From what I've been reading, my EVO will stop charging when it reaches 100% but maintain an appearance of a 100% level until it is disconnected, resulting in a large drop to its actual level after a few minutes of use. Using JuicePlotter, i find that my phone finishes charging around 3am; however i don't wake up to use it until at least 6:30. In the first 10 minutes disconnected from the wall, i'm already below 90%.
My first question: Is there an app that allows the EVO to continuously charge even after it is full?
My proposal: Using Tasker, or some other app, to have the phone turn off charging or run some battery intensive apps when the phone reaches 99%. Then turn on charging or turn off those apps when the phone reaches 98%. These are just guesstimate numbers but you get the idea. My thought is that the phone will cycle through these two tasks continuously through the night so that by the time i wake up, i'll have at least 98% charge left on my phone.
My second question: What kind of damage would this do to the battery and/or phone after long term use?
Any answers or comments would be appreciated.
I can give you the following suggestion. Put your alarm clock to ring at 3am. When you wake up, unplug/plug the charger into the phone and hit the snooze button at 15 min intervals. Each time you are woken up every 15 mins, you repeat the unplug/plug routine. This way, you will be able to keep topping off your battery until it's 6:30am. This is the only way to "trickle" charge your phone, while still being able to sleep.

If you read between the lines you'll see he actually have you good advice, if you don't take it literally.
When you wake up unplug your phone and plug it back in.
By the time you have your coffee, take your morning dump, and get your teeth brushed your phone will almost definitely be sitting at 100%..

LMAO!!!!
I can't figure out which one made me laugh more!!!!
On a side note it is actually good advice... but also check your up time and running time and make sure they aren't the same. Mine did the same thing until I found out that eBuddy was keeping my phone awake 100% and would drop my battery instantly.

I didn't know that XDA rules required you to post answers to questions WITHIN idiotic jokes. This whole time i haven't been reading between the lines! OH NO!
In response to what you've deciphered from his post: I know you can unplug and plug it in. But from what i've been seeing with people's usb ports breaking, i'm trying to limit how many times i connect my phone to a charger.
I just unplug my phone when I wake up, check my emails, facebook, all that, then plug it back in while I'm in the shower. It's back to 100% by the time I'm ready to leave.

do a google search for "broken evo port" and read some of the horror stories. i try to limit myself to only charging my phone once per day and have made every attempt to make sure my battery lasts longer than stock to restrict wearing away the port.
it seems like everyone's saying the same thing about unplugging and plugging the phone, but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to do that? i'm just proposing a possible way to do it and wondering if there's any side-effects in doing so.

HondaCop. I have to apologize. The seething hatred I have for poorly made japanese cars and the trauma i suffered at the hands of a cartoon park ranger has made me a little biased towards your replies.
I am merely trying to skip a step to get better battery life. How difficult is that to understand? Seriously, if you don't have anything more useful to say than something i've already heard twice on this thread, then i suggest you go back on patrol, officer. Put in enough overtime and you just might get those flame decals for your car.

This whole charging thing has been discussed ad-nauseum and it's common knowledge to simply just unplug and re-plug. Problem solved. No need to create complex algorithms, formulas or apps just to simplify this.

I was looking at the battery history graph just now and realized that there's a black gap on the graph. I can't figure out why that gap was there - my phone was on all the time and I hadn't suffered a sleep of death today. It looked like the battery recorder just had a blackout or something. Can someone explain that to me please? Thank you.
Means ur phone was booting.
Or it was off. Lol

Oh wait I I read. I dunno.
If you were in CWMR then it does that.
Hi,
Maybe you don't see it (while you did not use it) but it's like a reboot, saw your graph you did not used continuously so maybe you have not paid attention to a reboot.
I mean a random reboot.
In any case, for me,each time I have this kind of thing it was due to a reboot.

Ah, the reboot explanation makes sense.
But then, doesn't the blackout period seem a little too long for a reboot? The battery curve dropped roughly 5% and it changed from green to yellow. I somehow expected that if a reboot was to cause a gap on the curve, it wouldn't cause a significant drop in battery level.

System crashed. It drains alot of battery when it reboots. A normal one takes 2%. Plus it's best to to turn it off and reboot if it does this. It could happen again If you don't.
I might also guess that with a random reboot, a few minutes of battery history might have been cached but not yet written to battery stats. So that'd increase the gap.

If you plug your phone into a charger or computer while on it will show that gap. Perhaps you were copying music or a soon-to-be-flashed ROM onto your phone for a few minutes.

Isn't this more to do with the notification that the battery is now fully charged? When the notification appears, it will turn the screen on. Does the same happen when you get a late night text or something?
Unfortunately, I can't find anything that will turn off notifications. You could try "Profile Scheduler" by Wetpalm. While this function isn't currently available in the current version, a quick e-mail to the developer may get him to add this as an option. It would be nice to say when docked, and its after 11pm, don't turn the screen on. I'm not sure if this is feasible, but give it a go.
HTH.
whats if you set the brightness to lowest? do you still wake up then?
Can't you just turn off notification from toggle? Or don't use the dock at night and charge with cable turn phone face down...

totally agree on this one
I advise you to place your phone a little far away from you, especially when charging, because this causes much more rediation, does harm to you. And even if it turns on when fully charged, it won't affect you much.

Couldn't agree more. I would also recommend wearing a tin foil hat to bed (you can buy these or make them yourself) to further limit the severe impact that the aforementioned 'rediation' has on your soft, vulnerable brain tissue.
This made me laugh "rediation" why not build a faraday cage too then ?
I know it is annoying when your room is pitch black and you recieve a text or what ever then the screen lights up the room lol life is not easy...

When battery gets to 100% charged, it will power on and goes to the home screen. it's not a txt/email notification, it's a full battery notification. I now charge my phone to complete before going to bed which seems to help with the 2AM wakeup.
Unfortunately, need to keep phone close by since I work in incident management. I get those late night calls when things happen and you all should be happy that there are people like me around It could save your life or a love one's life.
I'll try tasker later this week to see if I can get it to work otherwise I'll try your recommendation. Thanks!
Alright this is a rough one so let me start elaborating my predicament.
The phone will charge fine that isn't a problem.
The problem is "Discharging"
from a rough estimate of 100% till about 80% nothing it will say it's "Still Charging" (well showing the lightning symbol, no big deal)
but as soon as it reaches a lower percent (79% Etc.) it will keep making the Screen turn on and off on and off all day until around 14% which makes the battery use more juice having the screen on.
the issue is it believes to be "Plugged" in and "unplugged" consistently to make the screen wake and sleep.
the wake timer is set to the minimum which is 15 seconds, every other action has been taken that I know of,
Settings-Apps-Notifications,
Settings-Developer-Stay Awake
Settings-Sounds-Notifications
and so on,
I just figured heck, i'll root my Nexus in hopes there are additional options to resolve my issue but no Rom I've found allows this unless maybe I missed one that has this feature to turn off the information if the phone is charging, or not.
Thank you for all your brilliant information in the past, this is a new account I've been with the XDA since 09
Last option would be to buy the Nexus 4 but I am to believe it's a 3G only device and I run through Verizon, the only other option would be to keep my unlimited data and buy their phone. any and all advice is appreciated thank you again,
i bet you have the "fingers" inside your usb port touching each other. one might be slightly bent, causing the issue. if they do touch, the device thinks its plugged in.
That makes sense I didn't take that into account. Would I be able to use needle nose pliers and fix it myself or is there a .Command I can program my phone or even an app that will make it so the only time my screen comes on is for the power button?
If I have to I can always just buy the Nexus 4 if that's a smart choice?
Thank you for your wisdom.

No one ever seems to respond much about hardware issues on the note 2 forum but I'm going to give it another go. Started out a few weeks ago with major battery issues resulting from what I think caused it, was an overheating issue. (fell asleep laying on it charging and screen lit for about 6 hours) The phone started by shutting off when the levels were anywhere from 20-50%. Since then I've tried 3 new OEM batteries and swapped to a different working charge port flex. I jumped from cymod to the skynote rom before swapping out hardware parts and it seemed to make a difference at first but didn't last long. Since going to skynote, I've tried running with greenify, juice defender and no power saving at all. Tried normal performance and tweaked performance. The other night I had my phone off and charging and it reached 100% on the power down indicator, when booting the phone up, the status bar battery indicator said 81%. The next night my phone actually stayed on, or atleast displayed what I felt was the proper percentage, down to 1%. When the indicator went from 2% to 1% I received a notification to unplug my charger, that my battery was full...the charger was not plugged in when receiving this and as soon as I finished reading the notification, the phone shut off again. I am at a loss because I have no idea what's causing this. I own an electronic repair shop and have no problems soldering new charge ports on if needed but I'm starting to think there is another controller on the daughter board which may control the communication between battery and phone. Any ideas?? Anyone....hello

The only one that ever offered anything that wasn't a typical response to someone who knows nothing about gadgets, was steele. As many times as the posts were viewed and only getting one response, which most of the time was an unrelated answer, is pretty sad. When noobs have questions about flashing a rom, there are always 30 people there ready to tell them or berate them, when there are countless forums out there to find their own answer. And no, only two posts had answered my hardware questions and the replies were not any kind of a valid response. I apologize for assuming anyone here had experience with internal components. How about instead of responding like a troll, you change my mind and actually teach me something if you're so qualified to give tech support.

Thanks for your input, but I'm looking for the contoller that would have been damaged. Do you know of a motherboard breakdown link, where I could find out which ics controls charging/battery/phone communication or shutoff. I've soldered new contollers in iphones before and I'm assuming there has to be a similar part which controls current shutoff in the galaxy line. Thanks again.

Thanks. I've done the calibration a couple times with new batteries and flashed quite a few roms on and off. I'm pretty sure something is cooked, but most of the time, if the ics can be identified it can be replaced with a new one. I'm looking for a motherboard breakdown of all soldered parts and a legend to go with it. ifixit is where I usually go, but can't seem to find the exact breakdown of what part controls current flow and shutoff.
Xda is mostly about tweaking the phone software and very seldom about the hardware, and rarely about the ic components. Sorry that your question is several paygrades above my skillset.
I have replaced the mainboard for about $80. But of course you already thought about that.
I think that sort of info would be proprietary info, that Samsung would not publish out to just anyone. Unless that specific piece was patented.
I can see them not giving a damn about older models of phones whose technology they would not reuse. But Galaxy stuff in production, I would imagine they would go after someone's scalp that had it.
For info like that I usually grab whatever numbers I see on the board, throw them in every search engine I can think and hope something pops up.

You probably hit the nail on the head with that. It's just so frustrating when I know it can be fixed if I could just figure out which part got fried. Usually soldering a new charge port fixes a lot of hardware glitches when it comes to connectivity or charging/decharging, but of course on this phone it's not happening. Thanks steele

Props to the boys at mobiletechvideos....
If you want microsurgery on a phone. ..they are the ones. ..g

I can send you the old mainboard to use for donor parts once you locate the correct component. PM me your address.
Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely check them out and Ranger I'll definitely take you up on that. I apologize for being a jerk with my post. My phone was driving me nuts, ( I have a hard time dealing with not being able to troubleshoot electronics), and I thought that might be a way to get someone to help me out when I was in dire need.
Very generous Ranger....as always...thank you...
Great people here omen...and you just found one of the best...
They don't call him Captain for nothing....g

Having gotten the forced AT&T update with the 60% battery limit, I looked to reverse it. I downloaded the August version of the firmware and put Odin to work.
Things were running along and seemed like my life was once again complete. Due to an unfortunate string of events. (back of computer chair spun, pressing it against a clamp I use for soldering, and hitting the power button... Yes, I know that I have better odds being struck by lightning than recreate this incident) My wonderful Note 7 is no longer speaking to me. I mean nothing. No button combinations, no PC recognition, no charging (although the light comes on on my wireless charger, but not phone), not even a blip goodbye.
I can't believe there's no way to make it respond. I even took off the glued back cover, and disconnected the battery. Zip zilch zero.
Yes I know it's under recall. I know it's playing Russian Roulette with a digital hand grenade. I know that the carriers will soon block it.
But it's the simple idea of "I can do it" is what drives me to try to fix it. I mean really... Isn't that the point of XDA in the 1st place? Take control of our devices? Play, tweak, and customize your gizmo the way you want it to be? Whether or not it's a dead device, I still wanna play with it.
So, if there's any suggestions, please don't hesitate to reply. Obviously I'm afraid of opening up my gadget. Wish there was some other way to force boot or even power up.
Thanks in advance.
Is there no hidden internal button or way I hook some jumper cables, solar panels, gamma radiation, or life support?

Same here. That's terrible!
In case any of you were interested in what was under the hood of your Note 7. Here you go. I blocked my S/N and IMEI numbers for obvious reasons.
Took me 2 minutes to figure out what a Wineglass Charge is!
Seriously, LOL
