Hi there,
i need a little help.
i have rooted my HTC Desire (Froyo hboot 0.93) with ClockworkMod..
and now i want to place a fresh new ROM with the ClockWork Recovery.
But it wont work it always said:
assert failed: file_getprop( fingerprint.somethingelse )
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
ive tested with Authentification On and Off with no success
i have had that happen to me
your provider wouldnt happen to be us cellular would it? do you know if your phone is CDMA?, because every time i have tried to install a new rom from here i get that same exact same error message and think its because my phone is through us cellular and its cdma, its just a matter of waiting for some one to make a custom rom
Moved to general as not development.
Please don't make new threads in development with questions or user support issues.

Hi i have a virginmedia Desire phone, i have tried every meathod to get 2.2 update on my phone, even bought a 1gig card for goldcard which says is working, when i use gold card tool.
My current boot: 080, Version 123, rom installed, everytime i try to flash a differnt ruu to debrand the phone i get error code 140, i have tried 121, 115 roms without avail.
Any help at this point i would be greatful for.
Or i will just have to wait for VM to release it.
Many Thanks in advance

Can you stop posting here people?
THIS IS DEVELOPMENT SECTION!!!!!
Post in right sections, mods?
I hope you'll get help tho, nothing against you
one word for you: unrEVOked
www.rootmydroid.co.uk then click "desire" on the right
Hi mate, done that even lost my Normal HTC recovery console.
i read somewere any with 123, bootloader 080 can not update, or downgrade.
can anyone confirm this.
Yes unrEVOked root's your Desire, giving you access to all these nice Rom's on here
Pick one you like to the look of and flash it. You will keep you 0.80 HBOOT and can flash between 2.1, 2.2, Sense and AOSP as you like.
Please help me
You can help yourself by using a proper title for your posts instead of "please help me" and post in the right section, this section is for rom development.
Hi Mate,
Can you give me a little more detail about this, i have tried every solution no to man,
and i either get 121, saying ruu error code 140, or 115, stating error 170,
when i try to root and use the update.zip meathod i get to the assert part then the
install aborts itself.
I would love to someone to tell me if any one out their knows what im doing wrong, or if indeed its a case that my desire has some kind of branded lock on it by VM and HTC,, I am at the end of my tether trying to sort this out. Even bought a new 1gb memory card for rooting still no luck.
I did apologise one before to the admins, im new to this.
I don't think having a go really helps. thanks for your support.
Please could you explain the process, to make sure im doing this correct, sorry for being such a Noob!
Don't be sorry, just explain what your actual problem is
give ys a step by step guide what you are doing with what and where the errors are being thrown up
My problem is: Bootloader 080, Version software 123, Virginmedia unlocked but branded phone, tried all methods to downgrade to 121 so i can flash the 2.2 update.
121 = Error code 140 bootloader when i get to the signatures part, RUU
115 = Error code 171 Bootloader when i get to the singatures part, RUU
Update.zip meathod get the assert part then come up with loads of basic failer errors
then eventually aborts itself.
I made a goldcard = with gold card tool, works fine, but still i cant unbrand my phone, dont know if anyone has come across this, been to Mark Southby blog and no can help me from their. Hopefully you great chaps on here can.
With that bootloader you should not really need to goldcard, just root and flash another rom.
Do not flash the OTA or official 2.2 from HTC as it will just spoil your experiences in the future, if your really that picky about custom roms then just flash a pre-rooted 2.2 stock rom.
Just follow the unrevoked guide on rootmydroid (as per my last post) and you should have no problems (no RUU required).
Many Thanks
for the help i will try that 1st, and come back if i need more assistance.,
sorry for posting in the wrong place.

yep, took me literally 60 seconds.
Hi guys, I'm confused.
I have a stock HTC Desire on Orange with 2.10.405.2. I've been having problems with the radio (losing data connectivity but not showing it, text messages being delayed for hours, etc) and decided to root it with Unrevoked and put a new radio and RIL pack on. Well, I did that OK (although the connectivity problems persist).
The trouble is that now there's an OTA update to 2.29.405.2, which I would quite like to try out. When I tried to run it, Clockwork Recovery gave a signature check error.
Could someone explain how to fix this? I don't mind losing root, but I would very much prefer to run an update rather than flash a rom and lose everything on the phone! A clear description of what's going on would be appreciated, cheers!
I'm pretty sure, running the OTA would brick your phone, thats why it wont go through, what you need to do it, flash an Stock rom on your phone, then do OTA
Read the Wiki or Ask in the Desire forum for more help
Oh my, this reply came in just after I had managed to start an update (by moving/renaming the update file to update.zip in the root directory and using clockwork recovery). And as I read the update, the phone had been on the HTC splash screen for quite some time...
I almost had a heart attack.
But it's booted now The update failed due to not having enough free memory.
I suppose I'll just have to back up what I can and flash the stock rom. It's really annoying that rooting the phone in order to give me more flexibility has taken away the option to update painlessly.... That is, unless someone can point me towards a rooted update file?
Oh, the radio I updated to was Radio Froyo 5.11.05.27 (I flashed the RIL zip file separately), I am not sure how much that could affect things.
too bad that my phone had enough memory and now I'm trying to flash a stock rom.
The 1st one I tried was 2.09, and it failed saying kind of "invalid ruu version".
Now downloading 2.29.....
Hi!
I've just purchased a new HTC Desire Z (carrier free, no Sim-lock), and It wants me to install the 1.72 OTA update, but when installing it, this is what happens:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Copying fotaBoot to /data/system for customize reload...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/customize/CID/HTC__001.xml", two cids here
E:Error in /sdcard/download/OTA_Vision_HTC_WWE_1_72_405_2_R-1_1_34_405_5_P_release_blablabla.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I've tried to make a goldcard from my SD, but it didn't solve the problem.
The phone is new, so it's not rooted, or stuff like that.
What is going on? Why can't I update it? I've even tried to copy the update.zip to the root of the SD, and try to update it manualy from recovery mode, but it has this very same problem as stated above!
This thing is just driving me crazy, and I'm stuck to 2.2.
Android version: 2.2
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
2.6.32.21-gd2764ed
1.34.405.5 CL273326 release-keys
1.34.405.5
Is there any fix?
Thanks in advance!
Somebody? Any ideas?
it sounds like you're wanting to get Android 2.3? if that is the case, installing 1.72 OTA update will actually get you further away at this point.
you'll need to root (on your DZ, you need to be version 1.34 to do this) and install a Gingerbread rom (the only vanilla gingerbread roms we have right now are CyanogenMod-based) to get a taste of 2.3... as of today, there is no official Gingerbread release for our devices.
as to why the OTA update is failing, I'm not going to be of much help.. you'll have to wait for one of the gurus to take notice.
Thank you for your reply!
Nah, actually I'd like to get the phone up to Android 2.2.1 with this 1.72 OTA update.
And if some time HTC will have an Android 2.3 OTA, I'd like to get that one then.
But I don't want to root it, or hack anykind of unofficial ROM on it, just the factory OTA, which currently fails on update! And I don't really understand why is that, and also searched it in the forum + google, and couldn't find anybody with the similar problem

gotcha. well, if I had to guess, I'd say something went wrong with the goldcard creation.
maybe try going through the goldcard setup again and triple-check that you've done everything correctly? that's about the best advice I have to give ya... since I've never owned an unbranded phone and haven't done an OTA update on my G2 (I rooted before I installed any), I'm just not very experienced.
there are several very knowledgeable dudes on here who own DZs, hoping one of them can chime in and offer their insight. best of luck.
Thanks
Maybe I'll just write to HTC
I wonder what would hapen if I'd (try to) delete this file:
/system/customize/CID/HTC__001.xml
Ok

Plz HELP
Do not ask the same question three times in three different places.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
you can install stock_hboot with android flasher
(if you have a cm7 hboot, your phone is already rooted and s-off)
then you can apply the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5
you can find it here
If your phone is a branded one, you will probably need a goldcard to flash the RUU.
ok guys, htc desire-s-off and rooted.i had a bad flash while instaling miui, after several failed roll backs and reinstalls i went back to 2.2.... i then installed htc's upgrade..... question time, have i unrooted my phone ? it still says s-off, but when i try to get into clock mod i cant, can get into recovery (android system ) but it says E:can't open/cache/recovery/command.... am i stuffed till some nice person hacks the bootloader.... its getting a bit confusing with people saying this and that and that many threads ... headaacheeeee...... thanks in advance
If ur s_off then u still can root
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium Appo
but,s-off and root are not done at the same time,i have been reading other threads and posts on the net. it says if you have upgraded with htc 2.3 you cant root 2.3 ?
re
only if the upgrade has changed your s-off. just install recovery and install already rooter rom and your ok. your lucky the upgrade didnt removed your s-ff
bit confused , cant install anything because i cant access clockword mod.can only get into android recovery and i get the E:cant open /cache/recovery/command at the bottom of android recovery. clockwork is still on my sd card... have tried flasing the revolutionary 3.32 and i get software to new ? .any help or which direction i should try next , also i have opened rom manager and i keep on getting an error has occured while trying to run privileged commands, also when i open rom manager it says super user not found at bin etc .....
