Hi - I have a HTC Desire (T-Mobile UK - which seems to be different to other HTC Desires in functionality/menu options).
I did an upgrade to Froyo (official, OTA version) and it restored my contacts after the upgrade.
I did a factory reset (for another issue) and assumed it would restore my contacts but it didn't!! The data must be there but how do I get it to do the restore???
On the Desire with froyo no more data backup and restore at the moment..u can sync contacts with gmail

Thanks. Are you absolutely sure? I ask because when I loaded froyo it restored my data...at least that's what it said it was doing!
I'm sure:

When u loaded froyo, u still have backup feature because was in 2.1, now that u have froyo, when u did factory reset there is no backup feature (at the moment, we will hope in next htc updates).

I've rooted my branded O2 UK HTC Desire 2.1-update1 phone with unrevoked3. Is there a way to upgrade to 2.2 and keep Sense UI? What is the best way to upgrade to 2.2? I read on here that I need a 'Goldcard'. Will updating via OTA not work or is not advisable?
Easy
Easiest way if you want plain jane Htc Sense with 2.2, ill link a rom which is official 2.2 sense rom, but ull need to flash radio seperately, if you need help flashing, pm me, but im assumed your not a noob if you figured out unrevoked.

if you install a stock android 2.2 that will come without sense.
if you install a htc 2.2 sense rom that will come with sense.
all you need to backup is your contacts/bookmarks/texts etc and install a rooted rom of your choice.

Well I am a newbie but I've learnt quickly. I've already tried CM6 (no Sense UI, didn't like the differences) and a Sense 2 ROM (a little buggy and doesn't actually have a lot of what Sense 2 actually has.
One question and one problem though.
Problem: I backed up my existing ROM but when I restored to it things like USB storage didn't work. I eventually got it fixed but no idea how. Any ideas what is going on here?
Question: From the backup how can I import my messages and bookmarks to the new ROM?
Boy I wish there was a way to move Contact Storage to the SD card. It's syncs and syncs and syncs and wipes out all my free space. :-(
Shame you cannot move many apps to the SD card. The HTC Desire is hugely limited with internal memory. :-(
Ta, I've tried CM6 and a Sense 2 ROM - not happy with either so yeah might install the HTC 2.2 ROM. Thanks.
My HTC desire was originally T-mobile UK Branded. After rooting and messing about with a few custom ROM's I returned it to Stock using:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
Downloaded from xda
It's now clean unrooted, unbranded, stock hBoot HTC Sense 2.2, nice and stable apart from a few problems with text messages.
Question.
Will this phone update to Gingerbread (if it ever does actually appear!!) in it's current state, or will I have to try and find the original T-mobile branded ROM? Which I don't have by the way; anyone got it???

Why did't you just say Rooted and use you best RoM, and wait for the XDA Devs to use official RoM? imo A leaked version will come out before OTA.
since you debranded it i see no reason to not recive OTA
so you should be ok
Does stock Desire have sense 2.1 or 2.2 ?

Also wouldnt bother re-branding it as the unbranded version will be out MONTHS before the network versions - if they ever bother to bring one out that is !!

To get OTA updates from your carrier you will need the official rom, the t-mobile roms are listed with the other RRUs in the Dev forum here (look for the TMO RRUs) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
a direct link to the latest t-moble RRU i beleave is this one here - http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
hope this helps
OTA on debranded handsets (with a gold card) stopped working with the last OTA update - chances are you'll need to use an RUU (assuming it leaks) OR a custom ROM
I found RUU to make the phone more stable than an OTA to be honest.
When I had 2.1 -> 2.2 the bluetooth was all over the place, kept dropping out etc., and a few other minor niggles.
Flashed 2.2 RUU from scratch and it seemed to 'fix' some of the issues I was having.
Friend of mine tried same but had been factory resetting to try and fix things and I suggested running RUU and he said his phone seemed more stable after that too (rather than the factory reset option)
Not sure how much of the above is just a placebo effect - or the reinstall completely did fix some possibly dodgy files?

Maybe the OTA update didn't clear cashe correctly when it installed to make a bug. At the end of the day RRUs contain all OTA updates up to a certen point, the reinstall would wipe cashe and data so it would fix the bug you had.

So, I keep converting the HTC One M8 to GPE and back to Sense using the RUU.
I'm wanting to go back to GPE for a bit, 5.0.1 but i use the HTC Backup to restore
messages, contacts and so on without me having to do in manually (which is annoying).
I want to know if the HTC Backup app will work on the GPE Lollipop version and if so,
Could you link me to the apk i can use?
Thanks , appreciated.

Couldn't find anything else about this but i found another thread that was never responded.

EDIT: !!
I RUU'd into the GPE Version of 5.0.1 Lollipop and i tried the HTC Backup , side loaded and it crashed, so, no, It won't be able to restore all my stuff (Bad HTC).
I wanted to avoid having to wipe and re-install my apps and messages, But yeah, it will crash.
(This for future reference for anybody else with the same question)
I created a Download link for those who want it:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ql5618jj2l94hvz/HTC_Backup.rar
Wish I'd seen this earlier....
I flashed GPE Plus+ today (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963927)
My only backup was with HTC Backup, because it's been so reliable before...
UGH!!!
(AT&T HTC One M7 - carrier lock removed (legally), rooted, still using AT&T on active SIM, getting ready to move to TING)
Hi,
I've currently got a HTC One M8 running Android 5.0.1 and Sense 6. I'm about to root it, I've backed up my apps, contacts etc. using the HTC backup app, I just wanted to know if after rooting my phone (I'm staying on Sense 6) I'll be able to use the recovery option to recover all my apps and data,
Thanks,
PJRaphael
Hello people.
I made an upgrade to marshmallow from android 5.0.1, but before doing that I did an HTC Backup. Now I'm trying to restore my backup using the HTC Restore app and the system integrated HTC Backup but both of them say that there's no backup at all.
I have been trying for two days without luck, what should I do? My HTC Backup is lost forever? I will appreciate any help.
HTC backup has been removed in 6.0 , you should have used HTC Sync desktop software to backup your device before upgrading to 6.0. I am afraid you may not be able to restore your backup.
