Hey there guys.
Just a quick one.
I have seen a couple of screen shots around (although can't remember where now) of a slightly differend clock widget background containing a little android Droid.
Anyone know how this is done? Maybe through applying a theme?
I have root and JF1.3 RC8 etc etc so not probs there.
Thanks
Phil
usually it's done through a theme, but you can actually just take the clock icon out of someones theme that has it, it's in the drawable folder of launcher.apk.
If you pull your launcher.apk file just copy the clock you want to the drawable folder on it and push launcher.apk back to your phone.
Cool.
Where is the launcher.apk?
Sorry... just starting with this phone and not totally fond my way round its files etc yet.
Thanks
it'll be under apps in any theme update file....
check out my theme... it has a ubuntu feel, with old themed clock like ubuntu's wallpaper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469710
also changed fonts, and boot screen
Sorry. I meant where on the phone is the file (where would I copy from/to in order to put the custom clock image into the launcher.apk file.
Like that theme but don't really fancy any themes at all and just want the clock on its own really.
Thanks
Phil
You would have to edit the launcher.apk like they said then push it by its self to your G1 then you will have the clock and the rest of your theme will stay the same.
What they are leaving is that you must open the firmware package of your choice and edit the launcher.apk from the correct sub-folder. To be honest if you're not well adjusted to hacking up a firmware I wouldn't just start experimenting without proper guidence and reading of the available documentation on this platform. If you go about it half assed that's what you're gonna get.
I've tried using FreshFace, aHome, and dxTop, but there are just some features I don't want and only a few I do want.
Is there any way to assign ONLY the icon package from a theme? There's an aHome HTC Hero Theme that has the most spectacular icons, but I don't want the additional screens and the drawer change.
This has to be possible somehow! Thanks in advance for any info.
to use just the icons would require repackaging every apk on your phone that those icons correspond to. you over-write the stock icons with the new icons. possible, but not practical. this is what a theme update does, but its done for you by the theme creator, they already repacked it with the new images/icons. of course they dont repack everything, only certain ones they want.
maybe you can edit the theme file, remove all the other stuff n only keep the apks you want. then resign it and update it.
Bettercut?
Open home gives you the options of Skin / Icon, so i'm pretty sure you can assign any icon theme to any skin theme.
I was wondering if there is an easy way for me to see which of the icons under the SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-hdpi folder are actually used in my rom? I am going to modify the colors but notice that a bunch of those are not even used.
I noticed that I can do that with the UOT kitchen, but when I installed the new SystemUI.apk not all of the icons were changed to the color I put in. So, I figured I will just go in and do it manually. It will be a learning experience anyway.
I am just getting into customizing and it is pretty fun. As long as I don't screw it up too much.
Thanks,
Jeff
My suggestion would be to grab another theme for the rom you are running, from an established themer, and rip the drawable-hdpi folder out of that SystemUI.apk to see what they have themed. Also helps in pointing out those real pesky icons that you only rarely see but are used.
oh.. and keep an eye out for those crazy .9png's!!!
Hey everyone. I know that you all have way to much on your hands already but I just wanted to throw something out there.
I am looking for a theme that is not very far from stock, actually it would be exactly like stock except instead of green colors everywhere, you would have a different color like blue. I would REALLY love one where the green was changed to purple or a purple/pink color but I would probably be the only one to use it so blue is ok.
Would this be a hard theme to make since not much is changing but the green color? I wish I knew how to do it. I am using the EK02 UnNamed ROM also and there aren't many theme options so maybe this could be one of the firsts.
You can try the ICS theme we have, some people have gotten it to work on UnNamed, some havent.
It's not that it's hard to change it all to pink, it is just very time consuming to change every single piece to pink. It could be something simple like just the battery & network Icons but going all out and changing the overscroll glow, dialer, and the framework etc. is a ton of work. Most of it requires working with .9 files which can't just be edited like a normal .png.
i think a red one would be awesome. blood blood blood.
i can imagine changing everything would be tedious. tracking things down in every menu, etc etc.
requires more patience than i probably have.

I made (edited) a theme chooser theme once for my motorola cliq on cyanogen and it was very time consuming and I had to work with a png9 editor and it did kinda suck...
If I could find a theme out there that was very close to stock....I would have no issues editing the icons myself and then sending it back to the owner for resigning or whatever needed to be done. I just can't find a theme that is close to stock LOL.

You would just download a stock rom and extract the images.
I've been playing around with the theme engine on CM9 nightlies and want to tweak one of the existing theme apks from the market for my own use, specifically the purple holo. I've been trying to integrate yellow into it for a schnazy purple/yellow theme starting with the dialer.
So here's the snag: I have no errors nor problems decompiling the theme apk. I go into the drawable file(s) (hdpi, mdpi and I believe xhdpi) and copy the dialer icons and proceed to edit them in gimp, changing them to yellow. I save them as .pngs. and then drop them back into their respected drawable folders.
Now I recompile, again, no errors or problems. Sign the apk and then push it to my phone. It installs just fine. HOWEVER when I go to switch to the theme via the integrated theme engine I states that it was not compiled properly and to contact the author.
So what am I missing? Do I actually need to edit an XML or something? I never changed any names or locations of any of the files. I'm new to themeing and trying to started on personal projects, maybe one day create my own from scratch. Any help from all you masters out there would be appreciated.

Edited to include a market link of the theme I'm trying to alter:
