[question] Visual voice mail problems anyone? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was playing around with 2 roms tonight and noticed an issue with vvm not making a connection to sprint. I figured it was the roms so I restored my backup and am still having the same problem. I'm in a decent service area and I can make and receive calls. But when I leave a voicemail it will only let me dial in too check it won't let me use the application. Anyone else having issues?

I was just going to post the same thing. Lots of errors: v30 and v08, can't download the upgrade to voice mail? Maybe it will be working in the morning after I wake up.

[Q] No call waiting with google voicemail?

Is anyone else having issues with call waiting not working when using google voicemail? I like the features of google voice but this is a deal breaker. I noticed that the call waiting feature is not working at all on my sprint # and every time it is going directly to voicemail, I assume this has to be because of google voice is configured to be my default voicemail?
Is there any solution to this problem besides going back to sprint vvm?
So all the people who are using google vm are fine with losing call waiting? And CM recommends google vm and boasts how it is far superior to to sprint voicemail even though we lose a major feature like this?
I find that all very hard to believe, there has got to be a solution someone must know! I've searched everywhere and can't find anything.
I use GVoice and love it, and I have no issues with call waiting.
I did have a ton of problems with GVoice when I first started using it. After a ton of reading and trial-and-error on setting things up different ways over and over I finally realized Sprint's voicemail service was conflicting with GVoice.
I called Sprint and actually had them completely remove their voicemail service from my account. I can add it back anytime I want. I have had zero issues with GVoice since then. YMMV
GV works fine for me. i get my voice mails transcribed, call waiting works, and if you install the app, you get a nice little toggle link for how you want your outbound calls routed.
win.

Yea I'm getting all those features as well, like I said everything works great except call waiting. But I'm gonna try nebenezer's suggestion and hope for the best.
You know what else doesn't work with Google Voice is "Decline" because if you decline a call it goes straight to Sprint Voicemail. The call never gets forwarded. Deal breaker for me.

hmm, I didn't realize that.
One thing that does bug me too is that caller-id-blocked numbers don't make it to GVoice either.
My work line shows as 000-000-0000 on caller id. I have tested this on a wide variety of phones and gvoice settings and never have I been able to leave myself a vm from my work line.

Well that sucks, back to Sprint VVM for me then.
Hopefully this is something that Google can even fix and isn't a limitation due to Sprint's network or hardware in some way.

FWIW, I just tested this a couple times with a friend at work, no problems here. Maybe that was another conflict with Sprint's voicemail service?
He called my phone from his, I declined the call, he left a voicemail..
If you want to make sure that voice mails go to google voice, turn on Call Screening. That way if you don't answer, decline or you miss the call, you google voice picks up the message. You may get a voicemail message in your sprint voicemail box, but it will only have the message "press 1 if you want to accept this call"
So with this method you don't have to forward calls at all.
Let me know if this helps anyone.

Not Receiving Incoming Calls

So for some reason, my Evo just stopped receiving incoming calls. I can make calls fine, but when someone calls me, my phone doesn't ring. I tried using my land line to call my phone and it rings 4-5 times and goes to voicemail. However, the phone never rings at all. I'm not sure what the problem can be and how to resolve this issue. This just started happening today.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
edit:sorry

Thanks for the suggestion.
I called sprint and got it fixed. Had to restore everything by doing ##3282# and entering MSL and restoring the data profile.
Are you on 3G only? I've had similar problems. I think what happens is that the phone gives priority to certain data activity (like account syncs) over voice (and SMS). And depending on what you're syncing and what kind of speeds you're getting then it could block you from getting calls for several minutes at a time. I use the hotspot a lot and I basically can't receive calls or SMS when I'm on 3G using the hotspot.
Try turning off all account syncing stuff (or go on wifi) and then try calling your phone. See if the calls go through. That's not a fix, really. Just a way to figure out what the problem is.
If this is your problem then one kind of lame work around is to go to Settings->Call and switch the voicemail provider over to google voice. This way your calls will automatically roll over to google voice and from there you can set it up to fwd calls to either your landline or gchat or something. Also, you'll at least get missed call notifications. I haven't figured out a way to handle SMS though. I routinely get them delayed by at least 10 minutes. I've just been telling people to text me on google voice. But that's a pain.

[Q] Flashed Cricket EVO sending calls directly to voicemail

I root and flashed my HTC EVO 4G to cricket using Jiminy rom.
baseband: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel: 2.6.32.17-gee55fd
[email protected] #15
I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934417&highlight=flash+evo+cricket
2 weeks into having switched to cricket my phone has started sending a lot of calls directly to voice mail. Even when I have full reception and the phones are right next to each other. I went into the individual contacts to make sure the SEND to voicemail was off.
I checked my voicemail settings and they are with my number. I even did a NANdroid restore all the way back to the original ROM.
Around the same time as the problems started I had been trying to set up visual voice mail with Google voice and this other service. Neither worked, so I deleted the apps.
Has anybody have experience with similar issues?
I have the same problem and it sucks; so far, I haven't found a solution for that. And I honestly don't wanna change phones.
Im sorry but thats the way Criket service is and always has been.
Well I'm trying to figure out why my voicemail notifcations when I first got the Evo onto Cricket didn't work. I jumped around on ROMS and then they did work. Now once again they don't work. Problem is I can't figure out which ones worked.
As for your problem with them sending to voicemail directly. Sh*t happens. The only thing you can really check is with whomever called and see if it rings or just goes directly on their end. If its direct it might have some thing to do with your PRL or I have noticed that if my phone is doing something with the connection like syncing or whatever it feels like i won't get the call even though it will others. kingtheproducer is right though its Cricket and they don't care about a lot when it comes to customer service. Can't even talk to someone if your phone is listed CPE depending on the agent.
To get Google Voice to work you just forward your calls that you don't answer to your Google Voice number by dialing *74GoogleVoice# (not literally but your Google Voice number). As far as I know you can not port your number with Cricket to Google Voice. Just remember Cricket will not forward calls to a different area code so your Google Voice # must have the same area code as your phone.
Im not a big fan of Google Voice and how it sends you a billion notices for the same call. Never figured out how to get it to stop sending me emails, text messages and voicemail notifications for each call. And what good is visual voicemail when they cant transcribe the message worth a damn

[Q] weird GPS change, and also not getting voicemails

GPS:
after installing FreeGS3 rom.. i noticed that it's locking and directions / VISUAL guidance is correct.. but it kept telling me to "make a left on Sunset" and there was NO friggin' Sunset street around.. every verbal command it gave me (whether visually it was telling me to get on the 10, exit garfield, or whatever).. it was saying, verbally, "make a left on Sunset"
so i figure it coulda been the modem, flashed Galaxy-S-fre3-LJ7FirmwareModemAIO.zip .. and now the directions are still correct and all, and verbally it'll say "go straight" or "make a left" with appriopriate timing.. but it USED TO say "make a left on Ramona" or "go straight, then make a right on Peck"
...does any one have any clues how I can fix this? it's not broken, just not really 100% working either
Voicemail:
i noticed that after activating google voice, i stopped getting voicemail notifications / messages. i didn't like GV so i untangled it from my Sprint account and now.. when i dial in to change my voicemail greeting, it doesn't save. i've left messages on my cell from my business line and they're not even getting saved, as in, when i dial in to check messages, those messages are not there. i think i've read about issues with GV and VVM before but.. it seems like my Sprint voicemail is just not saving ANYTHING.. any clues what i can do?
EDIT: I called Sprint and it WAS GV messing things up.. they walked me through resetting a bunch of stuff and it works again now so if anyone else is having voicemail issues after untangling GV from your phone, best bet could be to just call Sprint. Still need ideas/help with the GPS thing though

M919 + SlimKat : Visual Voicemail phone fail

Hi folks,
I've got an odd problem and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
For a year, my T-Mobile S4 M919 has been working great, on the AT&T network. My ROM is a SlimKat ROM from last August, among the last builds of SlimKat before they went POP. All has been well except an occasional camera freeze.
My ATT plan now includes Visual Voicemail, so this week I downloaded the ATT Visual Voicemail app. It took a few tries to get settled in, but now it works and I quickly get the voicemail notifications, the transcriptions of the messages (which is the main reason I bothered to set it up), and the messages play just fine. Cool.
Here's the problem: after playing a visual voicemail sound from the phone (via the Visual Voicemail app), I loose phone sound and I believe microphone. I don't hear it dialing, I don't hear the person on the other end of the line, and I believe they don't hear me. This happens immediately after I listen to even 1 voice mail out loud via the app. Just getting a voicemail and looking at the transcription DOES NOT cause the problem. I only see the problem if I play the message out loud.
Reboot fixes it; nothing else I've tried fixes it without rebooting, including forceclosing the voicemail app etc..
This is a very odd error. It's right at the intersection of the AOSP Slimkat / ATT on a T-Mo phone / Vis Voicemail app complex intersection. I don't even know where to go to troubleshoot.
Any ideas? You guys have been my best support for a year, so I'm trying here!
Thanks in advance!
