Has anyone actually gotten this to work? I don't seem to be getting any push notifications at all but when I log into the app all my messages are there waiting... really messing up my pimp game
I'm trying this right now.
In particular, I can see that enabling this battery saving (Trillian's way to enable C2DM as per their release notes), I get kicked out with session invalid error when phone goes screen off for sometime, then I fire it on again.
Can trillian also replace the stock messaging app for texts or is it just for IMing with AIM, FB, messenger, etc... ?

It's just for instant messaging.
At least, it was the last time I tried it (latest beta).
Nowadays I'm not buying a c2dm-wannabe app if not after many users report it to work. 15 minutes evaluation is too short.

Anyone getting a parser error when trying toget an update on their notifications? ....I'm using regular facebook I believe...not the one from htc.

YES! And it's driving me crazy. My notifications page hasn't been able to refresh for a week now - just giving me an error stating it's unable to retrieve data, etc. I get a similar error message whenever I scroll down the news feed awhile. I am a newbie, but I have been reading up and it seems that Facebook for Android is just utter CRAP. I use Facebook a lot and am very disappointed with paying $400 for a phone and not being able to do something that was SO EASY on my iPhone. I use the browser sometimes for Facebook, but what a pain! I still don't get alert notifications - I get my Gmail alerts first! ACK!
Search Facebook in the Android Market and install.. it should let you. Fixed my friends phone last night with the same issue a few days after he bought it new.
Just make sure you hit refresh because the app will still be open, so afte rinstall or before install, kill it and then go back.
Why is it BB apps update instantly and Android ones don't?
Examples
Facebook notifications aren't instant. You have to refresh to see em.
Emails, same thing or it you can set it up to check every 15 min.
BB if someone emails me, I get it as soon as it's sent. Same for facebook.
Are their apps or ways to change this?

I use Gmail and it is instant push notification. I don't have to sync anything. I use exchange for my work email which is also push notification and it is instant without any syncing required.
As far as FB goes, I have mine set to notify me through my gmail account and as soon as I receive a comment I get an email instantly.
I also came from a BB and personally will never go back. Good luck
I found the BB market not very useful..but I did have a VZ curve without wifi.
I had issues with syncing working well with task killing..
Once you upgrade to android 2.2 get rid of advanced task killer and automatic task killer..
I've had no issues with syncing since..

Ohh yeah and another thing that I hated about my BB, the thing had virtually no memory on it and I had to constantly deal with a memory leak issue that was basically a known factor with BB's.
I was constantly cleaning and clearing cache on a daily if not 2-3 times a day basis.
My Dinc has never had any issues with this and in fact has plenty of memory to go around.
The only other problem i could complain about on my Dinc is the battery issues but I have been using the Seidio 1750 battery, and have rooted the phone and am running SetCPU and also turned off "Background data always on" and my battery life is awesome now!
Is there really no way to use gmail chat on WP7?
I've tried going straight to the website but that's inconvenient and that messenger by miyowaka is not good unless I have friends on windows live.
Anyway to do this? Any app in the works?
Would be grateful with any info as my workplace just banned gchat.
Even I am looking for a chat software to make my WP7 running to my use. In the mobile OS war, the key thing now is about Social network integration. Facebook is integrated well. However Twitter, gtalk, facebook chat all are missing. Moreover even facebook and twitter notifications are not there. Do we ever get a chat feature in WP7 ? There are lot of Questions on mind than the UI as its the only thing which attracts me.
So, any update on this anyone?
There are 2 Gtalk apps for WP7:
- Flory Messenger (free)
- Jabber Talk (not free)
I prefer Flory because is free and has support for Facebook chat too.
talk google
Flory turned me off right away due to a sign up process. It seemed required almost though due to the way they do XMPP.
I used JabberTalk once or twice but it's very simplistic and after logging in I got a "You might be haxed here's the IP!" alert from Google that may or may not be related. It may be that they have to use a XMPP gateway of sorts so you're not without this middleman which would explain the behavior I saw. It's also possible that this was entirely coincidental and just happened to happen in the exact week I used it.
The likely course of action is if no one will, I'll go for a clone of the unofficial official MSN app (Messenger by Miyowa). The way this handles MSN is almost flawless from a chat app goes but I may give Flory a try if it's closer to a 1:1.
im used to palringo on my htc touch pro 2 and im hoping they bring that over to wp7, it had a option to leave u logged into aim, yahoo, msn, facebook chat, and a few other services as soon as u turned the phone on and it ran in the background and gave u notifications whenever a new message had arrived
is there anything close to this or any good messenger applications in the windows marketplace that you guys have tried out? anything for facebook chat?
how do the messenger apps work on wp7? are they leaving u logged in and notifying u when u receive new messages or when u exit the messenger app it signs u out and closes whatever messenger service you're using since multitasking would be required for this??
I think there is no all in one messenger app,it is all separated.
MSN- messenger by miyowa
facebook chat and google talk- you can try (flory)
hope this help...cheers
It looks like there won't be an official Microsoft Messenger client.
Microsoft apparently asked Miyowa to write one on their behalf
http://blog.miyowa.com/
I expect in the future, there will be a good multi-protocol client like I had in IM+ on the iPhone.

This statement has been made invalid like a thousand times already. In an interview at CES someone at Microsoft said they had plans for a client but just not right now (pocketnow has the interview somewhere).
If Miyowa was working on behalf of Microsoft like they claim, they wouldn't have their name in the app title (e.g. the facebook app), not to mention it wouldn't be that crap.

how do the messenger apps work on wp7 do they run in the background or do they close out when u leave the app?

It closes when you leave the app. For certain applications, a remote server will keep your connection to the service alive and send any received messages to you via push notifications. Same as on iOS pretty much.
IM+ will be the best when it comes out.

Answer to your question is there is no good IM app for WP7. It's an area that's sorely lacking unfortunately.
ive read there was recently a update with flory im is anyone using that how is it? how is it for receiving messages when you're outside of the application? do you still receive messages when u leave the app with this new update?
Yes, it remains active in background. Just check Stay logged and Run under lockscreen in settings. You will receive notifications just like messaging.

Nothing beats Windows Live for Windows Mobile on that OS. Loved it, especially the Push Email for Hotmail...
And integrated presence status in contacts app.
Windows Live really was a thing of beauty. Felt just like Windows Live on my pc.
It would be really nice if Microsoft would do one just like that. The only problem for me is all my friends are on Whatsapp now. I keep trying to get them to go over to an msn messenger client (3 friends - blackberry, iphone 4, G2 lol) especially since msn messenger adds a PC client which is big for me, which whatsapp does not have.
But seems so few people use msn messenger for pc in my circle anymore. Facebook and BB killed it.

Try Fim Facebook Chat.
FWIW, there's some information going round that Windows Live Messenger will be integrated into the People hub.

WhatsApp is cute and all, but it halved my battery life on my Vibrant so I made them remove my number from their database and haven't looked back since... It's a good solution though, using phone numbers and all... I also like how they allow you to set the App to give clean pop-up notifications similar to iOS (I prefer that and Toast Notification types to Android's "scroll text in the notification bar" bull****).
It's also been having some performance issues, and issues with message delivery speeds lately. Seems like when these startups get enough customers, they stop caring as much...
The main issue for me in Windows Live for Windows Mobile was that it was never updated to support Yahoo!<->Windows Live interoperability, nevermind Facebook. This means half of my buddies could see me online, but I could never chat with them...
Since day 1 there have been occasional problems with my Hangouts messaging (not SMS enabled)...sometimes it takes 7-10 minutes before a message comes through. Its weird because its not all the time...maybe every few days or so. My wife is even getting mad at me because she thinks I'm ignoring her. I flashed a new ROM hoping the problem would go away, but the problem continues whether stock or non. Only hangouts seems to be affected...everything else with the phone seems fine. I am about to start looking at 3rd party apps, but I prefer to stick with google since it integrates well into gmail and keeps chat history tied to google acct. Anyone else having this problem? It took me a while before I even noticed it was a problem tho...mostly thanks to the wife.
I don't use Hangouts, so I'm not sure of it's a common issue. That being said, have you tried the stock Messages app? It works flawlessly for me...
Sent from my SM-N900T
Use hangouts a ton with both family and business both on my phone and in chrome browsers on desktops. No real lag except when I am using the browser and then move to the phone, but as soon as it sees me using the phone it is the same. Don't use it for SMS.
Forgot to mention this only started happening with my Gnote3. I have been using Hangouts exclusively for a long time and ALWAYS worked flawlessly with my other Androids. I've never seen a problem until I bought the Gnote3.
I tried using that but the lag was unbearable.

I am suffering from the same issues & I don't want to use a separate app for sms. I live having it all in one app. Also, I only have this problem on tw roms.

Its just the app man. Nothing you can do, especially in busy rooms its terrible
Hangouts stopped working altogether for me. I had to switch back to Google Voice just to get texts.
Hangouts is goofy, sometimes it won't notify of new messages when they're received, sometimes it doesn't receive them at all and sometimes its delayed. I'll be talking to my girlfriend via hangouts on my PC via a wired connection and sometimes the message will come in on my phone at the same time, 30 seconds later a few minutes later, or not at all until I refresh the conversation.

If I am actively chatting with someone on my PC responses don't show actively on my phone unless I look for them. If I stop responding on the PC, the phone starts to announce new messages. It think this is a feature.

I thought that too, but it seems to do it whenever it likes. Prime example: I've been chatting with my girlfriend on my phone and the screen is off, I have gmail open in Chrome but it's not the active tab. She sends me a message and both my phone and my pc notify me of a new message at the same time.
