Hey everyone,
Well, I am a ReBoot fanatic, so stage 1 of creating some ReBoot stuff for my G1 is complete. I took the YTV robot who was de-logo'd in the international versions, and compiled the frames to create a funny looking splash screen.
To flash:
1) Enter recovery. Select fastboot mode.
2) Place the rgb565 file in the Tools directory of the SDK
3) Open a command prompt to the tools directory, and type "fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565"
Enjoy!

I actually have one of the logo, but yeah... it's right now 3.32 megs... having a hard time reducing it. It's stretched too, but still cool. Gonna run off a few more, see how they work out. Sorry, don't have a GIF tool on hand to animate for preview.
Thanks!
I have a MT3G so space isn't as much of an issue....flashing now!
Awesome
Okay I love it!
Free Angry Birds and a Reboot bootani...what a great way to start the weekend.
I look forward to more

This is updated with the lastest tool. (Windows)
I included a zip with all files you may need at the bottom of the post.
1. Turn off your phone
2. Turn on the phone into bootloader (camera+power).
Make sure it say fastboot in the middle if not hit back and it should appear-
3. Make sure your device is found in device manger
If you don't see adb device up top in device manger find the yellow mark devices
Right Click, update driver, and point to the location of the USB Driver
(http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip)
4. Open and extract the below zip to your desktop
You should now have a custom and fastboot folder on your desktop
5. Open up a dos window (start>run>CMD)
6. Type cd desktop then cd fastboot
7. If you would not like to flash the sample images skip to step 9
8. copy and paste the command line by line
fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot flash splash2 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot reboot
Part 2 Making your own images
9. Open up the "create" folder
10. Run CreateG1Splash.exe
11. Open up your image in the program and click convert
12. Goto the folder of your images and their you will find mysplash.rgb565
13. Place the mysplash.rgb565 into the fastboot folder
14. copy and paste the command line by line
fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot flash splash2 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot reboot

To the OP, you can grab that file from the SDK tools folder and include it in the zip.
Ok, so I downloaded this: http://graha.ms/androidproxy/AdbWin.zip
I put those 2 files in the fastboot folder and it worked! Thank you aron4588!!!
And here is a mirror to your file with those two files added: http://www.4shared.com/file/78814404/36e59544/Boot_images.html
Success
I was able to do it, but quick question.
How many splash images can I have?
I was able to flash 2 over and it boots the first one (splash1) and then the second one (splash2)
How far can I go with this?

That one's slick man. That's what I just flashed to.
Sorry. Double post.
hey thank you soo much. I was waiting for an easier way of adding boot image...i just flashed mine and it worked perfectly. This only replaces the G1 boot image. anyone tried 3 and 4?
btw, i attached my boot screen if anyone wants to use it. I didnt put any signature or watermarks so other people can use it too.
stuck at last step..
Hi,
I've been waiting for this tutorial for a while since its very friendly to use and thank you for all the posts to help out further with extra files too.
however i after i enter "fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565" in cmd i get "< waiting for device > and it stays there forever.. i tried restarting and doing it again and the same result...
does anyone know what i'm doing wrong? is this a memory problem?

EDITED: got it to work after updating driver . great tutorial for complicated process for newbs

there is no original splash2. splash2 isn't used on the G1s (until you flash something to splash2 yourself). The splash sequence is
splash1 (The G1 screen)
splash2 (doesn't get displayed until/unless you flash something there yourself)
animated android screen
Thanks for clearing that up Expert i was looking in the sdk where do you find the splash file at

My guess would be framework-res.apk. but I may be wrong
anyone got the factory images in case anyone wants to revert back?
Hey all,
Just made a splash image that I think you guys might appreciate. My friend showed me the picture and I decided to do the necessary changes to make it into a splash.
For your viewing pleasure
To flash: Download the zip then with an unlocked (S-OFF) bootloader, flash the new_splash.img file to your phone:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash splash1 new_splash.img
fastboot reboot
i would rather have it as a background
my boot image shows 1 micro second. not worth even thinking about changing it.
Well the png is there too so u can use it as a background I guess

Does it work to flash this lb other Android systems like 2. 1/ 2. 2k any experiences?
Thx guys

This is just a splash image file so as long as your screen size is 480 x 800. You can search for how to change the splash image for your particular phone and then just use this file. I'm sure it will work on any version of android
Anyone have the adb commands handy for pulling the stock splash image just in case I want to put it back?
This is a copy of the original splash that I found in another thread.
did that last attachment post?
lets try that again. this is the default splash.

Even though the original splash is posted, the commands to pull the old one are to be executed from a root shell and are as follows:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 of=/mnt/sdcard/splash.img
You may have to do a search for it because when I pulled mine it put it into a random folder on my computer
****Disclaimer!!! I am not responsible for any errors or issues that may come from using these directions. This method has been tested and used by me on the T-Mobile G2 ONLY.****
Ok, I like playing with boot animations on my device. And I have this quirk for running everything I can on the device, rather than through ADB, unless I have to. While digging through assorted threads, here and abroad, I ran across a nifty app called GScript lite, free on the Market, and amazingly useful. On another thread, someone pointed out that if you copy a boot animation to /data/local, it will take precedence over any boot animations that your favorite ROM may install. So, I decided to simplify changing boot ani's, so I can swap them around whenever I feel like it. I now have it down to about 30 sec, and decided to post this for everyone interested to try it. Ok, so, here's the details;
Requirements: GScript lite, file manager, new boot animations
1) Download the animation you want to try to your SDcard
2) Copy the zip to /mnt/sdcard
3) Rename animation file "bootanimation.zip"
4) Open GScript and hit menu
a) Type in whatever you want to call the script in the top
box
b) Make sure "Needs SU?" is checked
c) Type cp /mnt/sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local
<enter>
reboot
d) Now hit "save"
5) Just press your scriptname in the list and enjoy!
From here on out, to change boot animations, all you need to do is copy the renamed file to SD root, and click on that script, phone will reboot showing your brand new animation. "Share and Enjoy!"
I'd like to thank the GScript devs for a very useful tool, and Kaanha for the commands
Click the Thanks button if this helps you.
Nice...definitely makes switching them pretty simple. Thanks!

Works like a charm!!!!
Thanks Much!!!
There are a few apps on the Market that can do this as well, no Terminal knowledge required (or scripts)
Simply search for your bootanimation from the GUI and it should do the job for you...
Boot Animation Changer Lite comes to mind, it's free.
There are a few other ones if you search for bootanimation on the Market.
Hope this helps. Good luck

Just because Android is flashed on the phone instead of WinMo doesn't do magic. It will probably perform the same as from SD-card in case of problems. I believe R/W speed is somewhat faster from nand (different type of ROM than SD-card).
Edit. Besides, isn't there still some problems with nand on GSM phones?

Not that i would really be in android/nand/... but i noticed this debate. The problem is that there were just too many false prophets with no results. I would rather recomend a donation to download (like xming) so people can donate for results not for good wishes.

I can make it but won't be able to test it as my phone is currently bricked. I can create the zip and give it to you if you're willing to take the risk. Never done this before so can't guarantee. As soon as my phone will be back I'll surely do it.
