Quick Question. Now i know on paper the vibrant and the g2 are better than the slide performance wise but can anyone actually prove it? All three devices have 512 mbs of ram and i know the other two devices have faster processers but i doubt vibrant and g2 users keep their phones oc'd to 1ghz anyways and i know our phone can oc to about 800mhz so honestly are those phones THAT much faster than our slide? I know from experience that paper specs don't mean much. Just Look at The HTC Dream and all its done. And that phone only has 192 mbs of ram and its processor is completely horrible, but it can run live wallpapers and Froyo completely fine. Thanks.

Honestly I do not think that the slide can hang with those phones. The only way it may be able to is if those phones stay unrooted and the Slide gets rooted and overclocked to the highest overclock setting possible.

He means "unrooted" as in "leave them stock".
The thing though, that makes the Slide competitive is the 320*480 display - if it had a 480*800 display like the Vibrant or G2, there's no way it would be able to compete with either device, maybe if it were overclocked to 2ghz.
i have rooted and OCed my phone to 844 MHz stable. No complaints from me. The phone runs as smooth as butter.
Honestly, for real world applications and day to day use, you would never notice the difference in power. The slide is almost without fault, as far as i'm concerned. And it's capable of running with the big boys.

How's battery life @ 844?
It is a nice handset after root and oc (slide) and I personally can clock to 864 MHz and the battery was draining a bit fast but after smartass kernel its perfectly fine. But I do doubt that it could "run with the big boys". Glacier "mytouch 4g", optimus2 or g2x, nexus s. Not only are these phones better on paper they're better all around. And sexier.

Okay, so I was thinking about getting the EVO shift because I miss my rant but I refuse to get an Epic. Also, I realize I don't use the FFC or the kickstand. I love the camera and idk whether the evo shift has a worse or better one. I also want a faster device with better battery because no matter how hard I try I can't get good battery on the evo. I can't seem to get used to the size in my pocket but it would be cool if I had a leather case.
Anyway I just would like some insight on which is the better choice for me. I'm confused at how shift is faster w/less ram?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well the shift has a second generation snapdragon processor. It's more efficient. That's why its faster. Well if you like a slide out key board the shift will be perfect for you.
The EVO you wish you had
Well to your first question, the shift was a worse camera, 5MP compared tot he regular 8MP. The shift IS the evo...just a smaller screen, lesser camera, and an actual keyboard.
On the Evo i can go all day without charging, running CM7 with a savaged zen kernel.
I just don't wanna have to get an extended battery to enjoy my phone. It is big enough lol. I'm not sure about the camera but so far things seem like the shift is better for my preference. Do they have root yet?

yes they do, it was rooted on day one
I have a question about the shift as well, firstly doesnt the shift use a gpl instead of hardware for the graphics? Gpl should be smoother for scrolling if im not mistaken. I am probably going to get one because i am putting my parents on my plan and using my plan and giving my evo to my dad.
Sent from my Evolution
my dad has had the phone for about two weeks and loves it. He has stated many times that he has never been happier. Though that is coming from a samsung moment. As far as root, they have released it, but it is very hard to do unless your good with rooting. My dad's phone doesn't even need the root because his phone is lightning fast and has very good battery life, about two full days on a charge. After all of that still love my evo, and the great developers for the evo. But if you want the keyboard. I would get the Shift, it just makes sense!!
So I am comparing this experience to the one I had with psp. The fatter one had more mods but wasn't as fast. The slim was faster and smaller with better battery. Especially if you used the bigger battery. The evo shift comes with the 1500 but I'll be using the 1800 and my 16gb card. Not crazy about the d pad thing but for having a keyboard its cool. So, any other opinions?

Whats more important, battery life or keyboard?
If its battery life I would try to figure out why your phones doesnt last all day.
If you want a keyboard, the switch is obvious.
Shift is a nice phone I got one for the wife. If you don't mind a smaller screen and you want a keyboard then its the way to go. Honestly though no phone is going to run 12 hours non stop and not kill the battery. The wife seems to make it through the day but if you run it like I run my EVO the battery last about the same. It's advantages are a more efficient processor and a smaller screen that would use less power because its smaller. It does run a solid 60 fps out of the box .

Battery life is more important. I'm looking for 15 hours. Not continuous use but at least moderate. I need to work a whole day and the phone not be dead without having to turn off all the radios.

I don't need 4g, it tends to waste my time and money even when I'm in Chicago to use it. I don't mind using juice to attain 15 hours but for done reason juice only gives me 1.08x.

The shift has 2gb emmc/512mb ram, the evo has 1gb rom/512mb ram. So they have the same amount of ram. The shifts processor is clocked 200mhz less than the evo but because of the architecture, is going to be negligibly faster. You wouldn't notice.
I myself hate wear parts like trackballs, slide mechanisms, hardware keyboards... etc.
slide mechanisms and hardware keyboards, what is this 2004??
i sold my european galaxy s II , took 300 from it and just got this yesterday, because it was my only
option, i could have gone with att's version but no unlimited data.
I then realized you get throttled to edge, which in my area is just as good as no data at all.
So right now im not really sure if i should return it for the att..
I immediately noticed a choppy lagness... not in terms of performance because this phone is a beast. In comparison to the exynos, the hercules gets anhilated.
I immediately noticed just from switching screens on twiz.
The international just felt so much faster and responsive. New screens would appear and close in the blink of an eye.
I am still happy about this phone....
...but I was lagging playing dragon fly??????? What the hell is this..
I still like this phone and I have faith in it and will overclock her.....but whats up with this slowddown guys?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA Premium App
Just as you said, the Exynos is simply the better processor. The Hercules definitely has a certain choppiness at times that isn't present in the AT&T/Sprint/Int. version. Hopefully, overclocking or some additional updates will help out with this though. This is using the same cpu as the Touchpad and that easily overclocks to 1.8-1.9 Ghz. Still very fast as it is though.
Sent from my Galaxy S II using XDA Premium app
yeah still vey fast i completely agree
i understand they did this to achieve the data speeds but it just doesnt feel like a galaxy s II.
Atts screen is too small for my taste i like 4.37-4.5, I have huge hands.
this is basically a rant, but i do look forward to see where development takes us
still baffled about dragon fly.....its not really a demanding game.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA Premium App
Well the processor isn't use to its potential. Once we find out how to utilize both processors. It will be a beast. Also the Adreno 220 gpu is able to be overclocked. It caused screen tearing issues for the sensation I think cause of the qhd display. But I think the galaxy 2 can handle it cause of the wvga.

The problem is getting the cores to work normally. The fartest I seen with the sensation is one core is used as garbage and data collecting. While the other fufills the task.
If anything the game itself is not optimized for the SoC, the same thing happened with CityData on the Sensation 4G when it was released. It was very choppy. Drag Racing on my Vibrant was very choppy and that SoC has a very powerful graphics processor. It was fixed in later releases..
The choppiness is also probably do to optimization not being totally up to snuff. It's still snappy in my opinion. You also have to realize that it's loaded with roughly 15 junk apps, who knows what those are doing in the background.
So far I've had zero troubles, i'm very happy with mine. I can understand if you're coming from the international that you would be upset if you were having a different experience.
I don't worry about the throttling too much because I am using wifi when i'm using the most data. My cap is 5 GB anyway, that's a lot of data.
I am still trying to use touchwiz and am still enjoying my experience. I imagine I will try another launcher in the near future.
I come from a Motorola Defy with CM7, that is the experience that I compare to so you can imagine i'm like a pig in mud. Even Swype seems more accurate on this thing.

Those topic is my exact feeling on this phone. I feel like i paid for a galaxy s 1.5. Still a fast phone, just doesn't quite live up to its name unfortunately
You may also notice that the sound quality isn't up to par either . Bass is almost non existent
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I have an Exhibit 4G and the difference in bass response is very small, like a few dB's on the low end. Semi fixable with Equalizer
i actually prefer the speaker on this phone compared to the international. Louder and clearer

Touchwiz really holds back some of the performance and remember guys they had to switch to this processor to get us the 42mbps speeds....and i think it was worth it the sprint or att versions dont hold a candle to this things data speeds (at least in nyc) my friends att version got 300kbps down on speed test! epic got 6mbps and i got 12mbps once this thing gets OC/UV and a rom without touchwiz its gonna be insane

Man I must have gotten a rare device cause this thing ZOOMS.
I have gone through a Nexus One, Galaxy S, Photon 4G, HTC Sensation, Galaxy S2 Int and this phone and it definitely keeps up with the fastest of the bunch.
I run GoLauncher on my phone and it is beautiful, ADW is a great launcher too.
My data speeds have been decent in San Francisco....16-18Mbps down and 2-3Mbps up. So not blazing really but fastish.
Anywho....I like this device a lot. I don't see it as any better or worse than the Int one except I actually enjoy the form factor of that one more and it runs vanilla. I needed faster data speeds though.

Lol, Evo3D. I had it on release day... Brought it back for Nexus S4g... Got another Evo3D, rooted, rommed...meh. Aside from the giant hardware deficiencies it had, especially compared to et4g, umm, just blah. Synergy rom was the only compelling rom. CM7 still has a long ways to go and the other millions of roms? Pretty much themes. Also, sense? Ugh.
The grass is always greener bro, keep that in mind... But... Be my guest.
Though I will definitely be going the Nexus Prime route. Still debating switching to Verizon or waiting for the Sprint version.
Otherwise just be patient... Things will be fine... Especially once we get a true AOSP base.

Seems like the only benefits of the nexxus are the screen, nfc, and ics, otherwise 1.2 GHz processor (not sure what chip it is), 5mp camera, 1.3mp front, etc.
Seems like it's not as big of an upgrade as most expected. Once we get ics I'll be happy. I dont see myself utilizing the nfc, and the bigger screen isn't worth however much I'd have to pay. I hope Samsung is on top of the ICS update.

The screen (except in fullscreen mode for games that support it and video) will likely be the same size (of active area) or perhaps closer to 4.3" in scale...remember the on-screen buttons. Though the resolution must be stunning.
I heard it was supposed to be the new OMAP platform, but, I don't recall getting any official comfirmation of that.
The FFC I thought was the same 2.0mp that we have. Though the 5mp seems like a downgrade I'll bet that the optics are better. Besides, making the pictures 'bigger' without adding any high-quality detail is pretty pointless.
I don't care much for NFC myself...and the 16:9 aspect ratio I find very irritating...but, remember on-screen buttons...sometimes....
I'm going in for the Official Google Experience, early updates and no horse-**** when it comes to source code (I'm looking at you Samsung with their older-than-release kernel and HTC with their half-of-the-source code). If it is the same as my ET4G plus a little resolution bump minus a couple meaningless megapixels I'm game.
...who knows, it might even support EVDO rev.b that is pointless to worry about. though, if it is an OMAP those are known for their awesome overclockability...
I'm definitely going to get one, but, I'm not going to be a release-day whore like I usually am. This ET4G is a stellar phone as it is and I'm still enjoying it thoroughly.
Go for it, one less person to make threads like this.

If it comes to Sprint, I'm laying down the money for this phone. I love my Epic Touch but I haven't tried a Nexus phone yet and ICS looks amazing, along with the hardware that comes with the Galaxy Nexus.
I'll be getting rid of this phone to go back to my Nexus S and just hold onto it until the Galaxy Nexus comes out for Sprint. (if it does)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yeah man I like flashing roms too.. but it doesnt get much better than starburst rom with lost kernel. My set up runs circles around any phone I have ever owned including the Evo 3d. The screen is bigger on the prime and has better resolution but if you use density changer that really doesnt matter. Other than that it doesnt really have any groundbreaking updates as far as hardware is concerned and sooner or later the software updates will be available on our phones anyway. That being said... I think you should go get the 3d based on the fact that you even had to ask.
So far it seems to be that unless you are an HTC device or a GSM Samsung device or a Verizon Motorola device you are going to be stuck with the proverbial red-headed-stepchild-device so far as development is concerned...Unless you get a Nexus...though there is still a splinter between the carrier models I'll take it. CM7 and MiUi are all I really want as options, everything else is gravy after that...like netarchy kernels.
Perhaps I'm wrong and just paranoid about this becoming the same disaster I saw the Epic turn out to be...a device that wasn't intended to be Android until the last minute (from what I understand). After coming from a long line of HTC devices it's hard not to be paranoid about that. Which is too bad since HTC dropped the ball this round and Samsung is really picking up the slack, finally.
Getting a Nexus device hedges against this...

Dev is a lil slow on the 3D right now especially for AOSP, & for some strange reason every custom kernel that's available for the 3D causes random soft reboots & sleep of deaths (except for AOSP kernels, they been flawless). If you're a Sense user like me, go for it, Warm 2.3 & viperROM are the best Sense ROM's over there IMO, plus the much better specs of the 3D over the EVO are a plus, but if you're strictly a AOSP user, then stay where you are, EVO has much more stable AOSP ROM's at the moment than the 3D does.

Yeah I was looking at the dev on the 3D and it doesn't compare to the OG as of now. I like Sense, but I also love running some AOSP too. I am always nandroid restoring between a sense and the latest ICS build for the OG. Just something about that smooth, snappy feel of pure AOSP that I like lol. Hopefully, the 3D will get an ICS port, if one isn't already available, that is equal to at least what deck is doing for the OG. If that happens, then I will for sure switch so at least I am running AOSP on similar specs to the Galaxy Nexus. Thanks for the input!

Take the 3d . Imo sense is super fast on the 3d . And in a month or two the roms will pick up. My wife has the 4g and its still a beast , but for the long haul the 3d would be better.

evo, then grab a lte based phone in the summer
Had a evo for over a year and my wife still has hers. I recently upgraded to the 3 d model, via legitimate insurance claim.
No comparison. The 3d Is so much smoother, love the clarity of the screen, and the extra ram comes in handy.

I got an evo 4g hw 004. my friend has an evo 3d but she doesnt like it and wants a regular evo 4g. she offered to trade straight up, just switch numbers between the phones. although the evo 3d is superior in specs, what would you do? keep the 4g or go to the 3d?

I have the HTC EVO 4G and if you're okay with the 5MB pictures on the 3D, I'd definitely switch. I belive the 3D has more internal memory and it has the dual core processor as well.
Anyone have both or have used both? I'm debating on which one to get. I can get a used sg2 for 200 or a evo design for 300. If I get the sg2 I'm flashing it to boost. But the design just came out and it's 300

Are you sure the evo design cause thats been out a while the evo lte is the most recent release between the sg2 and evo design definitely the sg2. If you meant the evo 4g lte not sure boost is getting lte service anytime soon thought they were going wimax. Seems a waste to me just my 2 cents.
Evo design is mid tier, like the conquer. Gs2 hands down.
Evo design is single core, but it does GSM for outside the US. GS2 is a damn speed demon (I've owned one) and it's as fast as the newer quad core phones. It will chew up and spit out anything you throw at it. Not to mention it has an amazing camera.
My girl friend has the evo design don't get that phone.

Evo Design is even worse than the Evo3D! Don't do it. You're saving a few bucks going with the GS2 and a few headaches too..

Evo Design is a new 4g wimax phone for Boost. Epic Touch(GS2) is by far the better phone. I have mine flashed to boost and it works great!

My wife has the design, and it's a decent phone-IF, you don't want to do a whole lot to it as there's not much of a community supporting it. Plus with the gs2 being $100 less, shoot it's a no-brainer!

Yeah true. I'm planning on getting it flashed to boost. I have the Samsung transform ultra now and a epic 4g.

S2 wins no doubt.
I've had both. I had the Evo Design for 3 weeks and decided to add another line for my daughter. Guess who got the Design and who got the SG2? Give you a hint....my daughter was pis** ed
I currently have both of these phones. Don't ask why, I just do. I got the Evo Design because it was free at the time when I started my contract and I didn't know a lot about phones at the time. The Evo is a good phone for a lower level device, it has a pretty nice and bright screen and I like HTC sense interface better than touchwizz. HOWEVER, I am a recruiter so I do alot of work on my phone on the go. The design could not keep up with the speed I needed as well as the screen size was crippling, but the touch excels in both of those categories by far. I got tired of the small screen and the lagginess of the evo, it felt outdated the second I got it so after two months I went to the sprint store looking for something better. I asked the guy what the best phone he had was and he took me straight to the epic 4g touch. I played with it and fell in love. The screen is huge compared to the design and the dual core processor makes it stupid fast compared to the design. The camera is better, the screen is bigger and more sharp, more applications are supported on it, the battery lasts longer and there is SO MUCH MORE developer support for the epic 4g touch as well. I don't think the design even has it's own section here. Hands down between the two mentioned, the epic 4g touch is a WAY better option for the money. If there are any other questions, feel free to ask.

I've been trying for so long to find reliable info on how to root the evo design, and can't come up with anything!

I gave up, I saw that the HERO S is basically the same phone, but all of the threads I found on rooting were sketchy and complicated. Nothing like the "oneclicks" over here. My design stays off in a drawer unused. I use it every once in a while for giggles but that only lasts a few minutes until I have withdraws and start twitching for my touch.
Yeah, same story here...plus I don't understand sense for the life of me-locked bootloaders? S-off? It's all too confusing.

Hands down sg2. I'm not a fan of touchwiz, but this has been the best phone I've ever had. I'm currently debating between the evo lte and the sg3.
