owned. I too am going to have to go with user error.
Are you stock or rooted? If you are rooted what have you installed? What kernel are you using? What type of screen is the refurb?
If you don't care to try and fix it, and you must have a different phone now, I would go with the Samsung. The DX is horrible, screen looks like crap, not fully rooted, etc... The Samsung is a bit better, but I don't think it is anywhere near as good as the Inc.
Verizon has a batch of crap Incs that they got back in as warranty phones and instead of actually fixing the problem (bootloop) they factory reset the damn things and set them back out broken. Its just a big cycle, it took me 3 Incs in a week to get one that actually worked. They offered the X and honestly I probably would've taken that over the Fascinate, neither phone has the developer support that the Inc has, and at least the X will be supported by the manufacture.
Wait a couple weeks and get the Thunderbolt. Just don't mess up your phone again and you won't have to bug Verizon for a replacement.
Agreed
I am on DINC 3 myself. The 'bad batch' would be the first batch of DINC's as they shipped with a faulty hardware radio. They would struggle so hard to get a signal, that the phone would superheat, and bootloop. That happened to my DINC 1.
DINC 2 shipped to me with an already blown speaker (I guess running 30 seconds of electronic diagnostics before shipping out a returned phone, doesn't test for that).
I have had DINC 3 since August, and while I think I may have a small power issue, it is fine.
I would not get the X. My wife has the Droid 2 and I just can't stand MotoBlur. Combine that with the relative difficulty of getting a custom ROM on the 2/X (you have to use a few market solutions to force one on), and you may as well pass on Motorola products.
I'll just tell you that I've had nothing but problems with my Droid 1 and 2. I went through 7 (I lost count) before they sent me the Droid 2. I had two replacements for the Droid 2 before they sent me the Incredible. My 3rd incredible is on the way tomorrow. In general I've had terrible luck with refurbs. The quality control is non existent. But if I had to give you advise on the X over the Samsung I would go with Samsung. Knowing how many problems I've had with Motorola phones I'd hesitate to ever own one again.
I got a refurb in November. AMOLED and works perfectly. My fault I needed to get it replaced, too.

I hope I have your luck then. I don't care about the whole AMOLED vs LED deal. I just want a freakin phone that works correctly.
At first the fascinate was an okay phone and slow on developement and me being use to my d1 development amount got frustrated by the lack of it. Now however, I have to say with froyo being here and other ROMs at around 80% done with more on their way I'm beginning to love this phone like I should have in the first place. You honestly can't beat the internals on this phone right now with anything on the market and I highly recommended it over the DX due to the locked bootloader (and let's not even get into the screen/camera differences)
As always remember that any kind of post on here (including mine) is subject to bias and you should really just get the one that suits your needs best if you really want to even leave the dinc. Just my 2cents.

if you constantly like to flash things, i would not recommend either, but just stick with the incredible and wait for something else.
I would wait as well. I've not had a lot of confidence in moto phones since my pos Moto Q (which I stall have and works if anyone wants to buy that junk lol). I've also seen the fascinate from a coworker, and while the screen looks nice, the rest doesn't seem to impress me.
Get yourself a free flip, cancel the data plan and wait a month or 3, take the money you saved from no data plan and get some newer nicer phone than all the rest of us on aa 1 year contract. Or get another Dinc, find someone on CL or something that wants to trade you for a samsung and a couple of bucks and swap or something.
A buddy of mine hates his Droid x. Don't know anything about the others
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Don't get either.
X sucks
Fascinate sucks and buggy and not well supported. Get the thunderbolt or wait for the LG or MOTO dual core phones. There might even be a dInc 2 coming soon.

The first one I did, but it happened while stock as well as rooted, with any kernel/rom combination i tried.
the refurb i got was jewed out of the box. I highly doubt its user error as I didnt even do anything outside of activate it and add my google account before it started

See above, but there is absolutely zero way this is a user error and so many people are having problems. there is literally a 20 page topic on the VZW forums of people having this issue who are on their 7th and 8th dINCs

[Q] gmail sync w/ Revolution 2.2

I know this is a rom specific post but I do not have the 10 posts needed to put it in the correct forum.
I cannot sync my gmail contacts from my phone to my account. They will sync down from gmail to the phone but not up. I have read other posts regarding this matter and the solution was to choose "gmail contact". Well, in Revolution 2.2/2.3 there is no such choice. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?
Gratuitous post but I need to get my 10 so I can put this question in its place.
When you hit add new contact, you don't get a choice of
[email protected]
google
or
Phone only, unsynced
You can also do this manually if you have a lot of unsynced contacts. press menu when in the contacts app and export all your contacts to your SD card, then hook up your USB cable and move the file to your PC, you can use GMAIL on your PC to import your whole phonebook. If you have a couple numbers not synced the way described by g00s3y is the best but if you have a large amount of unsynced contacts it can be tedious and this way may be faster.
Feeling stupid now. It's only day 9 or 10 with this phone. I had been addicted to the iphone for the past 3.5 years and rehab has been a bit awkward.
Yes, there is a xxxx.gmail option that I was unaware of.
Because...........
Got tired of the iphone and att (less bars in more places). Hell I jailbroke it the first week I had it but because apple kept it so locked down modifying it became a chore. Got the dinc for free switching to verizon. I have to admit that I spent the first day disappointed with it. Rooted it on day 3 and haven't looked back since. Sure its only been a week and a half and I have turned it into a paper weight several times but I always learn at least 3 or 4 new things a day about the phone. I have come to love the droid and realize the possibilities right now are endless.
Now if I can find a working Gingerbread keyboard with spell check I will be all set. Hardest part is re-teaching myself to switch #'s / letters with my right hand. I see that gingerbread has put it on the left.
Thank you for putting up with my stupidity!
Flash incredibly re-engineered. It has gingerbread keyboard with predictive text.

[Q] Different revisions of SPH-D710?

My brother bought his e4gt a couple months before I decided to pick mine up, and I felt almost immediately that he was getting more out of his phone than I was. I decided to run some head to head Speedtest.net runs. His phone is completely stock, and I have rooted mine but done little else to it. We're both on sprint.
In the WiFi test, I might have had a slight advantage on download speeds, but not a huge difference. 3G was also very close. 4G was a different story. His phone performed significantly better. The most interesting part was that his my phone seemed to struggle with both phones were side by side doing the 4G test, but still didn't perform as well when only one phone was tested at a time.
Looking over the phones the only difference I see is that his is marked. "11.09" under the batter compartment where mine is marked "11.11" and that his phone's batter was finished in Korea where mine was finished in China.
Does anyone know if there are actual changes between the revs of these phones, or did I just get the lower quality Chinese build? I know that people are getting lots of different results trying out different modems, has anyone correlated these results to the revision of the phone?
And finally, any tips on anything I can do to make sure it's not a settings issue on my phone? I've updated profiles and PRLs, anything else I should consider?
Lots of questions here, but thanks to anyone who can help answer them...
