[Q] 4G Radio Cannot Connect... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I've been using 4G on my Epic and Evo's for quite some time now, and recently I rooted my phone using unrevoked 3.21.
After that, I can no longer successfully connect with the 4G network. It just says "scanning", and nothing ever happens.
Do I need to do a hard reset of my phone, or is there an easy fix? I tried searching this board, and the internet, and cannot find anything else out!
Thanks!

UPDATE:
I unrooted the phone, re-rooted, and with the stock ROM I am able to get 4G service, but not on a single ROM after that, will it work.
Any ideas?

Just one last cry for help...
No 4G service except on stock rom.

Cyanogen - 3G Internet Down?

Hi guys.
I had my first Evo stolen a few days ago and just got the replacement yesterday. I was able to root using Simpleroot, and setup recovery. In order to get the phone operational on Sprint, I had to type in ##494711# and enter my phone number and change another setting in that same menu. The internet (3g) works on a "stock" rom I downloaded, however it does not work on Cyanogen 7/22 build.
Wifi and everything else runs perfect, no problems besides this. Anyone know a way to fix this? I tried to search the thread but couldn't find anything.
Try re flashing the ROM i got the same rom and my 3G works perfect make sure you flash the new radio and not just the rom you need the rom plus frf91
2.05.00.06.10 is the radio you need. Your software should be 1.47.651.1 also.

[Q] WiMax Not Working After Stock ROM Applied

I did the OTA root of my phone earlier this week and applied the Fresh ROM and the WiMax Radio Update. After that my WiMax stopped working. I get "Connected to Sprint" , "Disconnected" , back to Scanning. I did notice that my WiMax MAC was not correct and followed the steps using the adb commands to correct it. This still did not solve the WiMax connection issues.
I spent a good amount of time yesterday trying to "unroot" the phone and go back to stock. The RUU methods weren't working because of bootloader version issues. I finally found some advice here to to use Toasts Step 2 Method to downgrade the bootloader. This worked and I was able to then apply the Stock ROM using the RUU File RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253
After getting back to stock I allowed all the OTA updates to apply. I'm still having the same WiMax 4G issue. The WiMax radio turns on, goes to scanning, connecting, disconnected, scanning.
I called Sprint last night and they had me do a ##786# reset with my MSL code, PRL Update, Profile Updates, etc. They also tried having CC remove the 4G services and re-provision. I'm still stuck with out the ability to connect to WiMax.
Before I return the phone ... anyone else have any suggestions I should try?
Appreciate the help.

I am having the same exact problem, i was told its something deeper than just the MAC address problem, i would just get a warranty replacement or exchange your phone since youre within the 30 days.
I just installed Netarchy's Stock 2.2 with Root, then applied the radio updates he listed, doing WiMax last. My 4G just says "scanning" when I turn it on, and never actually connects. I am hoping the tower near me is just down at the moment, but I am doubtful.
After I check in a couple of areas if 4G is still not working, I will try reseting the phone and root it again, running the 2.2 w/root, without installing radio updates.
Other then my WiMax getting flushed, Froyo ROCKS. Battery is lasting much longer, better features, etc.
I updated my radios with:
Radio update: 2.15.00.07.28
and
Wimax Update 26023
This is all you have to do:

Only thing that worked for me, do this step, then install the ROM you had before. Like I said, only thing that works!

I tried this ... started over all the way back to original RUU. Still no 4G. I took my phone to the Sprint Store today, left it for a tech to look at.
has anyone else heard of certificate issues that are used in WiMax authentication? I wonder if those certs were damaged by the radio updates. You'd think going back to stock RUU would repair that.
Maybe the stock RUU doesn't actually update the radio device?
If you have the latest radio and 4g is not working you need to flash the Rom again, just the Rom as the radio is already update.
Ps: remember do a titanium and or nandroid back up b4 flashing, good luck.

Flashed the ROM multiple times, still no luck.
ok have you tried a different rom? Just flash a different rom and test the wifi to see if you have the same issue. If it works then you know your issue was with the rom...

In my case flashing back to 2.1 stock, 4G worked again, no problem. But I want the 2.2... The thread for Netarchy's 2.2 stock rom with root has a few people having the same issue, but for most people it looks like the rom is working without WiMax issues.

Your 4g certificate keys got messed up. There is no known solution other than a replacement. I've been to Sprint, I've been online with HTC. There is no solution. Doesn't feel like there will ever be one.

thanks ill go in tommorow for replacement....jeez i'm at my wits end. going to try one more factory reset-root-flash....then im throwing it at the wall.
I am having the same issue with several roms. I just keep going back to the 2.1 when it fails. I have tried every update for the radio I can find, I am going to try again with some new radio zips, but so far 4g is just not working on any 2.2 rom that I try.

PLEASE help me fix my half bricked EVO!

Background:
I rooted my phone back in August using the method described in this video (http://androidandme.com/2010/07/phones/intro-to-rooting-your-sprint-htc-evo-4g-video/) I've flashed numerous ROMs to my phone without much issue. However I recently flashed the latest Fresh ROM and have no data connection. I know its not the ROM itself because I nandroid restored back to 3 different ROMs and still cannot connect.
I upgraded and downgraded my PRI and Radio to various versions but still no luck. So next I called Sprint and asked them to reactivate my phone thinking that it would reset the connection and fix my issue. They asked me to type in ##(somenumbers)## which rebooted my phone and brought me to the hands-free activation screen. Not only did this not work, but I fully lost all connectivity. Previously I had a 3G logo that wasn't lit up, but my phone was able to download "some" data at very slow speeds. Now no 3G logo and no connection.. (idk why I called sprint?!?)
I figure loosing root and installing the latest OTA should fix my problem. So I initially tried the method described in the forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743192), and got stuck at a black screen with an HTC logo. My HBOOT number changed to 0.93.0000 but im still rooted.
Next I downloaded the latest ota through my phone via wifi, but the install process fails about half way through. So now I'm thinking that if I downloaded the latest unrooted ota to my PC and flashed to the ROM I could lose root that way.
Solution?:
What are your thoughts? Do you think going back to stock unrooted android will fix my issue?
I truly appreciate ANY help you can give me. I'm completely "lost" without a working phone!
THANKS!!!

Do this first, update your PRL and Profile, always do this when you update the radio.
Then if that does not work, proceed with the steps below.
Do the nandroid restore, I would hope you are using ARMON RA b/c it backs up your WIMAX(wimax.img). Get you phone working again then focus on the the
radio(s).

Issues connecting to 4g/Wimax

I partially solved my issue in another thread, but still cannot connect to 4g. I had initially thought my RSA key was gone, but was able to find it in an old nandroid and reflash it. KeyChecker now says my Key is Ok. I verified my MAC address is correct and have flashed the most recent wimax radio. I have also updated my profile and prl. However, I still cannot connect to 4G. I was in Minneapolis in a strong 4g area and turned on the 4g. It turns on, scans, says connecting to sprint, and then quickly returns back to scanning, finds sprint, tries to connect, then scans again. I tried this is multiple spots all over the city but still couldn't connect. I am running Fresh 3.5 with the stock kernel and have connected to 4g in the past prior to temporarily losing my keys. I have flashed different sense and aosp roms with the same result. Someone please help! I am stuck! I would like avoid unrooting if at all possible, but will if that is a last resort.
I would call Sprint tech support and see if they could do anything from their end. You can try changing kernels or flashing a rooted stock rom to see if the problem gets corrected. For a rooted stock rom, download this and flash from recovery after doing a full wipe. Make a nandroid backup of your current setup first.

OK, Sprint was no help. As of now, my wimax key is intact and Mac address correct. If I am on Fresh rom 3.5 and turn on 4g in a solid 4g area, it turns on, scans, finds Sprint, then disconnects, over and over, never really connecting. Any other Rom I have tried, both sense and aosp, 4g won't even turn on, it just gets stuck at "turning on". I have also tried different kernels. I don't know what else to do. I upgraded my radios and profiles, would downgrading do anything?

I'm experiencing the same problem as you. Every since yesterday afternoon, I can't connect to 4G. It scans...connecting to Sprint.....scanning..etc. I never lost my keys though.

Same exact thing here. Took me hours to figure it out but here's what I did..total pain in the arse! I basically updated radios in succession. I loaded an old Sprintlovers PC36IMG.zip that had all the old radios (pri 1.77). After that I updated radios again, pri 1.90. Loaded up my Dark EVO 2.2 ROM, made sure 4G was working. Then while in recovery I flashed Caulkins .zip with all of the newest radios, loaded CM7, loaded GAPPS and BAM...everything is working great....total pain and probably a lot of unnecessary steps, but it worked!
As an update, I ran wimax_ mtd in terminal and it ran through fine, everything passed and was OK, except next to "check firmware file" it says not match and next to "verify app fireware key" it says not match. Any ideas what that means?? Can you give me exact details with file links to how you fixed yours?

Help, Trouble with Rooted, Flashed to Cricket Epic 4g touch

Well I had a coworker of mine tried to root my flashed Epic 4g Touch. Needless to say he didn't really know what he was doing, at least on not on my phone(he flashed his galaxy Nexus). So my boot animation isn't showing, and i'm getting a yellow triangle upon booting up. Not only that , but my wifi is not working as well. and i'm getting a few service issues.
Is there a way to un-root my phone. I just want it back to stock, it was fine the way it was. He said when the official ics update comes out I can just update my phone and that would automatically unroot it. He says since he's never rooted/unrooted a flashed cricket phone, that when you unroot it back to stock I might have to reflash it to cricket. Is this correct? this would suck terribly as I don't really want to pay again to have it done.
PLz Help
I need this fixed, I NEED wifi. and want my phone back to normal
