As I understand, CyanogenMod and ROMs based on it support the Wiimote.
I can't say for sure though, as I personally couldn't be bothered to tote around a Wiimote to play games on my Desire (though I understand why others do!).

Dave

i thought the wiimote support was so you can use your device as a wiimote, not so you can use a wiimote on it

Since the HTC Smart is formally an HTC phone, will it get it's own dedicated forum? It came out back in March and I still have yet to see a forum for it. Can anyone let me know if/when a forum will be made? Thanks!
Until we hear from some developers on how much can be done with the HTC Smart, we're going to skip it. This could change...
Alright, I haven't heard much from it. That's why I was curious since every HTC phone ever made is on here... except for the Smart....

That's not true really. First ones that come in mind are:
HTC P3000 (HTC Wave)
HTC P6300 (HTC Panda)
Qtek G100 (HTC Galaxy)
Those devices was never added to xda and there are some more I think

Aren't those the chinese ones that are all under the Dopod name though?
AFAIK, there's not much that can be done with the HTC Smart at present
I know someone with it, but he seems to feel hard-done by compared to my Hero and other Android phones out there. I dunno if it can be 'rooted' or anything like that.
But I imagine that given the proprietary nature of the OS, it will gain a limited following, which might hinder any possible dev work.
But if you can get into the device using telnet or anything like that, or find a way to flash or modify the filesystem, then you're half way there

Well.... if their was an XDA section I think it would progress in terms of customization and support.

+200. By adding a BREW forum (like you did with bada) we could most likely get some people on board to look at the HTC Smart and Freestyle.
And then there was silence!
Brew forum needed
I agree about the need for a Brew forum. Discussion breeds ideas
Bought my wife one of these sweet looking phones as her introduction to smart phone what waste of time, thing just keeps freezing, dialling when it likes to random people and openly moves stuff around after she has customized it......
Tried to sync it even that is not strait forward.........downloaded the HTC Sync software and can get it connected but the section on the right is all greyed out and it comes up with tick on of the boxes for it to sync.....but there's nothing to tick..
Anyone else had any problems?? I feel an updated firmware might well help. The no mention of the phone even existing on the HTC website and I only got it xmas just gone. I find that pretty appalling...
Well.... if their was an XDA section I think it would progress in terms of customization and support.

You want to put windows onto an android phone?
Virtually everyone that owns a Leo (HD2) has been trying to do the opposite since they got their handset.
In short. No
There are far too few interested for any chef to bother.
There are Windows Phone 7 themes and apps that can replicate the look.
If you get Launcher pro and pay for the extras then i recommend having a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781455
If anything it looks better than WP7
Also have a look in the market (from your phone) for windows phone android.
Its a work in progress app that will give you the awful blue tiles effect that you want.
There is also Zune Home, This looks like the older windows 6.5
Hope this helps (if it does hit the thanks button)

i know the topic is like 9 months old, but you might want to consider that a future is not written until someone takes it as a challenge and wupti you got phone7.5 on HD2
So, never say "No"

Indeed. of course the desire would end up "crap"
Unfortunately it would never happen mate. WP7 is closed source. Microsoft isn't too happy with people flashing it to the HD2 (leo) and that runs wm 6.5.
Anyhow android is so much better. But try metro or launcher7 on the market. There's free and pay for apps.
HTC Desire
Not a rom, but try "Launcher 7" from the market. It's a launcher that gives the look of WM7.
Not sure if it's any good, not tried it personally.
I'd be tempted to try and get a HD2 if I was interested in WP7 - because of the ability to run WM6.5/WP7/Android/Windows98/etc.
I can't see it coming to the Desire anytime soon - as already said - lack of interest to port something that will be very difficult
I don't like the WP7 launchers. Want one? Then get a WP7 phone. or the hd2 as that beast does near enough anything. Except ios and palms software ofcourse ;-)
HTC Desire
I know this is an old thread but I did not feel like opening a new one for a question that's already asked.
So the question is: Can WP7 run on a HTC Desire. While it would be difficult to do, i'm absolutely sure that someone would be able to do it. Why?
1: HTC HD2. It can run Android, it can run WP7. This makes the point "WP7 is closed source so it's not possible" invalid.
2: Somebody made Ubuntu run on a HTC Desire. also there is a lot of information on the bootloader of Android devices and I'm sure there is some info on the Windows Mobile/Phone bootloaders.
3: Android 4 ICS is already running on the HTC Desire with Hardware Acceleration, even though the drivers needed are not published by the maker (Quallcomm if I remember). This either means that someone is doing extra work of making existing drivers work or that someone is actually making th new drivers.
4: HTC uses the same kind of chips for their whole lineup. Take for example the HTC Mozart:
CPU: Qualcomm QSD8250
Memory: 576 MB RAM; 512 MB ROM
GPU: Adreno 200
Resolution: 800x480
Those are 4 of the most important parts of any phone that may cause problems because of drivers. Also the HTC Trophy and HTC Radar have the same camera resolution as the one in the HTC Desire, so they may be the same.
All in all, I think it should be possible to port WP7 to the Desire. Main problem would be to find someone that actually cares enough to put lots of time in it and also knows the details on both Android and WP7.
Other main problem is that WP7 is closed source, which would make the developers process take a lot longer, discouraging devs even more to try it.
So let me know how your (educated!!!) views are on this subject.
I got HTC Desire, but I dont like Android. Still no chance flash it to WP7 ?
Ehh I'm waiting for wp7 too. Know that feel Bros.

I've just upgraded to a Sensation, have my desire lying around and I wanted to know the same thing... Looking back at it now its sluggish on my ROM. I fancy trying wp7 but there don't seem to be any ROM's around still. I think that with a bit of tweaking for the desire it would be cool... We just need a chef to cook something like this up... Please, if anyone has the skills...

As topic suggests which latest Rome have Bluetooth gamepad wiimote support.
And could someone f*******★*************Ingram answer me for a change.
Lost count how many times I've asked this now
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I guess no one knows that's why no one has answered you. I would go ahead and say devs don't put this most specific thing into a rom, they just make it work then **** around with it later. Just go buy a Wii remote from somewhere. A smartphone isn't that smart.
may as well sell my desire and get an experia play at least it will work right
i cant get an answer in the 3d forums so i will try here. wiimote does not work with the new 3d due to the new sense and or bluetooth. my question is can i use any bluetooth controller with my 3d as long it is bluetooth 3.0 or am i going to have to wait until it is rooted and only use wiimote? i am not fond of the wii controller so i am hoping i can use something else for my emulators and games.
Well considering this isn't an Evo 3d forum, we can't help you.

well considering you are a jackass, go screw yourself. 3d forum or not, someone with tech knowledge can answer and help. you obviously cant, so stfu and get off my thread.
you are a prime example of what has become a problem on xda in general, spitting out helpless and jackass comments on people's posts instead of trying to assist anyone. people like you bring a bad name to xda, luckily the good helpful people out number the negative people on here like yourself so far.

From the evo, it would only work on a rooted phone that was running an aosp rom. Wiimote controller is the app...idk if it will work for other though.

Wow! Answers like this piss me the HELL off! Wish there were dislikes. LOL
Well, what makes the wii controller not work with sense? What do they need to change in order to make it work for the Evo phones altogether? What isn't working? I have tried to get it to work too. but I just didn't spend enough time researching it.
Piss off you retards. I was simply telling him there isn't much we can help him with here, as this isn't a forum for that phone. That would be like me asking a question about my Mustang in a Camero forum. It doesn't make any sense.
And he continues to prove the point. Bravo
Apple sucks ballz
The Evo3D and Evo are about the same phones and run off about the same software. I have confirmed that you need a AOSP ROM to make it work... But still attempting to find out more and why's.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrR68FR7Xu8
HOWEVER, the biggest thing is you don't want to start installing different roms onto your phone. then again, you can't anyway as we haven't figured out how to root your phone. lol.
But I bet you'd end up not getting the 3D part as most developers wouldn't have a clue on how to program that as of this time. 3D software is still new at the second.
I personally would give up on trying to make it work. That's what I did. I personally can flash my phone. but why on earth would I install a AOSP ROM? I like what I have.
Oh I'm not worried about 3d stuff. I just want a contoller to work wirh my emulators like n64oid, snesoid, gensoid etc...
Apple sucks ballz
then why on earth did you buy an evo 3d? and I thought we couldn't root those yet? can only do it on a rooted phone.
Well that answers my question then. I thought there might be a controller that would work without root is all. Thank you for your help guys

Welcome to the Android world. In order for members to suggest what to get is you have to give more info on what phone you want or using at the moment.
There are thousands of apps in the android market and lots of ROMs to choose from.
i liked using Engadget, Pulse, IMDB, XDA, Taptu, and a bunch of other stuff most people wouldn't be interested in. i don't have my phone right now so i can't see my Play download history. nobody can tell you what ROM to use. you just have to read and pick one. i mostly just like to look at the pictures. ;p
I have just preordered the htc one x for AT&T and I was wondering what are the best and maybe some of your favorite apps.

Cool. I like MyBackup Pro and Root Explorer from the market. They are not free but I think they are worth it.
For ROMs I think you have to venture to the One XL forum to find out what they are cooking there.
Ok thanks, do you know of any apps that are specific to android that are not on ios? And I'll check out that other thread too.

Angry birds in space
And I definitely definitely definitely recommend swiftkey, the best keyboard out there (some prefer swype). In fact if you're not happy with the HTC keyboard just have a look around, you can even get the stock android keyboards.
Tegra zone shows you the latest games designed specifically for Tegra phones.
Chrome browser (however it lacks the text reformatting that htc provides on the stock browser)
Enjoy

The most important one I believe is if you ever root your device make sure you read the instructions and it should work out fine. ANd always backup your stuff.
Hmmm.. about android it's pretty basic though. Maybe watch some youtube clips to see how it goes.

Are there any real advantages to rooting an android device? It's kinda like jail breaking an iPhone right, is it mainly for themes, or is there more to it? I hate sounding like an idiot.

Think of it as jailbreak x2. Firstly you need it for Roms. (themes can be changed without rooting actually).
It also let's you modify your phones behaviour and performance to suit (for example, overclocking)
Hope that helps, I know other members can explain it better than me though
